    I have only been fishing bass since Thanksgiving 2021 when my son came to Florida and showed me there were fish in my retention ponds. Being really new to this sport, I don't have a boat so I am fishing exclusively in a retention pond in my subdivision. I bought the rod and reel recommended in the video - great setup. Learned how to tie a double uni and put 15lb fluorocarbon on 15lb braid. I was throwing a Texas rigged 7" Strike King Rage Tail in green pumpkin and on March 3rd, 2022 I caught a 9.85 pound, 25-1/4 inch large mouth bass. Hooked for life. Thank you for all the advice.

    Baitcasters are a lot of fun, despite their quirks. But if you can only take one rod out with you, it should always be a spinning rod IMO.

    I'm weird. I started with those long bamboo poles as a kid like 1980. Then spincasted (good spincasters are also underrated). Then used the old school ambassador baitcaster and thought it was awesome. Finally as a teen with a job and license, I finally bought my first spinning reel. Later I got into the sleeker, smaller baitcasters. I think I still have more spinning reels than baitcaster, from size 10 (1000) to 6500. But you're right , it isn't even an option. Having versatile spinning combos with you are a must!

    Caught a nice 2lb yesterday with a drop shot/wacky rig. I recently switched everything to braid with leaders and the difference I noticed in both my casting and sensitivity is insane.

      Why do you use leaders with braid ?

    • @ertren6
      @ertren6 2 роки тому +2

      @@mikefreetage6808 cheaper and you have more options. Cranking? I can tie on a 10 foot mono leader. Skipping or using finesse techniques? I can throw in a fluro leader as well as change line sizes. I essentially have limitless options with just 1 rod. Also, it is way cheaper in my eyes. Braid last way longer, no memory, and the most sensitive of the bunch. You can a 100 dollar rod into a 200 with braid lol

    I use 30lb braid with a 15lb fluoro leader. Besides having the clear line if I'm in clear water, I'm not wasting all my braid constantly when I retie. I use my spinning rod for Texas, ned, and shakey head fishing. A lot of times jerk baits too.

    I can't decide between tatula xt MHF, dobyns maverick medium/fast, I could maybe get that normal tatula or the dobyns fury, but still the recommended lure weights are really throwing me off. I want to weightless 5 inch senkos, but have a big of wiggle room for a tad lighter/smaller or a tad heavier. I know this isn't really something that can be done without buying 2 rods, so I figured I'd probably go lighter end and then if I want heavier I need a baitcaster secondary.

    I still don't get using a 3000 series reel, I know a lot of Anglers use them but to me it's too much weight for Finesse Fishing. 2500 is as big as I go. I've never had a Bass spool a 2500. Also, great Walleye. That might have flirted with a Master Angler (if that sort of thing is important to you). Here in Michigan it's 29 inches.

    Add some more backing and bring that line right up yo edge of spool! You'll get a lot of casting distance

    Hey Tyler I have a question, what size spinning reel do you recommend on a medium rod?

  • @kecker4430
    @kecker4430 Рік тому

    what size hook/jig is that?

  • @BG-xs9uv

    Tyler, can you go over drag? I get that it’s how rigid the reel allows the line to retrieve. When and why is drag appropriate? This is new to me.
    Also, light versus medium on a spinning rod. I have a light spinning rod that I bought years ago as recommended by the guy as Bass Pro Shop, for the life of me I don’t know why. I’m sure he explained when and where I’d want it and what I’d throw with it, but.... I’m clueless to these light and medium rods.

      Stick with medium! And yes, you can over do the drag. You’ve gotta just play around with it and figure out how tight it should be on the hookset and then how tight to have it during the fight

      My mistake. I should have written that better. Could you teach us about drag at some point?

      TIP .... select line strength and drag accordingly ... Based on hook wire diameter ...

    If a rod is labeled 6-12 lb does that go for braided or os it ok if I went with 15lb braided?

    As long as its not a "Shakespeare" rod combo I'm all for it..

    Yeah the FG knot is definitely a bit of a pain.

    How long of a leader should you use when connecting to a braided line on a spinning and baitcaster reel?

    • @TylersReelFishing
      @TylersReelFishing  Рік тому

      No longer than the rod in my opinion. I want, when I cast, to not have the connection knot in the spool. See this video: ua-cam.com/video/C9kSs-IC2QE/v-deo.html

    Great video!
    I just bought a daiwa 2500 and want to pair it with the right rod. I was thinking a Shimano SLX 7’0 M XF rod. I bass fish swim jigs/Texas rig salamanders off kayak/shore in muddy water light cover ponds and lakes. Does anyone have recommendations for this type of fishing? ($130 max price rod)
    Any advice greatly appreciated!!

    Why is it for beginners? At 48. I’ve been fishing most of my life and I still use my spinning with plastics. I use bait caster for crank baits.
