Picked up my elegance model this week. Much sooner than expected, was quoted September initially 😮 first impressions very good. Very comfortable ride, spacious and feels quite luxurious inside. No complaints from me so far.
I must say, it totally amazes me that so many car reviewers ignore the cruise control placements, yet talk about the climate controls, trunk space, interior lighting, seat heating and massage, storage bins, colors and stitching, screens for the passengers in the back, sun roofs, side mirrors ... but nothing about where to find the buttons for the convenience of being able to effortlessly maintain a steady speed on freeways and suburban streets, and even to follow the car in front's speed. Kind of like reviewing a convertible but omitting how you put the top down or up.
I briefly talk about the steering wheel and the fact it has buttons now but I could include the cruise control too if that’s feedback for future videos. Like some videos before I’d like to make a dedicated video on how it works (switching it on, adjusting, resuming & cancelling etc)
@@npoleary ---- Porsche put up a video about their popsicle CC. If you can figure out how it works, maybe they'll give you a car for free! Even Toyota, known for not changing anything, finally moved their 1974 vintage CC from a stick onto the wheel. Mustang, Corvette, Genesis, and others have CC on the wheel, and so does - notably - Mercedes. For something like a 600+HP "take it to the track" car like Aventador or some GT 9,000,000 RS T SS+ Limited Edition Manual Rocket, I could understand if they had no cruise control at all. But for a "take kids to school", or "take dogs to the vet" SUV it seems very natural to put the CC under the driver's thumb. And VW did.
The plug-in hybrid sounds particularly interesting to me and it’s one I’ll certainly add to the list when it’s available. As well as the claimed range, which is impressive is the fact that apparently it comes with DC fast charging, something that not many hybrids have. Why this is significant is because the 20 min charge time to 80% makes it a viable option for someone like me who lives in an apartment. For example, It would be possible to charge it up during a trip to the supermarket - I wish more car manufactures would offer fast charging on their hybrids.
Good to see VW getting back to decent interiors and controls. I am hoping the new Golf 8.5 will be very similar. Hope to see you testing the Golf soon Nick. Good informative review here Nick, thank you
Great review, never considered this as an option before. Would be amazing to learn more about the plug in version as this will be a game changer for company car drivers as it has over 70 miles in range.
I had one of these in 2018, was a good car but really was dull. Exterior and Interior looks better but not keen on those screen graphics. The dash screen looks particularly bland. Still much to learn from other brands. Cheers Nick
Both are lovely!! I’m just glad everyone else is upping their game with the tech side 🤣 I currently have a Mercedes CLA and I love the big screen and ambient lighting, but VW have come out to play with this new Tiguan 👏🏼
An SUV should be able to go off road, that’s the whole idea of them. I’d like to see you trying them out in that situation. In particular, how do they do in mud, and wading.
Absolutely, it’s a shame that a lot of people buy them for use round town. But…they are very useable and practical. Sadly Volkswagen didn’t have that set up this time but I did take the Touareg off road! ua-cam.com/video/v24SAA3tegs/v-deo.html
Hey Nick another great review as always. Thank you. I’ve had two generations of Tiguan the most recent one and the one before. I am really considering this new one as it looks great and a real upgrade and also the previous two have been great. It’s a shame they don’t have it in full electric as I am kinda looking to switch to full electric really. With the plug in hybrid can you actually just choose to run on electric or the engine does it for u? Say is there like a setting or something that u just press a button.
Thank you! 🙏 Glad you enjoyed it! Well a full electric model the closest would be the iD4 (or iD5 for a coupe style roofline). But yes with a plug-in hybrid normally you can control the modes (if you wanted to.) Hopefully I can make a video on Volkswagen’s one later this year! 🤓
@@npolearyThank you very much for your answer.🙏 It seems that also the standard suspension is smooth enough since you found it comfy over the bumpy roads. Thanks again.
Just test drove the new Mini Countryman and its fabulous, but im between that and this new Tiguan. The VW has the impressive boot space whereas the Mini I can't decide if its quote sufficient for a family with a young child plus a baby.
Sadly not driven the countryman but I’d love to include it on my channel! How did you get on with it? It does have a smaller boot compared to the Tiguan. 450L (I believe) vs the 652L in the video.
I’m sure on VW models I’ve seen heated rear seats next to the climate control adjustment in the rear. So in the middle where the vents are, there was a button for each seat with 3 heat levels 🤓
Hi Nick, brilliant review once again. I would love your opinion on the Tiguan versus the GLC. I currently have a hybrid GLC but to upgrade to a new model is so expensive now Mercedes have put their prices up. Do you think the Tiguan is a compelling alternative or is it not quite as luxurious as the Mercedes?
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! This is exactly one of the main reasons why I’ve started to cover other brands. There will be plenty of people (myself included) that due to the higher costs or removal of Mercedes models like the A-Class, it might mean that I can’t change to another at the end of my finance agreement. And as I don’t work for any car manufacturer, all my videos will be honest, my thoughts only and I’ll aim to cover what people want from their next car although I try and sneak a bit of tech in there from time to time 👀 Yeah defo, take one out for a drive yourself! Hi Nick, I currently have a GLE and was going to downsize a little to the GLC, but that Tiguan looks very impressive. So the question is GLC or Tiguan?🤔
From a pricing point of view I’d have to go Tiguan. Mercedes GLC is very nice and have covered it several times on my channel. The new one is stunning with the vertical screen etc and super luxurious. But with the way Road Fund Licence works in the UK, and pricing of both models I’d be swaying more to the Tiguan for sure. 👍🏼 Take one for a spin and you won’t be disappointed! I should add I don’t work for a car manufacturer, everything I discuss in comments and the videos made themselves are my honest thoughts, it’s really a good car! And as I mentioned in the video, similar price to my daily car which is so good! 👍🏼
Hi Nick, Please help me choose between New Tiguan 1.5 TSI hybrid with full options or Tesla Model Y Long Range? I’m not sure what to choose and I like both cars. You know and tested both cars and I really need your opinion 😀 Thank you! Awesome job!
Hey thank you! 🙏 Well both are pretty awesome cars but it depends on what you need. The main question forgetting brands for a second, do you want to switch to electric? Can you charge at home to make use of cheaper electricity? Have you got off road parking? Or do you have Solar? You don’t have to have those things but they make the switch to EV ownership that much easier but it does depend on your driving too! How many journeys are within the car’s range etc
Hi Nick! What about suspension over the bumps, what would you tell about it? Is it soft or rather sport? BTW, do you think the boot would be suitable for 2+2 family?
Suspension over the bumps was very smooth! I was very surprised at how smooth it was (the roads weren’t great) Yeah absolutely, loads of space! It could fit me x4 Of course depends on how much space everyone needs (children’s ages like if they pushchairs or anything) but take one for a spin for sure!
So watching from the USA. I have been thinking about a Tiguan but i prefer the look of the old model. New one is not out here yet until the end of the year. I do like the space in it and the infotainment looks better than the current version. Engine options will probably be a lot different over here. The only engine option currently is the 2.0 TSI. There will be no diesel version, not sure if the PHEV will be available or not but i may be interested in that.
Tiguan. Because you can get a Plug-in Hybrid in it 🤓 GLB is nice but I personally do prefer a little curvature in a car’s bodywork. But I completely get it why the Mercedes GLB exists, it’s great for practicality too and even a 7 seater!
It’s WLTP so it can be! You can even beat it! I’ve beaten hybrid ranges before in other cars. But…it depends where you drive, how you drive, the use of heating and the weather outside. The quoted range is what you’ll get in the best and optional conditions
I see they put the cruise controls on the steering wheel where they belong. Maybe Porsche will follow? I rejected all Porsches offhand because they put their cruise controls on a stick on the steering column, where you have to hunt for them and take your hands off the wheel. Subordinating CC to "phone" and "volume" and such is just ridiculous. On a big couch in front of your "home entertainment system", yeah .... giving the couch cruise controls priority on the remote "is not logical, Captain". But in a car,, giving "mute" or whatever priority over motion controls? Questionable. I wonder how much the responsible for that gets paid.
