      @@ringofdeath13 Well I wish other UA-cam videos were this well done. Most just ramble on, unscripted. Some even end up in failure, yet they were posted. It almost seems UA-cam posters get paid by the minute. Lately, many videos have titles that are outright lies, clickbait. I look at comments during the first minute. If there is a negative, I drop out.

    probably do already but in case you didnt know this video inadvertently created an amazing music machine, song and music video made by wintergratan, i just watched his how it was made video and he referenced this as where he learned to create the gears and then decided to make the machine. i instantly recognized the name mattias wandel as i was already subscribed :)

    @Matthiaswandel Hey thanks I found it and also see that you have the option to evaluate the program which I think is great. The planetary gears look incredible. This looks like a must have program, looking forward to trying it out.

  • @AffordBindEquipment
    @AffordBindEquipment 5 років тому

    I think that if you drill the hole first in the center and then make a pivot on the band saw with a sliding table, the teeth would come out more uniform as you would not have to align the gear exactly on every tooth.

    Thomas Edison said genius is 20 percent inspiration and 90 percent perspiration. I think this qualifies because he developed a software program to do this which took a lot of time. He also developed his woodworking skills to the point that he became able to do this repeatedly.

  • @713927
    @713927 9 років тому

    Do you just have threaded rods running through the gear to move the jig forwards and backwards??? Gonna make a simple jig for work, that was the first thought I had other than making a simple notched piece of hardwood to run along a single gear.
    Thanks man, this is an a lot easier and more efficient mechanical method for a jig than I've seen elsewhere haha bravo!

    Here is a simple suggestion for making the hole cutting go faster. Instead of using an awl to punch a small hole between each teeth, drill the center hole and put a 5/16 bolt through into the drill press sacrificial table, then just align the first hole and spin the gear to put in the rest.

    • @matthiaswandel
      @matthiaswandel  9 років тому

      Nicholas Tinling Punching a center hole is more accurate, because the point of the drill will naturally follow it.

    • @nicholastinling1022
      @nicholastinling1022 9 років тому +3

      Matthias Wandel Except punching the center hole for the gear teeth is done by eye which, in my view, is just as inaccurate as a wandering bit.

    I think you're talking about ring gears. If so, just print out the proper gear size that you'll need and paste it onto a slightly larger circular piece of wood. Cut out the INSIDE as opposed to the outside.

    What kind of plywood do you use? Where do you get it? At 3:35 when you are filing, the plywood appears to be equal to a solid wood. In fact, it almost appears petrified - almost stone-like. The plywood I use, such as Birch Plywood (NOT Baltic Birch - just plywood laminated with Birch) has actual wood fibers between each layer. My plywood seems much less compressed. It's so hard to explain what mine is, but to sum it up - my plywood is normal! LOL Yours isn't normal. Like I said, it is solid, stone-like and really has no texture in the different plys. What kind of plywood is that??? Thanks!!!
