Im so shocked that the high end designer companies like Dior and Channel dont include jewlery in thier advent calanders. Like a simple classic CC channel earing, cuff link, or bracelet. They really put in all the dinky freebies that they usually give away at the mall to make room for the next season of inventory. What a scam
It's like someone went through all the promos & samples from 2021 that were scheduled to be discarded & then they decided to make an advent calendar to screw their customers. Especially Channel, those stickers & string bracelet were total freebie items with a $0 retail value. Those companies sell to people who really can't afford their stuff & don't know quality but will just pay for the name to look wealthy.
The channel calendar was full of sort of tat that you get a trade fair.
No way were you getting Chanel jewelry from an 800 calendar. Have you actually,priced Chanel pieces? If you take a look your expectations might be more in line with reality.

There needs to be an advent calendar committee because these expensive sampler calendars are ridiculous. There's need to be someone to oversee price point vs product size, and stickers and scrunchies in $200+ calendars. This really gives the vibe that, I don't know - Dior hired someone to conduct a wee bit of industrial espionage over at Chanel, because they were worried that Chanel was releasing a luxury calendar as well.
But then the spy came back, like; "Nah, nah... we cool. We can do whatever. As long as we don't put empty gift bags in there, or a plastic bracelet, people are gonna be JAZZED."
And then Dior's team had a laugh, left work early, and went to play golf for the rest of the year.

I looked up the full size dollar amount as well as their volume and did the math comparing it to the volume of the products in the calendar... And the total value is only $415.26. The Prestige skincare was worth the most.

Candles could be gotten there (like super nice ones) plus tons of other junk thats way more valuable...SHE needs to take us with her to TJMAXX and buy $550 worth of stuff, like high end stuff at TJMAXX & have it be comparable to the Dior or Chanel calendars but FULL SIZE ....The Chanel stickers for FIVE days could be like NICE paintings or smth like that...idk I'm getting all out of sorts with my thoughts at this point bc of those daMň foundations & then that dang candle, which was super pretty but kinda a punch to the gut after such a terrible array of products 🤪

The foundation samples left me speechless. And honestly, I think maybe except for the candle, you could get every of those items as a free gift/sample with a purchase.
This is absolutely hilarious! I managed Dior Beauty at a department store 4 years ago. I was blown away by the horrible quality of their products. I remember when Dior decided to revamp makeup brushes. We waited FOREVER to receive them, and once we did I couldn’t believe it. The most expensive brush that would be used to apply Airflash spray foundation, simply couldn’t be washed. That’s right, you couldn’t wash the brush because the dark blue paint would chip from its handle. A $60 brush and it’s gross forever and ever lol.
You could wash the brush. Don't get the handle wet. (Jan Griffiths).

That's why certain linens and fabrics include tags like "dry clean only", "tumble dry", etc. If your product requires special care, let the buyer know. How much of the profit on a $60 single brush would that really take away?

Yes...and they would prob actually spend less money doing it that way in all actuality because a decent percentage of the people who got the calendar would never end up going in and claiming the actual product simply out of laziness or not getting around to it or not thinking it was worth the hassle or whatever their reason may be...they would truly save money doing that and the people who really wanted to use the foundation would be happy..you would think it would be a win-win for everyone...but apparently, out of all the money these companies have, and all the workers and combined minds they have working together, they still can't come up with actual concepts like this that make sense🤦smh

That would be really cool. I saw a display at the World of Disney store for the Minnie Mouse 12 Days of Beauty calendar and when I saw just how tiny the items were and the cost per item, I was like nahhhh...I can get that at Ulta's 5 for 5 sales for half the cost and picking the scents. But the display was very artfully done and if I had a little girl (8-10) to buy for who loved Minnie Mouse, I'd have done it.

Hell, Black women are shat on by cosmetics to the extent that STORES LITERALLY LOCK UP THEIR DARK SHADES and they leave the light shades out. You have to ask an employee to unlock a shade for you if you’re Black in many stores. The beauty industry isn’t doing her any favors. The beauty industry is racist.

There’s an easy way around this as well I got an advent calendar that came with a voucher for a free concealer from the store I bought it from. They do something similar every year so you can chose your own shade of a full price item in store (no.7 advent calendar)

We've included our top selling shade of the year so you can see how awesome our formula is! Once you're in love, come get your own in YOUR perfect shade!"

I got a QVC advent calendar last year and it had THREE skin tone specific items. Like samples of a foundation, a concealer, and some tanning thing? It was so annoying because obviously they were not my shade and I can't imagine how many people it would have actually matched. I tried out all the skin care and mascara samples it had but was so sad many of the items were completely useless to me.
I like the addition of the masculine colognes.
We had a ladies day with a lady who used to be some high up chief of something or another for Este Lauder and she taught us to understand perfumes and how to wear it. She said it's 100% acceptable for women and men to wear both masculine and Femme scents and it makes me so happy cause I love my partners cologne and it's also the 3rd of the price (but 2ce the size) of my perfumes 🤣
I think they would make great gifts for the boyfriend/husband or father around the house!

FYI, a 1 fl oz bottle of that serum that has the "orbeez" in it retails for a whopping $285. I got that size bottle last month from Influenster to test out. It's actually a nice serum, and it does work (it's made my skin look a bit brighter), but there are so many more affordable serums out there that do the EXACT SAME THING.
This is why I prefer chocolate calendars I never get disappointed XD

I always find these comparisons to the chocolate advent calenders don't make a lot of sense. Honestly, not even the chocolate advent calenders are a good value if you consider the same standards typically applied to these beauty calenders. You're still probably going to get a better value and probably better quality and satisfaction if you just pick out the chocolates yourself, so how are they not just as disappointing?
If anything, your getting a much higher markup for chocolate advent calenders for the benefit of having it in that packaging. They are never presented as a value deal, aside from maybe going on sale after Christmas is over.

I believe that candle (if it had come with the lid) was going for almost $200 in that limited edition packaging. 🤯. Now I love my $68 Replica Jazz Club candles, but those I only burn on “special days” lol. I would never burn a $200 candle.
These extremely expensive brands don't deserve the "luxury" label. They feel so cheap, and the presence of foundation bottles is ridiculously narrow minded, even if they put two different shades it will not work for 90% of people.

@@erinxox8828 I wonder if that is done, especially in the higher end calendars like Chanel, to create a limited run item only available by purchasing the calendar. Since the item doesn't have a base price like the samples and minis to calculate a value it becomes a "collector's item and therefore they cl I'm it is worth whatever someone will pay for it. A good PR department can spin anything, even why a $3 key chain has enough value to be included in $300 to $500 advent calendar. This is my first year watching this series and I have to say that I am thankful to have so many little ones to buy for that only one of these calendars actually has tempted me.

The tiny J'adore bottle looks just like the full size omg. I have the full size bc I got a sample from Sephora and I had to do it, I loved it so much. The scent lasts all day!
I love Dior perfumes. My favorite is Diorissimo which, I think, is oop but it's also around $800usd per oz for the "extraict" (the actual factual oils and oils alone)

I love when creams put Un-dissolving beads in things to fill up space and you have to remove the beads as they go on your face. The tiny jars are only good to refill up and travel with.
The Dior mascara that you opened up and I use the lash primer that goes with that mascara every time I do my make up it is a go to for me

I want someone to go through these expensive advent calendars and look up each product and calculate how much $ per ounce it costs, then calculate the value of each door/drawer, and then calculate the actual value of the whole calendar. I've watched enough of these unboxings to suspect that they're rarely worth what you pay for the calendar, much less what they claim the value to be.
Bless her, because I would NEVER buy an advent calendar that doesn't have Reeses peanut butter cups in it ever again.
I did it for the Chanel one. (You have to kind of guess at some of the mini sizes, but I was pretty generous with that.) They were basically valuing all of the non-products at about $250 for stickers, keychains and crap jewelry. Ridiculous. 😡
I would buy year-round advent calendars if they had peanut butter cups. I'm just saying.

Honestly if they had charged $250 for 24 samples with 1 full-size perfume I would have bought it in a heartbeat!
I love the Miss Dior minis, I have all of the current ones, including Rose n' Roses. I'm not a rose fan either but I do collect these and I agree that it doesn't smell bad for a rose scent
I do love Jadoir, but it smells like sunny skies, which was an avon perfume that I loved that they stopped
I would love to see a video where you try to buy the full size item of each thing in the advent calendar and see how much it totals compared to the calendar. Or even ounce price compared to retail. Cause for 550 bucks I feel like you could probably get a decent haul from Dior and not a bunch of samples.

I think with the amount of perfume they have in their repertoire they should’ve just done perfume and done 12 doors. Instead of alienating an entire group by doing foundation…especially because people have different skin types so they could have reactions to many different products for their skin.

So far this year I have concluded that the best values come from the cheaper calendars. If you are just going to get samples anyway, buy the cheap calendar

That's so funny, I had no idea that's what it meant. When she says "bougie" I think it's short for "bourgeoisie". It's funny how we have shortened forms of French words in English.
@@pfifltrigg "bougie" is US slang for bourgeoisie - and I think that's how she meant it. A "bougie" candle, means an expensive one. - but funilly enough its written exactly the same as the French word for "candle" (although the pronounciation differs)

You my dear are the epitome of a patient soul. I would have ripped open each and every one of these calenders, as I brought them into the house. I wouldn't have been able to sleep at night, knowing that there was possibly something wonderful inside each drawer, door or perforated partition.
I will say you make me want to try some advent calendars for next year!! I want to do the bath and body works one! I hope they add holiday scents next time though!!

I bought a dupe for the Dior Sauvage and it smells pretty identical, so great to me. And yes it is a men’s cologne, but it just smells so great

Ambre Nuit is a unisex scent- I've been wearing it for a while. If you like amber or spicy scents, I think you'd like it. Great for cold weather!
