What The “Specs” On Your Fishing Rod Mean 🤔

When braid came out there were millions of broken rods immediately for this exact reason!! Glad to see someone actually address this. Heard alot of trashing of rod companies by morons putting 50lb braid on a 12lb rod, lure weight is the same issue

Doesn’t really matter as long as the braid is a similar diameter to the mono the rod is rated for and you don’t throw any lures that are too heavy for the rod.

@psilocypher so the diameter of braid the same as the mono the rod is rated for??? 🤣🤣 so let's say a 20lb rod if the braid was the diameter of 20lb mono it would be 200lb braid which would destroy the rod if even 25% pressure was applied. You kind of stepped in this one man. It does matter and I have no clue what you were trying to prove but you make ZERO SENSE man 🤣🤣 rods are not rated to diameter they are rated to breaking strength and again ad I fish for a living I've seen a ton of rods overloaded and broken by guys not understanding this

@@davewylie654 First of all, 20lb mono is similar in diameter to 80 or 100lb braid. And it’s not about the pressure applied. You want to use something similar in diameter so that it casts well. Obviously you don’t want to target fish that cause more pressure than what the rod is rated for. You go to larger braid for the diameter, not for the higher breaking strength.

@@davewylie654 The point is, if you’re using a rod and reel that calls for 8 pound mono, but you want to use braid, you don’t use 8 pound braid. You use braid that is similar diameter to 8 pound mono, which would be something like 30 pound braid.

Bruh ugly stiks don't even have a lure weight rating printed on em, cause they just don't break. I feel like Ugly Stiks don't get enough love in the fishing world.

The rating for line weight, lure weight, and action should be used as guidance. There's no standard testing protocol for each measure. Some rods that are rated fast action are so compared to rods from other companies or even different product lines within the same company. I have a rod that's rate for 12lb line that bends less than a another rod that's rated for 15. Ultimately it's best to feel a rod bend before purchase

correction Most rods have line & lure weight rating. Ugly Stiks only have an Action & line weight ratings.& some other shakespeared rods too are like this like the little microlite series doesn't have lure weight rating listed either. You can however find the lure weight rating for these rods online which makes ZERO SENSE!
My "surf rod" has two "actions" listed on it. One for casting the other for the tips sensitivity. Okuma 11' Rockaway SP. I* have caught very small white perch on it too.
