Not forgotten by everyone in the UK. The Aussies and Kiwis fought with great courage and determination. They stood with us from the start and were there at the end. Your armed forces are a credit to your countries, remember them with the pride they deserve :)
Brings back some memories for me as a kid growing up. My Uncle Derek (wasn't a blood uncle but super close family friend). He was a "Cooper" by trade but was also a desert rat! My uncle Alf (Mums brother) was in the RAF in the Desert campaign and was an armourer. My dad and his brother "Tommy" were both RN and served al over the place! They both did Mediterranean convoys and also stints on the Arctic convoys. Luckily they all survived and would often tell a few stories once the ALE had been flowing for a while at family do's. Sadly they are no longer with us as even time catches up with the survivors. Hard men all of them but the nicest people you could ever meet.
Great video as always Taff. This one has bit of a personal note though. I had a great uncle who was a Rat of Tobruk. He was in the 9th Division Ack-Ack so was probably one of those gunners guiding Taff onto the last Junkers so to speak. he died before my time but my granddad always said he complained that the standard ring-and-bead gunsights on their guns were useless at tracking a target faster than about 250 m.p.h. When he got back home in early 1943 he and my granddad (who was an engineer at Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation) devised an imporved sight that was - I am told - effective on aircraft up to supersonic speed. They submitted the design but unfortunately by the time it was adopted radar aiming was in so it wasn't needed but it seems to have seen some service as an auxiliary backup and you can see them on a number of Bofors guns at RSL memorials around Australia.
Taff I do have to say I really in enjoy your career series. Great fun and you get invested in the campaign as a viewer quick. I enjoyed these Tobruk videos. Is there an option for a Martlett or Wellington career in the Med.
Good to see mate talking and adding some history to the start of the vids ... As you always do..Bloody great showing the aftermath the mayhem and destruction... Nice landing you lucky bugger.........
I hate it when people play Cliffs of Dover because the game won't work for me and I just gave up trying to make the Joystick work. Should I watch and be jealous ie hate you :P
There is a built-in flight recorder and player in Cliffs/Tobruk that allows external views. Yet with some inconsistencies - there are some effects that do not work in the recorded files.
ya as JG4_DUI says you can start a reply track recording and then post the mission load it up and record some external views, feels very old and clucky by todays replay functions and as stated some times its a little odd for example the Ju88 was running on 1 engine although in the external track it looks like both are packing up. Apart from that its a great sim to play around in
Remember the South African Maramduke “Pat” Pattle. Probably the highest scoring allied pilot in the Mediterranean/African Theatres. And a first class Gladiator Pilot. His method was to fire a short burst and rupture a fuel tank, then wait for the fuel to leak then fire another short burst and wooomph. That’s what I read anyway. Top Scoring Aces of the RAF no longer in print is a superb book. If you can get hold of a copy.
The difference in diameter is +50% BUT the circular area is over 100%, that's double the weight alone. Then if the bullets are in proportion, the .50 must be 50% longer as well. This adds up to a .5 being three times the weight of a .303. Three times the size is a huge increase in damage, no wonder the P51's did well!
Did he check his 6? I thought he was too busy admiring his handiwork on the Ju-88 and never saw the 110 coming! One of Taff's greatest faults is not checking his 6 often enough.
yeah I'm enjoying jumping in and out of various aircraft/events, I really like the Martlet and the Hurricane...will do some more of those and maybe keep the careers going
If the Gladiator had some slightly more powerful armament, it would make a very effective straggler-slayer. Low stall speed means you can more easily match the slow speed of a struggling plane and keep on it to focus fire, as well as the high lift provided by the bi-wing design letting you pull away before you slam into the plane.
Apparently the weak armament was why it was withdrawn from service. In 1941 the RAF in the desert was chronically short of planes but the Glad's measly four guns made it a toothless tiger so hardly worth using. the Italian CR.42's twin 12.7mm on the other hand were more than up to chewing up Blenheims.
@@richardarcher7177 yeah. If those bottom wing guns were swapped to 12.7s or even 20mils then it probably would have been a decent little 'executioner'.
Why, I’m glad that us Aussies get a little bit of recognition. We’re oft forgotten. Great video Taff, as always!
Nice comment W Smith .. We always get hand me downs👍 👍

Same with us Canadians the colonies of the UK are often forgotten even though our major parts during the second and first world war
Clive Caldwell and Adrian Goldsmith to name but two.
0:50 Not only was Tobruk the largest port near Egypt, it was also notorious for having the laggiest ships this side of the Mediterranean.
It was so damn laggy that our ship ended up somewhere near the german hq

Keep uploading Cliffs of Dover and Desert Wings-Tobruk videos, especially Tobruk! The Desert War is criminally under portrayed in flight sims.
Intense video Taff. You’re just lucky that the F4F was designed to take a lot of punishment.
that was cool, more desert stuff please (and I love the Gladiator)
Half of the wing is missing.
Taff: "wingtip"
British sense of humour at its finest - 'tis but a scratch'.

Funnily enough, there was a called out on the radio, "ME One One Zero", just before it opened up on you. 3:44
Don’t know about safe and sound, what I’ve read about that area you most likely landed in a minefield 😆
Great story line. I like the external views. One of my favorite game squadrons to use is 805 FAA Martlets. Thumbs up. (467)
When I saw the thumbnail, I actually thought it was one of your vids for a second!
@@bentilbury2002 Thanks.... I do play this game but not as much as 1946.

The is like Tower defense; get the bombers before they drop their payload.

Nice landing you lucky bugger.........
Great to see a different theatre of war, with some great looking aircraft 👏 hope to see more please Taff, really looking good 👍🏴
Please note Taffy: You can enable human gunners to man your AAA guns for more realism... please ask on the forums how to do this.
Well done taff, you kept the landing gear safe and tucked up :)
Always entertaining. Keep em coming love your videos.
That was the smoothest landing I’ve seen my friend :)
Oh cool, wanted to see this game :)

Did you already try to get some help in ATAG forum?
Not much into details but some of the recent patches included joystick fixes and features.
Please, take a look on the ATAG forum, mate!
Awesome episode! I could watch more of this campaign. How do get the external views? Do you have a second computer to record?

The first comprehensive defeat of the German Army in a land confrontation in WWII was at the hands of the Aussies at Tobruk!!
you should get some practice against real online enemies 🤗
yeah its been a while since I used to fly online,
Great video. Seems more exciting for some reason than the Russian front
I keep wondering when (or if) they'll release a version of this game for the Pacific theater.
damm this looks amazing!
Terrific video of the Martlet and Gladiators attacking the Ju-88’s!
Excellent flying! What software to you use to turn these recordings into videos?
Desert campaign! Love it 😃
Glad your back in Desert wings but you need target practice.
except to a pow camp
Nice landing on a wing and a half. (No need of prayer, fortunately)
Looks like the Allies used remote controlled AAA,if you can believe that.
I won't lie. I miss Trofim.
Gladiator firing four .303s, "I can hardly do any damage!"
Martlet/Wildcat firing four .50s, "Hold my beer!"

Score 1 for the Bf 110 pilot! Let me guess - you checked 6, and thought the Bf 110 was another Ju 88?

Super good one today, loved it.
Great video!!!
The game looks pretty good except for the pitot tube on the Martlet... why is it so low-poly?
the team are upgrading the textures to 4k (work in Progress) so hopefully for it out
Taff! I got no notice of this from UTube, rather perturbed I am!!
🏴👍
hmm does surprise me tbh, youtube doesnt seem to like my channel any more, if you check the bell icon and see if the correct notifications are ticked
@@TaffinExile all that stuff is in order. 🤷🤷
good flight Taff!
This looked pretty damn fun, I'll have to look at Tobruk when it goes on sale.
Great video, I'd love to see more Tobruk. Really enjoyed the unexpected cut to the Aussie pilot!
F4f-3 is one of my top 3 favorite aircraft of all time. Thank you!!
I thought for a second Taff was flying a Vosper PT Boat XD
Great video would love to see this from the other side maybe with taff flying A JU88
If i could ask what is the martlets armament is it 4 or 6 50s
This variant only has four
Fantastic work. Did you have fun? Of all the things you have shown us, do you actually have a personal preference?

Did you build this mission Taff?
Would love a Hurricane/Spitfire series over the channel
