I was brought up in Accrington from 1958, your stories are very well presented, searched , put together and filmed . Thanks for sharing these ! There was a murder apparently on hyndburn road, in a house next to a tiny graveyard which sadly isn’t there now. I think it might be Homebase store now.
Thank you for the kind comment. Susan Westwell, I think is the case you are referring to. We have a video here - ua-cam.com/video/ZXBcDKRCFe4/v-deo.html
Many thanks Jules. I love the research as much as going out videoing the stories. It's just finding something that has rarely been talked about after all these years that I kind-of get the buzz from. Many of the stories are tragic and that's why we like to talk about not just the famous people from the past, but also just your ordinary working folk whose lives at the time may not have been as high profile as others, just ordinary men and women and children. Paying our respects when we do finally find their resting places is what we love the most.
The is a lot of info in the old archives on this and some of it is more explicit than I spoke in this video. The descriptions etc are horrific. But, it's another tragedy that could so easily have been avoided 🫤
So so sad. Thanks for the video. I'm always cursing the OTT health and safety measures that are in place nowadays, but a story like this shows how important they can be.
No apologies needed mate 😃 We are in shock that the video has hit around 1k views in just over a day!!! Just like the podcast we did, it's been our biggest listened too or viewed story which is amazing.
What a sad and tragic event ,so sad . Thank goodness we have learnt from these tragedies and now have health and safety set in place . Thank you for the video .
Hiya Chris and Vickie, I am thoroughly enjoying your uploads ! Chris this was what your meant to be doing 😁 your very caring, genuine, thoughtful, respectful and sympathetic with your content. I watched this one from a while ago when you stated you had over 1k subscribers you now have 6.6k subscribers !! Well done you, roz in oz
Thanks Roz for the kind comments, and yeah Chris very good with his words and gets right into the stories to re tell them. We are blown away by the amount of new subscribers over this last 2 wks, I think close to 3k we grown by in this short time,so we must ne doing something right. Thanks for watching and commenting xx 😊
Thanks so much Roz :-) The numbers have shot up these last three to four weeks and the algorithym that UA-cam uses much have kicked in from one particular video. We aren't going to complain because its a hobby of ours that others seem to be enjoying. We are getting quite a few morons though trying to bring us down with snarky comments, but the more we get, its weird how they are getting easier and easier to deal with. We now just remove those kind of comments and move onto the next story. Much better for our sanity not to get involved with this people.
@@mechan2535 Many thanks again for the kind words of support. Very close to 8k now and we are trying to keep it under wraps and not get too carried away. Not going to lie, we are buzzing by the growth this last month and its all very strange to us!
@mechan2535 We just hit 8k tonight, and it is all thank to you and all our subscribers who like, share, comment and keep watching our videos. So thank you and all of you 😊😊😊😊
As a student of Accrington college in the 80’s a few groups of us were set the task of taking a depressing photo. We had one attempt obviously not a digital camera back then. Strangely we chose that viaduct. It was quite different back then. I don’t think any of us knew the history but our photo won. (I must say I can’t accept any responsibility for winning the task I kinda just tagged along). Strange how it did feel depressing back then.
It's surprising how many people have contacted us saying they never heard of this and yet have lived or travelled into Accrington on a daily basis. It's a pity we couldn't find any graves though, that's one thing I felt disappointed in despite us visiting all the locations.
Thanks for subbing! Just hope you find the other videos interesting. We always try our best with them, there are a variety of things as we try to cover things we find interesting, fun and sometimes a little dark. We aren't perfect and never claim to be the best channel, but we try and just do what we do 😁
I live near that graveyard it is on the Clayton Le Moors/Altham border. A mile or so away from Accrington. Fun fact. It was known locally as the donkeys graveyard as the Blackpool donkeys had a paddock in the next field.
We just watched this now, extremely sad, to think of those little children huddled together, the heat, their fear 😢 health and safety really were not great back then. Poor babies 😢
In hindsight, I guess Duckworth (the owner) had never given it much thought as to the dangers of putting the Heald's onto hot pipes, as, if he been doing that on several occasions without any issues, JT has become a natural thing to do to speed up the drying process. But as you say, health and safety and risk assessments back then would have been technical jargon to them.
Such a tragic story those poor little children 💔 may they rest in peace in the lord's arms 🙏 they must have been terrified 😞 thanks for sharing this and remembering these souls Chris
Many thanks GV. We had been asked on a couple of occasions if we would be up for recording the location and retell the story, so it was perfect for us because of the Easter break we are on. But it's an horrific story and one I'm shocked that many people in the area had never know about. I'd have thought maybe a memorial stone or something could have been put in place on that patch of land directly under that arch.
@@DaysofHorror maybe you could try and contact the local council to get a plaque erected to the victims. Get viewers to donate towards it. I would gladly donate
@@GraveVisitations We are already in the midst of having a plaque placed here in Helmshore for another story, that of the Helmshore rail crash of 1860. We received donations from subscribers and we now have the plaque ready to erect. The issue we now have is trying to get permission to erect it but every single avenue we have tried has resulted in nothing. We are planning on erecting it in May, possibly June if we don't hear anything more from our council or local groundswork team and just see what happens. But this has been nearly 14 months in the planning and been a right struggle. But a plaque or memorial to those children would be ideal I think. I might try and contact the council and see if they may be able to help or be curious enough to know more.
It's awful what happened and every time we pass that area, I take a peep at those arches knowing what occurred. It also amazes me as to how many children used to be in classrooms!
What a heartbreaking story, the poor little ones who died and trauma of their parents along with the children and parents of the survivors, sorry there are no words 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻. RIP the babies of this tragedy
Many thanks for watching Donna. It's a tragic story and more tragic that the names of the victims have kind of been erased from history as we just cannot find any headstone in any of the graveyards visited.
Hiya Chris and family. Long time no see. I hope you're all well. I was just going to research, coz i remember you telling me about the school fire, yonks ago.... I often think about it, when i drive around the roundabout. 👍Kx
This is what we love about this channel - find thing these remarkable stories that people have either forgotten about or have never know before. Accrington has absolutely loads more dark stories we have lined up to retell.
@@jonboypatton We haven't, only because there is very very little source material on it. I've found one small article in an old Rossendale Freepress but there just isn't enough to do a video. Literally, 5 or 6 lines of information and that is it.
they might have been buried at the Macphelah Cemetery (no longer there) now a petrol station which was only about 200 yards from where the children died
What a tragedy. Shame. But one thing is working on my mind. What schooling do you give a three and a half or four year old child. Was this a way for parents to get someone to look after their children when they are at work. It was like a school cum child care center. How things have changed. I also can't understand why the workers at the factory did not pitch in to help the teacher evacuate the children. Shame poor little lambs. The Angel's who collected their little souls must have also shed a tear.
