He's really informative, but I'm so upset. I've had a plant that I bought as a tiny little thing and it just grew straight up as one stalk. I love it, but it got so tall and I didn't know what to do so I watched this for help. I did what he said, but it just seems to have died at the top and the dead part has reached the next stem, but no new growth has sprouted. I think I killed it :(:(-------------*** UPDATE *** I'm happy to report that I finally have new growth not only on the top shoot, but on the two below that one. they sprouted new growth at the same time. I feel much better and should've trusted the expert. Thank you!
I especially appreciate the pace at which he speaks and the thorough explaination given as to the reasoning behind the instruction. Listening to a person speak in an unhurried relaxed way is refreshing and much appreciated. Thank you.
You are a natural teacher young man .. Excellent video.. clear, concise, and most of all ... Enjoyable to watch and listen to. I will be using this tonight to propagate a 2-meter-high Schefflera arboricola thats gone crazy ... Thank you.. great vid 😘.. I will report back 😉..
Many thanks for this, I bought one of these plants six months ago and it's been in a large south west facing picture window so plenty of light. The wife says if it gets much larger it will open a window and escape up the side of the building.
Very thorough explanation! I really appreciate the clear visuals too. I’ve had 2 unsuccessful schefflera propagation attempts and feel much more prepared for my next try, thank you!
I really needed that. My Shefflera was active dying with root rot and her leafs were falling off one by one; so i figured i might be able to propagate it before i would throw it into the trash. Let’s hope the cutting will live😐
I clicked on the video to know about Schefflera plant propagation..But by end of the video, I have learnt more things about propagation in general..🙏 Awesome work as always👌👍
This was a FANTASTIC instructional video on propagation! My husband attempted to propagate our umbrella trees a few years ago by just dipping the cut end in honey and sticking the cutting right back into the ground . Whatever article he read or video he watched on that method was completely inaccurate & unsuccessful. I have several of these growing in beds surrounding our back porch and are growling taller and unevenly than everything else. I have been hesitant on trimming them back the last couple of years. But Now after watching this, I’m very excited to cut them back now! Can’t wait to see the results from multiple cuttings I will be using your method on! Thanks for such a detailed & descriptive video!!
So yes… you have done it again guys… I did not have a clue about propagating the little treasures. And really look forward to next spring. This was maybe on my list of favourite plants but after having bought them during lockdown and they have thrived for 2 years without needing a great deal of time and they always look so fresh they have climbed very rapidly to my top five favourites. Will be searching for a video from you for Alocasia my absolute top favourite plant but also sometimes such a diva they can be hard work. Thank you
This was interesting! We got one of these from my grandmother's funeral end of June. I absolutely loved the look if this plant but now about 2 months later, I'm worried they packed too many stems into the pot for the "pretty factor" & not for the plant's health. I can't wait to propagate a few new plants!! Thank you for helping keep my grandmother's memory alive
9:24 I’ve watched enough of your videos to know this tip now and I just got a cutting from a restaurant for this plant and so I’m super excited to have used your tip and know that I have success.
This was very informative! I've had my arboricola for years and it's just been leaning to the side so I'm glad I can save it, and when I looked it up a while ago I didn't think it could be propagated.
I am new to Schefflera and I am already in love with it. I have bought a varigated one ( yellow & green ). Your video is very helpful regarding propagation & soil mixture. Thank you for sharing it! I have just subscribed to your chanel.
You are a life saver! I was moving and I broke a big branch off and now I know how to help my tree in many more ways than I knew. I should have been pruning it all along and I didn't know that. Thank you so very much!
Thank you for educating me on how to take care of my Schefflera. I appreciate how thorough you are and that you take your time to explain, and as of now I am your newest subscriber!
I got one of these and it was huge and lush about 4.5 foot tall and I moved it into my apartment, and a month later half the leaves and stems are freaking gone. Dropping off everywhere.
I bookmarked your channel, I never had much luck with propagation, after watching your video I could almost call myself an expert, I even managed to figure out how to boost the number of stems you get from a node. Thank you so much, your videos are way better than most plant videos I've watched.
Very well explained. Thank you so much. Please tell us about Schefflera Amante. I had one that suffered a winter freeze. I am so sad. Still hoping to see some leaves on it. Please post a video to how to take care of them. As they are so hard to find here in Houston, TX
I tried the stocks like you did, but also tried little segments with 1, 2, or 3 leaves attached like some other videos suggest. The stalks with multiple leaves took 2-3 months to have good roots and plant in dirt. The small ones, some had one 2 or 3 nodes with just as many leaves. The ones with at least 2 nodes put of new leaf growth throughout being in water and have finally started getting roots and some are almost ready to put in water it has taken 6 months!! I put them in water June 29th and it is now jan 31st. Unless they lost all leaves and went mushy I kept them and it has paid off. 2 of 4 of the stock propagated ones thrived going straight in premium gnat reducing soil (w added perlight) other 2 went in non premium soil(added perlite) and died tho one was knocked over by a cat.
Thank you so much for this informative video. Now I know for sure on what mistakes I have been making in my attempt to propagate this plant and be able to do it with success.
Thank you for such a clear and detailed explanation. I think my mistakes have been leaving too many leaves on the plant and not changing the water often enough.
Would you please caption your videos? This helps hearing impaired folks and also provides correct spelling of plant names. Your instructions are so clear and helpful. 🇸🇪
I liked this video, the only thing I did was speed up his voice😄he speaks very slow😁but other than that it helped me a lot, I was cutting my plant 🪴 while watching his video! Thanks
I bought a Schefflera leaf cutting and although it put out a good root system - no growth on top! I've got back to the seller asking for a stem with at least 2 nodes. It seems so obvious after your explanation that these are needed, but when you buy something from someone, well, you just assume that they know what they are doing...
Tusen tack!
I would like to know how you got it really tall like the 1 behind you? or how they braid the stem ? I will watch next vlog on this maybe the answer is there. Thankyou as always
This is a very helpful video because not only was I able to understand what kind of plant I had but I also learned how to care for my Schefflera and how to properly propagate. I am a novice plant owner and one thing I did recently with a leaf steam was plant it in a clay pot. This was a guess I had at propagation, before watching your video. What I noticed and my question is that I have started too see small roots emerging from the soil. Is this also a method of propagation and how do I need to proceed to create another healthy Schefflera? Thanks in advance.
I have 2 of these and they are many years old (over 20) but they have never been cut or trained properly. What would your advice be on how I can train them. They are very large now and taking over my bay window. I live in the UK and can post pictures if that would be of use. Great video by the way and very well explained. Thanks
10:16 it raises the what now 😄😁👍👍 Im glad its not just me that loses it at times when doing videos hehehe - This video was SUPER helpful and im most greatful for your advise on these beautiful plants. 🙏🙏
Very good video, thorough and crystal clear, thank you so much!! With the leaves you pull off .. can anything be done with those?? Seems such a shame to waste them 🙁
Great explanation given. I'll propagate my umbrella tree. It is quite tall and not looking good. I'll wait for spring as these days are still dark, cold, and cloudy. I want to reduce the height and make it fuller at the bottom. I hope I will cut it right. Any advice from your expertise? Thank you.
Outstanding, well thought out, explained, thorough, instructive video. Especially for a new beginner. I can’t express enough appreciation for your video. Thank you Thank you Thank you!!! The best video. I think I will just keep to your videos for all my planting needs. Is there a “Search” within your channel on UA-cam?
Impressed! Thank you! The video is almost over, I’m hoping you talk about fertilizer! If not I hope you can let me know! I will look for your page on FB! Thanks again!!!
My umbrella plant was dropping whole stems, not just leaves. I repotted it and moved it's location... Which now after watching your video I'm terrified that it's going to be SUPER stressed and drop what's left of it. Long story short, will new branches grow? Or will it be top heavy from now on? I did now also tie it up to help with support.
Thank you so much for the knowledge that you share, I really enjoy your channel. I have a question: if I have a tall, one stem plant, and I want to cut it and propagate two plants: can I cut the stem ant then devide it once more into new 2 stems and put those into water?
Exactly my same question because it's the same thing I have: a long long plant from two stems, so I was wondering if I could make two cuttings of that long one; otherwise, seems like a lot of wasted plant and sad to cut it :-(
The answer is Yes! I cut my plant and because it was long, I cut that in two pieces, put them in water and they're rooting and can even see the baby leaves growing already on top! Hope this helps.
Love this video. Saved it until I was ready to prune my schefflera. It came from my Mother's home. It was so leggy and became a popsicle shape. It grows very slow due to the light in my house. I have just trimmed it to try to propagate healthier plants. I am wondering what else I can do to the spindly plant I have left?
Thank you so much for this video! I hope you'll see and answer my comment, lol, cause I have a question. 😅 I have a dwarf umbrella tree, but it's only one stem and the bottom has no leaves... And the leaves are much more spread out. It was sick and needed new soil, perhaps that's why it also is less dense. The stem itself is about 30 cm tall. I only have 17 or 18 leaves on. Can I propagate my tree without destroying it? Perhaps make it even better? 😊 I've seen pictures of these too where they got quite tall and tree like, I liked that too, but would like more stems. Thank you in advance!
Would also love to hear about this. I have a BRAIDED 3-Stem (about 3 feet tall) but 2 of the stems have completely died, leaving me a with a pretty bare 1-stem dwarf tree. Wondering if I can plant some newer stems or some way to get lower growth on the existing tree?

This is so much more in-depth than I thought it would be. In a good way

I absolutely love that Topiary form of Schefflera in the background, it’s magnificent.
I especially appreciate the pace at which he speaks and the thorough explaination given as to the reasoning behind the instruction. Listening to a person speak in an unhurried relaxed way is refreshing and much appreciated. Thank you.
What impeccable English enunciation - better than many native speakers! 😄
Best video on propagation of this plant

Excellent! I love the precise descriptions - wonderful for beginners who might not know for example, what is considered a leaf on this plant.
His voice is very calming .

Thank you for taking this time to slow down and explain and show where cuttings should happen.

Good morning 🌞 Thank you for sharing this information 🌻 My question is what time of the years is a good time to start cutting to replanted Thank you 🌻

How do you see that the branch have aerial roots?
@@JungleDance schefflera usually have many aerial roots you can see my trees ua-cam.com/video/cy7XB9bqELM/v-deo.html

What about peperomias? Do they live in low light?
So helpful! Excellent video! Thank you!
So I also planted not only the stems but some leaves as well. They rooted but will they branch and become a full plant?
Fascinating. Great info
Nicely detailed. Thank you!
Really convincing explaination. Thank you.
Are the nodes they part where you remove leaf stem? I really appreciate how thorough you are in all your videos. Thank you!
The node is where the petiole (smaller stem that the leaflets are attached to) connects to the main stem/trunk of the plant
Yes
Can I take multiple cutting from the same stem and get the same result? Love the channel BTW.
Thanks for an informative video!
If you have a very long stem, can you propagate multiple stem cuttings from the same stem? (Thinking similar to propagating pothos)
I’m also curious about this
following your guidance I am gonna have to do a second and final repot in December in UK. Would that be ok? Do they need to be in indirect sunlight even when you put soil and perlite? After 1 month and half it has already grown a bit!!! I am quite happy so far
Magnificent you, appreciated.
What do you do if you have a plant with extremely long stems but no leaves except at the very top? I've had my dwarf schefflera for probably at least 6 yrs but just kinda kept it alive and never pruned it; so it has 2 extremely leggy stems that are barked over. I'd like to propagate from them and hopefully make the existing plant bushier but I'm afraid if I cut them, they'll just become stumps on the existing plant. Will the cuttings grow roots if there aren't any leaf nodes near the cutting? Sorry, I know that's a lot of questions. 🤔
Thanks you
If the stem has calloused will it still root?
Very informative how to propagate umbrella plant.
Will removing leaves incourage new branch? Instead of cutting or pruning the plant?
Does notching help get more branches
