I am inspired by your Schefflera, Nigel. They have the habit of a ficus with such lush foliage. Beautiful. In your honor I bought a dwarf schefflera, divided it into 3 and now I am on my way to schefflera greatness....only 25 years to go.😁👍
I think that was absolutely the right call, the tree was beautiful before but it has an extra elegance now. Love your schefflera content! Thanks, Nigel!
Crouching tiger, hidden dragon - this was the first thing that came into mind when I saw the video title. 😊The curvy trunk and branches really makes you think of the body and legs of a Chinese dragon.
Great decision to go with the windswept look on this bonsai. Was skeptical, but the end result makes a difference. That Christmas cactus is looking wonderful! I think your plant has the spines because you let it develop a trunk. Most of these plants have only the newer growth for the flowers.
I would've never thought of removing the left hand branches but it was such a big step in improving the tree! Glad you didn't remove that upper one on the right hand side. I'm eager to know how this'll look like with the first pair leafs :)
Nigel looking at the apex there's a group of 3 branches growing from the same point. Could lead to inverse taper. I would remove the thicker vertical one leaving the other two. These remaining branches go with the flow of the overall design. Good decision on the new style.
I wonder if you could get some rubber tubing and put that on your door handles to the greenhouse for ease in opening the doors to keep your fingers from freezing? Just a thought.
Really elegant form on the Schefflera. Your Schlumbergera is also looking really good in bloom. Interesting to see how your Schlumbergera actually forms a trunk, my Schlumbergeras don't form a trunk as such but that's probably because they are Schlumbergera truncata hybrids and yours is a different species. Interesting to see the spines develop on the trunk too.
What happened with your Christmas cactus happened to me once with an aloe Black Gem - originally a completety spikeless aloe variety. It suddenly grew spikes after a severe pruning! It happened in a week, I hardly believed my eyes! Apparently they hadn't manage to bred the spikes out completely, and the variety may react to damage by growing them. I had divided it before with out that happening, but didn't cut it back that hard before.
I don’t know about a dancing dragon but the lower right side of that tree looks like a dancing woman. Bent over backwards on one leg and the over leg in the air. Every part of her body can be seen. 2 legs 2 knees her mid section 2 arms her neck her head and even her hair which I believe are aerial roots. Amazing
I was so skeptical of removing the left branches, but afterwards, I totally understand. It looked nice before, but after it looks great! Perhaps when it's repotted, it could be moved slightly left.
The shefflera looks so good after those big cuts! The trunk movement is awesome! 🥳 I asked for a cutting off my moms Christmas cactus, but she wasn't too keen on the idea.. Maybe I'll sneak one off next summer 🤔😬
Well I'm even later than usual.... Three things I learned: It's too cold for me in Canada. Yet another plant I had never considered making into a bonsai. I simply can't anticipate what you're going to choose to remove. I try to guess which way you'll go, and why - and I was off on this one the whole way through lol.
It sort of reminds me of the dragons you see in Chinese parades which are composed of two men inside the costume and the man in front holds up and controls the head.
Boa noite! como fazer raízes aéreas? Em que estação do ano devo fazer poda drástica e poda de raízes e troca de vaso e substrato?Obrigada aguardo retorno!
Yes, the display has gone all funny, I tried drying it out and a new battery, but nothing seemed to fix it. Connor mentioned that the grow stores sell one that has worked for him. I'll get one this week and try it out, they are so nice to have! Thanks Alvaro!!
Unleash the dragon! I didn’t realize how amazing the structure was until you defoliated. Fantastic tree, great job Nigel!
Thanks Jay, it was nice to see the bones again!

Thanks so much!!
The comedy in your clips is subtle but amazing! Loved the winter vacation. Thanks for being both informative and entertaining!

the result of hard work and patience will produce extraordinary works...you are cool, Nigel 😍👍
Thanks so much!!
i have fallen in love with this Dancing Dragon! i think it looks fierce and focused post-pruning….
I have a dwarf schefflera bonsai of my own that I need to work on so I always look forward to your schefflera videos!
From what I understand it’s those winter winds that are deadly for the trees, especially maples. The greenhouse(s) are doing their jobs for sure!
Great flowering Christmas Cactus. Great for Christmas. Nice old cactus. She does you proud!!!
Cheers Nigel,
I like this tree even better.
It has a wind swept look. I like it!
I really love the branch movement…a winding serpent certainly describes it.
Beautiful structure. I love the decisions you made. Thanks, keep growing
Thanks Matt!!!
I like the new look of the schefflera, wind swept! You can make tiny bonsais out of those cuttings!
Thanks Xin, I left the cuttings in the greenhouse, hopefully they will be good until tomorrow!!

Looks beyond cool that shefleta
This was one fantastic video. Had to watch it a second time. Really great!!!

Good choice making it windswept! Also that big aerial root on the right balances it, looks like it supports the tree leaning over.

I really like that shefflera!
Branch structure is so cool on that one!
With the upper branch it looks like dancing dragons. I like it. Nice tree!

The decisions may have been tough, btu I think they were right. The wind-swept look really suits the tree!
I like the look after you cut the left branches off. Well done sensei 🙏🏻
Thanks Ed, it was a tough choice!

for the glass greenhouse roof - maybe apply Rain-X so it will shed show and water more efficiently?

That schafflerea has really grown so well👍 lovely flowering on cactus 🌺🌺
Love the “Dancing Dragon”! 🐉 My Christmas cactus are blooming as well… they smell awesome! Thanks for another great video!
Really cool
Awesome my friend 🥰🥰🥰

Thank you! Cheers!

Hahahahahhaaaa. The leaves are on vacation. 🧡👊🏻🇨🇦
Here be dragons!
I like it
It did look better after the branches on the left were removed! Not at all what I was expecting you to do!
Yes, I wasn't expecting to do that either!!
The dancer is the strongest element to my eye. A dancer or a gymnist.

When you defoliate these, how long does it take for them to produce new leaves?
Yes my friend ... i am learning too here....temperature at your place as your seasons...
Thanks Ronin!
It sort of reminds me of the dragons you see in Chinese parades which are composed of two men inside the costume and the man in front holds up and controls the head.
That's what I see too!
Defoliation is ok in December on these?
Kan u not put bubble plastic under the pots and stro on the ground ,that's wat I do .thanks for the video and stay healthy !
For 10' C you saying not bad, we feel chiiiillllll here at 22' C only 😅
Nigel i absolutely love that pot.
Do you have the STL for sale anywhere?
I don't have the file for this pot anymore, I lost it when my hard drive crashed, sorry!
no worries!!
Nothing worse then having hard drives crash@@TheBonsaiZone

I can’t even begin to imagine what -30 feels like 🥶 I start feeling upset when it gets to 0 let alone anything minus.. God bless central heating! ☺️😂
Tuyệt vời

🙂
🍎👍
I thought it was concrete.
Send me one plant
Let that upper branch go , don’t trim it
It does form a nice triangular shape at the current length!
Foist
Nice Foist Geoff!!!
