A huge thank you to the 'NPCs' and everyone who helped out making mods, builds and everything else for this series, Nev, gruzzob, Eisen, Frosty, Jexsam, Arstraea, TheFool76, Cyph and more :)
Capac:ism of the stream:
This is the most jauntingly angled discoteque that i have ever seen
FYI, it's "jauntily"
@@dakaodo No, sorry it is Jauntingly..
actually. Since both words are in the dictionary and both sort of applicable here. I would have to enter Capacs mind in order to find which one he intended.. And that is a place that i dare not enter... :S
"We are ballistic!" Aka "Witness ME!" From Fury Road. The new slogan for any of these series. 😊
The little small-grid bed might be a good way for Capac to log off each day, since you can easily move him around & take him with you.
Also, 2:49:10 absolutely needs to be added to the Capac soundboard. 🤣
100% I might even try to get him in one before next week :D
Splitsie riding the piston madness down was one of the best things I’ve seen in SE
That was quite a lot of fun :D
This is such a unique feat of engineering excellence, and I know I compared it to a toy from the early 80s, but if anything you're paying homage to it completely unintentionally. I thought the massive Truck from Survival Unlikely was one of the best vehicles created (Skywarp #1) but I am beyond excited to see this get armed and evolve. GG to the entire crew
Lol glad you're enjoying it, I must admit, i felt pretty excited to build it when the idea first came to me 😂
Wheels - 40/48
Capacness - 7/10
Switch 720 Kickflips - 0.16
Waggler 1/10
Dance Dance Roverlution High Score - 5212/5372
Trolling - Wheels/10
Now.. how to make dance controls for a 1D plane... :s
going to need to work on that waggler rating
Dance Dance Spiderlution!
My waggler only gets a 1/10! That's a travesty!
Also, does the engineer trigger sensors with emotes e.g. point left to go left? ;)
TFE Ore Detecting Skills: -5/10 :p
It's a boxer nub waggler....
Que the ~guilty feet have got no rythme~ music for a Splitsie without dancing emotes.
As he's never going to dance again.
I am always amazed how splitsie takes minutes to align the 2x3 solar grid on the 2 side, rather than the 3 side for center symmetry.
The panel isn't symmetrical though, it's got that bulbous but say one end 😜
Possible idea for next series. Make it a super huge world, almost ridiculous. Smooth out the terrain like in the Scrap Series. And the major limitations for movement would be vertical frictionless wheels and only thrust forward/ backwards. No flyers for your team. Turn the whole world into a giant Air Hockey table and your vehicles are the pucks. Just a thought to help brainstorm for ideas.
One word: Beyblades.
I could go for a mad max style air hockey series!!
Yoooooo, hovercraft world, water mod ontop of that could be fun too,
If I’m not mistaken wheels also add a fair bit of buoyancy to it
Doesn't sound like a good idea
@@Meredith-wd4yc and whats your idea then??? Easy to nay say lets see what you got that does not repeat anything that's already been done in a previous "Wrong Way" series.
Flipped most Rovers, that's why his nickname is Flipsie
There's a lot of unfortunate truth in that :D
@Splitsie atleast it isn't oopsie
Sometimes Splatsie
For steering you could use increase/decrease velocity instead of setting the velocity. That would allow you to steer while continuing driving, making for a smoother ride. It would probably also allow you to make adjustments to the course of the "vehicle" while going uphill. Resetting steering is as easy as pushing "forward" or "FAST" again (or STOP, for the faint of heart).
One possible (or in the case of TFE/Capac driving: probable) downside, is that if the button gets hit repeatedly, steering gets VERY agressive. That would cause funny situations though!
devastated i missed the stream, look forward to your content every week and have learned so much from you as i play SE myself
I woke up to TFE's rover making a break for it and it was the most surreal thing ever. I actually thought it was a dream until i went back and watched it again.
In this episode we observe the beginnings of another splitsie's rover's evolution towards a road train, in a trend much alike to carcinisation
Now thats a real cliffhanger 😂
I like the complete silence after "200 wheels" :D as if the rest was struggling to process that :P
Notice it’s useful when he flips the rover but if capac had done it he was trying to destroy it all
Of course! You can't #BlameCapac if he's actually being useful when someone messes up!
Damn it Wastedspace. You said the forbidden words. I desperately miss Vanguard. Watched it twice
Of course Capac has watched Lexx, the weirdest Canadian show from my childhood I probably should have be allowed to watch!
I build quite a few hinge suspension setups. as far as I've found, they are actually quite forgiving. They are mostly self-damping, at least in one direction. If you need additional damping, you can put two hinges side by side, with one hinge powered off providing braking torque acting like a shock absorber in both directions of travel. You do need to consider the length of your lever arm when you set the hinge limits. Since you are doubling up, you are allowing a LOT of travel as far as the rear axle compared to the front. You will also want a very fast hinge speed to keep the wheels on the ground. Tune the hinge force to slightly above where it will start to sag while stationary. I may post a quick and dirty example blueprint to the Discord if I get a chance.
I appreciate Capac's Lexx reference.
2:18:55 - TFE supermaning into a tree made me almost spit my coffee.
Thats quite the cliffhanger at the end there splitsie!
No no Splitsie makes a valid point, its in the ideal position to upgrade the wheels, I mean the last time I needed to change a wheel on my van I absolutely decided it was easier to do it with it ON ITS ROOF! 😂 🤦♂️
You totally should have, gravity works in your favour then 😂
@@Splitsie total in my favour I'm sure 😂 that is if I wanted the panel body of my van crushed perfectly flat under the weight of the engine and chassis 🤔😂 at least once I'd cut that all off with the angle grinder I'd be able to impress the ladies with the one of a kind convertible Ford transit 😎 I'll wait right now though until the 5 inches of snow leaves yorkshire before I try it out 🤣
you could put a small grid on the front/top with a remote control and custom turret with a camera and remote access it for zooming and looking around when you need to
Also “crazy room cockpit” is hilarious
Yeah a custom turret, or even just a searchlight on a stick would help with visibility, though we'd also need a seat in the cockpit and have to access it via a menu so it wouldn't ever be quick to access compared to the fun of expecting one of the others to be helpful :D
3:58:58 - Thanks for picking the wrong brb scene Splitsie... I just went down a Kitrano rabbit hole for 10 minutes, and downloaded their whole discography... so chill. Thank Klang for happy little accidents!
Capac soundboard bingo!!!!!
Also Splitsie suffering from success in this episode
While the 'waggler' is amusing (& occasionally effective), for your invisi-tree remover perhaps build a V on the front lined with grinders: think sort of an inverted cow-catcher from Western steam locomotives. If inverted in both Y & Z axes so the most open part is nearest the vehicle front, it may even help to keep you on the ground if a tree is caught in its 'jaws' (& will provide max ground clearance for uphill travel)
When you get around to adding suspension, I think rocker bogie suspension might be the best option for rotor-suspension to keep all your wheels on the ground. It might work best as an 8x8 though since I'm not sure you want the hassle of keeping the chassis level that standard 6x6 rocker bogie suspension has.
Yeah, rocker bogie was the sort of thing I had in my head as the ultimate solution, though I'd also like to try something with a bit of spring (assuming the script I used to use for that still works). Not because I think it'll be better, but just because I'm interested in trying it :)
@@Splitsie Perhaps some raised wheels at either end might help, too, so the whole wheel setup on one side looks like a tank track (without the treads ofc): \_____/
This would potentially help with making it up/down steeper slopes (particularly for small grid vehicles, tho the monster truck may benefit too)
2:00:20 Man, I haven't watched Lexx is decades. Nice nostalgia from Capac.
Watching splitsie build pistons for self-righting instead of just extending some beams out of the wheel hubs for leverage as the wheels rotate...
With how far the wheels are from the centre of mass that would require a very long lever arm to push the rover past vertical and I'm not sure it would have the torque or if it would simply smash the end of the lever arm as the rover twists around while trying to flip
The wrongco wheelie-ing suggests it probably would have had enough torque. Perhaps sticking some small 1x1 wheels at 100% friction on the end of the beams would protect them from contact forces and minimise twisting in combination with taking it slow.
Your way was pretty cinematic though!
Capac: All things follow the beam
Me: see the turtle of enormous girth on its shell it holds the earth
Love it, I can't wait to read the dark tower to my son when he's old enough 🙂
It's so weird watching you move around on Wasted's rover and seeing the wheels react.
@1:52 Capac "Its a bit early for drinking"
Splitsie "Jeez its just water, what do you take me for?"
Me "Ummm, Australian?" :D
🤔
~1:00:00 - They're still NPCs - Non-Party Characters.
~4:31:00 - Wasn't that bed that Capac was on in the middle of the episode basically a sled?
Maybe the next time the drill gets rebuilt you could move the drill assembly a block outboard and mount it on a horizontal hinge so you can slew it around.
wait.... FOUR HUNDRED power cells for a LG battery?!?!?!?
Yeah, it'll make sense when we get to flying stuff 😉
As a man living in Akron Ohio I approve of the Goodyear factory + the concept of weaponizing wheels in space engineers intrigues me I will be experimenting ........ also I'm sticking with Rollerstein for the big yellow menace. lastly splitsie..... you were correct, I like the swinging arm.
Lol I'm glad you liked it, it will get more enhancements going forward 🙂
The RBLF thinks the Splitsie is taking his being an upside down Australian too seriously when it comes to driving. Driving doesn’t work upside down Silly Splitsie! 😂😂😂😂😂
A slippery slope indeed, steep leaning/learning curve
Flipsie with the silver linings
@Capac... why did the dad joke cross the road? ... to get to the other sigh
XD
Shooting down to the enemy,
and buttsliding.
Owie. Owie. Owie.
And the rover is wronking.
Owie. Owie. Owie.
Ma pelvis. ;P
you probably know this already, so to everyone else:
with the full ladder block you can just grab - release on platform - grab next - release on platform - and so on, you know, instead of turning a ladder into a lift with a piston, you could even just walk out on the top, instead of finishing the climbing animation, that would require the block to stick out on top though, this would however eliminate the danger of the ladder hole
edit because i didnt know that putting the - would cross out words
edit2: also i thought you would put a rotor inbetween the trailer axel, so the backwheels can touch the ground on uneven terrain, or alternatively an upwards left right hinge, gooseneck style (i think, if that makes sense) , so it cant completely roll over in emergencies
edit3: although seeing how well it managed the mountain, perhaps thats not needed
edit4: also i had an awful idea, imagine adding more trailing wheel pairs until it looks like a centipede
edit5: so i wasnt the only one with that idea
edit6: maybe use the hinges to inchworm your way up the mountain, like a caterpillar
edit7: also i think that serpentining would be safer, allbe longer, than going head on the steep slope
1:03:48: Splitsie never finished welding that block 😞
For steering, you could have horizontal hinges forcing the entire rig to bend pointing the front rig in the direction you want to go. I'm unsure if it would work but talking about adding other sections means it may be too long for tank steer to be effective eventually.
It’s less a Giant Rover and more a Land Paddle Ship
Watching this whole endeavor, and all I can think is that it probably would have taken like 5 minutes with a hinge lol
For suspension you should to look into rocker-bogie suspension systems used on mars rovers. For six wheels you need just four(4!) passive* rotors. They are designed specifically for six individually driven wheels on rough terrain. And they tend to be more stable than spring based systems.
*To exactly model NASA's system with the differential in the middle you'd need to drive one rocker rotor to mirror the opposite passive one. If you get the center of mass of the chassis right all passive should work well enough for most terrain as well.
Yeah, I'd like to set up something that's useful but doesn't require a huge amount of time to build, so I'm hoping when we extend to 8 wheels of wheels I could do a double rocker bogey, perhaps with some twist allowed in each bogey.
It'll likely be a few weeks before we go for that sort of upgrade though (unless we can't make it to the top of the mountain next time)
@@Splitsie For eight wheels I'd suggest a bogie on each corner of the chassis with one roll rotor in the center of the chassis to allow front and back to twist against each other. I'm pretty sure the geometry works out to allow those five passive rotors to make it conform to any terrain.
You could even make two (or all four) bogies steerable to get some directional control at speed, resorting to tank steering only when tight turns are needed. The same could work for the current setup as well. Basically the equivalent of trim on a plane.
Treehouse Capacsity of one!
2/3 streams started fliping a rover, lets hope it becomes tradition
Just had a dream where Capac was singing REMs night swimming, completely random but needs to be a thing
He has sung on UA-cam a few times before...
It was in SE, he was knee deep in a lake, with one of those inflatable rings with an animal head around his waist@@Splitsie
Lol 🤣
Not sure if someone else has noticed that the invisible trees on that planet are only located in the pale green/yellowish/brownish areas of grass, the solid green areas are totally devoid of phantom trees, I noticed that since the first episode.
The trees are less dense in the green so I'm not sure if it's just a density thing increasing the risk
@Splitsie indeed, just as I posted that message I noticed the crew run into a tree in the greener area, but it's definitely more common in the yellowish grassy areas!
TFE's rover now has a seismic beak. ^^
For the next Wrong Way series: Don't use cheat vision challange! :D And mixed with Scrapyard, so you start with a small grid crane and have to scavange to build a large grid rover.
Are you meaning build vision or 3rd person?
@@Splitsie I meant build vision, 3rd Person and spectator are kinda mandatory for the viewer action. I know that build vision is a very nice quality of life tool. But, in my personal opinion, I think it's a bit illogical to get access to something without an access point. I know, I know... gaming and logic don't always necessarily mix. Space Engineers actually offers all the options to do it without build vision. And just as a general question to another topic, why don't you ever build real airlocks, i.e. with a timer and vent that draws the oxygen from the airlock and only then opens the door to the open space and the other way around, press the button that closes the outer door and the lock is flooded with oxygen and then the inner door to the airtight room opens?
Need to hang a small grid plumb bob on the rover and read out the hinge angles to an lcd on the bridge.
i love how silly th ddrover is
Next up on the to-do list: screens for control output and power consumption
I may have an alternative I'm trying to work up a design for: levers, since they act as both control output AND control :)
Btw. I don't know if that is against your self imposed rules or not, but you can actually increase the range of the build vision, allowing you to adjust pistons and such from much further away.
If you open the text box and then press F2 I believe you get into the menu of everything that used "Rich HUD API" like Build vision and adjust some settings, and for Build Vision there is a setting for the range of it.
Oh! I had no idea it had a way to increase the range. I might well do that as it's annoying not being able to reach a piston from the ground when its fully extended. I don't think I want to reach further than that, but I feel like an extra 1-2m would make a lot of things more convenient. Thanks for pointing that out :)
Love you content split keep it up!❤
Add a rotor between the rear hinges so that the rear can roll with terrain.
I'm starting to think spider/centipede like legs would be a good idea with all the climbing and rough terrain
15:45 Nice! That DDR setup works better than I thought it would!
2:17 Two Bubba Fetts trying to get Han Capac into the ship! 😂
-Did you name it the Wronco?!
W4sted did an epic job with the DDR setup, it works so well!
Bucking Wrongco I think I went with, though maybe I should drop the g :P
@Splitsie 😃👍
I would have thought after being hijacked in previous Wrong Way shenanigans, y'all would have figured out to not leave the main rover unattended 😅
The main vehicle has never been hijacked though...
@@Splitsie "The main vehicle has never been hijacked though..." ... yet!
Capac sounded like Mr bean when he said stupid practical jokester.
Here is an idea for getting out - walk to 0g
build ramp (that is not attached to voxels) long enough that you can leave gravity well :P
... will see myself out :P
From my prior testing of very large grids in SE, that's impossible. At a certain length the grid will no longer have any physics so you'll just fall right through :P
I wonder why compressible pistons still aren't a thing. I'm sure they'd be a highly desired feature.
Medical bed could be used to make a capacaput
Might be worth armouring around the wheel rotors (not to give the opposing force too many ideas).
I need to apologize splitsie, a couple years ago we were talking and i was certain you had a medical background and i guessed a paramedic.
I do have a medical background, and I see no reason anyone guessing what I did should apologise :D
@@Splitsie ya, I saw an article. Good on you.
Also, You need Honk-honk sound each time You move/change move order and some other klaxon for stop :)
Those wheels have a fair few bits in them.
Yeah, they're proper chunky, but thankfully they are pretty unlikely to get broken so we shouldn't need to make those parts again in a hurry :D
@Splitsie I was meaning the ones rolling down the hill. Lol.
Ever since the scrapyard series, I'm always thinking about what I could get out of scrap. Lots of plate and large tubes. Ya'll were short on iron.
Anyone else think they should put a rotor in the center of the main rover so it can articulate and keep the wheels down in the bigger crags?
I'm leaning more towards independent suspension for each wheel to try to keep them in contact that way
You called this episode "Reinventing the Wheel" but I think de-inventing is a better description.
lol :D
The flipping back over always seems to be made so overcomplicated.
Yeah, though some of that is due to avoiding some of the cheesier mechanics (like using unwelded blocks as a counterweight) :P
@@Splitsie I just use a hinge then rotor then piston with mag plate.. Two hinges to make it permanent and foldable..
Half way through the video and I'm wondering if you've reset the offset you put on the rear wheel rotor when you tried to add a wheel to a suspension
And you're probably gonna have to add a bumper to the front 😂 to stop from climbing the trees
I suspect all those rotors might need some tweaking to optimise them, but even if they're different I don't think it'll matter too much :)
Are we counting each rotation as a flip, or does each flip have to be a separate event? (because there were three or four flips there towards the beginning of the big rover's career.)
lol I'm not sure :P
New test... no pistons no rotors and no hinges. Can splits survive!!!!!
But those are the fun bits in SE :P
@@Splitsie true...but isn't that what makes it a challenge. WALKER CHALLENGE!!!
1:39:30 name: walking through trees wavering - Ent.
what if you were to make a rotor based gyro stabilised command bridge.. which as the big rover moves if it flips the bridge can re-orientate to flip other side up that way you'll always be right side up....
I wonder if just putting unpowered wheels on the big thing and having two or more small buggies acting as 'horses' pulling the thing would have worked.
Could you put a cargo access panel over the top of the ladder and still use the ladder???
Imagin Slitsie would have stuck 8 grinders with all eight of the wheels^^...hmm would that be possiblke with the 45° offset so that maybe the grind hitbox is in the small divit between the wheel spheres so that it's not grinding the whells but still not touching the ground.... OR screw it all no damag eon subgrids so the wheels get replaced by grinders^^ Sawblades give grip right? Also you love cranes so why not give the big one a crane that helps you detatch and reatach the wheel assembly.
Mmm I've believe slitsie is horror game Channel name.lol
Subgrids may not take damage from each other, but they'll definitely take damage from the ground :P
I would like to build a crane at some point regardless, as it'll be useful for a variety of things I suspect, not least of which is occasionally picking up a damaged small rover :D
Grimlock from Robosen is better that Optimas prime
Splitsie instead of offsetting the wheel could you add four squares and triangles around you wheel hub then just have 8 offroad wheels?
Unfortunately since we can't attach anything to the diagonal surface you'd need hinges or rotors to offset the extra wheels, so I think the way I did things used the fewest number of subgrids :/
Shouldn't you (or W4sted) make the trailer connecting boom have a rotor in it to allow for a twisting degree of freedom? (no torque, suggesting to replace the cilindrical block) This allows the rear trailer wheels to maintain voxel touching when either side is lifted by a bump lifting the other side too.
stacked production: Does cargo access, production tab, pick the desired block, ctrl/shift/both click work for you?
You can only do that with a full assembler, and I was trying to do the build planner method
@@Splitsie oh no you are right, I have skipped past the basic assembler so much I've forgot.
Oof. you forgot to record?!
Yeah, I normally record to have the separate audio tracks for the trailer, so I'll still be able to make something it just takes a bit more work :(
I took offense to the New York comment... That is most definitely Detroit! Lolz!
Would you mind finishing the cab?
Please post spin miner to make ramps lol I been looking for this since I fris seeen it also long ago 😂
I hope none of you are engineers in IRL, Scary!
