Kings College Chapel Choir Cambridge, 1987, performs Faure's Requiem. Here's the Pieu Jesu and Agnus Dei.
My God, but that boy soprano has a GLORIOUS voice. Perfect choir and orchestra for this style of music.
can't believe the nerves this lad shows. it is an incredibly hard song to sing - the breathing requires real stamina even in a relaxed rehearsal setting! well done - very moving
Merci Faure, Merci...
My mother choose this song for my brother’s funeral. It still makes me sad 40 years later.
may God comfort your family’s hearts.
The power of the human spirit and the art within us
The boy singing Pie Jesu - if that was your son you would be most proud !
The Pie Jesu's tempo is rather fast, but the voice is gorgeous. Imagine that purity of sound in a developed adult voice and it gives an idea of how amazing the castrati must have sounded in the 17th-18th centuries
Love the soloist's voice...it's very flute-like and pure!
Faure wrote this part for a boy soprano. That is probably the best reason for it to be sung by a boy soprano.
Agnus Dei is just so stunningly beautiful
The little boy is like an angel!
Wonderful
I agree entirely with you, InsectQueen. I'm a gal, but have a boy tenor voice. It's being in this amazing groove of space, soaring, then staying up there. That is what Faurè intended. Effortlessness. Like grace. The boy is exquisite.
My goodness! He is a revelation! Even if the tempo is a little bit quick, this is beautiful.
The most outstanding rendition I have ever heard of Pie Jesu. And there are many excellent interpretations to compare with. The purity of the boy soprano´s voice is more than stunning. It´s minimalistic, totally stripped of decoration and bravura. The Agnus Dei is furthermore beautifully performed. I am so grateful for notyobs to have posted it.
Beautiful and appropriate for remembering the real Christmas
I first heard this beautiful piece done by King's College Choir. Their take on it remains, for me, the standard bearer. Back in my college days, I had the remarkable pleasure to perform at King's College Chapel with the Heinz Chapel Choir...something I will always cherish.
the timbre of a boy's voice is perfection for this austerely sensual piece
I first heard the Faure on the night that John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963. Since that time it has remained my most favorite mass. The Kings College Chapel Choir has done several versions of this and I'm still amazed at the wonder of their voices! Thanks so much for uploading this. It's a gorgeous work, beautifully done.
Having just performed Faure's Requiem for our Palm Sunday service and having lost my choir director, her husband, and her mother in a fatal crash with a drunk driver, listening to this and other sections brings cathartic tears expressing the grief I feel. Thank you

I hope more people get to hear this! We need more music like this in our lives.
I totally agree with you on that statement ❤
6.23 tears are streaming down my face. this is soooo beautiful. I am not religious but this music is sublime.
Faure's Requiem has always seemed to me to be one of the very greatest pieces of music ever composed.
In France we say it is" le requiem de la lumière." Anyway that is the Requiem I want for my Funeral. My favourite piece is ,in Paradisum. 😇🤔
The voice of an angel
l'introduzione orchestrale dell'Agnus Dei è meravigliosa...
My favourite Requiem; the Agnus Dei being my favourite part of the Requiem. I sang this piece; it's spine-tinglingly beautiful. Heartbreaking harmonies.
Kings College boy's choir has provided choral to several moviescores.
Simply amazing!!
Very good soloist - and the choir too !
Kind regards from Germany
Fauré tellement suave !!!!!.💝
how beautiflly SWEET....,,the angelic boy...the music and the Nativity painting!
What a simple singing....so impressive.
The soloist voice is clear and immaculate.
Shame UA-cam sound so bad... I'm not a believer in any way but imo these menaced masterpieces are timeless expression of the best part of humanity. I'm not a connaisseur either but for me no female interpretation can move my heart as these young boys. Thanks so much for sharing. Merci
gaetan brisson I fervently agree with you.
Une interprétation magnifique, tout comme celle de Elin Manaha Thomas, une autre interprétation splendide. Comme avec le Misere d'Allegri , le King's College Choir me ravit ; c'est tellement beau !
This is an angel singing. I'm in heaven in this moment.
L'innocente pureté de la voix des anges qui nous élève ' faire chanter les enfants dans toutes les écoles devrait être dans les programmes d'enseignement
Oh Almighty Father! Pity for us! How beautiful sound way to carry our praises to You!
one of my favorite recordings of faure's requiem of all time. one of the best and most authentic recordings, as well.
This is a beautiful piece given full justice by the King's College choir. The boy soprano has such a clear, silvery voice. I remember when I first heard the melody of the Agnus Dei, years ago, that I thought it was the most beautiful tune I'd ever heard.
yourforte he definitely has a beautiful, clear, silvery voice. However, I am picky about what music I like. Some composers are, in my opinion, better than others.
Our church choir is performing this in a couple of weeks. Beautiful song and well performed.
I don't have words to define this masterpiece
The Saints in Heaven are rejoicing over this song!
The pie jesu's beatiful.
Faure intended both soloists to have that "cantor-like" quality as in the Catholic Church, pure, clear as silver, and lyrical, not vibrato-wide-a-truck-can-fit-through-it operatic. Excellent job!
Just really can't understand who would dislike this one .. Even the gods should be shedding tears of joy .. so beautiful ...
truly uplifting, thank you God for having some folk with the skills to create beauty.
You gotta admit; that's pretty special. I haven't heard a better rendition of Fauré's Pei Jesu on YT. That young boy has a beautiful voice. Then again, I wouldn't expect anything less from the Kings College Choir. Thanks for sharing this with us.
How beautiful - God bless this child - God is great and loves us - ...
My Farther used to sing in Kings college Cambridge amazing place
This kid is beautiful. Perfect.
I think both boys and women can sing this beautifully. They each bring a different texture and substance to this amazing piece of music!
@ilufiki i have expirience at being in a childrens choir im head chorister of chester cathedral girls choir i have sung the pie jesu many a time and it is indeed a compliment that i have a naturally straight boy chorister sounding voice because that helps me to sing the typw of music we sing at the cathedral almost everyday.
THE VOICE OF ALL THE ANGELS, SOUND OF THE HEAVEN
Fantastic. Thanks for the upload. Faures Agnus Dei is anything special in the world of the eternal music.
beautiful beautiful,
I had the pleasure of playing this piece last easter, I fell in love with Faure.
Arguably, one of the finest renditions i've ever heard!
Bellissima voce e coro fantastico
Beautiful how they do that, beautiful.
Pie Jesu was sung by an angelic gift to mankind.
This music is a salve for the soul.
My choir days are over and we never got a vhance to sing this. Wish I had.
That is amazing and horrifying at the same time. I didn't know it was possible to be in choir for any length of time and not sing this.
King's, how could one expect anything else but exquisite?
David Morton 👍👏they are the world's best choir!👍👏
Faure pedía que sea con la voz de un niño... conmovedor
Phenomenal.
Gorgeous !
Agnus Dei, qui tolis, miserere nobis, agnus Dei, qui tolis peccata mundi, dona nobis pacem.
The work, and this performance, are both sensational!
I would give this piece (and performance) 50 stars if I could, but it will just have to make do with 5. I love it.
Amazing voice for Pie Jesu and it helped me get into the school choir!
Voce stupenda. Coro magnifico
This brought tears to my eyes, the boy is amazing! Wow.
I visited your choir years ago, with the Friends of Cathedral Music! Can't remember when precisely, some time in the 1990s.
Oui c'est beau. Je suis heureux vous l'ai apprécié.
Love this, so pure and innocent
Thanks. Great to be able to names to these wonderful people.
Очень красиво - прекрасная музыка и чудесный ролик! Спасибо.
That's the EMI recording with Dietrich Fischer Dieskau and Victoria de los Angeles. Really the all time best.
Beautiful. Thank you.
Pie Jesu and Agnus Dei were part of a televised performance of the Requiem broadcast on BBC2. No CD was issued as far as I am aware.
Oh God yes. We are about to audition the solo for this and I surely hope we don't get the operatic version. I had hoped to tab a child for this.
Stunningly beautiful and humble. I feel the same awe when listening to the amazing ANDREY NEMZER singing SAINT FRANCIS PRAYER. Such humility and inspiration!
¡Impresionante! Qué belleza! I wish one day the Masses in all entire world would be in latin in order to can listen this marvellous pieces...
I agree with you, Alissson. This teenager is flawless in this performance.
Just beautiful
this is one of the most cosmic sounding pieces I have heard, particularly at 6:15, those chords blow me away
magnifique! superbe interprétation! Mille bravos!
I've only just discovered this piece. I don't know how it's escaped me for so long. It's so beautiful it made me cry.
It is beautiful! I first came to know about this when I sang it in my freshman year as a music student at the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago in 1976. It was so beautiful, every time I hear this it brings back lots of memories!!
Simply AMAZING!
1:37-1:54.... Exquisite.
fantastico
This must be the definition of "angelic" singing . Wonderful
My favorite choirs, period. Thank you for sharing this!
that was excellent
Lovely. The purity of the boy's voice is amazing. Bless music for all occasions. This is perfect for a requium. Thanks for the post.
Wunderbar gesungen danke🙏❤️🌹
meraviglioso!
This is from far the best version..
This is very nice...I love hearing this song...Really nice...
This is not a song.
Finally!!! I've been trying to find this song for ages but I always get some different song with the same name.
When the Dubai Singers performed this, it was sung by a sop. She was instructed to sing it as a "boy". She did and it worked well. My Favourite version is Aled Jones / Bernstein.
It's not too fast! I studied Faure and sang this peice for my exam, it's not too fast! And there already is so much passion in there. It's a mass for the dead and he sang it beautifully.
The sounds of heaven....
