The main problem with album covers now is they are missing the title fonts. Other than streaming services, how am I supposed of know what the album is called if the title is not on the cover? That was exactly what I thought when I first saw The Big Day by Chance The Rapper on Twitter being compared to Ready To Die, Enter The Wu-Tang and Illmatic. At the time, I knew what the other three were called, but not this album with a hand holding a disc with diamonds in it. Maybe if they put a title on the cover, I would’ve instantly figured that out.
Drake is one of the few artists that approach the idea of an album cover as part of the listening experience. Most album covers today, especially in hip-hop, are generic, boring, and utterly forgettable. I'm not saying Drake's covers are the best, but clearly he puts more thought and effort into them than 95% of today's artists.
Very interesting way to look at it. While I don’t think this recent run of covers are his best there is a lot of strategy going into these choices no matter what we think of the quality of them

Drake wants you to make fun of him, he wants videos like this to talk about him, criticize him, clown him bc he ultimately just wants that momentary engagement. He doesn’t care that his music isn’t listened to 6 months or 6 years down the line, solely as long as at release people are talking and listening to him. There’s no artistic integrity to drake. He truly is just a popstar, a celebrity. I didn’t know that was his new album cover but by now I don’t care I expect his album covers to be garbage. I don’t think his approach will impact album covers considering his contemporaries like Travis Scott just put out an album with a lot of thought and care into just the album cover

It’s not that deep bro
the sad truth my ass
Future was the first to down play an album cover when he used a stock image for DS2 and then for WATTBA. Drake took that and ran with it. Future the trendsetter
Take a shot every time he used the word “Provocative”
people hate on the clb cover just to fit in, it’s not even bad it literally shows you that he’s a certified lover boy
...
If i made an Album Artwork, I'll make something beautiful!
Album: For All The Dogs 🐕
Album Cover: A Goat 🐐
In a weird way i like For all the dogs cover
Drake is amazing at creating the most disapointing album art possible
For All The Dogs cover is actually so hard ion know why y’all hating
Yeah I don’t buy this. It’s just trends shifting and visual language evolving with time.
Album covers just reflect the period they’re made in. They don’t have text anymore because the title is right besides them, they will also get a lot crazier since AI is on the come up and they need to differentiate themselves from that since that will get super lame.
Been saying this for years. Drakes album covers have Always sucked
Thank Me Later, Take Care, and NWTS have good covers, at least.
I’d argue Views as well.
So Far Gone to Dark Lane are good covers I even liked the Her Loss cover and new cover
The pregnant emoji cover was done by Damien Hirst, one of the most famous artists in the world, not my cup of tea but there's more context to the cover that you forgot to mention. Drake is trying to be on some fine art shit. This video was cool but basically a non issue.
Do kids even buy posters these days or just have screen savers and wall papers?
the FATD cover is not that bad but I hope somehow Drake change it for something better
