- My interest in getting a Rolex Explorer or Tudor Ranger is waning over the past year. There are many options available for far less coin and this watch is perhaps the best value. This Proxima PX1698 came in at $119 during the AliExpress sale with a high beat PT5000 movement, adjustable on the fly clasp, fully brushed bracelet, and VERY good lume...you can't miss with this watch.

Thanks for the video. Proxima is usually good at their watches. Ive gone thru 8 or more Proxima watches. Easy flips. I also like the PT5000 movement, they are usually dialled in!!! Cheers!!!!

I am not a Rolex guy either. I did only have a day-date but after the initial buzz wore off it wasn't exactly as mind blowing as I thought it would be. I do like this design however and it looks clean and versatile. I like that it has very little text on the dial too. Tells you what it is and who made it...Done. Nice Remette! Looks classy! The handset is really nice! The movement is a bit of a let down but I am sure you are going to sort it! It would have been awesome if they made the lume orange. That would have popped nicely! I do like the blue loom though! Its gentler on the eyes than C3. The thing is that for $120 you found out that the style is not for you so that make it a bargain. Imagine buying a Ranger and then selling it because you end up not liking it and then loosing a fair amount of money. All round a good watch! Thanks for sharing Bro! Hope you have an awesome day! 💪💪
Thanks for the comments. I not as enthusiastic about the Explorer/Ranger…and yet I’m ok with this watch. I think the price is what keeps me in it. I’d definitely say no to anything over $200. I’d take the Sugess Daytona for several hundred over a more refined Explorer/Ranger type. Week is going! Take care of yourself and I’ll be in touch soon.

Great looking watch! At this price, I certainly wouldn’t hesitate to try to regulate it myself. I’m wondering if that bracelet would slide in perfectly on my BB58, like a Ranger bracelet will! It’d be nice to have a tool-free adjustment (without spending the ~$800 that Tudor wants for a Ranger bracelet).

I like the numerals on this watch. It's distinct from the Rolex/Tudor, kind of gives off an industrial post-art deco look. Shame about the poor regulation, 40 seconds a day off is something that I wouldn't be able to wear.
On the topic of the Explorer style, I'm with you. It's a watch that I think is neat, but it's too simple for me. I can appreciate it, but it's just not for me.
I hadn’t picked up on the style of numerals showcasing my favorite design era, art deco. I do like the style but won’t pay the luxury prices. This watch seems to hit the explorer/ranger buttons and for less than $150. Great value.
About a year ago I would have jumped on this. I was looking for a good rugged all arounder. I did buy an Edifice EFV-100, and this meets my needs right now. Since then I have been on a Casio buying streak I bought a few for myself and a bunch for my wife and coworkers. However, I would like a watch with great lume. The Edifice is so-so and Casios have the back light but I crave a watch you can place on your nightstand and anytime at night wake up and see the glowing hands and markers. I will probably have to go with a Seiko like a SRPD.

In my experience Proxima regulates its watches well, so I would think it likely that rough handling during transport by the courier has knocked it out of accuracy/timekeeping. I find that bracelet very comfortable - Proxima uses it on many of its watches. If you’re looking for a Ranger-style watch, this is a no-brainer. 👍
Very true regarding the accuracy. The test comes when it’s regulated…will it hold. I have no reason to believe it won’t hold accurate time. Great watch and for my first Proxima…I’m impressed! Have a great week!
Judging from the price, I think they are trying to get rid of old stock (this watch was originally closer to $200) so maybe they are not regulating them before they go out the door. 🤷🏻♂️ I may be wrong though. Still a great watch. Definitely prefer this style over the Explorer. Thanks for the great review.
Good point. I bought a Sugess Daytona homage at a low price and a month later it was replaced with an updated movement. Thanks for watching.
