    Something I found out about armor, is that when you use it you stand idle activating it for about half a second. If you are to move and jump forward or any other direction, you can basically cancel that half a second. It can be useful in times in which you need to use armor while escaping an enemy for that extra health.

    1. I think bloblobber can benefit greatly from thermal ink as well, because it will be easier to track opponents and finish them off.
    2. Just in case someone didn't know, Ink Storm has infinite holding time, so you can activate special before swimming into battle and throwing it on the ground.
    (edit: I forgot to mention how thankful I am for these in-depth videos!!!)

    Ultra Stamp. Literally. Just Ultra Stamp. Useful to kill N-zaps, splattershots, .52/96 gal users, splooshes and splashs, jet squelcher, and roller/brushes.
    Rush around and swing each 3 secs. that way its hard to hit you. Useful to kill slosher users.

    Tip for all dualies (except maybe tetra) if you are swimming up a wall and there's an enemy shooting behind you, you can dodge roll to land next to them or behind them and splat them. It's a nice surprise. Also same with all dualies if you are swimming and the opponent is trying to shoot at you if he's next to you dodge roll in the opposite direction of when you were shooting to work as a non stealthy surprise attack

    For the vanilla Tenta Brella specifically: Even though it lacks a bomb, it can still pop bubbles very quickly. If you launch the Brella and then activate your special, the bubbles will take additional residual damage. Running Object Shredder on the Tenta Brella becomes more optional this way.

    The Foil Squeezer, with its unique kit, can do a few handy things:
    1. The size of the puddle made by the initial bullet means it can Raijin Step better than other long-range options, giving it a nice bit of flexibility for escape options
    2. On a full ink tank, it can lay out a very formidable defensive bubble formation: toss a splat bomb, pop bubble blower, toss another bomb, and deliberately space out your bubbles to take up a lot of room in the area you're defending (basically the opposite of bubble canceling). By the time you release the last bubble, you will have enough ink for another bomb to finish off the bubbles, stopping any push dead in its tracks. It works perfectly well without extra ink management, but can come out even faster if you have sub saver or ink recovery. I like to call it Hellzapoppin'.

    • @Wadsm
      @Wadsm  6 років тому +5

      That's actually pretty neat! Bubbles + Bombs is such a strong combo, I should test that out anytime in the future!

    • @heykidzcomix
      @heykidzcomix 6 років тому +4

      Wadsm If you ran enough sub saver to do double bombs on 1 tank, I imagine it would be absolutely disgusting--especially if you tried the same kind of build on the Forge Pro.

    One movement tech I find quite useful for aggressive gameplay is quick grabbing. I found out about this tech from an guide made by the Splatoon speedrunner TonesBalones on Squidboards (he also has a video demonstrating it in the guide). It allows you to climb up a wall in one trip if it was un-inked previously. The way you perform it is to shoot the wall just enough to attach yourself to it (I typically just shoot one bullet), then use the jump button at the top of the ink to jump out of it. Once you are at the peak of your jump, shoot one bullet and immediately go back into squid form. Repeat this action however many times you need to climb up the wall of your choice. The one caveat with this tech is that it has to be done with weapons that have no lag when firing, basically it is restricted to shooters, dualies, splatlings, and chargers to some extent (Chargers are difficult to perform this tech with). Hope anyone who reads this finds this tech useful.
    Oh yeah btw, nice vid Wadsm :)

    • @Wadsm
      @Wadsm  6 років тому +9

      First of all thanks! Secondly that sound's really useful on maps with long walls like moray, gotta check that out!

    • @TorManiak
      @TorManiak 6 років тому

      I think that with the Splash-o-Matic that technique is useless since it i very precise and go at almost the same time using the usual inking wall than using that technique.

    • @Lombaxx444
      @Lombaxx444 6 років тому +1

      Even though both methods may be just as fast, I still prefer quick grabbing because of the fact that I am already climbing the wall sooner than with the other method. I simply feel too susceptible to an attack when I stand and ink a wall like one would normally do. In the end, even though I believe differently than you on this topic, you can still play however you want as it is simply a game and I'm not gonna hate anyone for simply having a good time. :)

    Fantastic video - very comprehensive. I'm always sceptical watching videos from youtubers I haven't heard of before because they always seem so clickbaity with no real content, but this guide was excellent. It always felt like the best players had this deep magic where they could abuse game mechanics to gain an advantage, and yet I could never find the explanations as to how to perform them. This was a welcome change for sure.
    Rainmaker strafing, the special weapon double-slosh and double-roll, Baller/Brella OHKO, the fact that the Inkjet resets its boost after swimming, and bubble cancelling are all things I never knew about.
    Map peeking is something that's always confused me. I watch gameplay and tournament footage from ThatSrb2DUDE all the time, and he flicks his map open so fast I can't imagine getting any information from it. Using the map to track people that've taken damage like that is something I'll have to practice.
    The inkbrush obstacle course for sub-strafing is also a great idea, and I wasn't aware that 19 ability points (1 main 3x subs) was enough to get 2 suction bombs consecutively; it's nice that it can be localised to a single piece of gear.
    Lastly, I can't believe I didn't think of tossing the 10th clam in front of you to basically carry the power clam invisibly to the basket. It's so obvious, and I never thought of it. All this time I've just been picking up the 10th nearby.

    • @Wadsm
      @Wadsm  6 років тому +1

      Glad you liked it!
      With some practice you can get infomation really fast from looking at the map, that's definitely a skill worth learning.
      And the inkbrush obstacle course is actually something I've seen on kivers stream if you know him but found it quiet useful!

    Yo your guide videos are great and you cover lots of amazing techniques that often get forgotten. another one :P
    A few more tips I thought of:
    You can also sub strafe with clams, which can make the inputs much easier for transitioning from strafing up to the basket to throwing them in.
    Pretty sure there's also a thing with clams where if you quickly enter squid form and back again between each clam throw, then it removes some lag time and allows you to get more clams in faster.
    If someone is using stingray on the tower in overtime and you need to keep possession of it, then you can hop on the tower and straight off again to keep it in your colour while taking minimal damage, using the hop jump and ledge jumping tricks shown in this video to shave time off the amount of time you have to be under the stingray.
    With rollers, it's possible to do a jumping horizontal flick by pressing the horizontal flick button before you jump and then pressing the B button while the flick is buffering. You can also do this by swimming off a ledge without jumping and pressing the B button shortly after you fall off. This will still perform a horizontal flick.
    With bamboozler (Mk I), the damage from the full charge shot combos into the 20 tap damage of the curling bomb, making a one hit.
    When you pop out of the ink after rushing up to attack an opponent, its better to jump sideways than right at them. This makes you much harder to hit. Helps a lot with inkbrush especially due to the huge buff in strafing speed.
    Bloblobber Moray Towers strat, you can stand on the second level down and still hit the rainmaker shield due to the way the weapon calculates range.
    2 more Moray strats involving painting the sides of those long corridors so you can swim along the side with the rainmaker or a power clam, making you not able to be shot from above and hard to hit from below. You can also do this with baller. Similar strats apply to other maps but moray is the one with the biggest side corridors.
    You can jump over the wall at the back of nest in starfish mainstage from the front of nest. Saves time not having to swim around.
    Ok thats about all I got if anyone actually reads this comment hope I helped k bye

    • @Wadsm
      @Wadsm  6 років тому +3

      I thought about including the clam strafing but I figured sub strafing would just cover that since you actually do it with clams automatically.
      I like the tip you mentioned that you should hop out of ink sideways while rushing an opponent, very useful!
      Also the last few tricks are map specific, that's something I might cover in another video!

    2 situations where the game believes that you jump and as such your accuracy will decrease:
    1. If you press the jump button while being on a wall. This is another reason to not do it at the top of a wall while swimming up.
    2. If you press the jump button while being on an ink rail. If you press the attack button however your accuracy won't change.

    Just a quick note that you can fast fall with the dualies. Do this by dodge rolling midair. For dualies I recommend dualie squelchers deco, which has better range, a good kit, and barely any lag on the rolls. They might lack power, but most of the time you can outrage your opponent.

    I know this seems stupid but a really good one I see no one use except me is in clam blitz if an opponent have 9 clams and the basket is open if you throw a clam at them they lose 7 points which is a lot in speedrunning and competitive also for rm if you yolo first to get to 50 then you have a defense mark which is very helpful

    • @timothyn4699
      @timothyn4699 5 років тому

      To clarify, each single clam is 3 points and a big clam is worth 20. A big clam takes 10 small clams to build. For those new, it requires a big clam to first open the goal for a bit of time.
      It's a really clever point system, because this means throwing 10 individual clams is worth 30 points (but takes a fair amount more time to throw in), so it's worth more to throw them separately (and it extends the basket-open-time more this way).
      So generally, if the basket is open it's better to throw in small clams, with the exception that sometimes it's better to just get the points in (if say you don't have time to throw them all in before opponents are likely to splat you). If you get splatted, if you have a big clam your team has a chance to reclaim it and throw it in (so it becomes solely useful for your team), where if you get splatted while holding clams, your holding number reduces to (up to) 4, and your opponent can steal them.

    I don’t think the Booyah Bomb was out at the time of this videos creation, but for people seeing this video now, there’s a trick with it. When someone booyahs to help with it, a line connects the user and helper. You can see the location of enemy players this way, so don’t help a booyah bomb while sneaking around.

  • @ajmorales4272
    @ajmorales4272 6 років тому +3

    Here’s 2 more tricks. Keep in mind they aren’t as useful.:
    1: (Not as useful as ink hopping or whatever it was, but it can be useful when at no ink.) Enemy-Ink Hopping: You can move faster in enemy ink territory by jumping every frame when you can jump again.
    2: Super Splashdown Mk II: If you use splashdown immediately after starting a super jump, you won’t have extra seconds in the air. More useful for safely helping allies or getting into enemy territory more quickly [and safely], but loses a lot of stealth and is easily noticed.

    By instinct I've actually have done alot of these, but it has advice for all different types of players, and that's super nice. I actually didn't know Ninja Squid still gave off auditory and a slight visual cue.
    I'll leave a small tidbit about bombs: Don't be afraid to get creative with your thrown bombs!
    Suction Bombs, as Wadsm said, can stick to any surface and even upside down, and in vantage points are amazing for catching pursuers out and creating distances. Splat Bombs people mostly know about, but with practice and learning with timing, you can make a bomb roll just slightly off a ledge and explode the moment it touches the ground, giving people no time to react. Curling Bombs are mostly used for mobility, but under maps with tight corners like Walleye, they offer excellent pressure tools and even can wedge people.

    Maybe I'm slow to the party, but I noticed something strange with Splatlings, if you begin charging by just standing still and then moving, you are actually at your base speed with whatever Run Speed you have, but if you swim and pop out while moving and charge, your walk speed seems slightly faster, had several people check and watch me do it, they say it's faster too

    I don't know if this was in here, but when you use Splat Dualies and you're climbing a wall, start shooting and press B (Dodge Roll/Jump) to go straight downwards to the ground. Works really well and quickly. If you go backwards while rolling in midair, you will go backwards. You can also go diagonally. But if you go forwards, you stay against the wall.

    Special Ink Refill is actually a key component of several sets:
    Inkbrush (Splashdown doesn't change your kit so it's great for escaping bad situations and applying sudden pressure with 2 bombs, splashdown, mobility and flicks)
    Flingza (Splash Wall is expensive, but throwing one before using Splat Bomb Launcher gives you and your team extra protection from rushers. Also good if you overextend and run out of ink, which happens fairly frequently thanks to its close range and high ink usage)
    Gold Dynamo (Same trick as Inkbrush, except with the defensive Ink Armor instead of the offensive Splashdown)
    Custom Jr (With the new ink tank, it can already fire two Autobombs without ink saver, and Ink Storm plus 4 bombs is great for sudden pressure)
    96 Deco (Great for escaping since both the main and sub are costly)
    Undercover Brella (Doesn't regen your shield IIRC, but it does buy a couple of seconds (three is enough to regen the shield), kill enemies, which regens the shield anyway, and get you ready to use the shield and lay down some quick Ink Mines)
    Sets best for this usually have Splashdown, since it's cheap and doesn't affect your kit; or Ink Storm, which is the latter at least. Bomb Rushes are good too since they keep your access to your main, and kits with lethal bombs or Splash Wall work well since those are expensive and often used in combat.
    Sets worst for this are Inkjet (you're stuck in the air for ages), Baller (you're stuck in a ball for ages), Sting Ray (no access to your main or sub), etc. Tenta Missiles and Bubble Blower are situational at best, but you should probably still know the tech if you're using them. Sprinkler, Beakons and Ink Mines aren't usually (Undercover Brella being an exception) used in combat, so it's better to just recover ink normally in those cases.

    One I never see people do except myself is to slow squid form on the side of a wall. If you get the joystick just right you will idle on the side of a wall. It's saved my life many times, as you can turn corners, cut your eyesight with the enemy, and recover in the wall, and if they notice you after, it still puts you at an advantage as you can now finish the climb, and run away or take the high ground for the KO. Can't recommend this enough.

    Some legit good tips, substrafing via attacking sounds quite handy as well as Bubble Blower cancelling. Throwing a (suction bomb) prior to Bubble Blower to pop it faster sounds useful (since you regain all your ink on a Special)
    Best video quote: "...combine these with the last two parts and your bubble play will be way more scary"
    My own tips:
    A tip I use I don't see many people use is using the Sub weapon, Tracker defensively. If escaping and opponent is a bit of a distant away, sometimes I'll throw a Tracker straight down before swimming away, it's a good deterrent from players following you. They'll either stay distanced to avoid getting tracked, or if they try to follow you they either have to go around the Tracker, or they'll get tracked and you know immediately that they're likely following you
    And this 'should' be more obvious than it is, but in Clam Blitz, be aware that you can and probably should throw clams to help teammates build a Clam Football earlier. Gives you stealth advantage of being able to build it at the opponent's basket / not get tracked till then. I.e. if you and a teammate or two make your way to the opponent's basket, and you all have like 5 clams each....you can make a Football and win if you share clams. Ideally, if you have 8 and the other person has like 2, they should be the one sharing. You can try to hint at this with 'Come ON!!!!!' and squidpartying, though some squids don't always get it. Usually it's more like 2 teammates with 8 clams each. 5+5 = 10 and 8+8=16.....share a clam and win! I don't see it happen as often as it should. On some occasions you see a team just stock up on a ton of clams and throw them all in at once, that's good, but sometimes it's better just to get some sure points. In rank, I think it's better to at least start strong and get a lead, then you have a psychological advantage of being in the lead where your team feels motivated and the other team fills like they have to play catchup.
    An idea I've toyed with but haven't tried is throwing a clam out somewhere early near an opponent, before they can see it, off to the side, could be a way to bait them. When they go for the bait, sneak attack them. An idea I have toyed with is baiting with sprinklers and beacons, which work decently well at times.
    Oh, and on rainmaker, ideally don't pop the shield unless you plan to grab it right after. You can build the shield up in your color close to bursting, but popping the shield and leaving the rainmaker sitting there is like unlocking a bank's money vault and posting a sign that you're away on vacation

  • @kyleeeeeeeee9030
    @kyleeeeeeeee9030 4 роки тому

    Mini tip: on rainmaker you can throw your sprinkler next to the rain maker’s bubble, if the rainmaker you are able to make it bigger, the sprinkler will be inside it and do make it quicker to burst it.

    It was way easier to do because of the gamepad displaying the map at all times and it was way better since I was running the recon ability so I would almost always know (by guts) where the enemy is, landing me some pretty sick kills.
    Also, Bomb Sniffer was pretty useful since I would know where the enemy placed an ink mine or quickly avoiding Suction Bombs, and Bomb Rushes.
