In this song , Philippines was compared to a beautiful young lady where the foreign men (Spanish, Americans, Japanese Colonizers) captured her and somehow raped her. But still Philippines stood up and showed bravery and finally be free, the freedom longed for forever.
This is the main reason why so many demonstrations actually use this song as an official protest anthem because of its relevance to their cause.

No it's not about a foreigner raping a Filipino woman. it's about the disdain of foreigners (Spaniards, Americans, and Japanese) colonizing a beautiful country (Philippines). In the song the country is compared to a bird where even it wants to be freed when captured, let alone a beautiful country.
@@gnhoj69 i think both of ur concept combined together is the right one. The first part of the song is clearly describing it as a person "at sa kaniyang yumi at ganda" and the 2nd part of the song stated that "ibon man may layang lumipad" the 2nd part compared it to a bird. So yah

In reality the original version of it is written in Spanish and it is originally anti American. However, it is saddened that even our government still been a US lapdog always so follow that's why progressing our own is impossible even defending against China can't do that also depending on the MDT.

I always love this song. the patriotic in me always makes me teary-eyed or really cry. but hearing it being sung by foreigners, and of all the people, the Koreans who have difficulty in speaking Filipino, were able to sing it fluently and from the heart. so wow... bravo to your choir group. even the conductress was full of passion for conducting our song.
