    This shows that there's no dog that isn't trainable, even for a stern anatolian shepherd. It's all about heart and patience from the owner.

    Its normal that this breed has a really strong personality and independent way of thinking since its originally a work dog who needs to take responsibility for protecting the sheep and his owners against wolves etc.; but yes really gj! I think you did considering where he lives now, compared to anatolia, a great job so he can fit more into the world over there!

      I got the tip that if you have a backyard and sort of simulate/make space for their needs as a breed to protect (within limits and show that this behaviour is not done outside some places), it even works better :)

    Dave Edmunds, I don't see misery and depression in this dog's behaviour post-training. I have had an Anatolian and a Kuvasz for 11 years, and have lived in urban and wilderness settings. Their behaviour in the latter setting would not be appropriate in an urban environment, and they did manage to adapt, to a degree.The NASRN (Anatolian Shepherd Rescue Network) assists many dogs that are dumped from rural settings. Many adopters live in urban settings. The well-being of the dogs, and sometimes their survival, is dependent on the adopters giving them the skills to adapt.
    Have to say I would never walk my Anatolian off-leash in the urban jungle. Fascinating to see this dog 's head-shaking and growl-talk identical to mine. Mine also holds eye contact for prolonged periods.The male Kuvasz is the strong, silent type, although the female Anatolian runs the pack.

    • @soal3415
      @soal3415 4 роки тому +2

      My female acts like a mad bear. Jumps up and stomps her front feet in the ground when she wants a reaction out if another animal. She looks like an Anatolian but is bigger and weightier. She's about 6 ft tall on her back legs. She has that growling and grunting and linking lips sound that seems to last for minutes on end. She sounds scarry. She minds me very well unless there is something going on with other animals...then she turns on like a well oiled machine..no stopping her. If it's an animal that I welcome in to our circle she's fine with it. It took a good year to gain her trust and respect...finally. knowing about her breed and acting accordingly has helped her so much. Everyone needs to do research on breeds before getting a dog. I have 10 unfenced acres and rarely do I let her run off. She's so fast that you look away and she's gone. Last week..off she went. She's been trying to argue with a buck (deer)in my back yard...the buck comes up near her like she's interesting..anyway she runs right out where the buck hangs out at and rolls in his poo. She gets so drunk on it she can hard stagger home. Makes me laugh until I realize I gotta give her a bath. Here's the amazing thing. .I walk with a cane and she's quite tentative to helping me up my porch steps.
      I fell in love with her and her with me.

    You did a nice job working with it and becoming friends i raise these dogs as LGD'S id almost bet you couldn't take a 2 year old out of the pasture and do the same. It would of been nice to have heard you stress the difficulties you had because these guys don't make great houspets. The biggest reason is people don't have enough time for them when they are used as a lgd they bond to the livestock the livestock never leaves them like most people go to work. Not to mention they are independent thinkers they have to be because they make awesome livestock guardian dogs. What i got out of your video was seeing a dog that needed some extra attention that it wasn't getting and you were giving him treats and being nice so he decided to work with you this breed is better to be left working.

      The only similarity is the behavior. Getting a 2 year old to alter their behavior is a whole different ballgame. We just rescued a14 months old kangal. She had very little human interaction and no training. I have no training experience but we're making progress. She walks very well now. But miles to go.

    kangal dogs are very difficult to train. because they are fond of their freedom. but they always listen to you and do what you say. but never feed them at home or on concrete floors. feed in completely earthen places. for they are the masters of the mountains, who wander in the mountains.

    They are independent as there can't be a person watching the herd/farm constantly rather it is their job and they must decide their own actions.
    They are stubborn as they are walking with the herd for the entire day while quitting and sleeping next to a stream is not an option!!
    They are large as they face wolves and bears not foxes nor coyotes therefore they must be large enough to protect both themselves and the herd.
    They are insanely protective as sadly they usually face a pack of wolves not just one but even then they would not budge an inch!!
    Anatolian Shepherds are NOT pets and nobody should buy them as pets unless they are very experienced about dogs or actually have a farm/garden for them to protect...

    no matter how well you train them, it is a torture to have something done against their will. the independent remains in it .you cannot take away. they are working dogs, guards.not pets.you can learn it but they can follow their instincts on the street making it difficult to control them especially for women, or men who are not strong enough to hold them on a leash

      eko nezi My grandparents bred kangals for about 6 years. Majority of customers were locals and lived in the suburban area and raised them as family pets. Many were repeat customers aswell. One lady I know of bought a pup and trained him as a successful assistance dog. None of the local customers ever gave up their dogs because of behaviour trouble. They had very gentle natures. Maybe where you’re from they are not family pets. But different bloodlines have different temperaments. So speak for yourself.
