I came here to watch a documentary on DMB and instead I’m learning all they do outside of playing music. In true selfless fashion, this is all about someone else. Yet, I’ve learned more about them than I have ever known. Well played.

Seen them twice w/ Boyd, once w/o and they need another fiddler to be the old dmb but it was still really musical and great.

This band and every single member exudes positivity and good vibes. From the moment I first discovered them as an 11 year old I felt something from their music I hadn't ever felt before. I couldn't be sad or angry or in a bad mood whatsoever when I was listening to their music. Years went by and I continued listening religiously to the songs that shaped my formative years so painstakingly that they were no longer just songs, but each one started to take shape as a memory in my mind. I close my eyes and play a song and suddenly I'm 12 again dancing around my room with my sister, happy as a clam and oblivious to the problems of the world because life hadn't decided to steal away my innocence just yet.
As I grew older, my passion for seeing them time and time again in the hopes of hearing that one rare song they never play grew into obsession. 1 show during summer vacation turned into 4 the following summer. My friends and I would debate the coming setlist and throw in some hail mary rarities in the hopes we could manifest our dream setlist into reality. There honestly had always been something missing in my life and I never quite knew what it was. The friendships I made along the way and the memories made tailgating before every show and the phenomenal music that followed helped an outcast and downtrodden kid grow into a confident and joyous young man.
DMB had always seemed to be that band everyone loved to hate and I just couldn't figure out why. They did their own thing and every member was truly gifted with an innate ability to perform the hell out of their respective instruments and feed off of each other to the point that their chemistry with each other took over and began to usd them as vessels to play the music for them. I know this sounds cheesy and sappy and a bit romanticized poetry, but I don't know how else to describe the effect they had on my life in my late teens and early 20's. They were the thing I needed to get by and enjoy life at the exact time I needed it the most and I have no shame in that. I got to see a great band over 25 times in my life and 12 of those were with the great LeRoi Moore. The raw emotion and passion that he played with was transcendent really and if you can't understand what I mean, go check out the live performance of #41 from the Listener Supported cd/dvd and tell me you aren't transported somewhere else at some point during one of, in my opinion, the most incredibly powerful saxophone performances of all time.
I'm not sure why, but I don't really listen to them anymore... Once I began writing my own music and combing the depths of the internet for new and original bands I realized that I had been focusing on one band almost exclusively for a long, long time. I don't regret that at all, but the seemingly infinite world of music that I had yet to discover beckoned me further and further away. I can't remember the last time I actively listened to a DMB song myself that wasn't just playing already somewhere I happened be. I don't dislike them now though, nor could I ever dislike them. I just developed a style in my own music once I found my voice and it was unfortunately nowhere near that particularly genre. However, I have slowly been getting better at the guitar and songwriting over the years and newfound likes and obsessions have brought me back to a place in which the band that once inhabited almost every single thought I would have during the day is becoming a nostalgic necessity. As life grinded me down and wore me out and I felt as though I was spread so thin I could snap at any moment, the band that I discovered at that perfect time in my youth is suddenly becoming that band that I rediscovered at that perfect moment in adult life that allows me a respite, no matter how fleeting, from the chaos around me. It has all come full circle and those synaptic wildfires of memories that consume me with each old song I listen to allows an elusive smile to creep across my face and in that moment I am able to find some semblance of catharsis and this has made all the difference as of late.
I am sure many of you didn't even read all of this and many of you won't, but you should know that I had originally only intended to write a few sentences about what the band meant to me and I guess this is where my heart took me. I began to reminisce and sometimes you can get caught up in happy memories and get a little carried away. Is that such a bad thing though? I don't think that it is. If someone wants to share with me something that they are passionate about and they go on and on about it, I will listen and be interested in what they have to say because all we really want as humans is someone who will indulge us as we nerd out about what interests us. I'm boiling down the entirety of human existence into shared interest conversation, but obviously there is more to it than that. I just feel like indulging someone and letting them talk about the thing they love that no one ever wants to hear about is a good start in the right direction. And to the many who will undoubtedly poke fun at me and troll me for this novel of a comment, you should try and remember that putting down those who can admire the beauty in life when surrounded by darkness to make yourself laugh is the opiate of the broken child. Everyone is capable of happiness, but achieving it is the journey many are unwilling to make. It is always going to be easier to be complacent and stay where you are, but why not try something new? Who knows, you might actually enjoy yourself along the way!

Back in the '90s, our little local band(out of Roanoke/Lynchburg) would play at Maxx, and Traxx was right next door. We would sneak through the kitchen to hear the bands next door, as they would do the same to hear us. Of course we saw DMB and lots of other, soon to be famous groups(Hootie, Alice In Chains} before they were famous. Also a movie starring John Cusak was shot in the area. We had to move our ugly old band truck so they could film outside. Afterwards..........a lot of the movie people came in and partied hard. We never got famous or went far, but what a time to be alive and playing music in Charlottesville VA.

Through some tough years, this band has simply grown as a result and are better today that they were 10-20 years ago. I’ve been a band since Under The Table and as far as I’m concerned, they’ve never had a high point, a peak. It’s been a steady growth through consistency, something that not all bands can attest to. And as the diehards know, though their studio albums are fantastic, it’s their live show that truly sets them apart. They’re one of the last big bands that don’t have a pre-planned setlist. It’s chosen just before each show and often changes as the show goes on. Sounds simple enough but it’s a rarity. If you get a chance to see them live, whether you’re a fan or not, I promise you’ll be amazed. I have mad love for Dave and his crew and will continue to see them play as long as they continue to play.

A true, real life, passionate and caring group of musicians. I became an instant fan when "Crash" came out as a CD, and used it while getting ready to go party at night, dancing and singing my lungs out at the same time lol. The Dave Matthews Band has set the bar for other musical groups to follow....giving back, to the people who have less than some do, and being part of a community, not seeing color of one's skin, but the person, the human inside. Few musicians and/or celebrities have kept a sense of right and wrong in society, but Dave and his band have stayed humbled and genuine, and true to the idea that ALL people are equal, when govt's try to force a different viewpoint and ideology on us. I've been exposed to a lot of celebrities during my life, with my Dad owning the largest nightclub in Florida for a few years, and him being a concert promoter, I met more than the average 11-14 year old could ever dream of, even meeting Jimi Hendrix once at a weekend show he wasn't billed at. He had a layover or missed his flight, heard about our show, and came in with strict instructions that his presence wasn't to be announced, or given away. He just wanted a day without all the hype and celeb bs if clawing fans...a day where he could just be himself for a day. I see a lot of that in Dave, and the rest of the band. They've grown, had their ups and downs, but have always stayed true to the music, the fans, and paying it forward. Thanks Dave for some awesome memories in my past, and look forward to your future!!😎👍💙

    All my ♥️ for DMB.
It’s hard to hear Boyd’s violin in so many of these clips... that’s pure DMB sound, with the Roy as well. The most beautiful group of amazing artists. I miss that violin so bad! I miss Roy so bad!
Jeff is incredible on the sax and as a ‘91-current fan, having these new members on sax , Rashawn on trumpet(!!!) and now B. Strong (who can sing beautifully, too!!!), it’s just such a blessing! Love Jeff and Rashawn! Together, you are AMAZING, and you are both true DMB! Thank you for dedicating your talents to this powerhouse! ♥️♥️♥️🎺🎷
Just saw them in West Valley City, UT., and what a show!!! It felt so good seeing these men again, like spending an evening with loved ones that mean SO SO MUCH (too much) to me/us. Stephan and Carter- ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
    ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️LOVE YOU, DMB!!!
Please keep going! I want my young boys to see you next year- they love you as their band, not just Dad’s band.
Come see your fans in Boise, ID.
Dave- wish you and yours all the best of what’s around! Your music helped me take courage in the most difficult times and challenges of my life. You ended the 08/27/2019 concert with the encore performance of Don’t Drink the Water. That is my “battle-cry, war song”, and I play it loud before every time I go to court to defend justice in my profession, and it helps get me focused on fighting the good fight!
Virgin in the Rain is my favorite off of Come Tomorrow. Beautiful. Sounds reminiscent of Before These Crowded Streets... ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
    THANK YOU, DMB!!!

Buddy has brought a new vibe to the band and the band love him and as well as the fans (me included!)........but without the violin, there is just this huge hole. It is part of what made DMB unique. I still love them like not other........but that missing violin makes my heart hurt a little sometimes.

@@shonelmer7494 honestly, buddy is doing an amazing job musically as well. We miss the violin, but also Boyd Tinsley as a person. I know he may have screwed things, but he have been always a part of the band you know?

11 concerts so far.. Getting older so its harder to travel these days but Columbus OH 2016 was the last concert of theirs I was at and its probably one of the top 3 shows I've seen of theirs and what a set list it was.. All it was missing was ants marching but overall was fantabulous... Much love to DMB

IT’s September 2023 and while I haven’t been to a live show in 5 years, I have attended 77 DMB and Dave and Tim shows. The band is ultra professional these days and rarely churns out a lackluster performance. That being said, I feel incredibly blessed to have seen the band with both Boyd Tinsley and LeRoi Moore, the original lineup. From 1994 to the death of LeRoi I spent every year seeing the band and Dave and Tim as much as I possibly could. I used to sell large quantities of Marijuana from Canada in the late 1990s and early 2000s. It afforded me the time and money to basically tour up and down the East Coast. I still held on to bar tending gigs as well. I was often was blessed to be able to buy tickets for my girlfriend, now my wife, as well as several friends over the years. Nothing better than taking someone to their first show. My 50th show was at Hershey, PA (arguably my least favorite venue ever). As much as I hated the venue that show was not just my 50th but my daughters first. She was only about 9 or 10. But an experience I’ll never forget.
