We have a kangal in our village that we got when he was 3 months old or so. He never got any serious training but also never dissapointed us. My uncle lives there and he doesn't have much expectations of him. It's almost like 2 friends living together. He's roaming freely whenever he wants, day or night. So no energy related problems. He has a kennel outside. Never comes inside. Never giving trouble to any kids, stranger or not. He is only being grumpy with people acting shady and he shows his teeths when strangers act agrresive. He is about 5 years old now. I haven't seen him for 2 years and when I came he sniffed a bit and immediately turned into a goofball. Never jumps on people, he usually touches people's hand with his giant head or sit very close to them when he wants to be pet. When people make it clear they are excited to see him that's when he becomes a puppy and acts stupid. He is very calm and always watching. But I can't think of him living in a city or inside. Either he or the owner would go crazy.
sounds like Kyle. They have a beautiful character. It depends on how and where the dog was raised. Kyle would not trade the couch for anything. He even pushes people off the couch. All he needs is a cigar and bourbon.
On our first Kangal (Aslan) he's now 16 months 32" 125lbs. Everything you've said is correct in my experience. I would add ours was a little devil for the first few months, just like an ornery boy toddler. Don't let them get bored or they'll have you chasing them round and around to get back your slippers, shoes hats coats etc ... . One surprise has been how overly protective he's been with our infant granddaughter, the wife and youngest daughter have to move slowly when the babies here as he'll jump and growl if he senses any danger or irregularities. He doesn't bite or snap but gives that characteristic Kangal roar, that we'd read about but had never experienced. He tries to always be close to where she's at and just loves to lick her and to lays next to her crib whenever she's in it. He can't get enough of either the other dogs or kids in the neighborhood and pays little attention to dog's that bark or growl at him. However, once at the feed store he went off towards a Great Dane that had snarled and lunged towards us. The manager said it was obvious to her Aslan was trying to protect me, so I experienced how very quickly and with what intensity they can and will confront a threat. I think the world of the boy but he's not for the faint of heart, timid nor first time dog owner. He loves to dig and boy can he dig, patrol the yard and watch over things. Which include horses, chickens and cats.
Agree with everything you described. Not sure I would allow him to growl at family members but every dog is different. Their sense of assessing situations is 2nd to none. The never over react and always react exactly and proportionally to each situation. Their program is never to attack or even harm unless it's the last resort. Their "prime directive" is either to ignore non threats or suppress not injur threats if possible. In 60 years I've never seem behavior like this.
I have a big male anatolian shepard 150 lbs , and he needs reminded who the boss is every once in awhile , but hes super smart and very protective of little kids even if he just met them , they do need lots of room to exercise , and he dont like being alone for long periods of time , he goes with me everywere i go , hes a good dog , just need to be firm but ever hit or kick them , there feelings get hurt real easy
Most definitely agree I have a 10 month old Anatolian shepherd. Love this breeds I have owend mastiffs bull mastiffs huskies rottweilers Bouviers I love this breed.
Found my Bella at the local animal shelter, given up by people who got WAY more dog than they were ready for. I set boundaries for her, and she's a friendly girl. She knocks the neighbor's dogs over and sits on them now and then...
Almost identical to the Anatolian Shepherd. Both are dogs with an almost human soul and immense cognitive power. Having one can be like owning a Ferrari. So if you’ve only ridden bikes, use caution when getting behind this wheel. Thanks for the video.
Thank you for your kind words. Truth be told there is no such dog as an anatolian shepherd in Turkey. That is a name the American kennel club has given to any dog that resembles a kangal.
Another YT video was about farmers in Germany who also said it's very difficult for them even to get these dogs. They mentioned it's prohibited in Turkey to export them as they are needed there. Now in Germany with so many wolfs, the farmers suffer greatly and some have now turned to getting dogs. Surely, most people who get these dogs have a great need for them to protect against the wolf.
I am really grateful to you for this video because I am thinking of having a kangal pup. This is what exactly I was looking in terms of dog's behaviour towards his owner-loving , affectionate protective towards family members and children! Its a perfect dog for me.
You are spot on, I have had mine for three years, and I agree completely with your observations. Thank you for spreading information, great dogs, but not for everyone, or everywhere.
Thinking of getting a Kangal and this was pretty helpful! I’ve owned 3 Rhodesian Ridgebacks but I’ve loved these dogs since first seeing one in a film over a decade ago! They seem like a great fit for my lifestyle!
I have a Kangal, Great Pyrenees, Australian Shepard mix. I got told the other day that I should be charged with child endangerment for having him in my home. He is the most patient, well tempered and gentle dog I have ever met. My kids have treated him like a jungle gym and a horse his entire life and he has never even growled at them. He is absolutely amazing with ALL children. He doesnt chase my cats, he doesn't care if im right up in his face while he is eating. He is an amazing dog! Another thinng, my goats bully him and head but him all day and he just accepts it. Doesn't growl or try to bite them. The only agression ive ever seen him show is when my sisters male intact dog came to our house and tried to steal his food... he does show a bit of food aggression with intact dogs but that is it. Our female cavapoo can steal from his bowl while he is eating and he doesn't care. My favorite thing ever is watching him patrol our property at night. As soon as you hear a coyote that dog is on it as quick as lightening! He takes his guarding job very seriously and he does it well. Never killed any of our livestock or chased them, even as a pup
The best video about any breed Ive seen. I like it this video partly because of the super nice info however the main thing its a very down to earth video. Most people make a theatrical production and make the video about themselves more than the puppies or nay animal.
as Turkish person i like your kangal. and what u said about Kangal its true. Kangal is different dog they lovely and strong dogs. u cant push them for anything
One of the sweetest and to the point video about Kangal finally. Channel has been subscribed! Haven’t check any other video of you yet but for sure will very soon. I have a 16 weeks Kangal and same aged Rottwieler and They are amazing. Specially Kangal. We call him our lion because thats what they are. Correct me if I am wrong. Thanks for the video again Cheers 🇨🇦
@@kangalwhisperermike7126I have a kangal is 1 years old I love him to death but 2 thing I have hard time with is chewing my stuff in my house when I live annything I find and he protect is thing and get mad and he nip me
i agree with you kangal is a zone dog not a apartmant dog. it should be free . It is often used as a guard dog in Turkey. Protects sheep and goats in turkey . Kangal dog wanders around the villages in Turkey . In the evening, this is a little strange but when he hears the evening prayer (like 6 pm), he returns home. i have 8 years kangal dog i got it when i was a baby . He is very energetic when he is young. That's why we kept the gate of the garden open. He was wandering around, finally coming home. In the evenings, he was a complete hunter. There are a lot of jackals in our village. Each night it takes a scent from the forest and sprints into the forest. An eagle snatched our chicken once. We did not understand, but he understood the sound of the chicken and saved the chicken. In short, the kangal dog is a garden dog. Must be in nature and protect something. It is not an apartment dog. If you are going to keep it in the apartment, please do not adopt this dog.
I would also like to add that if you live in a warm place, Kangal will feel bad again. Kangal dog loves cold places and even loves snow and don't worry about it's getting cold like me :D My kangal usually sleeps on the snow
Very smart!!! I was a K9 trainer and they train totally different than any other dog. But they learn faster. But they definitely are their own boss and do not care if you soak them with a water bottle they still do what they want. However, one IS definitely treat motivated. I am with them 100 percent of the time. They go wherever I go. Extremely loyal and recall is awesome! Clowns? Yikes comical ALL the time! Guard dogs? Their in my neighbors fenced in yard with him all the time but if he steps one foot into my yard they only earn him once!
great description of a kangal. yes we tried water and nothing works. Sneaky too! If they want to steal a shoe they walk around until you are not looking grab it wag their tale and the chase is on lol
very sneaky... if we leave something on the table Kyle will circle around it like a U boat until we are not looking and take it. I also noticed they can retract their nails and go into stealth walking mode.
Well said, my Kangal (14 months) is the quickest learner(1 attempt most times). He seems to understand anything even in different languages(amazingly)! However, he'll (1out of 2 times😅) come immediately when called! But he'll never forget any command and will complete it maybe a minute later. Excellent and loving dog!
Same applies to father in law - he has a giant Garden outside the city where he keeps 2 Kangals to Guard his little flock of sheeps & chicken - if any person other than him would step into that garden they would instantly get mauled - as soon as those Kangals step 1meter outside the garden they're the most friendliest & loving dogs one can imagine not caring at all about anyone just giving cuddles & down to play , close the gate and watch them instantly change behavior
Thank you for sharing! It’s so nice to see a genuine and caring owner giving realistic and wholesome advice about Kangals unlike the idiot breeders in Turkey using Kangals as bait against each other to show how dangerous the breed is. Makes my stomach churn! Keep the videos coming. I’ve subscribed! 👍
Thank you for your comments. I would never encourage what they do on some of the vids but I did learn that it is part of their culture to face off grown Kangals while on a leash. It is not comfortable for us to watch but most of the time its for show and to see how the dogs react. Think of it as one of those pre boxing fight interviews .
Most probably they are introducing two dominant Kangals to prove their bravery. You need to be very careful when choosing from what stock your working Kangal shepherd dog is from. It is a dangerous job, specially where we farm in central Turkey....where they have been bred for thousands of years. I dont think they are trying to show if they are dangerous or not!!! We know how they are. They are the loveliest and kindest dogs ever. They just need to be brave and dangerous when they are working to protect. Other than that they should be your and your villages BEST FRIEND.
Kangals are working dogs and belong on farms with livestock to be truly content IMO. They will adapt to any environment but to see their true nature they need to be on acreage with livestock.
For us to see them in nature they need to be on a farm guarding livestock. In a perfect world I would agree. It's the same for human beings. We do not belong in a city living on top of each other like rats. However just like other canines they adapt well to domestic life and are very happy as family members relaxing on deck chairs swimming in pools and going for long walks in the countryside. I appreciate your comments.
First, I am sure your dog has adapted and is happy and it obvious how much you care so I didn't mean any disrespect. I have had Turkish LGD's for years (Kangals,Anatolians and Akbash ) and have seen the noticeable difference in them when they have a job (around livestock) and when they do not.As I sure you know this breed has been used for guarding livestock for literally thousands for years and it still is very much part of them. The Kangal ,Anatolian and Akbash breeders in the US try and make sure they place their dogs with people with acreage and livestock but of course some fall through the cracks and end up in cities and it just seems unnatural to see for such a incredible primitive breed. Cheers though, beautiful Dog.
oh I agree with you 100% and if you saw my videos I discourage people from owning kangals in the city. I know their first choice is to be out in the open but they seem very happy with the right amount of exercise and attention. ty for your comments
@@kangalwhisperermike7126 Yes , they do indeed. At the moment I have an Anatolian and an Akbash that look after my small herd of milk goats.I live in Greater Yellowstone Eco System in Idaho so I take them all up in the mountains hiking / camping and with plenty of apex predators around so they are serious at times but spend plenty of time playing with each other. Cheers-
I have a neighbour around the corner who has 2 kangal’s boy and girl both 18 month and they are fkin massive. Amazing dogs would love to own one at some point in the future when got the time.
Sir I am myself is a owner of two rottweiler and one kangal and one alabai also but the thing you mention is hundred percent true kangals are really aggressive if you don't know how to handle them you shouldn't buy them but my one is so good ❤
@@kangalwhisperermike7126 90 / 10 with my Kangal 😉 100/100 with love. But she would never show that..... This kind of dog is absolutely not for the average dog owner. If you can cope with a dog that does not give a sh..... on you, when comming home, and wants lots of respekt, personal freedom and making their own desicions, then there is nothing better than a kangal. If you like to see mine there are a few vids on my chanel. Thanks for your vids. Brilliant.
Hello very good information you know them very good in this short time of the kangals 😳👌👍🙂 and yes they are very cool dogg and never fight or spent energy to another dogss only if it needs and you can trust him with your child is the only dog without psycholoog or some black out moments 💪 and you are olso respectful for the sellers that they don’t want to sell it because it is a not a house dog 🫣🥹greeting from 🇹🇷
Being "gentle with baby's" doesn't surprise me... I've seen them with a flock of sheep, they are very gentle and nurturing with the newborns. Protecting and nurturing weak animals or in this case a weak helpless baby is part of the breeds characteristics. I'm also not surprised that they don't instigate confrontations with other dogs. They are true pack animals that have close bonds with the other guardian dogs in their pack. The only time I've ever seen a Kangal be aggressive was when they are chasing a Coyote.
Thank you so much for all those details of Kangal's description. I have one, now he is 4, and I can totally confirm what you say. I had other dogs before him, yet it took a lot of relearning in me to know how to deal with my Jamir. I also made some mistakes only trying to safe him from getting into trouble ( I live on the country side in the Yukon and there is any kind of wildlife around) or when underestimating his need for an independent pace in checking on things and learning.
I was cleaning out the gutter yesterday and my neighbors kangal chipped at me to let me know he was outside too. I went over and said hi to him. He used to grab a rock and play the get it out of my mouth game. They are big clowns.
What a beautiful dog! I always wanted a Kangal. However, I have limited dog experience. I walked a poodle twice lol! Unfortunately, all my research said they are not first time owners. I now have an Akita...and am working closely with a trainer. I seriously doubt I will ever be ready for a Kangal. Please share more videos!
Why do you say that? If you want a Kangal and you have the right place and enough time why not? It's good that you started with an Akita but you can always get a Kangal especially a female as they are more obedient than a male. They are wonderful dogs. Feel free to ask any questions.
@@kangalwhisperermike7126 I have a house on 2 acres of land, so space really isn't a problem. It's just that Ares, my Akita, is extremely independent and stubborn. My trainer said that he is dominant dog. Don't get me wrong, I love him! My orginal plan was to get a Kangal when he is 4 years old. But, I don't think bringing another independent dog into the mix is wise. How are Kangals around other dogs in the home? Would training be easier for the Kangal with an already well trained dog in the home?
Kangals are also very independent and stubborn so just like the Akita you have to be stronger willed than them. Kangals are great with other dogs. Adopting a 4 year old would give you the advantage of know it's character and personality. Getting a neutered female would be my advice. hope that helps.
@@kangalwhisperermike7126 It does! Thank you! It sounds like a Kangal and an Akita have similar temperaments. Ares will listen, I just have to give immediate corrections when he doesn't....and be very, very patient. Are Kangals the same way during training?
basically yes. Mine never got formal obedience training. They don't do well with obedience traing like normal dogs. I made sure they don't pull when I walk them. I let them have their time and never force them to walk or change direction instead I "negotiate" with them BUT when push comes to shove when they try to establish their authority or their stubbornness then I make sure they know without any doubt who is the alpha of the pack. I only had to do this once or twice and after that they always submit without much of a fight. Females are easier and more wanting to do what the owner wants. Males are just goofy lol
Thanks for the info! Considering getting a pup from a working line.. I'm thinking It's a good fit, but would love opinions! I have .25acre fenced, 16 acre property, and ducks coming... It's the "most relaxed" male of the litter from a reputable local breeder in a small town. But, I will be a first time dog owner.. looked after many dogs, dogsitting and such... but never raised a pup! As a very responsible person, I feel up to the challenge... but you dont know what you dont know!
@@MikePortelliMyMusic Thanks. Yeah I've been watching a few, thanks for the info. The "How to chose a Kangal breeder." has been the most informative. It certainly would be a challenge as a first dog. There is also an option nearby for first pick in a litter of kangal(same great linage)/bernese cross, so potential for female, and probably an easier dog.
8:23 Extreme? Breeders are probably very concerned that Kangals be in the right environment, for their sake and the breed. It's what they're meant to do, shepherding/protecting. They're not meant to be pets but a pet that's not a pet is exactly what I want, not some obedient animal unless I have some use for that. There are some Kangal/Anatolians on the SPCA's website that seem like they'd be nice to have, especially BECAUSE they'd likely be unsuitable for farmers/ranchers who need to raise them from pups so they don't hurt the livestock by playing with them. I don't even think I'd approach a breeder because there are similar dogs to adopt that desperately need homes.
I buy 1 kilo packs of raw food which consists of meat crushed bones and organs and i mix it with chopped bread of pasta so they get protien and carbs. I have videos on my channel that you are looking for.
I have a CAO dog very similar to a Kangal. I'm living in a village in norther Bavaria. When walking the dog, I do try to avoid most dogs because of my dog's high aggression towards them. I can't let anybody in the house that my dog doesn't know. So when I have to let some unknown person into the home, I have to lock-up or tie-up my dog plus using a muzzle. My dog is almost 8yrs old, 74 cm tall at the wither and weighs 51 kg.
Have you tried taking him to a dog trainer with other dogs and walked him with the pack? I have seen very agressive dogs change and become very sociable with other dogs after 3 or 4 walks
Cao and Kangal are different. Your dog has a problem if you cant let people in your house. You need pro help or more youtube and learn then do it yourself. I have never seen high aggression on a Kangal unless provoked.
Hi there, just came a cross your video about your Kangal dog.. we just retired ,always had small dogs (jack russell) and dreamed of owing a large dog when we retired . Been looking at several types . Do you think this is a dog we can handle? Have a garden , no city area and i have always been the leading one with the jacks ..thank you for sharing👍👍🐕🐕
Hey Mike, thanks for sharing your experience. I have a similar situation that you mentioned which questions me for a while if i have a right house to have a kangal. I live in a suburban house in New York metro area. I have a back yard with garage and inground pool. I don’t have much running space for a kangal. I can take him for a 30 minutes walk every day besides having the backyard access for him all the time. Our backyard is completely fenced. In your experience, is this manageable? Do you have any regrets on not being able to give him a ranch/farm/big yard? Thanks
Hi Ozan ty for your comment. From what you described it sounds like the bare minimum environment for a kangal. The backyard helps but keep in mind they can clear a 6ft fence like it's not even there if they decide to. The main concern is that they need to be outside off leash at least 3 times a week. This is not written in stone and there are no set rules but I see it in my dogs. They really live for those time when they see us grab the leashes and the car keys knowing they are going to have a nice free run. I don't have any regrets having them as house pets in fact they make great house pets as long as they have the space inside, I decent sized backyard and some free roaming time every few days. I hope this helps you in your decision. You should review some of my previous vids. Feel free to ask any questions. God bless.
@@kangalwhisperermike7126 Thanks Mike! Really helpful. Good to know about 6’ fence situation:) Funny enough, i am Turkish American and will start contacting some selective breeeders in Turkey, arrange my flight and pickup hopefully soon. I got no chance locating any breeders around NYC. Please correct me if i am wrong.
Can you do or do you have a video on feeding? I have read that they should be fed a low protein diet while they are growing so they have less chance of ending up with the hip issues. Also that mainly a barley/water combo feed is ideal for them. I believe this information is on the kangal pedigree website thing.
hi and ty for your comment and question. Yes we recently did part 1 of Kangal nutrition and I will be uploading part 2 today. Maintenance of the right weight is important as any large breed has to be kept lean in order to keep the hip joints healthy. My wife talks about a kangals correct weight being that you can start seeing a little bit of the ribs. hope you like part 1 and 2 of Kangal nutrition.
@@kangalwhisperermike7126 ah yes I did notice those videos after making my original comments. I have spent the last 40 minutes watching different videos of yours. I am in Australia and am waiting for the next litter from a breeder to purchase my own! I really like your videos please continue! I think a cool video idea would be of you playing with the kangals. For example do they play with their toys and you, or play fetch, tug of war etc? I have watched the videos of mika and kyle playing together.
actually unlike other breeds they don't play fetch. They get the stick once and bring it back to me but when we throw it again they both look me like what's wrong with you? I just went and got the damn stick and you throw it away.... they are super intelligent dogs :) I do play tug of war with them with ropes and rings but they are so strong and they are very rough when they play even when they are trying to be very gentle.
I have a few questions if you don’t mind. 1. How much should a Kangal cost? 2. Is cropping needed for normal living? 3. Can they live with other small animals? Also thank you for making the video!
1)roughly €1000 2)no cropping esrs is only if they have to fight off predators. 3) yes they are gentle and friendly with all animals and humans unless threatened. You are very welcome.
Hi Mike great Vid. Are these dogs great in the hot Caribbean like Jamaica? I have about 10 acres of thick jungle-type terrain on 80% of the property. The dogs will mainly be guard dogs & family pets, they will be outdoor dogs and will come inside the house if they want. They won't be protecting any livestock but we will have lots of free-range chickens and maybe a few goats roaming around. I grew up with dogs in the past and have friends with dogs. Are these dogs also good for healthy active retired people? What's your opinion. cheers
Hi Carlo ty for your compliment. I'm an active retired person and I live in Malta. It's very hot here for about 3 months mostly 80s and 90s but even up to 100 for a few days in the summer. Everything you have described sounds like a very happy place for Kangals in my humble opinion. My only concern would be any days of extreme heat. They are happier and thrive in cold weather and struggle in extreme heat. Mine have spent the last 3 weeks sleeping most of the day indoors in the A/C and cooling off in the pool during the heat wave but have no problem with temperatures under 80. If I recall temps in the Caribbean are not extreme and as long as you protect them from extreme heat I think they will do very and you will love having them. regards
You are very welcome Carlo. Always happy to share my amazing experience with these beautiful creatures. Here's a video of the difficult dangerous life of a kangal :)))
Ot depends on what kind of animals. I dont know your situation so all i can tell you is its important that you understand how to be the alpha in a dogs life and that you never let them think they are the alpha boss. The only way to do that is to have experience with other dogs that are more domestic like Labrador etc
regarding if you should get a Kangal you should watch my videos from a few months ago. As far as trainer it would always help you if you don't have much experience with dogs.
great video, very informative. I live on a large rural property and have previous experience training large and giant breed dogs to the highest level off lead and with hand signals. I love the look of these dogs but still wonder if it would work. I workfrom hom so the dog would be with me 24/7 and go everywhere with me and be exposed to so many situations all the time. I know it takes 2-3 of training, 2-3 hours a day to get them to the point where they are 100% trustworthy to do as I say and have 100% recall. But is this possible with a Kangal? WHat if there was a unexpected attack from another dog or an emergency situation, can you train them to do as you say?
Thanks for your message. Kangals can never be police type trained dogs if thats what you want. They have 6000 years of genetics which allows them to make independent and smart decisions. However based on what you said I think you would be very happy with a pure bred Kangal. I never officially trained them. I teach and talk to them. They are that intelligent. If you can communicate to a kangal what you want and dont want them to do, there is no better canine on this planet. Mine are happy when they are with me. Walks, car rides, meeting the local dog walker and her pack of 15 to 20 dogs. But they also know when they need to stay home while im out. They dont like it but the just stay relaxed until i get back. They never go after a dog or human. Worst case they just avoid humans they dont like or sense the human is not a dog person. They will never initiate a fight with another animal. Mine always approach dogs with wagging tails. Whenever the other dog shows agression Kyle will either back away (especially smaller dogs cause he seems to know he could snap them in half) or with larger dogs he will make a very deep sound and the other dog will always back down. They are gentle kind protective intelligent creatures and they know their strength.
@@kangalwhisperermike7126 thanks for the reply, this is good to know, especially from someone who has one. Kyle is lovely, hopefully I get one as lovely as him
I can see you love your dog but I’m not sure I agree with you on a couple of points. Kangals should not be raised in an apartment. They need outside space at home as they have a natural desire to roam the property’s boundaries and to sit in a place where they have a good vantage point to survey their territory. It’s not enough just to walk a Kangal 2 or 3 times a day. They want to guard their property all day which means going in and out constantly. I also don’t agree that your Kangal will be disobedient. Kangal dogs are potentially lethal. Remember that they are just a dog and could perceive someone or something as a threat when the owner does not. It is vital they obey all of the owners commands. You are right they are not for first time or inexperienced owners. They are also not for someone who cannot physically control them as they are very powerful. I’ve owned this breed for nearly 20 years and they are a simply stunning dog. Good luck with your beautiful boy 👍
I respect your opinion but if you saw my videos i always say never keep a kangal in an apartment. Regarding what they like my kangals are very different from each other. Kyle is very happy sitting on a couch watching tv in fact he prefers indoors over outdoors all thats left is a cigar and brandy. Mika loves being outside rain or shine cold or hot. they have the run of the house and yard they are off the leash twice a day in the fields. It is not true that they need to work with livestock to be happy. They are very obedient but they think independently not like normal canines. In a perfect world they would be running free day and night being in danger of sickness and starvation. In a perfect world i would be living at the playboy mansion but we dont live in a perfect world. I will let me videos speak for themselves. Take care and blessings from Gozo
So i live in a medium sized house with 2 stories and a about 60 spuare feet garden and near my house is a big field Im also in a family living with my parents I plan to move out when im 22 Is a kangal good for me Bdw im currently 15
Hello sir! I don't get a thing...if they are low energy dogs...why they are not good in a city? I have huge gardens and parks in near my apartment witch i can run with him...can you explain? Anothe rquestion? Are they good with other little pets? Like little dogs and cats? Thank you!
Hello and thank you for your question. Every situation is different and im sorry if i didn't say that. If you live in a medium to large apartment in a city and you have both parks/gardens where they can run free for 30 minutes twice a day and most importantly you have the time to do this for them everyday, then i dont see a major issue with you having a Kangal. The opposite is the same. If you live on a farm in the middle of nowhere, but you keep a kangal tied to a post or worse in a cage 24/7 I would have a serious problem with that. Its a matter of balance as most things in life. If they have human companionship and room to "stretch" during the day and they get 30 minutes twice a day running and playing in a park, you will have a happy Kangal I hope that helps. Ty and God bless you.
Ours and most Kangals are very welcoming to people and dogs. They are so overwhelmingly powerful that they do fear anything. The only time ours goes into protecting mode is if he senses a very real threat. That can tell the difference between a dog barking normally which ours ignores or if the dog is going to be aggressive. The never look for a fight.
We got both our Kangals from a breeder in Croatia. Her name is Ana. She is one of the top Kangal breeders in Europe. Here is the Facebook link. facebook.com/ana.sebalj.14
Raw meats beef turkey chicken rabbit heads necks kidneys liver etc all ground up and mixed with pasta and other carbs. There are 2 videos I made thar show you how we prepare their food.
I would like to ask you two important questions i wish you answer me. First question is which sex in kangal are more protective by nature the female kangal or the make kangal? Second Question is if you have any knowledge background on naturing dogs! if i natured a male kangal dog will that affects him as a powerful guardian or being so protective dog?
Hi and ty for your post. In our case the female is much more protective than our male but both will protect us if there is danger. Regarding your 2nd question neutering had no effect on my previous dogs so in general neutering is good if you do not want to breed your dog. in males neutering removes sexual stress and in females it helps prevent uterus problems that can happen if the females don't have babies.
Hi and thanks for your question. No it never was not with any of my dogs. We start very early putting our hands in their food bowls and giving and taking bones to and away from them. My Kangals are probably the least food aggressive dog I've ever had. They are not bothered at all. We do not test them anymore so we let them eat in peace but once in a while we do. Or to show our friends.
they eat half a kilo of raw chicken in the morning mixed with pasta or rice (quarter kilo each dog) and at night they get 2 cups of dry food. I would guess about €1 to €2 per day with treats bones oil etc
I was thinking of getting one of those beautiful dogs and I have to say, having the opinion of a normal owner is very helpful. Thank you sir!
You are very welcome. Ty for the kind words and feel free to ask any questions.

@@kangalwhisperermike7126hi,
I want a kangal but I have a small yard but I’m willing to take him on long walks and countrysides
Will this work?
@@kangalwhisperermike7126 "a normal owner" LMAO You guys ok with that... the normal owner?
@Norollo well its not like im doing anything abnormal
She knocks the neighbor's dogs over and sits on them now and then...
thats a wonderful thing you did.
Very informative. Thank you
You are spot on, I have had mine for three years, and I agree completely with your observations. Thank you for spreading information, great dogs, but not for everyone, or everywhere.

Bravo Mike!!! 👏👏👏👏❤
Never killed any of our livestock or chased them, even as a pup
unfortunately we are surrounded by idiots who dont know they are idiots. ignore them
The best video about any breed Ive seen. I like it this video partly because of the super nice info however the main thing its a very down to earth video. Most people make a theatrical production and make the video about themselves more than the puppies or nay animal.
Ty for your nice comments.

i agree with you kangal is a zone dog not a apartmant dog. it should be free .
Agree in summer mine stay inside even at night
Well this dog is not for me then, it gets extremely hot and humid in the summer here in Alabama
Excellent and loving dog!
fantastic companions I love them
Same applies to father in law - he has a giant Garden outside the city where he keeps 2 Kangals to Guard his little flock of sheeps & chicken - if any person other than him would step into that garden they would instantly get mauled - as soon as those Kangals step 1meter outside the garden they're the most friendliest & loving dogs one can imagine not caring at all about anyone just giving cuddles & down to play , close the gate and watch them instantly change behavior
You re soooo right! EVERYTHING IS SO TRUE🤩I HAVE A KANGAL AND IS THE BEST DOG ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

A kangal named Kyle??? 🤣👏 I love it! I love when dogs have human names.
Good to know.
He’s beautiful! I have two that are 50/50 Kangal/German Shepherd.
How do their personalities differ from pure bred kangels? Does the shephard add to the mix in terms of mood and personality?

The only time I've ever seen a Kangal be aggressive was when they are chasing a Coyote.
totally agree
Thank you so much for all those details of Kangal's description. I have one, now he is 4, and I can totally confirm what you say. I had other dogs before him, yet it took a lot of relearning in me to know how to deal with my Jamir. I also made some mistakes only trying to safe him from getting into trouble ( I live on the country side in the Yukon and there is any kind of wildlife around) or when underestimating his need for an independent pace in checking on things and learning.
Thanks im gonna buy one
Please watch my first few videos and make sure you are ready for these beautiful creatures. Ty for your comments and God bless you.
Did you end up adopting one? how was the experience?
Good video I have a two year old and every thing you said is true I love my kangal girl but she is a hand full sometimes
Stubborn at that too lol 😂
its a woman lol
Kangals choose whether to obey at a given moment, lol, they don't live for your approval, but they do like to give and receive respect.
Not easy having a Kangal as your first dog especially a male. Go through my videos. Hopefully, they will help you.
I think my kangal has trained me more than I have trained her lol.
yup lol
This is the video I was looking for. I'm afraid I may not live the lifestyle the dog needs.
Ty for your comment. Yes they are not your normal dog but they can make great life companions to individuals and families in the right setting.
Could you make a video on what you feed raw and how you determine how much. Thank you
I buy 1 kilo packs of raw food which consists of meat crushed bones and organs and i mix it with chopped bread of pasta so they get protien and carbs.
Have a garden , no city area and i have always been the leading one with the jacks ..thank you for sharing👍👍🐕🐕
sounds like a perfect home for kangals 😀
It's always better to get them from Turkey. Make sure you choose a good breeder.
Mikes's reply is on point as always. So, I would support his conclusion. If you already did get one, how was your experience, Ozan?
Can you do or do you have a video on feeding? I have read that they should be fed a low protein diet while they are growing so they have less chance of ending up with the hip issues. Also that mainly a barley/water combo feed is ideal for them. I believe this information is on the kangal pedigree website thing.
Also, if you have the 2 kangals 1 male 1 female can you do a side by side size comparison please!
hi and ty for your comment and question.
Yes I will try to get a side by side but as a rule a male is always slightly higher and longer than a female
1)roughly €1000
2)no cropping esrs is only if they have to fight off predators.

If I recall temps in the Caribbean are not extreme and as long as you protect them from extreme heat I think they will do very and you will love having them. regards

I dont know your situation so all i can tell you is its important that you understand how to be the alpha in a dogs life and that you never let them think they are the alpha boss. The only way to do that is to have experience with other dogs that are more domestic like Labrador etc
I was thinking of getting a kangal puppy and like raise him and going atleast ones a week to a dog trainer. Do you have any tips
regarding if you should get a Kangal you should watch my videos from a few months ago.
Kyle is lovely, hopefully I get one as lovely as him
I have 2 actually. Yes Kyle is very special. ty
Can they be taught to roam in only a certain part of the house as long as they have access to the entire backyard?
not really but you can teach them not to go on the bed
Sir how about a caucasian shepheard maje a video on this

Hey Mike, out of curiosity, how do they walk? Are they very aggressive walkers like a pit bull? Or pretty laid back? Thanks

So i live in a medium sized house with 2 stories and a about 60 spuare feet garden and near my house is a big field
Im also in a family living with my parents
I plan to move out when im 22
Is a kangal good for me
Bdw im currently 15
no
Ty and God bless you.
this guy is a scammer!! these are not real kangal dog
I live a relatively active life style I don’t go on long runs but would a kangal go on a mile long walk or is that to long of a walk for a kangal
Yeah, 1 mile is nothing for them.
they can run for 2 kilometers. walking is good
Do they dig? I heard they have the tendency to run away from home in pursue of preys? Is this true?
yes they are excellent diggers
yes they will chase prey for miles
Should owners have livestock and have access to lots of acres?
Not at all. You can see from me videos
i never had a dog before and i want want i really dont know what dog breed should i get and im actually 12
if you like big dogs I suggest a labrador. you can't go wrong
@@kangalwhisperermike7126 k
I saw a video on animal watch and I heard that a kangal is respectful to the owner and strangers only towards dogs they can be aggressive
The never look for a fight.
dont fear

@@kangalwhisperermike7126 I can't thank you enough honestly. Thank you soooo much that was so so helpful
@@IA-El. you are very welcome
@@kangalwhisperermike7126 can a kangal protect their owners from aggresors?
@@tonyojiambo3556 Most definitely!
I heard manga is re not clumsy at all like big dogs like they won't ever knock down a kid
ours is very gentle with children and extra careful with babies in pushchairs.
how they react to cats?
They love my cats. They sleep next to each other sometimes cat on top of Kangal. These dogs only protect. They will kill a chicken or wild rabbit.
Mine loves my cat. The cat doesn’t really acknowledge her usually but I’ve caught them snuggling a few times.
Was food aggression an issue for you?
Hi and thanks for your question. No it never was not with any of my dogs. We start very early putting our hands in their food bowls and giving and taking bones to and away from them. My Kangals are probably the least food aggressive dog I've ever had. They are not bothered at all. We do not test them anymore so we let them eat in peace but once in a while we do. Or to show our friends.
thats exactly the same with ours and yes they are the least interested dogs ive ever seen when it comes to food My labradors were vacuume cleaners.
one*
Can they be used for hunting
I dont think so. They only attack predators although they like to chase lizards chickens and rabbits
No they don't really have much of a prey drive
Can kangal be heel?
yes
What’s the best food to feed them
Raw meat chicken beef rabbit
We just got a puppy kangal so trying to find the best foods thankyou for taking the time to reply
Yes best to mix different meats ligamemts tendons hearts kidneys rabbit heads even chicken necks MUST BE RAW good luck and God bless you and the puppy
I am indian ,you can give me 1 male and 1 female and what a price of kangal dog
I dont sell them here is the breeder i buy from facebook.com/ana.sebalj.14
how much it costs you to feed him?
they eat half a kilo of raw chicken in the morning mixed with pasta or rice (quarter kilo each dog) and at night they get 2 cups of dry food. I would guess about €1 to €2 per day with treats bones oil etc
