The dominion moved too quickly and too aggressively, everything was rolled back on them shortly after gaining it. The Kalandra offensive is very much like the battle of the bulge, the last great dominion counterattack which expended their remaining strength. They will be briefly rejuvenated later on, but even that is not enough at this point. In my opinion, the Dominion had entered a terminal decline in the quadrant, like the Byzantine empire after then end of the Komnenos dynasty, they would never again achieve the great power they once held. Like the Byzantines as well, the dominion has gone way past the point of negotiating for its continued existence in the quadrant and its enemies will settle for nothing less than the end of the hated enemy.
Interesting comparison. It's worth acknowledging that the dominion really needed a diplomatic breakthrough to survive in that lull after operation return. Once the federation resolved to continue they knew that they were living on borrowed time.
I most say the Dominion did very good when the only ones helping them was Cards 50 years behind everybody else in tech. It's worth bearing in mind that the klingons had fought the federation more recently than the romulans. The romulans had actually kept their hands pretty clean the past few years.
@@venomgeekmedia9886 True, but the Klingons have learned to respect the Federation over the years. The Romulans, on the other hand, have ALWAYS been the "honorless, untrustworthy cowards" to the Klingons for the last several generations.
In your opinion, were any Dominion battleships destroyed during the war? We never see it on screen, and all those battleships shown guarding cardassia prime were saved when the founder surrendered...
I think some of the large dominion battleships seen at cardassia were battle monitor type ships that were not fully built but used as stationary weapons platforms.
I've been going back and rewatching these. I meant to ask when this came out but never did. The group Paris has, is it the same he used back at Torros? I know it makes little difference and a lot has happened between then to now. I just like the idea that because of how well the fleet worked together, and Martok being a bro it'd stay together for the rest of the war. Plus anything that they're willing to risk a Sovereign for you're gonna want some Klingons watching your back. And there's bound to be a song or two sung about the battles.
I’m curious: why did you place Benzar (and Bolarus/Bolia) in the “south” of the federation whereas most maps I’ve seen place them in the “north”/“northeast”
Bravo Bravo Bravo best ep yet The Dominion first blow as force to scorch Earth this allows the Alliance the use without retaliation later that got one of there Shipyards bonus as saving when count and knock out half there ship building
Heh. I think they just meant to occupy the frequencies, but people forget computers in Trek world could probably counteract that if they were using radio and someone noticed. I thought it was some irony there though, cause some years ago I had a roleplaying character that had been at the liberation of Benzar. (It went down rather differently in whatever sources and embellishments I was using, and if I recall, there Benzar was occupied rather longer, and it was a bit more like retaking the Philippines after most of the Japanese Navy was out, also the Benzites had more to do with it, cause they seem like peeps that plan everything before they drop the hammer, which is a fairly good way to be if occupied. ) ...and that character's attack plane squadron had a history of razzing the Breen in particular with 'Ballroom Blitz' by Sweet as a sort of calling card. So, Venom's story seemed to interestingly hit on familiar beats to what I'd largely imagined.
My eyes got a bit wet at the end, must have been some space debris... I always wondered how the interaction/coordination between the Allies went in practice. This felt like one of the very best DS9 multiepisodes because of the combination of war tactics/strategies and the personal component of Picard/Tomalak/Sayaran/Cardassian sentiments and realizations. With such great storytelling and true understanding of the Romulan soul, you should write a book (or a dozen).
Interesting take, though a lot of it, especially the ground actions, seemed to omit the fact Benzar clearly has a rather different atmosphere. (And most of the people apparently live in 'Geostructures,' whatever those are. ) (Also people forget a thing about antimatter, namely that it's not like a nuclear chain reaction or a bigger bomb if you have a lot in the same place. Especially in space, without deliberate containment, antimatter might make a very catastrophic boom as far as your starship is concerned, but every single little matter antimatter particle explosion pushes all the reactants *further apart.* So you probably don't get planet-cracking as depicted even in atmosphere, more likely you get a firestorm and probably most of the pressure sending more reactants *up,* than down or sideways. Cause there's fewer reactants and thus less resistance the higher you go. Everything going to the sides pushes energy in all directions, including in and up, blow away the matter to react with, which way does the energy, thus most of the antimatter go. )
So the Interceptor-class, a simplified variant of the Intrepid, is half the size? Really? 😕 They took a ship that’s 344 meters and shrank it down to 165 meters? Isn’t that between a Defiant-class and a Saber-class? 😕
@@venomgeekmedia9886 In orbit, well out the way of civilian centers. Anti matter is super dangerous given it's used as a primary fuel source in this universe so they must be manufacturing it in massive quantities. To give it some context, 1Kg of that stuff is about the equivalent of the Tzar bomb.
If I could I would like to make a small request for future dominion war episodes is that you add in other species cause I find it hard to believe that only the federation, Klingon and later Romulan's fought the Dominion, there had to be at lest one smaller race that made small contributions to ether side.
I hope the federation learned a valuable lesson about refining antimatter on planetary surfaces. That's the sort of thing that should only be done in space where there's less regular matter for the antimatter to contact even if it does breach containment and destroy the station.
That vorta is one complete madman. But the Federation ain't going to take that sitting down with Benzar being taken by the Dominion. So the Federation with the help of the Klingons and Romulans will take it back.
Was the reason they could not use orbital bombardment at all? Was the fact they had to clear the actual buildings? Why are doing any opening ground fighting? For we see that during Kirk's time, they could fire on a street and stun a large army in one volley. And weapon technology seemed to be far more advance in the targeting aspect by the 24th Century. To the point Voyager, a ship that was not a pure warship could disable a small vehicle under the sea in orbit without damaging important mining equipment. So I don't see how armies can do much fighting in the open ground, even if close to army groups that landed. And if it was, it is mostly fighters and shuttlecraft fighting occupied forces fighters, and ground emplacements not destroyed by orbital bombardment. For I don't think they will last one with a disrupt attacking infantry with beam weapons performing sweeping attacks. Maybe tanks, but I made my thoughts on how they would use for an occupation force or those trying to hold ground over an invasion force. In my opinion, I would see selective orbital bombardment being used to destroy any weapon placement and army groups out in the opening, along with any bases not vital to holding the planet. Followed by an invasion to take bases they want to take, and buildings in civilian cities to secure them. Followed with mop-up operations to hunt down any enemy troops hiding in caves, underground tunnels, and holds outs in isolated areas like forests or arctic conditions, hiding there while using tactics seen used by the Maquis to disrupt sensors.
@@venomgeekmedia9886 Maybe, but I am wondering why not use phaser sweep for any Jem'haddar squads in the open. Unless they have the civilians with them, it does not seem to be an issue for phasers to kill everything within a bock for 10-meter blocks. Also, I was speaking for the Dominion as well, since they care more for victory than morality, I don't see why they wouldn't just use orbital bombardment anywhere they could detect a Starfleet presence before sending the troops to the mockup. I believe that is why they did with the Maquis.
The absolute minimum you could have done to make it good, was to hire Patrick Stewart and revive Katsulas for these few sentences at the beginning. I mean you are a famous rich youtuber and we want entertainment! ;) Good work
One can't help but admit the Infernal Gallop over a starship battle is pretty funny. But I have to ask, how long does a Vorta live for? does it die from old age and is then cloned? If so then does that count as a death for them or is it considered out of bounds?
Were there no phaser anti-aircraft guns on the Benzar planetary surface? Without proper anti-aircraft defences, a military airborne landing operation cannot be combated. How embarrassing to have Starfleet standing on the Benzar surface with their pants down. I hope Starfleet learns from this and let develop heavy phaser anti-aircraft canons.
And of course they would jam communication with Earth music that just so happened to be in their database prior to the engagement. Such a jamming technique can be filtered-out by playing an inverted version of the music (aka: "anti noise"). Of course, with Starfleet being run by idiots, it's no surprise they don't have this technology. What's an even bigger surprise is that the radio signals travelled at the same speed as subspace signals, rather than the much slower, speed of light. Should I be surprised that the Dominion had the radio technology available to them?
What would you say the total casualties of the Dominion War were? If 4 million wasn't seen as anything major.... Must have been very high indeed lol. Picard was briefly on the bridge of Taris's Romulan Warbird in the episode Contagion. Though, since he was beamed away within seconds, this would technically be the first time he was welcomed aboard a Romulan Warbird lol.
This was another brilliantly awesome, compellingly magnificent and marvellously comprehensive new addition to the dominion war battle series. The dominion seem to be losing their ability to see the big picture and plan ahead and are sorely lacking in an overall strategic co-ordinator or diplomatic advisor going forward. As while bold new offensives may seem good on paper, Dominion should be hoarding their resources in south and using them to either pinch off the pocket or hold Betazed, rather than over extending themselves and giving allies chance to take advantage of to strike back. Allowing Allied forces to build up momentum to eventually reverse alot of the dominions gains in the galactic south. Dominion if they had any sense should be trying to get back to the negotiating table and use its territorial gains to achievbe a peace in which all captured cardassian territory is return and maybe gain some territorial concessions in the dmz for returning Betazed and other captured planets in the south.

@@venomgeekmedia9886 True, but the Klingons have learned to respect the Federation over the years. The Romulans, on the other hand, have ALWAYS been the "honorless, untrustworthy cowards" to the Klingons for the last several generations.
Isolithic charge... Isn't that a subspace weapon? Banned under the -Geneva protocol- Khitomer accords?
Technically. But who's gonna know...
@@venomgeekmedia9886 The dominion going to commit tactical war crime: (Insert slander meme walking here.)
The Dominion never signed the Khitomer Accords and besides, once a war, a REAL total war kicks off, all weapons treaties go straight out the window
Picard and Tomelok, quite a pair of commanders.
This was well worth the wait.
Glad you think so.
In your opinion, were any Dominion battleships destroyed during the war? We never see it on screen, and all those battleships shown guarding cardassia prime were saved when the founder surrendered...
so there are probably about 7 battleships active at this point. so far none have been lost. but only 3 need to make it to cardassia.
A better Picard, if only in voice, than Star Trek Picard.
Tomalok was the greatest villain and the antithesis of Picard. What few realize is this was the actor that became Jkar on Babylon 5.
Bravo Bravo Bravo best ep yet
The Dominion first blow as force to scorch Earth this allows the Alliance the use without retaliation later that got one of there Shipyards bonus as saving when count and knock out half there ship building
Uh, I'm not sure Will Wheaton was a Vorta.
Ooofff that's not will Wheaton's face. That's one of my navarchs.

11:50... that is the most absolutely fucked up bit of PSYOPS imaginable.
Well played.
Why did you change the Marker of the First fleet from a red Marker to a Yellow one?
My eyes got a bit wet at the end, must have been some space debris... I always wondered how the interaction/coordination between the Allies went in practice. This felt like one of the very best DS9 multiepisodes because of the combination of war tactics/strategies and the personal component of Picard/Tomalak/Sayaran/Cardassian sentiments and realizations. With such great storytelling and true understanding of the Romulan soul, you should write a book (or a dozen).
Your too kind. I'm glad you enjoyed.
Interesting take, though a lot of it, especially the ground actions, seemed to omit the fact Benzar clearly has a rather different atmosphere. (And most of the people apparently live in 'Geostructures,' whatever those are. )
(Also people forget a thing about antimatter, namely that it's not like a nuclear chain reaction or a bigger bomb if you have a lot in the same place. Everything going to the sides pushes energy in all directions, including in and up, blow away the matter to react with, which way does the energy, thus most of the antimatter go. )
The map of benzar is based on a beta Canon map. And yes other species would presumably need life support equipment.
Benzar & Romatis-3 became a Mariupol-lite incl. AZOW-Stahl
Gamesmanship the best word to dissrcibe the Romulins and Tomalock 😊
Great show verry well done
Awesome video of the Liberation of Benzar, NOW on to Betazed.....
I didn't realize there was an "east" in space. ☺️. Just teasing. Great video.
That was a really amazing video I enjoyed it very much that's a very good Picard voice
So the Interceptor-class, a simplified variant of the Intrepid, is half the size? Really? 😕
They took a ship that’s 344 meters and shrank it down to 165 meters? Isn’t that between a Defiant-class and a Saber-class? 😕
yeah the main thing it has in common with intrepid is variable nacelle geometrey but otherwise yeah its half defiant half saber
@@venomgeekmedia9886
What an odd decision 😕
I can understand having a more tactically minded variant, but why the drastic decrease in size?
A giant planetary anti matter factory......that has to be the most bone headed idea mankind has ever come up with.
I mean it's gotta go somewhere.
What species did you have in mind?
Well it's up to you
@@venomgeekmedia9886 I'm thinking of the kriosian's. Some what like what happened to the reman's.
Where do you get these stories from? Star Trek novels?
Another excellent video good sir
I hope the federation learned a valuable lesson about refining antimatter on planetary surfaces. That's the sort of thing that should only be done in space where there's less regular matter for the antimatter to contact even if it does breach containment and destroy the station.
I miss good star trek so much
Don't you really mean, REAL Trek?
That vorta is one complete madman. But the Federation ain't going to take that sitting down with Benzar being taken by the Dominion. So the Federation with the help of the Klingons and Romulans will take it back.
Great video really appreciate all your hard work keep it up
That Vorta was really showing his lack of respect for the Klingons and their technology, by not establishing the anti-cloaking perimeter.
This is great!!! I'm really enjoying this.
Great work as always Salute!
For one thing jem'hadar are immune to stun settings. And most body armour systems also protect against low yield shots like that.
I think maybe heavy ECM?
What I liked about the USS Voyager was that she could punch above her wait when she was lost in the Delta quadrant
The absolute minimum you could have done to make it good, was to hire Patrick Stewart and revive Katsulas for these few sentences at the beginning. I mean you are a famous rich youtuber and we want entertainment! ;)
Good work
A Vorta with a beard? Are you kidding? This is a violation of cannon.
This video was EXCELLENT
One can't help but admit the Infernal Gallop over a starship battle is pretty funny.
But I have to ask, how long does a Vorta live for? does it die from old age and is then cloned? If so then does that count as a death for them or is it considered out of bounds?
Dying be that from old age or being killed counts. In terms of lifespan that's an interesting question maybe shorter than a human. Say 70-80
@@venomgeekmedia9886 interesting

Picard " certainty Times change, but the past remains unchanged "
Q " oh Mon Capitaine, don't be so sure "
Were there no phaser anti-aircraft guns on the Benzar planetary surface? Without proper anti-aircraft defences, a military airborne landing operation cannot be combated. How embarrassing to have Starfleet standing on the Benzar surface with their pants down. I hope Starfleet learns from this and let develop heavy phaser anti-aircraft canons.
The Dominion scorched earth tactic is almost as callous as the Imperium of Man (40K)
As soon as I heard Anti matter facility I knew.

Im just wondering why they dont just transport the enemy into space once the transport blocker are down.
They would probably have personal inhibitors. Or jamming devices so you can't be seen from orbit.
@@venomgeekmedia9886 oh I never thought of that.
I would have really loved to have seen Picard and Tamolak meet as Allies on screen

Wonderful work sir. If only the dominion had employed a chorus of can can dancers. ( Paris style) anyone wondering think a Scotsman and his kilt
I can only imagine it. Lol
What would you say the total casualties of the Dominion War were? If 4 million wasn't seen as anything major.... Must have been very high indeed lol.
Picard was briefly on the bridge of Taris's Romulan Warbird in the episode Contagion. Though, since he was beamed away within seconds, this would technically be the first time he was welcomed aboard a Romulan Warbird lol.
what a madman that vorta is
Absolute madlad
Jem Hadar always go out like champs!
Another great one!
If the Prophets had not aided Sisko, the Dominion War would have been very different.
They should still be able to communicate internally through the ship through fiber optics bridge to engineering
