As an Argentinian i'm surprised we got something right (please help us, oh god, we're so fucked)
As an American, I'm sorry that we exported our stupidest ideology to you guys.
Sadly, there isn't a lot of great solutions in Argentina. Things are going to suck in the short term.
I mean, you are going to hate me. The first thing to fix is the inflation: 138% is not acceptable. At this point, I would look to insert a new currency (so go with some sort of coin to replace a lot of the paper bills, so that people feel that it's very different, and call it a yen so people react to a difference), call for debt restructuring again, raise taxes, and some budget cuts to reduce the deficit even try to create a surplus.
Careful, I'm not saying to bring a chainsaw on the budget: have boring and measured budgetary changes on both "income" and "spending."
Which is not a set of policies anyone wants to hear.
I would also have a massive anti-corruption campaign. That thing is a simply a killer.
The currency change is because the inflation in Argentina is so high that the currency starts to be repudiated. Better buy the groceries as soon as someone gets a paycheck.
The cut and tax hike is because Argentina is in an agreement with the IMF and there is a need to follow with reform. Albeit, it's more contractual and done to try to leave the IMF.
The issue is doing this asks for a lot of political will and... There might not be such will.

the more video essays i watch, the more i realize that the American system is so unbelievably stacked against the public. in every way, and at every step. it's bleeding up into Canada too, how inaccessible politics are becoming... it's really depressing
not just canada, but all of western countries, even australia..
Don't forget that candidates always "suspend their campaigns" when they drop out of elections because according to the FEC, they have to fully pay off all debts to technically "end" their campaign. By "suspending" it, they can get around this requirement - they can even continue raising money if they're so inclined. It's one of the dumbest loopholes ever.

I swear it seems like we are never not in an election season 😂 nowadays the media puts so much emphasis on the midterms and the General elections years before they even happen
Well, I would hope they would put emphasis on the midterms and general elections. The major issue imo is that we have primaries almost directly between the midterms and presidential elections. That allows the election industrial complex to never shut off as we are always within one year of an election. Then there's the 8 or so months between the primaries and the presidential election. Those months the media is in full election mode. If there were no primaries or if the primaries were held much much much closer to the presidential election I think you would see a much shorter campaign season.
If you're in a state that has off-year elections (like mine does with judicial and local elections), it never ends. The one thing I miss about politics in WV was that every race possible was crammed into a Presidential year.
When I ran for House of Delegates in 2006, there were only five races ok the ballot: US Senate;(six year term), US House (two year term), State Senate (half are elected each cycle), State House (two year term), and county commission (six year terms staggered). Yesterday, when I went to vote, there were 17 races and seven questions of judicial retention.
@@TheFireGiver My bad, I meant to say that they put so much emphasis on them years before they even occur. So for example, they’ve been talking about 2024 election since 2022, and they were talking about the midterm elections almost months after Biden was inaugurated.
@@wvu05 yeah I can imagine. I live in Chicago and we had a mayoral/municipal election earlier this year. The only year there isn’t an election for me is the year following the presidential election. But even then, the media starts talking about the midterms.
I'm worried that someone in the U.S. will figure out how to compress time just so they can fit an eight-year election cycle into two.
Even Christmas hasn't managed to consume more than one third of the year. 🎄🎄🎄🎄
Thankfully they only celebrate the first day of Christmas.
Except in the phillipines
Here in Canada the election period was shortened to 36 days. Even so, people still complain they're too long.
Oh we all know they're soft-campaigning way longer than that.
Conservatives in Canada start campaigning the second the election is over.
Any longer than a month is too much of a distraction from actual governance
I’m fascinated by how AG1 is fine with them just doing the ads fully ironically.
I bet it's done on purpose. I mean, whoever advertises in THIS show knows the only way ads can ever done here is to make them as funny as possible, breaking as many fourth walls as you can muster and to utilize irony and sarcasm. This show has a special audience and what Cody does might be exactly what sells here. I mean, if Cody did a regular ad, we would all be like "Geez, Cody, all that talk about how bad capitalism is and now you are doing regular ads for crap products?". But the way he does it makes it legit. And by extension it makes AG1 look cool, too. I mean, you now know AG1 and talk about it positively. I will probably never by vitamin supplements myself either but IF I did, I would surely remember this and everything else being equal I would give AG1 the edge simply because of the taste they have in picking sponsors and being cool with being made fun of.

The core reason behind almost everything in the U.S. is money. It's not that simple but at the core, it almost always is largely because of that.
I'd argue this is the case everywhere, since in our society we use money to trade almost everything, free time, emotions, pleasure, basic necessities. Perhaps the problem is more how (especially in the US) money is viewed and used and often an end instead of a means.
Money AND racism.
@@LostMyGoatsAgainNot really. Like Cody said in the video, other countries have laws.
The core reason behind free healthcare in every country that can afford it isn't money. Nor free universities. Nor free universal public education. Not even things like post offices, trains and railway network, or city transport - which aren't free, but are publically owned and operate at a loss.
We're not perfect, here in the Not-US. But we don't have money at the core of every decision we make, and that's what saves us.

All parties in the Bundestag spent (CDU 20million, SPD 24million, FDP 5million, Grüne 6million, Linke 6million and AfD 3million) 64 million euro. (data taken from their -mandatory- publication about election spending).
And this spending and the way campaining was done, sparked a discussion about the "americanisation" of our elections.

being from canada it feels like we hear about the next American elections almost as soon as the voting is done, but our own elections are only like. two months, tops? I've always wondered why that is
The vague but simple answer to that is that Canada has laws dictating the length of campaigns. It is currently limited to 36 days, iirc. It used to be 47 days, but was changed in the 90s.
Correction, the limit is 51 days. 36 days is the minimum. I don't know why there has to be a minimum, but there is.
Since 1996, our Federal election have a duration of 36 days (instead of 47). Also, there are inifitely less loophole in campaing donation laws; excess donation is indeed a crime.
The only place money have a lot of power in the Canadian politic system is, of course, in lobying and similar influance bartering (which is something that should be solved... but won't :( )

Around here, the Maverick Party says they're for one thing on their website, and then put out ads that say they're for the opposite.
I know some people do 0 research and just do whatever the billboards tell them, but that's my point: I don't get that sort of voting.
They aim for the independent voters, people who dont vote based off party affiliation. Independent voters are the ones who decide the winners and are the hardest to predict.
I guess that's what still throws me. People who look at both of your parties and go "Well, they both make excellent points." @@jeffp.7598
I was wondering if I could pitch an idea: adolescent mental health. Super big downer but some pretty horrific things are happening from sitting in ERs for over a month in a hall with lights that don’t turn off (something against the Geneva convention I believe) too there being no place for them to go inpatient bc they’re autistic, to the most traumatized youth getting no help bc they’re “too acute” . Happy to share my firsthand accounts without naming names to prevent hippaa violations.
Two months tops for elections.
First month candidates rally and do media interviews.
Second month candidates do debates and town halls.
All elections need to be mandatory as well.
Ironic that this episode is the shortest SMN video in a while
This is the same American habit as when stores start advertising for Christmas the day after Halloween.
Whoa! Your stores wait until after Halloween?

I guess it starts in July, Totally takes over after October.
I would love a megacut montage of every time Cody has chugged a glass of AG1
Ok, the MC Escher reference to upside out is gold. Love you. In a normal human way.
Katie delivers some excellent bidet news. My only qualm is that my screen is wall-mounted and it was a task to place the cheeks upon those high-up LEDs! Well bidet'd Katie!
There is this passage in The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy:
Space is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist, but that's just peanuts to space.
And just replace Space with The United States of America whenever you need to talk about why things take so long here.
In 'So Long and Thanks for All The Fish' there's a section where Ford tells Arthur about a planet like ours. The people are people, the leaders are lizards, the lizards rule the people and the people hate the lizards.
Arthur asked why they keep voting for the lizards. Ford said its because they're afraid if they don't keep voting for their lizard then the wrong lizard might get in. The Democrats and Republicans are our lizards.
@@nunnayorz5836 in The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, Arthur and Ford end up on prehistoric Earth with a bunch of Marketing Research Executives, find out that 6×9=42, and then Ford spends 4 years thinking he is a lemon and throwing himself into a lake that thinks it's a gin and tonic. Maybe don't take the words of a comedy book too deeply.
In my country there are elections november 22nd. The campaigns started in October. One of the party leaders doesn't even know if he wants to be the prime minister yet.
To fix the campaign finance issue of publically funded elections, you can make it so all media networks have to have open availability to all candidates for a minimum of four, thirty minute appearances free of charge. Real people aviod having to pay for people they don't like, the cost is shifted onto companies/ businesses that can afford the hit because this'll ingratiate them with a ton of attention, and the viewer gets the ability to know in advance when all candidates will be on various shows nation wide so that they can get a better understanding of the available field. That last bit sounds like a canned answer to fill the argument untill you realize that is says all candidates, therefore, people that want to run that are unaffiliated with either party will simply have to be on the ballot to receive this benefit. All of this is to broaden our options and give us the chance to introduce competitors to the defunct system we have now.
But those that can make changes to this are the one profiting. See the delima. lol.
@buckiesmalls Be that as it may, a fully drafted set of legislations that can be understood by the public, but also air tight in their controls and freedoms, could be flaunted to the public and forced on representatives with enough signed support nation wide. Getting someone to make the drafts, a team to edit, and publicists to adversive and get outreach opinions would be my understanding of first steps to get there.
Imagine a campaign for somebody who hasn't been born yet. That far ahead of anything.
Assigned candidate before birth.
Elon musk’s great great grandson
(Please don’t let me be right, future?? Please??)
Nah, not before - at birth. We can call it ACAB. Everyone should know about those.
Thank you SMN team.
I wasn't expecting being called out about BG3 today but here we are.
I added the value of all the comments I had about this episode, then divided it by the number of comments I had, and came up with this, my mean comment.
Cody calls it hogwash, but let's call it for what it really is... BOARwash!
Thanks for the video :)
Love yr work
I'm completely convinced you could sell the shirt Katy's wearing to actual human beings for money.
this is definitley a strange and suspicious comment. i sure hope the FBI takes a look at your hard drive.
Hell, I bought a custom made shirt for my gf because we thought it was so funny
Only 2 places that shirt can be worn in public: Swinger parties, or an appointment with your proctologist
