    I so agree with you that you mentioned they don’t play, I actually thought maybe I was doing something wrong, or my boy doesn’t really like me but no, it sets them apart from other dogs, Kasim has fleeting moments of play, jumping on me, or a 3 second showdown but that’s about it… They seem to be so calm but always on guard.

    Excellent video...great shout-out to Ash....and great story too about the shephard..remember to keep the phone on you...never know when you have a telling moment that can be captured on vid...although you would have had your hands full trying to pull Kyle back on the leash away from the gate.... 😁

    Amazing explanation of the Kangal temperament. It puts my own dog’s temperament into perspective. I have a Boerboel, and what I’ve taken as a lack of confidence, could better be explained as pleasantly passive until she’s not. One big difference though is the Boerboel does not moderate itself once it goes “nuclear”. I love your channel and much respect to your Canines❤

    Generally agree with you that when they mature, they usually don't like to play with toys, etc. However I had a kangal who liked to play fight with me. Growl and fake attack and even wrestle. BUT, you really have to know your dog very well to do this. Knowing their expression when they are playing is necessary. It was like a game to him. He never came close to biting me and stopped immediately when commanded. He was well trained from a puppy. Obviously I would never recommend playing like this with a kangal.However we did have one of those special relationships. He was very unusually smart and learned most commands after one or two times showing him. Most kangals are certainly not acclimated to want to follow human commands since they think on their own. Occasionally there is an exception. Enjoy your videos.

    There is a UA-cam channel called Animal Watch where I have watched many episodes. One of my favorites is called, Turkish Kangal Dog. The first half is typical info that we’ve seen elsewhere. But the 2nd half is a very special British lady that LOVES the breed & has had them for years. Her Kangals have been lifelong companions/guardians. Some of your descriptions remind me of hers. Recently, I went back to watch that episode. I think she would say, Mike, you are doing a great job with them!🧡

    I accidentally opened my garage door up while I left my house. My guy just stood inside the garage the whole time while fireworks went off 1/4 mile down the road. I suspected he would do that but I was still shocked. I lucked out with a really good boy vs the wanderer. The house is just a good upgrade from the field.

Until (like you said) they see a threat. Then you WILL see a completely different creature! Definitely not a dog just anyone should have and especially if you're not able/willing to spend the time building up that relationship of mutual respect. Great video! 👍

    Nice video! Sadly, after training her weekly one-on-one with a professional trainer for 14 months, we have decided not to let our (obviously female) Ayla off her leash ever again outside our big garden. She listens, but once the defence mechanism kicks in, which despite the best treats, Turkish sausages and cheese,- it ALWAYS does, she is completely oblivious to the rest of the world besides the threat, which can even be a dog over 300 meters away. And she will go for it. Other times she finds out the other dog is actually a great toy-size and she will 'play' with it by picking it up in her mouth and shaking it around. The dog will be perfectly unharmed, she doesn't bite, but usually both the dog and the owner are not amused. So now it's a 8m leash for Ayla, which is great because she listens great on a leash, no pulling whatsoever (until another threat is found). But on the leash the Turkish sausages and cheese work to get her attention.

    • @kangalwhisperermike7126
      @kangalwhisperermike7126 24 дні тому

      @ferrybel2472 I can understand that. I made sure early with Mika that there are consequences to not listening to me even when she swtiches on and somehow i got the message through. Its not easy and just like with humans Kangals differ from one to another. In the end there is no training that gives 100% results, I just got lucky with Mika. Careful with that 8m leash. I used it on kyle one time. Unfortunately he saw something and took off and as I watched the leash run out in slow motion horror, I ended up being Wiley Coyote. That was the last time i used it 😀

    Very Cool and Interesting - - the point of recognizing they have the genetic make up with data imbedded for survival and independent thinking from 6,000 years of evolution = Anyone thinking of taking on an animal like that for a PET is a bit Looney Tunes. They Obviously Need to Have Tons Of Space - Exercise and WORK WORK WORK. They Are MADE TO GUARD and Protect TERRITORY and GROUPS OF ANIMALS -- Not Individuals. They are NOT Guard Dogs Like German Shepherds. They have the ability to have great relationships with people - but that is not their PRIMARY Modus Operating System - - You Have To Know This Stuff Before Thinking - - I WANT a COOL SUPER DOG FOR MY OWN - You Must Find Out What They NEED and How They Are BUILT.
