This video really helps me to better understand the motivations of the colonists in the DMZ to form the Maquis, as well as why the Bajorans were so distrustful of the Federation, in the end the occupation of Bajor must have been made that much harder to endure for Bajorans because of the Cardassian-Federation war
The best ship in the Cardassian Fleet is slightly less powerful than the Excelsior class. The Miranda, while presented as the Red Shirt of the fleet is actually more than a capable starship for combat and much of the Cardassian Fleet is comprised of many smaller classes that the Miranda can handle. The Ambassador class was a monster to the Cardassians. Many other ships that came about in this era are also far more powerful than anything in the orders of battle for the Cardassians. This was a border war because of internal conflict in the Federation that was feeling the 22nd and 23rd century version WOKE at the time.
this would have been great info to have, during my days as a Bridge Commander modder... I always thought the Cardassians were fun to play as, their ship designs made for some surprising underdogs when used right.
The federation needs new leadership especially in their military ranks that man never should have been allowed to serve as long as he did and this is the price they paid for it
Your videos reveal a depth of Trek lore that should be put to TV and film. Good stories consistent with cannon rather than left field garbage like Discovery or the JJ craptastic reboot timeline. I'd love to see Trek being done by people who understand Trek.

One of the captured airmen during his "confession" used blinking of his eyes using Morse code to send the message "Bullshit" while he read his script.
Another amazing video, these wars are topics not well covered by the TV show Wich most of us get our lore from. To me it is the most interesting part of the story.. keep up the great work.

i know it's an old video, but i thought you might be interested to know that irl, there is no such thing as "resistance to torture" and state agencies did away with such notions about a hundred years ago. what people entrusted with intelligence are taught to do is, if captured, immediately give all information they know in hopes of release or prevention of torture. this is much easier to plan for, as an organization, as you simply compartmentalize information, each individual only knowing what they need to, and when they're captured, you assume your enemy has that intelligence now what can be taught are coping mechanisms for torture, and i imagine any Star Fleet training would be more along those lines, especially when dealing with Cardassians we have, tho, seen mental techniques for resisting psychic interrogation, and i think that's a really cool idea. how DO you hide information from someone who is experiencing your thoughts in realtime just as you are?? i imagine it's like giving yourself dissociative identity disorder on purpose or some kind of wacky shenanigans like that
Lol very funny... the new bestest evar heavy cruisers would be easily targeted at long range due to cooperative engagement and picked apart with ranged shots whilst their spiral wave thingies would have no useful effect at that range.... fed ships would just dump torpedo banks on them and problem solved.... end of sorted ....
What hogwash... the stargazer would have concentrated all weapons at point blank vs the enemy ship that had taken 2 torpedo shots and whose Shields were no doubt buckled.. this would be an instant kill... the excelsior and destroyer would pincer in cooperatively attacking the largest enemy ship at close range punching through its Shields and killing it instantly... this would require the 3 other ships to be momentarily unemgaged and each would be assumed to cause moderate damage to each of the 3 vessels or destroy one at most.. only... thus leaving 3 fairly intact fed ships or 2 almost totally intact vs 3 smallest cardasian vessels.. which would result in a victory or at least a mutual kill.. though victory is 80 percent likely... any other result would mean that federation have not taught naval tactics or even basic mathematics to its command staff....

It's really a shame that there is a Lost era about which little is known. For example, the Romulan attack on the Federation in 2311. The Tomed Incident. The Treaty of Algeron. The Enterprise C with his crew and Captain Garrett. That would be enough material for many more series.

No matter what new ships enter Cardassian navy, they were no match for Starfleet, sure they could compete with obsolete ships like Miranda, even Centaur and Excelsiors but Starfleet constantly adding new ships to the fleet, Ambassador, Cheyennes, New Orleans, then Nebulas, they couldnt match Starfleet, same is with Klingons, Vor'cha class is maded to match Nebula, but Vorcha is outmatched by upgraded Nebulas, Galaxies and Akiras.
The Jeremiah Denton reference. Pretty clever. In his context, I think it was more meant to convey that the North Vietnamese were playing up the propaganda angle of how supposedly well they treated captured US servicemen but him blinking out that one word while being filmed and used as a prop by the enemy is one of the most tragic yet admirable acts of a POW.
And the Dominion and far worse... the BORG would eliminate this 'rivalry' and join the organic vs the cybernetic in a challenge for life itself. How to stop this fight between these two rival powers?..... "WE ARE BORG..."
The "failure" of the United Federation of Planets was the assumption on earth that peace in an endless galaxy (and universe) was preferable to war and any powerplay politics would be mollified. Peace was presumed as the default when jealousy of its growth and membership was a burning issue among competitors who saw war as the fastest way of expanding and gaining others assets. Each time a war finished, Starfleet presumed it was the end (or at least agree to disagree) when others just saw it as a rearming time. While starfleet would often win in the end, the cost of this failure was massive and that loss of progress was seen only in hindsight. Trade wealth was seen as too slow to achieve political ambitions. Starfleet and the federation seemed oblivious to this flaw in the federation plan. It is likely that Earth never recovered from its nuclear war damage to its self image of being attracted to war and yet even the Vulcans had an armed force when war was also a historic flaw.
I believe that the Ambassador-class ships in Starfleet are superior to the Cardassian Galor-class. So I'm convinced Starfleet should have sent many more ships to protect the Federation's frontier worlds. Perhaps the Federation would have won this war and there would not have been a stalemate with such an unfavorable peace treaty that led to the founding of the Maquis.
Nice video and good story line. I know the Feds was wanting to keep the border war tone down but I think it caused more harm and lives on both sides then a all out one big battle war. If the Feds would have brut in their two latest class muscle ships in number could have ended this conflict in one curb stomp. The US makes that mistake all the time when they could have ended the problem in one major battle.

There's no way that the Klingon empire wouldn't of entered the war on the side of the federation and won this war. The t.v. show needed it to be a stalemate
true but two bits of context: Klingon-federation relations were not particularly strong the empire still had many pro-romulan elements; and the klingon fleet was far from the force we see later in DS9 at this point its much more of a territorial force.
I'd add that based on things we saw in TNG, the Klingons were probably heavily divided and focused on internal squabbles at this point. And this was a comparatively small war.
A great series of videos. By the time of "The Wounded", it seems that Starfleet has regained its technological edge. I'm assuming that the Galor class is at least a step above the heavy cruisers we see in this video but the Enterprise and Phoenix were able to defeat them quite handily. I'm assuming that the warship blown up by the Phoenix was a Galor, going by designation and crew complement?
Well, You would not expect, that galor is suddenly 2 times more powerful than Eco. Their are at max 30% more powerful. This is not enough to be a match to the Ambasador. Yeah, their could be consider thread to Ambasadors, but nowhere near equal in firepower. It is not even close to Galaxy or Nebula. There is one episode, where Enterprise is met by 3 Galors. Cardassians still weren't sure of victory.
@@TheRelativy definitely as it currently stands the Ekoor has the firepower of the excelsior but lacks agility. the Galor only see's an incremental increase of firepower but substantially more maneuverability which is why it looks more like the smaller kulinor.

@@venomgeekmedia9886 If the 2347 date can be supported, anyway, as 'Tribunal' goes against it somewhat, and O'Brien's age is fairly inconsistent (usually treated as 40 in DS9 season 1, yet occasionally hinted to be younger; and only said to be in Starfleet since 2350 one time - so I often go with a more recent date for the war) That said, Picard DID say he took the Stargazer to deliver some kind of truce message, which hints at an earlier date, at least for some writer intents. The books are also inconsistent on if Setlik was 2362 or 2347 - and with Pocket books closing their TNG line down, maybe, or moving it into Picard territory, they may never return to that era...

@@chrissonofpear1384 Except references to the war showed up in TNG and DS9 and Voyager, making the war very much not fannon. It lacks official hard details sort of like the Klingon-Fed war but it did happen and the war is official.
@@LostInTheFarmersMarket I know, but we never get a consensus on how long it lasted, and in what era, beyond either 2350s or early 60s, so things can be contradictory. I went over all the scripts even, on St Minutiae, for details. Even the novels don't always coincide on the dates, too.

No matter what new ships enter Cardassian navy, they were no match for Starfleet, sure they could compete with obsolete ships like Miranda, even Centaur and Excelsiors but Starfleet constantly adding new ships to the fleet, Ambassador, Cheyennes, New Orleans, then Nebulas, they couldnt match Starfleet, same is with Klingons, Vor'cha class is maded to match Nebula, but Vorcha is outmatched by upgraded Nebulas, Galaxies and Akiras.

In his context, I think it was more meant to convey that the North Vietnamese were playing up the propaganda angle of how supposedly well they treated captured US servicemen but him blinking out that one word while being filmed and used as a prop by the enemy is one of the most tragic yet admirable acts of a POW.

I've watched these videos before and I just noticed that blurred image too when rewatched this video today.
The "failure" of the United Federation of Planets was the assumption on earth that peace in an endless galaxy (and universe) was preferable to war and any powerplay politics would be mollified. Peace was presumed as the default when jealousy of its growth and membership was a burning issue among competitors who saw war as the fastest way of expanding and gaining others assets. Each time a war finished, Starfleet presumed it was the end (or at least agree to disagree) when others just saw it as a rearming time. While starfleet would often win in the end, the cost of this failure was massive and that loss of progress was seen only in hindsight. Trade wealth was seen as too slow to achieve political ambitions. Starfleet and the federation seemed oblivious to this flaw in the federation plan. It is likely that Earth never recovered from its nuclear war damage to its self image of being attracted to war and yet even the Vulcans had an armed force when war was also a historic flaw.
I was going to ask why the lady is featured but I remembered that in Cardassia.. Women dominate the sciences....

I believe that the Ambassador-class ships in Starfleet are superior to the Cardassian Galor-class. So I'm convinced Starfleet should have sent many more ships to protect the Federation's frontier worlds. Perhaps the Federation would have won this war and there would not have been a stalemate with such an unfavorable peace treaty that led to the founding of the Maquis.
Nice video and good story line. I know the Feds was wanting to keep the border war tone down but I think it caused more harm and lives on both sides then a all out one big battle war. If the Feds would have brut in their two latest class muscle ships in number could have ended this conflict in one curb stomp. The US makes that mistake all the time when they could have ended the problem in one major battle.
Some federation ships have the cracker crust pizza saucer section but the constellation class Stargazer is a deep dish model

i believe its often called the Ambassador Prototype. but its a very nice ship and choosing between that and the final on screen version is impossible.

There's no way that the Klingon empire wouldn't of entered the war on the side of the federation and won this war. The t.v. show needed it to be a stalemate
true but two bits of context: Klingon-federation relations were not particularly strong the empire still had many pro-romulan elements; and the klingon fleet was far from the force we see later in DS9 at this point its much more of a territorial force.

I'd add that based on things we saw in TNG, the Klingons were probably heavily divided and focused on internal squabbles at this point. And this was a comparatively small war.

By the time of "The Wounded", it seems that Starfleet has regained its technological edge. I'm assuming that the Galor class is at least a step above the heavy cruisers we see in this video but the Enterprise and Phoenix were able to defeat them quite handily.
I'm assuming that the warship blown up by the Phoenix was a Galor, going by designation and crew complement?
yeah so the galor ends up being superior to the excelsior maybe equal to a new Orleans but still outclassed by starfleets biggest.
Well, You would not expect, that galor is suddenly 2 times more powerful than Eco. Their are at max 30% more powerful. This is not enough to be a match to the Ambasador. Yeah, their could be consider thread to Ambasadors, but nowhere near equal in firepower. It is not even close to Galaxy or Nebula.
There is one episode, where Enterprise is met by 3 Galors. Cardassians still weren't sure of victory.
@@TheRelativy definitely as it currently stands the Ekoor has the firepower of the excelsior but lacks agility. the Galor only see's an incremental increase of firepower but substantially more maneuverability which is why it looks more like the smaller kulinor.
I like to think the Galor is above the Excelsior but way below the Ambassador class and anything bigger or stronger

@@venomgeekmedia9886 If the 2347 date can be supported, anyway, as 'Tribunal' goes against it somewhat, and O'Brien's age is fairly inconsistent (usually treated as 40 in DS9 season 1, yet occasionally hinted to be younger; and only said to be in Starfleet since 2350 one time - so I often go with a more recent date for the war) That said, Picard DID say he took the Stargazer to deliver some kind of truce message, which hints at an earlier date, at least for some writer intents. The books are also inconsistent on if Setlik was 2362 or 2347 - and with Pocket books closing their TNG line down, maybe, or moving it into Picard territory, they may never return to that era...
