Battlespace 'The Dominion War' The Siege Of Vulcan

- after 3 months of constant retreat Starfleet has been driven back to the very core of the federation. The founding world of Vulcan now in jeopardy. For over 200 years the Vulcans have remained steadfast pacifists. yet now as the shadow of the dominion looms over their world they may have no other choice than to take up arms... a choice that will forever change the face of Vulcan Civilization.

Lol
That movement is actually called the spearmint rhino.
Dude, your Star Trek videos are the best on UA-cam in regards to strategic and tactical realism. Why the hell do you only have 11k subscribers. We gotta get your videos more circulation, i think there are hundreds of thousands of fans who would go for this stuff.
thanks. definitely share it with your friends and in forums ect.
At the beginning of the Dominion war star fleet finally achieved something that had been working on for 80 years it replicates its first ship complete replication of an entire starship the ship is small it's only $130 m long it's based on an old design the warp Delta it can only get to work six but it can sustain warp sex it's not an emergency speed and it has a old style warp engine it's based on the work 5 engine but it's smaller it's only 12 ft long it's impulse engine though is state of the art it can go from 0 to full impulse and half the time previous and it's very maneuverable impulse and it is also capable of flying an atmosphere and landing it only has four decks and it's based on the old 22nd century Delta design on the outside on the inside it's a modern ship and it's technology is fully modern it has three front-facing pulse phaser cannons that unlock the device are not fixed these are in modern turrets they can fire beam or pulse and a single front quantum torpedo launcher that can fire for torpedoes in a valley and they rear photon launcher that can launch four photons the tubes can fire photons or quantum it has a blade of armor it can hold two top two shuttles that it can launch from a single drop shuttle Bay in the middle of the stomach or the bottom half it has five of these new phaser turrets it has one on the bottom underneath the nose it has three in the nose facing dead Ford and has one in the rear now the one at the bottom and the three on top they can that's four that they can fire at a Target and if they need to fire more long range they can switch to meme it don't look like to defiance razor blast it looks more like wrath of Khan pulse phases but it's equal in power to defiance it just can't blast as many of them these can blast three shots in a volley at full full power and a pulse but is more accurate than the defiance accounts and has a greater range the ships are usually captained by lieutenants commanders usually lieutenants sometimes they turn them over to the planetary defense Force

To think the Dominion got the Vulcan to rethink their way of life. Their way of thinking. To figure out that Logic is not always the answer to everything. That following a logical path is not always the right course of action. That even the Romulans may have the right idea. To have emotions and logic together. To which that maybe it was time to follow...Logic...and bring the two halves back together.
And so it begins... "every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end." --- Semisonic
and then they screw over the Romulans in Star Trek (2009).
This is so nerdy, I support your work nerd. May the great x checker take your bribe.
I imagine the first experience of fighting vulcans hand-to-hand was quite traumatic for jem'hadar. Dominion warrior caste probably got accustomed by this point to humans being pushovers and klingons being only somewhat of a challenge, but then this panzy-ass lookin' elf walks up to you and snaps you in half with his bare hands. Like, wtf, did someone put lsd in my ketracel?
Fully enraged Vulcans are straight up horror material. Why they were so afraid of The Expanse in ST:Enterprise.
Those green-blooded Hobgoblins did good.
_"Not one __-step-__ system back!" ~ __-Soviet-__ Starfleet Order No. 227_
This siege gives me both Leningrad/St. Petersburg & Stalingrad/Volgograd vibes in regards to the encirclement of Andor & the battle at the Vulcan border. It gives the off the UFP's desperation as well as jubilation after their victories here & Operation: Return.
Also, an excellent showing of the Grey Ghost that is the USS Enterprise-E proving why it's Starfleet's flagship.
Don't forget Verdun. THEY SHALL NOT PASS!
Those of us Wolf 359 survivors including me with many cybernetic replacement parts were considered bloodthirsty relics after our defeat. When Starfleet needed us however we were there, angry as hell and looking for redemption. Never forget your warhawks when your in trouble. We’re the ones who will not bend, who will not bow, or will not break.
Well, they chased them around the Moons of Nibia, now where is the Antares Maelstrom and Perdition's Flames?
Be kinda funny of one of those moons had a Giant phaser cannon on it....
THAT'S NO MOON.
apparently, the DID give them up before the other 2.
for anybody wondering where Picard was during the war, HELLS YEAH now we know! always love seeing a Sovereign class in action!
Have to say that it is great to see the federation fleets and their admirals making effective use of the terrain, spacial phenomena, fortified positions and military assets at their disposal to slow down, frustrate and ultimate defeat and turn the enemies numerical advantage and tactics against them. While brilliantly concentrating their best forces at key positions to defeat the enemy at key moments vital to victory. Plus great to see the enterprise e showing how lethal a sovereign can be to the enemy.
Brilliantly riding the plot to victory.
@@TheIrishRushin Indeed

Me: well the dominion is doomed.
Honestly, I want this to be made official canon and provided with the effects budget necessary to give us actual footage of these battles.
Wait, this isnt cannon?
@@Chris-SmithThe battles itself are. Just the details are made up to plug the gap in details in the series
War is such; thirsty work.
Don't you agree?
Wow, the evolution of the Vulcan mindset, moving them closer to reunification with the Romulans. What a great touch.
when an animal has its back to the wall it will fight with the fury of an animal with nothing left to lose.
The Federation needs to make further usage of surface based phaser weapons, best fit to be lance weapons that could provide the best ground support in siege battles. when it comes to large scale battles the federation always seems to make the mistake of treating all their ships as battleships rather than their actual classifications, they need to use their fighters and escort ships like mirandas, defiants and maybe even sabers as a further skirmishing line to keep the enemy at arms length while their frigates and artillery vessels can provide support from a distance with a seccond escort force behind that can act as a mobile reserve force.
the federation also needs to make the usage of mines more common, throwing self replicating mines in random clusters along well travelled routs they could use them to slow down dominion forces who would have to manoeuvre through them slowly buying the federation more time. The federation could use this to set up traps with automated turrets and small squads of fast moving ships like defiants. if they focus on the Jemhadar fighters and cardasian frigates then their cruisers will lack their support and can't safely engage the federation formations and will need to pull back and regroup, then while they reorganise the federation can catch them flat footed and drive a wedge in dominion lines.
in summary, I love the video
I would think long ranged guided weapons, that act much like fire and forget beyond visual range air to air missiles would also be effective against hostile spacecraft. Once aloft, they could seek out, identify and then destroy them. Volley fired, each weapon could independently find, then target the location on a target most likely to destroy it such as a torpedo bay or the target's power source.
planetary emplacements are a definite advantage however. some might argue that the key is to not let the enemy reach the planet in the first place.
the main reason for the linear tactics used by starfleet here is that they are fighting defensively. on the offense they certainly would fight in the way you describe. thats partially why the 12th fleet was part of Sisko's task force.
mines are good. if you have the time, and good deployment. concentric minefields are only good for slowing the enemy down. the key to mines is using them to break up enemy formations, and force them into killing zones.
i do like the idea of pairing attack ships with turrets. the firepower of the turret and the mobility of attack ships complementing one another.
while it is key that the enemy stays away from populated planets; when I look at an island I see an unsinkable aircraft carrier, and when I look at a stellar body I see a massive turret that's a damn sight harder to destroy.
@@ISAF_Ace yeah. but generally what an attack would do, and did in the case of andoria try to cut it off and wait.
generally the enemy would see a large concentrated defence (Like andoria) and try to encircle it which is exactly what the dominion did, you can predict this and let the enemy through as they punch through nearby less defended systems and you can formulate an appropriate response. Then once they are far enough behind you lines you can strike their rear guard and cut them off from support like the United earth government failed to do at Calder and Tau Ceti during the earth romulan war
By far away best videos in UA-cam much better than the crap on TV.
Nice bravo bravo good to see Enterprise-E in action and Kirk student putting her lessons on the Enterprise from her first battle against Khan to use

What an awesome presintation Thank you for this outstanding video on the Dominion war and its effect on the Vulcans, Logic is great till someone sticks a gun in your face. I can see how the Dominion war would have change the Vulcan way of thinking and would lead to reunification of Romulan / Vulcan People and maybe make them whole again. having looked at both they always seemed to be missing something like both were incomplete.
WOW totally worth the wait this was brilliant 👏 😀 I love it when the enterprise came in, I was Hollering keep up this excellent work sir!!!
Ha even the Oberth's are kicking ass in this one.
And doing it in a way that makes sense.
WAR CANOE!
@@TheMrPeteChannel hilarious af!!!!🤣
Telara was almost gonna make the Dominion suffer their own Cannae from the map of the battle you provided.
Yeah pretty close. Fortunately the cardassians have a good sense of self preservation unlike the jem hadar
Wow the scope and thought that went into these battles is truly deserving of praise. You have a rich imagination and can see the most logical reason for most anything and it is most refreshing to have that level of thought applied to the Star Trek universe for the first time in a long time. You'd write a cracking space napoleon novel...patent pending ;)
I love these videos, I'm watching DS9 at the same time and I have to say it really improves the experience. Pairing these videos with the actual show really makes it seem like there's a brutal war happening instead of it mostly just being described as vague background info.
As an aside, I just wanted to mention that I'm not a huge fan of the whole trailer and premiere thing. It just makes me more impatient for the video ( but I guess that's the point isn't it :) )
Indeed. And my goal always was to build off what's in the show. Watching in chronological order should work well.
I love how the Dominion said "Hell No" when desiding on attacking andorian as they would have gotten distroyed
Wow! Venom you killed it with this video! Damn son!
At 7:17 the picture shows dominion ships. The large ship in the bottom left is very different to the battlecruiser in the bottom left but it is not a battleship. The dominion battleship had wings swept back and no curve like the battlecruiser has. Is it just a battlecruiser but the angle makes it look different perhaps
Different version of the battlecruiser known as the V type.
Oh right v type. In ds9 do the two different battlecruisers exist only because they updated the design or had a cg and model version etc. Once the second battlecruiser is shown in an episode is the original version ever seen in ds9 again? Im wondering are there different types of battlecruiser or only one that they changed the look of and improved its design like they do in tv shows to make them look better although its meant to be the same thing
Wow awesome episode. Narration, writing and art . Models. The Vulcan philosophy at the beginning and the end .was nicely done .
You know what the funniest part of all this is? The Vorta literally learned NOTHING from all of it. They would continue to tHrow away Cardassian lives like this for the rest of the war until the Cardassians understandably turned on them.
Thank you for making this! It's fantastic!
An important theme of DS9 is how war is corrupting. The fact that in the Victory of the defense of Vulcan you note that the Vulcan people were themselves corrupted is very good and appropriate. Despite being so important to Star Trek Vulcan is seldom actually explored and included in these big moments
Excellent chapter in this ongoing story! I look forward to more !
Oh oh!! Ohhhhh sweet!!!! Sweet!!!!!
P.S. Smart move going around Andoria…. I was going to say…. that one may not be worth the trouble boys.
Yeah and that's what the Germans did when invading Russia
I can't wait to see your take on Operation Return. :)
One's again this was fantastic I can't get enough of this really really good work
I love ur narration your story. Would love working with you on a concept series I've been designing
What's the concept?
Thrilling as always venom. Flushing out side comments during ds9 about battles
The SHIPYARD at Epsilon Eridani? No, no, that can't be right- the Federation only has one shipyard, at Utopia Planetia!
(In case its not clear, the above is veritably swimming in sarcasm.)
This is a great story as always think you so much for it
This was soooooo Goodwood! The tactics were logical at time but also bold when needed.
I get to wake up to this!!! Finally the gloves come off of the perennial peaceful Vulcan! When they give themselves to killing its swift and without remorse. Yikes! Imagine a universe where they controlled their emotions with intent to conquer?

The differences between a Vulcan and Romulan merchant is, at lest the Romulan has the decent social politeness to smile as they screw you over in a business deal.
Half of all Vulcan merchants are in fact Romulan spies.
Vulcans broke off into five different civilizations, forming into three empires.
1.) Vulcan, logic tactical power wargamers the run their region of control like grand parent God Fathers. " deep sigh, .." dead pan wit, .. Time again to spank the Klingons ?
3.5e Star Wars Jedi Councilor class/ telepaths. bonus skill: Auto Recall. / self hypnosis.
2.) Trade merchants that know they basic have twice the normal life span, .. bloody space elves. Playing practical jokes on all they can. Main leading cause for myths/ legends of Elf like being on under develop worlds.
3.) Romulans, .. casual smile cause they knew they are better than everyone else, or just tired of dealing with undiscipline young species/ Klingons. More prone to pick unfriendly fights and raids. More or less just for the hell of it.
Ferengi, their females are just .. nudists. Well, .. their planet is a rainy tropical environment. Males just like crisp looking business suites, but even they prefer less clothing when they can. They like humid rainy showers. Humans like steam saunas and Ferengi like doing business deal sitting in pouring warm showers.
Humans, 80% are claim to be under the UFP, but the other 20% do a lot of shady zhit under " plausible deniability."
Many captains are more than happy to jump a Klingon cruiser with their phaser at 1/20th % of power to knock on the other ship's hull just to say hello. Since Klingons love a good fight, give them a good friendly play fight and gift them with whiskey/ beer. The other 5% of them run on a military engineer war cargo ship carriers, they will just snipper you or steam roll murder you. Klingons think its no fun to fight them and Romulans prefer not to provoke them.
Then you have the 1% techno mages, most of them are not even pure human any more. The seek to create hybrid super species .. cool entertainers or creepy Sith Lords.
Klingons, the waring clan houses of the empire. Some houses are more align to human colonies then they are to their home empire. Some are total war mongering pricks and others just like finding new drinking buddies to watch sports with. USA football/ European rugby, soccer, and hockey are Klingons favorite human sports. Most humans die from heart failure and exhaustion in their fifties trying to keep up with Klingons in bar parties and sports. Other than dying in battle, human die celebrating the enjoyment of life.
Other than some friendly ship tactical wargames, everyone more or less knows there are those in all species just like going around murdering each other in their cloak & dagger spy non sense. So most just shrug it off and go about doing their own thing to pass the time.
Then there is the Borg, .. they claim what they want and push technology where ever they can. The techno mages took over a few Borg cubes and use them to poke fun and insult the Klingons with or the Romulans.
" Resistance is futile, but do so anyways .. it makes spanking you more interesting till we grow bored with spanking you.
You will not be assimilated, cause you smell bad and ugly, you have no technological or cultural distinctive to add to our own collective.
But we encourage you to resist this spanking anyhow."
Klingon ship is then hit with an Ion/ EMP burst leaving it powerless drifting in space, follow by the Borg stealing all the Klingon alcohol.
Klingons , " For this insult, you have chosen war."
" Response to the new Borg threat."
Human, " Well, F**K me running sideways ! "
Romulan/ Vulcan, " Do you always have to make things difficult ?"
Klingon, " Sounds like fun, and I have nothing to do at the moment."
Your awesome and awesome video be safe out there have awesome day

Great episode as all ways! I have a question is this the first recognized engagement of the Enterprise-E in the war?
I'd have to double check but quite possibly.
That was an amazing video. Live long and prosper.
Unless I'm mistaken this is the first time I heard mention of the Enterprise taking place in a battle
probably. while there weren't many sovereigns and they were generally held back. at this point starfleet had to commit them.
@@venomgeekmedia9886 the Last Unicorn Games RPG books allude to the USS Gibraltar NCC-75689, for one case - which I believe has been in some novels, too. Possibly the USS Musashi is another contender, and the Tirpitz.
@@venomgeekmedia9886 What I normally heard up to this point was that Enterprise was still on her primary duty at the far border, exploring and making new contacts. Which I always got annoyed by.
So, this might be a dumb question but, after watching star trek from ~1984 on, has there ever been a reason given as to why star ships always seem to approach a solar system on a 2-D plane, instead of just flying in from top or bottom? From a fluff perspective, it makes it so systems can have defense in depth (and I see that as a good thing), but was there ever a "crunchy" reason given? Something like 'traveling outside of the natural gravity plane in a heliosphere causes a massive reduction in (sub)light drive speed' ???
Yeah in reality it is a sphere. But attacking through the planetary plane is best because it gives you the most cover.
Unfortunately us with the 1st RRTF were pulled back earlier. Our combination of Cloaking and experimental armor generators was deemed “ too valuable “ for 6 prototype warships and a heavily modified Sovereign class. We were there at the fall of DS9, we were there for the fall of Betazed. During that battle we got there late and were able to fight off wave after wave of Dominion attacks to keep an escape route open for those ships that survived the 10th fleet massacre. We escorted endeavor in to rescue anyone we could. We were basically fighting all the way back. We were ready to fight for andoria but they had us conduct hit and run attacks from Vulcan. Lost a lot of good friends in that war, saw many more loose it. Looking at all my artificial parts and how little of me is still left I feel the dominion was was my redemption from Wolf 359. I drank with Martok on cardassia because I felt that those I left behind would have done the same were they not killed
That was wonderful, especially the thoughts of the Vulcan in the beginning and at the end - it hints to reunification with their "lost cousins". That could be a mini series of it´s own. (did I hear it right that 10 Mio Vulcans died during the Dominion war? Really?) Although I sometimes get the impression that these war episodes (and the DS9 tv series in general) are quite favorable to the Federation. It seems a bit "unrealistic" to let the Federation win so many battles with fewer numbers just due to smarter tactics and technical advantages that may have been there in comparison to the Cardassian fleets but not to the Dominion´s. But that should not come across as critique, I just wasn´t convinced by so much plot armour (as shown in the DS9 series) for the Federation. They should have suffered more. Your Battlespace series is marvelous and fixes many of these plot wholes.
Given that vulcan had a population of 6 billion. Add to that their major colonies 3 billion each. And the far flung colonies there would easily be over 20 billion vulcans. And so 10 million is likely a small percentage of that.
Don't forget, a lot of the ships the federation was using, Sovereign, Akira, Steamrunner and Defiant classes were built to fight the Borg. An infinitely more dangerous adversary than the Dominion. And SF's idea of hollowing out, up armoring and up weaponizing ships like the Galaxy and Nebula class gave them a true tank of a warship, able to absorb more punishment than their Dominion contemporaries. Starfleet learned a valuable lesson in the USS Odyssey disaster, and admirals like Nacheyev put those lessons to practice.
@@LARGO125 Yes, but the numbers of those advanced ships should be negligible compared to Dominion ships, which had formidable battle ships across all ship classes. Most of SF consisted of old Miranda, Excelsior, Nebula, Ambassador, some Galaxy etc. class ships. Some of them were refitted but most not. Those newer ship classes like Akira, Steamrunner, Norway might have been in production for awhile and should be producable in an acceptable amount of time. But Souvereign and Defiant classes were so rare that I don´t really know if the term "class" is even valid here.
@@venomgeekmedia9886 Very interesting, I didn´t know the numbers but these casualties seem likely. It would be fascinating to see Vulcans in combat, maybe even ground combat. Perhaps I´m reading the wrong Star Trek books. A recommended reading list would be highly appreciated :)
@@jimbeam4736 DS9, went the UFP went to war with the Klingons, Jake Sisko was told by a wounded human when fighting the Klingons he knew Vulcans where 3x stronger and fast than humans along with the Klingons, but he .. Never .. seen anyone move and fight like a Vulcan. The Klingons seem to be holding back on us the whole time but they when into warp speed swarming the Vulcans. You wouldn't believe how the Vulcans screamed as they fought and died enraged. Those bastards took the Vulcans' ears as trophies.
It was from the episode where Jake suffer shell shock the first time in his life.
AWACS? Only those? ANY Fed ship should be able to network with any other Fed ship, designate targets, and direct and adjust fire. This is not a believable restriction on Fed battlespace operations.
Otherwise the battlespace would be far too complex. Most ships fire control systems would be occupied with their own weapons. AWACS are based off science ships which are unarmed but have more sensors.
@@venomgeekmedia9886 if memory serves, the Phoenix ( our first onscreen nebula) was an awacs , or 24th century version, long range sensor dish , and an intelligence gathering capability, ( secretly for a time ) but that dish would have far greater range than most federation ships.
This got my blood pumping - in a good way! Cruises to the left, fighters to the right, battleships in front ... go Starfleet go! Chaaaaarge!!!!!
Hm, Babel is Wolf 424 and not located near there on the map. As are Andoria, Regulus, Weytahn, ......
Aside, it all lacks a bit of a 3D feeling, as line is confronted with line. Well, why not coming from above or below?
great information
Wait, how can the Enterprise be involved in this battle? Worf only joins the crew of DS9 after the destruction of the Enterprise D at Varidion 3. And Worf joins the crew of DS9 before the war with the Dominion. Have I missed something?
There's another enterprise
Do you think that Starfleet ever used the defelctor blast weapon that enterprise used against the Borg, it would be interesting the think of they ever developed it as a single use weapon maybe to counter dominion battleships.
@Venom Geek Media. Have you ever read a novel called The Battle of Betazed?
8:21 holy crap that federation fleet is huge 120 ships easy
yep though the galaxies really make it feel bigger.
I've been thinking any Spacedock type Starbase battles as love to see Runabouts of course the Siege of Starbase 74 of course Starbase 74 had time to get war time arms installed it had 12 Garrison Ships and dozens of Runabout class Cutters against Dominion flanking attack show the Dominion what a ground up station unlike ad hoc DS9 can do likely the Defiant class Battlle Frigates operating there
These videos are awesome!
Lore Reloaded: "It's Spock's fault".
Well now he's going full tin foil saying that there was a secret alliance between the borg and starfleet.
@@venomgeekmedia9886 I have a more likely theory: Section 31 is working to weaken the Federation to institute top-down control over its people in the name of "safety" or "security".
@@TimothyChapman don't think that works. i feel like section 31 is more outward looking. subverting the federations enemies so that their people can continue to enjoy luxury and liberty.
@@venomgeekmedia9886 For some reason, the slow strip of our freedoms in real life (which has sped-up in recent years) has made me skeptical about the motives of Section 31. I don't believe that entities that conceal their existence would work for anyone's benefit except their own and those that benefit them. Just look at all the controversies that various government agencies have sparked that do *NOT* conceal their existence. EG: CIA, NSA, CDC, FBI, FAA, IRS, etc.
@@TimothyChapman So, Section 31 would be analogous to CIA/MOSSAD, huh? I'd tend to agree...😡
The opening brawl between the 35 cardassian and 32 federation was interesting

The AWACS ships should be named SWACS for space instead of air.
"we suffer not for our own benefit, but for the infinity that inherit the world we create." that's near God-tiered stuff.
Another fantastically awesome and gorgeously fantastic kick add humdinger of a video. When the federation has ut backs to the walls it comes out fighting and savagely too with all the fury of a cornered beast defending its home m as the romulans in 2161 and now the dominion learnt to its cost. Though of course this would not be the last time that the dominion would threaten Vulcan and they still would have to fight hard to protect their world in the aftermath of the fall if betazed.
I would definitely love to see some star wars battlespace
If only UA-cam would let me.
@@venomgeekmedia9886 shame because I love in depth battle analysis I'm looking forward to seeing your next battle space tomorrow
@@venomgeekmedia9886 when is that Halo battle space going to come up?
I can't help but notice that all combatants seem to be locked into a two-dimensional mind-set, thus limiting their tactical options.
If you'd like to make 3d battle maps feel free. But it wouldn't change things as much as you think...
I'd love to watch *this* one!
Can I just say something. If the Roddenberry purists had their way, the entire Dominion storyline could never have happened because such an enemy and the actions said enemy took, would invariably change the Utopian Federation and such.
This is the Movie that we need!!!
Wonder why the Federation did not use sub space weapons, like the Sona did?
Because when defending a star system you don't want to end up destroying it with a subspace rift
True…but if the federation got desperate enough, they should have used them in unoccupied systems, while engaging the dominion. Better that than dominion troops in London, NYC, etc.
@@otiscarter1356 i suppose the question is do you want to face a principled defeat, or a dishonorable victory. also if you start using them so do the dominion, and given that such weapons have a good chance of backfiring....
Venom…when you’re fighting on your home turf, it is total war..schorched earth. Just look at Russia during WWII and the Napoleonic war. They destroyed everything while in retreat. A sub space weapon at wolf 359 woulda saved 10000 star fleet personnel.
@@otiscarter1356 that ignores fact that in both cases Russia was an authoritarian regime. Whereas the federation is a democracy. Do you thing most Americans would willing accept scorched earth policy.
Love me a Galaxy wing turning the tide of a battle!
Starfleet needs to make a low war for impulse ship you can have a low warp drive without an antimatter or dilithium crystals you pay can't get above what three with it though cuz of the romulans use fusion reactors instead of antimatter for a lot of those early ships
