The ULTIMATE Wooden Gear Box | Make ANY Shape a Custom Box
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 чер 2024
- I was recently inspired by some 3D printing videos that I had watched that got my gears turning about how I could take that concept of creating a 3D object "layer by layer" and translate that into the CNC world. I decided to try this out using a gear shaped outline to create a wooden gear box. In this video I walk through the various steps to create this project and hopefully inspire you to create something unique and original that cannot be created with traditional wood working tools.

The best thing for me are the looks of the wenge and maple combined. This is such a damn great combo!
I agree! They compliment each other very well :) I wish wenge wasn't so expensive or I would use it more.
Agreed. They standoff really well!
Mark, another great design and project. Love it !
Thanks Craig! Happy New Year my friend :)
Just found your channel and really enjoying it. Keep pumping out the content man
Thanks for the support Adam - much appreciated.
Super cool design! I love how you layered all the gears! Looks like it was for real 3D printed! You are a true master
Thanks Julie! I am just trying to find creative ways to use my CNC :)
Love this idea! Was sanding the inside rings difficult? I think getting the inner circles to line up just right without smearing glue everywhere must have been challenging. I think you are becoming the CNC subject matter expert. Way to go!
The alignment part wasnt too bad, but the sanding of the inner rings was tedious. I don't have a spindle sander so I had to do it all by hand. Thanks for the continued support Dude Sawdust and congrats on 2k subscribers!
Great stuff! Maybe version 2 can have motors inside to make each cog rotate. :-D
Thanks Xylocraft! My wife said the same thing! I think she was disappointed nothing moved on design #1. Maybe that can be a future project :)
Awesome build man! Gotta be careful putting that dark epoxy on maple, stains the wood. I had a batch of these “tequila boards” made up and I was going g to put black epoxy over the lettering to get them to stand out but I ruined them all cause it stained the wood😂. Even after I tried sanding it off
Yup, I had the same issue on the coasters as well. Womp Womp. Oh well, that's how we learn :)
Love the project! Question on the table saw. Where did you get the blade cover/dust hood? That looked like a Laguna Fusion. I have the F3 and love that dust hood. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Hey Stan, the dust cover/hood I am using is the floating dust collection guard that is available through sawstop. It was an optional add-on when I purchased my sawstop. If you click this link you can see the build that I have through the sawstop website: www.sawstop.com/build#build-price/professional-cabinet-saw/professional-cabinet-saw_PCS31230_TGP236A_MB-PCS-IND_FDC
Nice job on the video. I normally finish my inlays first, takes extra set up time.
fyi I have both festool rotex, and the $180 ali express sander... i wouldnt buy the rotex again
Thank you Ryan. I am still getting used to the rotex as it has a lot more torque than any sander I have ever used. Can you share with me your reasons for not wanting to buy the rotex again? I am curious to hear your thoughts.
@@EigenDesigns the alie express 6" sander is $200 festool is $700 cdn
I bought it after watching a UK review. I love my festool tools.
I like my bank account more.
@@Island.dweller so far, I can't see the value it brings for the cost it has. The domino, on the other hand, totally different story. I think its worth its weight in gold. But the rotex hasn't blown me away yet. Just my early thoughts. Thanks for sharing with me.
New subscriber here. Any plans to put this design on your etsy store? Keep up the good work, Loving my 1F as well!
Hey Howard! If you're interested I sure can.
@@EigenDesigns definitely!! Just let me know when it hits. I’ve already “favorited” your store.
@@hcamardelle I put the gearbox up on my Etsy store for you today. Feel free to give it a look when you have some time: www.etsy.com/listing/1192476310/wooden-gear-box-cnc-digital-carving?ref=listings_manager_grid
I was explaining all the different products I could make with a CNC. During the conversation a light bulb with off. You could in theory make products like a 3D printer in layers. The difference between the 2 would be the waste wood for the CNC. If you can tolerate the waste wood, the sky's the limit. I've told my wife I want to marry the two technologies together. Making a product with the CNC and accessories with the 3D printer.
This time I will do it manually with the help of Woodbex plans designs.
