I cite my sources and they may differ than other people's accounts, so I don't guarantee the actual accuracy of my videos.
Clutch has weathered a long career that’s spanned three decades, dealt with big and small labels & they’ve also survived a huge shift in the music industry in the 2000’s and 2010’s. Their fans known as Gearheads have learned that Clutch’s sound continually evolves & today, let’s talk about the history of the band.
For many people, Clutch first became popular in the early 90’s with their first full length record Transnational Speedway League: Anthems, Anecdotes and Undeniable Truths which produced the single A Shogun Named Marcus. The band’s origins dated back to around 1988-1989 when Clutch would be formed by four friends who attended Seneca Valley High School in Germantown, Maryland including vocalist Neil Fallon, guitarist Tim Sult, bassist Dan Maines and drummer Jean-Paul Gaster. One story I read claimed that the band didn’t form until after high school at least according to guitarist Tim Sult. -
When band originally formed and they called themselves Moral Minority. Before moving onto the name Glut Trip. The band would try out a few singers in their early days before Fallon fronted the band. By the summer of 1991 they officially changed their name to clutch telling people it stood for City/State Liberation Union To Cleanse Humanity.
Due to the proximity of Washington DC, the band would be influenced by groups including Fugazi and Minor Threat. And the band’s early sound was more representative of hardcore punk. Frontman Neil fallon would tell Louder Sound
“I can’t count how many times I would see Fugazi roll up to a place that wasn’t suited to a rock show and play under fluorescent lights,” “No light show, no t-shirts for sale, they just burned down the house. That bare-bones ethic affected us deeply" he would say.
Fallon would tell psyhology today how punk influenced him early on revealing “I got into singing just because it was something cool to do in high school … . I hung out with people that were into music that were on the margins, kind of in the periphery of acceptable music,” “There was a time where punk rock, hard core and heavy metal were shunned, whereas now it has become much more acceptable. It seemed that much more of a threat involved. And I think that what attracted me was the taboo of it" he would say.
While politics would play a heavy part in the band’s who originated from D.C. it never really found it’ way into Clutch’s music.
It wasn’t just bands like minor threat and fugazi who influenced band’s music as the go-go scene was as equally influential. Go go music would incorporate elements of funk along with hip hop, the blues as well as R&B and included audience participation.
Clutch would soon become well known for their visual lyrics written by frontman Neil Fallon & he would tell psychology today I’ve always been attracted to the idea of a tall tale, where you take a truth, and you exaggerate it. But any story, like if you take myth for example, it may be filled with exaggeration and half-truths. But ultimately, it’s to arrive at or depict a universal truth.”
The band would release their first EP, Pitchfork, in October of 1991. Following the release of their first EP the band would attend a corrosion of conformity concert where they gave out their EP which eventually found it’s way into the hands of a kid named James Graw. Graw for his part ran a fanzine in Kansas and It turned out earache records advertised in that magazine and they soon signed Clutch.
. The following year they would release their first major commercial EP 1992’s Passive Restraints. And labels at the time were signing punk-metal bands like Helmet, a band that Clutch bore some resemblance to. The group’s second EP would get them noticed by major labels and they would soon sign with Atlantic subsidiary EastWest.
In 1993 Clutch would release Transnational Speedway League introducing the band to a larger audience with the track "A Shogun Named Marcus"" Clutch would soon establish themselves as one of the best groove bands out there. They also soon started to get labeled as stoner rock alongside band
“What happened to?” Are you kidding. CLUTCH is the last man standing. No drama, pumping out great records again and again. Still killing it live. I will never turn my back on them. All the quality, none of the drama.
It's a rare thing that 4 friends form a band 30 years ago and still like each other lol, no drama or bullshit (there's enough in this world) and I love them for it!
Damnnn Straight
only the greatest band of all time.... no big deal.
Rhcp?
@@kodykindhart5644 are you fucking kidding? 😅😅😅
"Whatever happened to Clutch?" They just keep getting better and we love them for it!
Right? I mean, I'll watch a Clutch vid every time, but "what happened to" them? Nothing aside from getting better and better.
Hell, they've done mini live yt shows when the world closed.
He’ll Yeah 🤘 one of the best bands ever !
I feel like this was a click bait title. My sentiments navigating here was: something "happened"? Clutch will be with us always.
Yeah same here, i saw clutch and was gonna watch already, but figured the title was clickbait because they were supposed to be touring but the pandemic shut that down, but i believe are gonna be back out soon if not already out playing
@@BigSmiley0TV They're gonna be in Ashville,NC in September and I will be there.
Clutch didn’t go “anywhere”. They have been EVERYWHERE!
That's what I came to comment on because it is absurd to present this as a "Whatever Happened To...", which implies that they are missing in action so to speak. CLUTCH is currently one of the hugest, most popular "underground" bands in the world and they have never been missing or unaccounted for in any way. I was living in Maryland when CLUTCH began playing out circa 1992 and have been a loyal fan ever since... nearing my 50th time seeing them live. I'll tell ya "Whatever Happened To..."... CLUTCH have been killing it all along and issuing some of the best albums ever recorded.
This.
Should be called "Story of Clutch"
100%
They will be @Themachineshop in Flint Mi sept of this year . 2 sold out shows. Im lucky enought to have a ticket 👊🤘
Clutch: The one rock band the music industry couldn't ruin despite their best efforts.
Amen to that!🤙🏼
This implies that Clutch had success. They haven't, that's why you plebes buy everything limited edition and live streams. They poor. Just like you..
@@ClutchthaWeen Clutch has had a thirty year career steadily making music on their own terms, writing their own songs and playing their own instruments-a feat none of your "successful" pop acts are capable of. Go back to your safe space and listen to more Doja Cat. Real music is not made for the emotionally fragile.
@@kennendo8922 awww Kenny. Doja Cat has more talent by herself the the entire band of Clutch. Maybe not Dan... But that's being kind.
@@ClutchthaWeen I'm sorry bro, but DC wouldn't be shit if she didn't have an ARMY of producers, song writers and studio techs backing her up from the get go. Modern pop singers are selected for their image-not their TALENT. It's been that way for decades and Doja is no exception. Wait thirty years and see if anyone thinks her music is still relevant. Or if anyone even remembers her.
Clutch is still rockin away, what do you mean what happened to them?
Hell yeah they are.
Yeah i don't get it either.
Click bait
They've been doing Kick-Ass live streams all through this pandemic from their jam space.
No kidding!
They’re still kickin’ ass. That’s what happened.
100%
I'm waiting for the next tour.
@@timthielbar795 I love the fact a video was made on C!....the titles misleading tho.
Clutch is doing just fine
A-effin-men!! They are the absolute greatest, underrated ,underplayed but somehow that works out just fine. Those who know,KNOW!!
One of the coolest things I saw during the pandemic was Neil recording a song with a pre-teen fan and his dad. Not only are they the greatest band ever, they’re a heckuva nice guys.
Yep. Seen the video too. Mr Fallon went that extra mile. True gent.
When they did their first UA-cam COVID-19 show they were asking if the sound was right and Neil read my response and said good deal. Lol, for a grown ass man I was giddy as a school girl.
Jesus, that seems like it was at least five years ago
delco detention. you should check them out
I'm not gonna lie, I'm a pretty jaded-hardened dude, but that put tears of joy in eyes.
"whatever happened to Clutch" says the guy who doesn't listen to Clutch, to the internet who does.
Clutch is a band that managed to make a fan base who are loyal to them. Clutch has a nice career and will go as long as they like.
Plus the fact they will play just about anywhere. I'm originally from where they are from. In '93 I moved to a nowhere town (still in high school) and was like no more local Clutch shows. I was wrong. They came around twice a year some years to play in front of 100 or less people. I don't live there anymore, but the last I heard in 2018 they were still doing shows there.
Something tells me that after this pandemic hiccup, they'll be ready to go for many years...their music is timeless, and they really seem to enjoy what they're doing. No shortage of fans either.
Damn sorry I turned it to 70 from 69 comments!!
@@jarifmanx So I saw them play a small stage in the side room of a GOGO bar in NJ called DD's in 2003, and they were still playing for a small crowd, maybe 150 ppl. Mastodon was OPENING for them doing pre-release tour for Leviathan which Neil added vocals to. That was a sick show because it was so small, and because it was right before Mastodon started getting big. I'm pretty sure you can hire them to play your backyard party if you have a bit of cash.
@@johnschumacher9064 Nice right. They put on a helluva show. It's just gotten better over the years. I was lucky enough to live in Landover when they first started gigging around the DC-Metro area. I was 14 then. Those were usually small shows, 30 people some even less. Over the years I've seen them play for 5,000 people one show and the next show has 50. I love that they do that. Really shows they care about their fans. I haven't seen them since they played with Primus out in Vegas a few years ago and the one before that they played with the Wailers and Jimmies Chicken Shack. Clutch has always been one of my favorites. I love that include Go-Go music at their shows. Go-Go is HUGE around D.C., Northern Virginia, and PG County.
Title: What ever happened to Clutch?
Me: They've been producing albums and touring the world, non stop, since the 90s.
Rock and roll true stories, do you know, how i know, you are a narc?
lol
Exactly, I'm not a huge fan, but I respect their work ethic when it comes to touring and in the studio being prolific is how music should be.
If you do those things to can lead a decent life as a musician. Plus when bands/performers like them do hang it up, the fanbase is understanding and is thankful for putting stuff out they enjoyed.
It's always a joy to find bands that have success without being on the mainstream radar. You found them, you'll find some of your people.
This goes for every genre of music. Just scratch below the charts, and like any gem. The awesome holy fuck valuable ones that would lose value and substance if cut are there.
Raise a glass of whatever to the touring bands, raise a glass to the musicians who are satisfied with being music you gotta discover outside the mainstream promotion machine. To the people who just want to play whether it be to 60,000+ or 6.
Clutch has put out some of the greatest music of any hard rocking band. They may have changed over the years but they still kick ass.
I love paying 50 bucks for a ticket, driving 2 hours out of state only to find one of my favorite bands ignore their glorious past and play ZERO songs from their first two albums.. 🙄 .. ☕
@@amstel5468 Really? That sucks. I wonder if it's because Neil's voice has changed over the years? I have often though of how stuff from pitchfork would sound these days. Those are some of my favorite songs.
@@STLMTB Pro-Pain did the same thing. It was so weird. But I think the guys in Pro-Pain might have actually gotten screwed out of the rights to their classic songs..
@@amstel5468 LOL nothing shits me more
@@amstel5468 nah man, Pro-Pain can play whatever they want to at their live shows. But you gotta keep in mind, they also have what, 13, 14 studio albums to cover, and generally only play for about 90 minutes. So yeh, they gotta hit the high spots and sometimes people’s favorite songs get missed.
Blast Tyrant is still one of the greatest rock albums of all time in my opinion. Love Clutch!
I have to agree. I'm a big fan of Strange Cousins as well.
Stayed in my cd player in my car for probably 2 years
Yeah blast tyrant is pretty solid throughout
Self Title is a masterpiece.
Elephant Riders hands down
They're still kicking ass with all 4 original members, wtf?
clickbait pos
Clutch has never left us. They are the most criminally underrated band in rock history. I've seen them many times since the mid 90s. In Ohio Pennsylvania and Florida and have never been disappointed. They consistently put out excellent records. If you're not listening you're missing out
At the GARGOYLE in warren OH.?
They did what good whiskey does, they became deeper and more exploratory in their musical flavors, without straying too far from the original spirit.
Nice way of putting it.
@@eyellgeteven9928 you guys know whiskey doesn't age in the bottle, right? I mean, look, the analogy sucks. We'd never have known what they 'tasted like' before. That's a fine wine comparison.
@@bbb462cid good bourbon and scotch whiskey (single or double malt) does age in casks before the bottling process. 🤦♂️wow
It's called figurative language. Quit anylizing everything. Let the analogy slide jeez
@@tajbaber9425 Dude it was a dumb try-to-be-a-cool-kid thing to say. Deal. And great try with the "good" bourbon and scotch flex but you're way too much of a tryhard right now.
Mr Blutarsky… Whisky ages in the cask.
It’s arguable that Clutch is more popular now than ever. So yeah. They been here.
Hell yes they have been! They Also been headlining riot fest a cpl times a few years ago
Clutch is probably the hardest working band in the industry
Agree, they are more popular now, especially since book of bad decisions
@@don_ald1 the only thing that could slow them down was the pandemic.
Psychic Warfare hit 11 on billboard top 200
Clutch definitely is simultaneously underrated and yet very popular. They’re one of the few examples where a band is able to be consistent, drama less and balances the music and the artists, the skill has aged like a fine wine and have been able to keep fans loyal and not spoiled. One of the greatest bands of our time.
Clutch continues to do what they do. Never making albums that sucks!
And never putting on a bad show, no matter the size of arena
Sucky album and Clutch are words that cannot we be said in the same sentence.
@@BillGoodman76 You need to edit your post...you just DID say both in the same sentence! We can't have that.
RIGHT ! How many bands can say that ? Whats wrong with this guy ? Besides he hungry for clicks , or has no clue ! Should boil him in oil and sell the fat for soap . OHH ! I brought a Soapmaker reference ! LOL !
And all on account of his terrible manners.
Going into their 4th decade and have never compromised their sound.
That's right!! And that's because their sound is so multifaceted and not afraid to incorporate new / different things to keep it interesting... for us and them!
The Doom Saloon streams during lock down were great!!!!
I was hoping they'd keep those up. I'd have gladly bought tickets.
We were never locked down..
What Happened to Clutch.....well they have consistently put out a shit ton of great albums. They have consistently toured, and if I had a guess will continue to do so!
Sorry, they could have been SO MUCH MORE!!!!! Those first two albums aren't just good, THEY'RE LEGENDARY 🎸🥁🎤.. Never heard anyone say that about any of their other efforts.. ☕
@@amstel5468 yes the first couple albums are classic. As for the rest of their catalog you need to listen because they honestly haven't released a flop yet. Ask anyone that knows of Clutch how great of an album Earth Rocker is. They are one of the few bands I can think of that have released albums frequently and without line-up changes. But seriously check out all their albums, most are great from start to finish. If you don't think so for some reason, I guarantee you'll find a handful of kick ass tunes on each album.
@@jaredperkins8066 Oh I know there's good shit on the other albums. Just not a lot of LEGENDARY shit like the beginning. I actually heard a newer song recently and it was BAD ASS!!!!
@@amstel5468 agreed. Just couldn't tell if you'd listened to much of their stuff after the first couple albums when reading the previous reply. Clutch is definitely an under rated band that keep kicking ass year after year.
@@jaredperkins8066 All honesty, I need to put the time in and find the songs that are next level.. 🎵
They released Transnational Speedway and no one has heard from them ever since! It's a mystery even to this day, which gives me an "Electric Worry!" I heard they became "Soapmakers" in "Oregon!" We miss them with a "Pure Rock Fury" so to speak!
Nicely played, sir
Noice!! Haha...😆🤘
It's like a Clutch Mad Libs. Lol.
I was to understand they met a quick death in Texas.
@@theredman2783 But first they smoked "Spacegrass" with a "Shogun named Marcus!"
Starting listening to Clutch in highschool. Clutch rode with me all through the Marines in all my deployments. Keep them and The Company Band as a cattle rancher.
Easily one of the best, most professional, hard-working bands in rock history.
One of the best rock bands in US history. Heavy, creative, clever, consistent. I’ve seen them several times but playing with Mastodon was over the top awesome.
I saw them in a tiny little place in Pocatello, Idaho back in 1998 with Ultraspank, Stuck Mojo, and Sevendust. It was a fucking phenomenal show.
I saw them and Mastodon too. Rocked my world brother.
WORLD history!!! Seen em here in the UK 4 times, with COC n Stinking Lizaveta was the 👌 👍
Clutch is one band you never hear anyone say negative about them.
False. JP has made enemies everywhere
They suck. Is that negative enough?
Kind of skipped over the fact that they are mostly a live band witch is how they make their money, playing on about 200 shows a year (recent timeline excluded) and the bullet point on that note is they change their set list every show
They got an extensive catalog of rad music ! Ive seen em 4 times over the last 20 years and im mad i havnt seen em more ! I could go on an on ...bout these dudes

I have not watched this video yet but can tell you exactly what happened to Clutch. They kept getting better and are one of the greatest living rock bands on Earth today. These guys always have and still do kick fucking ass.
They became the greatest rock band of the last 25 years. Thats all
They've been busy being one of the most relevant, successful rock bands of the last 20 years.
Relevant?? Lmao.
2nd full album “Clutch” is still one of my favorite albums Alltime! It’s lyrically pure genius. It’s the gateway drug to the stoner rock genre. 👍🏻😁

This album is a masterpiece. Of all the great music that was created in the 90s, this album is among the best. (I'd rank it in the top 5). I also had the privilege of witnessing them live during this time, and it was something to behold.

Clutch is still going.. They always made the music they loved not what the machine wanted..... MUCH RESPECT!!!!
One of the most consistent, hard working, tightest live bands around. Same 4 guys for 30 years, and they've only got better with age.
"Jam Room" has to be my favorite, but there is definitely greatness in all of their albums.
yup JAM ROOM rules bro......top 3 CLUTCH albums imo...cheers from oregon
Mick Schauer sadly passed away in 2019. He is dearly missed by everyone who knew and loved him. He was a great guy and an amazingly talented musician.
Clutch is no one trick pony . They've never let me down .
What do you mean whar happened to Clutch? They're still kicking ass, end of story
One of the best bands out there. Very underrated and unappreciated. Listening to them still today for almost last 27 year's.
Clutch is my favorite rock band. Been a fan since the early 90s.
CLUTCH is the best band out there. Start with the first album.....and work your way thru the catalogue till present day and you get a clear vision of how a band should evolve.....as induviduals, as a collective, and as musicians. Cheers Gearheads!!
Clutch doesn't have a genre...they are a genre
For anyone who reads this, Clutch is Rock'N'Roll's best kept secret. If you are a fan of great music, then these are the guys for you. They are my absolute favorite band, and when I don't know what I want to listen to, it's my go to.......ALWAYS
their self titled album is one of the best albums ever. spacegrass is a perfect song.
My favorite C album. All 13 tracks, no skips.
Aaannnnddddd off I go to listen to spacegrass for the millionth time. Never gets old.
Spacegrass and 7 Jam are so good, and that's on top of all the other songs on the album like Prison Planet, Body of John Wilkes Booth, and both parts of Big News. I'm pretty sure I've heard every clutch song released as well as most of the unreleased songs, and still haven't found one that's been disappointing.
I discovered Clutch late... lifelong music fan... Sabbath, Maiden, Priest, Rush, and a hundred more... Clutch may be the best band I have ever heard.
Saw Sepultura/Fear Factory/Clutch show in Portland. Loved the band ever since.
Hell yeah! I saw that tour in Seattle. First time I heard Clutch.
I saw that tour in San Antonio, Texas. It was for the Chaos AD tour!
Saw that show in New Haven, Connecticut and Fudge Tunnel was right before Sepultura. So it was four bands that night.
Insane evening - Alex Newport’s (FT) guitar kept going out of tune so at the end of their set he smashed it into a million pieces onstage a la Pete Townshend. When Sepultura went on, Max Cavalera’s 4-string guitar was horribly out of tune as well so in the middle of the song, he slammed the guitar down and stage dove. He apologized when he got back onstage and croaked out “sorry about that… in Sepultura, things sometimes get fucked up.” (You have to imagine his voice saying those words in his tone and accent to get the full effect.)
I talked to the bassist of FT when I saw him in Edinburgh the following summer at the Fringe Festival and brought up that night. He remembered it well and said “it was misbehaving so Alex had to put it out of its misery.” 😅
that would have been fucking epic. holy shit
I saw that tour in Baltimore, MD. but FUDGE TUNNEL was also on the bill.
Thanks for doing a story on one of my favorite bands of all time.
My friend is a guitar tech for the band Lucero and they toured opening for Clutch in 2019 so they’re definitely still around.
Damn that must have been an awesome tour
Holy shit, that's two bands I'd love to see play together.
Loved that Show! The Sword, Lucero and Clutch! It was like a dream come true!
You should do one on why Kim Deal quit the Pixies, then went back and quit again.
The needle ruins everything...
My old band had the good fortune to open up for these guys a few times years ago. It really opend up a lot of doors for us. They all treated us really well.
I’m reading these comments and seeing all of these people saying all these great things about Clutch, and you know what? They are dead f’n right! Been loving them since 94 and still rocking them today.
Clutch has never left, and they've aged like wine. The magic between the four is unmatched and their live shows are still VEEERRY lively. I went to one last night and I'm still sore lol
More Clutch, please!
Whatever happened to Clutch? They're still being awesome. End of video.
They are still out there and doing GREAT!
I watched this because it was about Clutch. Thanks for a brief band history refresher. They became Rock Wizards - is what happened to Clutch. They pulled Excalibur out of the ‘Rock’. They keep evolving and getting better with each release and I can’t wait for more pre-WM releases to be re-recorded on WM.
One of my most favorite bands EVER!!!
Hell yeah!
For real. Clutch is the dictionary definition of "profitable major-label band." Never a major headliner like Pantera but never a disappointment like Puddle of Mudd or an embarrassment like Candlebox. Clutch deserves all of their success.
They almost never miss Detroit on a tour and I've had to have seen them nearly 30 times. The pulse of my life in many ways. Where everyone catching them from?
Dawg, they are probably the greatest "rock" band working today. JP is the one of the greatest drummers that I've ever heard, and Neil is one of the most captivating front peeps that I have ever seen.
They are literally the most consistent band out there. New records every 2-4 years, touring the world consistently, and interact with their fans through social media all the time.
I was so confused as to why this is a “what ever happened to”. Nothing happened to them, they’re still the best rock and roll band in the world.
I got into Clutch in the early 90's and have been a big fan ever since. Lots of great albums but Blast Tyrant is my fav!
Clutch is fucking awesome that's what happened to them!
Every damn comment was my first thought.... "Whatever happened????" my man the almighty Clutch machine hasn't gone anywhere and has been consistently KILLING it for 30 years!!!!!!!
They are still makin killer rock and roll
What happened to them? Really?!?!? They have been churning out badass music and live tours for 30 years. They're one of the last great rock bands.
The greatest band most people don't know. The greatest live shows ever. Clutch literally helped save my life.(story for another lifetime).
I listen to CLUTCH every day. They still bring it to the table, without fail! They will be my "go to" til I die!
I've been lucky enough to see them 26 times. Such a fun show!
They are very much alive and well doing very much their own thing! Anyone who saw them in the mid 90’s knows what’s up, I will never forget seeing them for the first time. An older brother of an ex G friend told me to check them out so I did, and they came to town. I didn’t think much at first, just another band I thought, well I’m still cranking that shit to this day!
The Elephant Riders RULES!!!!
Yes! My favourite Clutch album. Got such a warm & fuzzy tone. Great songs too. "Eight Times Over Miss October . . . "
It’s awesome how well these guys have done for themselves, and how they’ve stuck together over the years. I sat next to Neil in high school history class; he was a good guy then, and apparently still is.
What happened to Clutch is they're still around and are one of the best live bands in existence. If you like rock music it's impossible to not have a good time at their shows.
Been doing their 'live from the doom saloon' streams all the way through covid lockdown and were just fresh off a world tour prior to it.. so "whatever happened to" seems like a very strange title choice..

No one has, these stories are just out of touch
I’ve never even heard of them.
@@negativeindustrial nerd!
What happened to Clutch? They built a solid and loyal fan base by putting out one spectacular record after another and touring like road warriors. One of a handful of bands that haven’t released a bad album, ever.
We partied with them whenever they were in our area because they always had us on the list. Ate together after shows, just hung out and talked. They rock. Still one of my top 10 favorites.
Not sure what rock this was made under BUT Clutch is VERY much still rockin and rollin and more importantly preachin !!
Look clutch is awesome period no matter what they're musical perceptive has always been on time 😁
saw them first when i was 12 i’m 20 now and still see them every time they come by. every. time. IM AN EARTH ROCKER!
Went backstage and chilled with these guys when they toured the UK with Sepultura. No one in the UK had heard of Clutch, even Sepultura were pretty new on the scene. My friends met the Clutch guitarist (really sweet guy) the day before at a signing and they agreed to score for the band! They showed us how to make bongs with coke cans! We'd briefly said hi to Sepultura who seemed a bit pissed off because we weren't going mental enough as an audience. We got very wasted with them but didn't outstay our welcome, we felt lucky to have had the experience.
Clutch! Finally! Such a unique and creative band
Still the best band I've ever seen live, I remember my mate overheating and being sick at the front of the stage and Neil Fallon giving me a concerned look and passing me a bottle of water for him 😂
As you can see by my icon, I'm a fan, so it's no surprise that this video was suggested to me, or that I'm here commenting. First, the title of this video suggests that Clutch had some sort of career peak, then dropped out of existence. Nothing could be further from the truth. Clutch is a band with a unique career arc. They were never big enough to headline arenas, but they toured in support of arena rock acts, growing a loyal following based on their live shows. By the time they released their self titled album, they were popular enough to headline most clubs in the US. But unlike bands with radio hits, whose careers often peak, then their popularity fades, Clutch toured relentlessly, and their fan base grew and grew. Clutch is more popular now, 30 years into their career, than they've ever been. They tour around the world, selling out venues everywhere, and even headline their own festival, Earth Rocker. So what happened to Clutch, is that their music evolved, as the taste of their fans evolved, leaving very few fans behind. Now they're an incredibly successful independent band. Side note: the keyboard players name was Mick, not Mike, R.I.P.
Whatever Happened to Clutch: the sad tale of a band that maintained a successful, decades long career in the music business
They're still around. I see em at least once a year.
So in other words, nothing happened to Clutch and they’re still around. Nice history lesson though.
Clutch has been one of my favorite bands since 15 and continues to be one of my favorites to this day
I can describe Clutch with just two word lyric from their latest album: "No jive". They don't boast or talk shit they're just doing their music.
The root of the problem has been isolated.
The most underrated band 👍
Clutch hasn’t gone anywhere. You know this man
Still the best live band I've ever seen. They sound so good it's unreal
"...what happened to him?..what happened to ME?!?"
-Ace Ventura 🐬
Careful Sidd. You don't want to upset the Helmet crowd again. 😉😂😂🤘
Whatever dude. I'm going to see my favorite band CLUTCH for the fourth time this summer. They are all over the place, nonstop!!!
Got to see Clutch and The Sword! Both bands absolutely killed it.
This is truly a killer ass band! Loved them right off the bat! Just a tight band that gets better and better every year!
I think it's safe to say they didn't come through in the clutch. LOL!
Clutch was the one band I was shocked didn't get mentioned in the D.C. episode of "Sonic Highways". They're one of the top rock bands from the area I think of.
A great live band too. I've seen them twice, and both times was a fun concert.
I haven't seen any band as many times as I've seen Clutch.
I still catch them on the Doom Room!
