Two changes that would make the greatest impact would be:
    1) Shifting the center of gravity in the car forward towards the engine. Right now the car moves like a miniature because its center of gravity isn’t realistically displaced.
    2) On a road like that a car should be kicking up some dust behind its wheels. There should be a lingering cloud of dust behind the vehicle. This would likely be the most impactful change of the two.
This is really impressive as it is. Good job!

I mean, you’re approaching this criticism as if seeing it with your eyes, not through a camera lense. This look can be achieved in filmed movies through filters and lenses, as well as adjusting light curves in post-production. It all depends what look you’re going for in order to tell the story, I suppose.
If he was going for an on-film look that conveys a sense of heat and dryness, then, yeah, he could’ve upped the exposure. If he was going for captured-on-digital to convey just a leisurely drive through the plains, then I think he achieved it.
Edit: upon rewatching it, I can see some of what you’re talking about. I think the issue might be that it appears to slightly hazy and humid, which isn’t a characteristic of the dessert. That’s what’s kind of throwing it off slightly

    • @Terandium
      @Terandium 4 місяці тому

Unreal engine is a game engine so it runs in realtime, cinema4d renders each frame, cinema4d has infinite more time per frame.
Because of that cinema4d will always have the opportunity to look better then unreal engine.
Most movies are 24frames per second, that is 41 milliseconds per frame. Calculations can’t take longer than that or it will stutter.
Cinema4d isn’t real time so it can take as long as it needs per frame.

    That's remarkable! Looks insanely real!
To push yourself more, I'd say to add ambient wind plus any air from the car, as well as learning some good cinematography shots for realistic camera movements.
    Excellent work! Keep it up!

I;d watch a movie in this style. It's not photographically real, but its own uncanny-valley vibe that's really pleasing.

    Very nice! :D
The only things I noticed that you could improve on is that the motion of the car (and maybe camera too idk) felt a bit weightless.
And maybe you could turn up the motion blur a little bit more so that it looks even more like an 70s or 80s movie shot in 24p. This looks more like something filmed at 50p

one of the key factors in figuring out that it's CG is, in my opinion, the impossible camera angles that could only be done through CG.
    my examples: 0:30 & 0:42
incredible work this is so insane!

cant tell why, but it looks like one of those 1990s stop motion animations
everything feels so small but zoomed in

You should try motion blur, set your shutter angle to 180. Will make it look realistic and filmic.
Also run a dust sim out the back of each wheel at bare minimum. That’ll help sell the effect.
Otherwise it looks great and I love the vibes!

it got me thinking about how desolate the desert were in those days (if you got stuck there, you would have been in serious shit) and not about the CGI.. good job :)

This is great, I love how realistic it looks and yet there's still a bit of an uncanny valley feeling. Beautiful shots, especially when the camera is on a fixed point, still. I wonder, with 3D, could you have the camera fly under the car while it drives? These sorts of surreal shots would look amazing on such realistic scenery.

this is absolutely sick as hell. the only thing missing is more dust and rocks being kicked up from behind the car, the road is all old and withered after all
