Every painter is so different. She focuses on how important planning is. Another painter says he doesn’t know what will happen as he pulls out of the paint , the painting. Good to hear how she approaches her art.
I love it, and your talk was just what I needed, as I have been fighting with myself getting stronger glasses too instead of just relaxing like I used too. Thank you for your encouraging video.
You use techniques that are truly wise...Most efficient ..One of my favorite techniques that you use ..maybe two ..removing paint to define the drawing..
I love the painterly style but as an representational artist who has done many portraits, I have been habituated to painting tightly. I too love Sargent, Fechin, and I have seen Quang Ho's work in Colorado and have even met him but I am finding it difficult to paint anything like them. Your video has given me hope.
I like to paint “ the feeling of whatever I am focussing on “ .... e.g. Whether figurative or abstract - a loose painterly style and it also fits with my training as a Contemporary dance where I also prefer that the trained body is strong, sensuel and intuitive so that you have all kind of qualities in every movements you are doing
I decided to teach myself to watercolor last winter. I was all starry eyed and didn’t see the dark side of it coming. After a couple months I joined a watercolor Facebook group. I was so new… I didn’t have my own style, still didn’t really understand much. Next thing I knew every time I sat down to paint it was with trepidation, stress and anxiety. I’d get to the middle, and not understanding it’s just the ugly phase that always happens, I’d sit there with waves of failing and disappointment running thru me. I was also doing challenges that were given to us each week that were too hard for me. I told myself it was good to force myself. Usually they turned out and I liked them but in the end I quit because it just didn’t feel good… it was supposed to be relaxing and fun. Several months have gone by now. I still want to paint. I think I wanted that energy off me so I’ve let time go by. I guess when the time is right I’ll go back. I think the biggest learning curve for me wasn’t so much learning to paint it’s learning to manage that criticizing voice that so sneaky and never shuts up.
Hi Chelsea. I love so much this video!!! And the reference to Loo Solomon (Imposter Syndrom). I can't wait to receive your guide. Thank you so much for helping us! 🎨🙏😍
I'm late to this video but I was curious about something you mentioned - that you taught yourself to design and sew dance clothing! I am a former ballet and modern dancer. I've always dreamed of creating a line of dancewear and somehow incorporate my artwork into it as well. Do you still create dancewear? I'd love to see it! Anyway, I have saved many of your videos and I have learned so much from them.
What are your views on using walnut oil. Btw your patience on painting is remarkable. I love your vocal information during your paintings. I have been a painter for years. I have a master in fine arts but my life career led me out of the arts. I am back and your valuable voice is so encouraging
I love this painting, it's so ethereal and beautiful, but I loved your commentary even more. You said so many things that really resonated with me, it made so much sense! I only hope I can apply these principles in my own paintings! I saved it so I can find it easily again. 😊
Your work looks traditional to me. I didnt go to college or major in art so im very unaware or most historical famous people. Your work looks like some famous artist way before the people you mentioned . you know theres energy signatures out there to recieve as thought and some signatures have over time great emphasis placed on them and it makes them even stronger energy. Just as you hold your brush real long and kinda cat stare off into space like daydreamin,? It could be an old strong energy signature from a famous artist way way back still playing out continued existence in reality this short instant.
Our whole existence is within the instant. Yea I like your work cause it looks like theirs and like I always said about music is its gotta be as good or better and everyone will love it.
Thank you for this wonderful video. My artwork has definitely been caught up in too much "tightness" recently. Now I am able to redirect myself and get back on track. :)
Thats what stuck me. Im landscape but i started a 10×14 and now my detail is too small so im kinda dissin small canvas but ima poe ahhteese so ive been framin 3 60×60 thin ply. DONT USE THIN PLY EITHER. AND I WENT FROM CARDBOARD AND POSTER PAPER THEY WARP TOO!.
Why is it that some paintings hit you like a sledgehammer and others don't? Paintings that have the power to change lives. Why do you think this is. Some paintings are like a fervid hallucination and others a wet Sunday afternoon. That certain je nais sa quoi. The magic. Such as a late Turner or a Durer, a Modigliani, a Vermeer. WHAT is that otherness and sublimity? Where does it come from? Answers on a postcard, sil vous plait
Painting materials are expensive and apparently oil paintings has materials with toxic chemicals. And you still need to clean the brushes with chemicals... But i still painted and not care anymore, if I have no primer as for the brush, i buy cheap ones, which i can just dispose. Next time, I’ll get back to water colors.
No one is born gifted. We all practice a skill to improve it. Unless you're into impressionism, cubism or modern art. Then just throw some shit around and talk a bunch of bullshit really confidently. You know, like a sociopath.

I am finding your loose paintings very inspiring and they make me realize how much I need to loosen up!
“Kind and playful” - brilliant! Just what I needed to hear.
And I really love the true wisdom of “ be kind and constructive in every critique and especially - be playfull and play often 🧡🌸
You’re the best! Love all your videos
I like that. I needed that. You should consider being an instructor at an artist retreat. Also great for young artists in their development
Muchísimas gracias Chelsea por tanta luz GRACIASSSSS
I love it, and your talk was just what I needed, as I have been fighting with myself getting stronger glasses too instead of just relaxing like I used too. Thank you for your encouraging video.
Wow, love the end results. Really like the ‘carving’ you very often do.
You use techniques that are truly wise...Most efficient ..One of my favorite techniques that you use ..maybe two ..removing paint to define the drawing..
Yup, this was just what I needed to hear today! Great video full of valuable guidance 😊
J'aime bien, bravo, merci pour ce partage

Thank you for sharing these valuable insights. I've painted for 50 years, still learning every day.
It's an amazing piece.
Great video for beginners remember guys everything is subjective art is a romantic self expression
Your comments and insights are really well stated. Love the way you express them. Great job.

I could have written this myself. It is so frustrating.
Great insight and invaluable information. I’m now into my second sketch and have watched the video three times so far.

Relating so strongly to everything you say literally makes me emotional… thank you for sharing all you do and say ❤️
Very nice, I love it!
I want to paint enough to where my Edge easel looks like yours! There’s a lot of brush mileage there~ I did the pro-am ballroom thing, too. :)

Thank you so much! Your kind words mean a great deal to me.
Beautiful,nice sharing friend😃✌️...
"paint what you see" isn't it Schmid's quote ? I've heard him saying that a lot of times and for him it really works to paint more loose
It is a centuries old adage.
Charles Reid wrote a book called "Painting What You Want to See."
You are painting like Zorn. Lose brush strokes and the effects of light, really beautiful.
I appreciate your comments about not being too hard on yourself.
Can I do this in Guage, and or acrylic. I can,t use oil. Thank YOU, THIS IS LOVELY.

Such a great video that you have produced and I would like to know if it's oil or acrylic paint that you use?…. thank you and lots of luck
That's oil. She's an oil painter. 😉🎨

To say that talent has nothing to do with it is false.
I like the painting , it's the talking that put me off. but that's what life is like, I could probably learn a lot if I mute
