    Cream and butter consistencies are so important to fully utilizing the medium. It doesn’t help that in Facebook watercolor groups, people are constantly being criticized for their paintings not being completely transparent. Or they shouldn’t use white and shouldn’t use black-more arbitrary “rules” that have made me leave most groups.

    There have been so many times that I nearly baled on a painting because it looked like a muddy mess. I stuck to it and then all of a sudden…it looked great. Don’t give up. Time away, back up, take your time, and don’t give up. Excellent advice. Thanks!

    Because you're my first watercolour teacher ever, I only noticed the 3rd lesson, of how so many watercolour artists dont get to the butter and cream texture only later in my journey. It is so true. It's the fantastic way to get that ultra depth. Thanks Jenna. You da BEST.

    Because I'm coming from learning to paint in acrylics, I found that the creamy consistency came natural to me. So many people tried to teach me otherwise, to get more soft, pastel colors. My work may always look like a watercolor artist who paints like an acrylic artist, but I'm ok with that :)

    Hullo Jenna, I truly admire your bravery in switching your go to paint brand! You have a very generous spirit too. I have also switched my go to brand to DaVinci Paints of California and I am overjoyed with the selections available in their watercolor paints and their other paint lines, gouache, acrylic, oils too! I had been off of paint and paper for over 15 years working digitally only. I do love how open the online world is to new techniques and the willingness for experimentation. I was taught that to use white in my watercolor paintings was akin to a crime! I am glad you are exposing the ideas of freeing up yourself and your paintings, thank you.

    Very interesting! I've dabbled in water color most of my life and never realized that I was doing it right lol! While I admire those loose washy looking pieces that somehow take shape, it's a technique that I've been unable to master so I just keep using them in the consistency you mention. Always thought I was doing it wrong.....😂

    Your course sounds amazing. One of the best things I ever did was get a huge book of mixed media paper. I have some 'budget' watercolors and I play in it, I do exercises, and most importantly mock ups before I attempt a piece. ❤

    Thank you! I thought I was the only one using “butter” consistency in my beginning watercolor paintings. I love acrylics because I can layer paint on. Watercolor felt incomplete with just the lighter washes, so I finished my paintings with heavier paint. Problem fixed. I’ve actually had other artists question my decision to do that. I’m a fan for life, Jenna ❤

    • @CarolinaCarolina-ph9mx
      @CarolinaCarolina-ph9mx 9 місяців тому +2

      You have to watch the thickness because watercolor, unlike acrylics, will likely crack and flake off at some time down the line if it is too thick, so you don't want to cake it on. If you have had more than one watercolorist notice and question you about your process, then they may be seeing that while your work may look wonderful right now, you may be heading for trouble down the line. We can easily get around a lot of 'rules' but there are usually a few decent reasons behind most. You should check out some of the liquid acrylics . . . I say, and then realize that they may be too runny for the effect you want. Nothing wrong with mixed media, either, if you want to start with watercolor but then add some thick acrylic touches. Acrylic has a binder that will hold together that watercolor lacks. That said, you do you. I am definitely not going to stand in the way of anyone enjoying themselves with some paper and paint. 🥰
