Update - It appears Payton has a Grade 1 MCL injury. This was the BEST case scenario. 2-4 week turn around time. And most of these heal quite well. While the injury appeared to be much worse, he's fortunate to walk away with a mild MCL sprain!
Very good information. I was playing basketball last week and stopped quickly. My knee did the same thing as this video. But…I was not hit. I did go to an emergency ortho and got X-rays and my dr said knee sprain.
So is it best to get an mri if i have a knee sprain? So far have had 3 X-rays and they telling me everything fine … but the pain is telling me otherwise.
Great content thanks so much. I just experienced almost the same injury as Payton. Based on your video, I am gonna suspect grade 1-2 MCL. I will ice and rest for 48 -72 hours to reduce swelling, then go to Dr for assessment. Could you recommend anything else to do short term until proper diagnosis? Thanks
A short period of rest can be important to further aggravate the injury and allow for the initial stages of inflammation and healing to occur. Now an mcl tear is a bit different from a tendinopathy. The MCL is a ligament (attaches bone to bone), rather than a ligament. This means it must scar down to provide that stability before heavy strengthening is introduced.
My knee sprained badly 3 months ago and still is hurting to this day. It has tweaked a total of 7 times after my initial injury. I've been taking medication and all but they would only help me temporarily. Doctors have yet to reccomend any surgical treatment. Whenever I bend my knee all the way, the right ligament near the joint on my upper thigh would hurt and on the right side of my knee cap I would feel something crunching. What could my condition be?
It’s actually pretty different. Main reason is that the acl is an intra-articulate ligament and is super important in stabilizing the knee during pivot motions. Usually these require surgery. The mcl sits on the outside of the knee joint and most heal well with some rehab and bracing. Acls can take you out for up to a year whereas mcls can be 3-4weeks to a few months at most.

Great video but at the beginning did u say 67’s instead of 76ers😂😂😂
Haha probably did flub :)
🤣🤣🤣
This is great! Just had a fall and finding out what's up with my own knee. This was very helpful!
Glad you found this information helpful!
Great rookie, hope he recovers soon! 🙏
I'm pretty confident that he will. Grade 1 MCLs tend to heal much quicker and have less long term effects vs a full tear or ACL.
Thank You for information hope i will be recover soon...
Always welcome! Wish you the best.

Hello doctor i have low grade partial tear of ACL or grade 2 sprain what can i do plz rply
Do you have any videos about a patellar tendon strain?
Great content keep up 👍👍👍😁😁😁
Thanks! Will do!
Just saw this. I’m calling them the Philadelphia 67’s from here on out lol
Is there anywhere to streghten and prevent knee sprains?
yeup really working on a progressive knee strengthening program. Focusing on the quads and hamstrings.
How do people commonly recover from an MCL injury? Is rest really wise because, for example, in tendonipathy rest only further degenerates the tendon?

same situation, those tweaks are lethal
Are y’all still going through it?
I fell off a small cliff last week and sprained my knee.
hey Doc can you please do one on Kawhi Leonard of the los angles clippers
I'll look into a potential update video. A sprained ACL is a tricky one, he may likely miss the series if the ACL is no longer functional.
@@SonamMD OK because I was wondering if it’s the same thing like Prichard was diagnosed with

a sprain is the same as a tear?
Yes they can be. A mild sprain is the stretching of the ligaments. A bad sprain can entail a big tear if the ligament.
@@SonamMD I'm guessing i have a grade 1 sprain o the outside of my knee because its unstable but I can walk on it with pain.
Games against the 67 😂 she said
😀
You said 67ers it’s 76ers 😂
U really pretty
67S LOL
