On the bands 1969 debut album "Beginnings" Ambrose Slade as they were then recorded a very creditable cover of Jeff Lynne's 1968 song "Knocking Nails In to My House". Lynne was in The Idle Race at the time and relatively unknown outside the West Midlands as a songwriter as he'd never written a hit record with The Idle Race, they were considered as a "Psychedelic Cult Band". I'm glad that Noddy and Co realised Lynne's writing ability by recording one of his songs, in the years that followed the whole world bought Lynne's ELO records.
