First of all, the EU is not perfect. But I personally think it has been great at promoting peace in Europe and lifting living standards for many countries. If a country like Ukraine joins, it will improve living standards, but things take time. In all the EU countries there are nationalists who are against getting EU laws. But they don't understand that there are far more things that unite us than divides. The brexit is a great example of people not understanding the great benefit of cooperating. Ukraine will be welcome when that time comes.

I do not respect for any people who are willing and freely give away their country just to live the good life. In other words for the money. Unworthy to be called patriots and I would consider them collaborators and potential traitors. Untrustworthy. If they are willing to betray their country they will not 2nd guess betraying you.

I was looking at the history of Ukraine a while ago, and they were almost always part of some European empire, either Poland or Lithuania, and were only cut off from Europe during the Soviet era. They’ve been getting more and more Western in the last few decades, and I really hope they make it official soon. Putin never would have tried this if they were in the EU or NATO. They have many allies now, and it should be official.

Some people mix up the EU with NATO. The EU is more of an economic union, not defense oriented like NATO. Being in the EU you will have free access to a large market, funds to develop your economy, you will have to meet a lot of standards, modify laws to comply with the EU legislation, combat corruption but also open your market to a lot of competition from the other EU members. And the most important aspect is that your people can then freely go to work in any other EU country. It is a blessing to poor people, but a terrible plight on the country. Overall, it is a good thing, but it does come with drawbacks.

Its refreshing to know that these people understand a path towards the EU is not easy but possible..
If Ukraine starts developing because of the EU, then all EU countries will equally develop at the same time due to Ukraine having some advantaged in what they produce like grain for example
I hope when Ukraine becomes part of the EU that Ukraine can produce twice the grain to sell within the EU and worldwide and lower prices in the long terms.
No more price inflation due to this pointless wars.
I´m sure Ukraine has a lot more in planning to contribute for the entire EU.
It only unfortunate that these younger people have no idea what the benefits are in becoming a EU citizen, (Single currency, Schengen visa free travel, education, EU single market, trade, digitization of Europe, Europe super grid system, EU rail network system, EU standardization initiatives, EU funds and among other things.
Ukrainians, should they receive the Schengen visa free travel would mean Ukrainians would be able to travel and work and live abroad, and actually making friends abroad, relationships etc etc..
    This awaits them..

For Ukrainians it seems like joining the EU is a matter of identity, first and foremost, as in finally escaping the orbit of Russian imperialism--which is very understandable of course--but also different from the way the discussion has gone in many other countries that have since joined the union.
It is actually refreshing to hear so *few* real economic arguments for joining. I think Ukraine is going to receive a lot of economic aid from the EU to rebuild the country once the war is over, but it's nice that they don't even seem to think about that, they mostly just want to be with like-minded people.

Ukraine shows the spirit and commitment more than a lot of the countries already members and their inclusion can only lift up the country’s already in them. Also people keep saying that Ukraine deserves the protection or has earned the right to join but in all honesty both the EU and NATO will be lucky to have them it not only benefits Ukraine but also both these organisations

Glory to the brave Ukrainians. You guys are on the right side of history. Yes, the EU has been very beneficial to many countries. For example, the GDP of the Baltic countries tripled between 2004 and 2021, with obvious benefits for the locals. However, the EU is not an easy path. It will require and bring with it a lot of changes and even rebuilding the society in some ways, and for this reason it's very likely that there will be significant opposition to it, especially after the first few years. Also, the EU probably won't help if there's a lot of corruption, in fact the same corrupt people will probably start stealing EU subsidies, and the problem will persist. Corruption has to go before Ukraine can join the EU. In the end the EU is a choice, and it's first and foremost based on values, not maximum profit.
Also, the EU is not the same as NATO. The EU is an economic and political union, while NATO is a defense alliance. It's possible for a country to be part of the EU and not be in NATO, like Austria. Likewise it's also possible for a country to be in NATO but not in the EU, like Norway. Being an EU member also doesn't automatically mean the adoption of the Euro, or joining the Schengen Area for freedom of movement. Croatia joined the EU in 2013, but it took until 2023 for them to adopt the Euro and to join the Schengen Area. All of these things are challenges in their own right, on top of the challenges related to joining the EU.

It's always interesting to see ordinary people's points of view, especially Ukrainians in these times. If I could offer you a bit of advice: If you interview more than one person, put them next to each other instead of standing in the middle. Since you only have a phone as a microphone you won't have to move it back and forth and the conversation will be more fluid. Also hoping that your questions will evolve as the channel does. I'd like to tell the lady 18 seconds in that the EU doesn't define Europe by law. Europe is a continent, geographically whether you like it or not, and it even goes through part of Western Kazakhstan. And I'm annoyed, each time I have to explain that because my country (UK) left the EU doesn't mean we automatically stopped being part of Europe. I'm not against countries joining the EU, just against that as a reason. A valid reason for example, would be it being an organisation where member states support each other through various financial problems they could be facing. But aligning the EU with defining a European country (by law), well I find it quite insulting.

See the problems with Hungary for exemple, or Brexit. It's nice to see the enthusiasm of Ukrainians but their politics and medias are gonna have to explain them all the consequences of being part of the EU before. Just in case: Ukraine is a unitary state, meaning that its each part(Donetsk, Luhansk, Crimea, Lviv oblast, etc.) is to be under direct control of Kyiv, thus behaving like a complete organism. This means that neither Crimea, nor Donetsk or Luhansk oblasts can say "we don't want to be in Ukraine anymore, we are to leave it". Ukranian political situation before 2013-2014 made it possible for both pro-russian and pro-european parties to come to reign of the country. yanukovich's party was mainly pro-russian, yet it had to sign the eurointegration paper. They refused to do so. Revolution took place, russia invaded Ukraine and now pro-russian parties are separatists.
Thus, it is a personal problem of those, who want to be with russia. And it is very easy to solve: luggage -> train station -> russia

Evidence: A significantly larger volume of trade with the European Union, the supply of both resources and production. Scientific and technical ties in the field of aviation, astronautics, transport, agriculture, the supply of labor from Ukraine .Financial transfers to the European Union from Russia are simply huge. In Ukraine, the entire resource has been exhausted, or sold to the West. Now only help, they will not earn money themselves. Culture is very relative, it is also common for everyone. But culture is important in everything, not only songs and hopak. Here it is important how developed society is, and it is clear that everything Ukrainian was from the USSR and has already been eaten away and the infrastructure looks dull and sad, there is no potential, therefore everything around is being sold.
