Literally no bells and whistles or a decent microphone I mean can't this guy afford a microphone why is he talkin through a 999 a piece of crap headset
It’s amazing listening to Dave talk because after 43 shows since 2009, I’ve only seen the “silly stage Dave”. So it’s surreal seeing him be normal. This is dope.
Team QLS - please please please provide high quality podcasting equipment to the broadcast team if you aren't going to be back in the studio again. You've been on the air for over 7 years and doing the remote thing for over 3 and at this point in a podcasting career high quality audio is a bare minimum. Earpods mics and spotty Wi-Fi doesn't cut it anymore for a professional award winning show.
Just loved this, so many interesting questions! Questlove, you all seemed surprised when Dave talked about being an artist. He’s so humble and didn’t mention he did all of the cover art on Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King, including the lettering of the lyrics. You should check that out! Take care
Big Dave fan here and this whole setup was awesome. Some really good questions asked. It’s like we are getting to know Dave a little better. Great job by everyone!
This video made my day much much brighter. The way you all interact makes it feel like I’m in the room watching in person. Thank you for all you do Roots & Dave. You all make the world a better place❤️
I just found this Channel today and I got to say I was more entertained in the first five minutes than any other videos I've ever watched! Thank you nice did I found you guys and that I can actually sit here with some like-minded people who make sense! Many blessings
I saw 3 bands I saw twice or more in concert in 2022: The Roots, Phish, and Dave Matthews Band. Absolutely enjoyed this conversation and some of the awesome stories Dave shared!
The point being made at about 48 minutes into the video is why I like his songs. That beautiful moment when the melody changes- might be the chorus or the bridge or somewhere else- that’s what I like in this music.
I usually see Dave at MSG in Nov or Dec, but he is not having a show because he will be home. I can't miss Dave in the winter, so, I am going to see Dave in South Africa, Capetown, in December 2023. I am excited!!!
It's honestly ridiculous. Dave mentions that it took them time to set this up. If Questlove is hosting a podcast on a regular basis, has a band that plays to thousands, is on TV regularly, and the rest of his crew is professional, what happened to him? Also, I feel that Questlove brings everything back to himself and was a bit awkward at times instead of following a thought-train to its conclusion. The non sequitur to peanut butter was daft.
I love Dave, but this interview is borderline unwatchable and cringy with the audio set up and the awkwardness of it all. You’d think this was done during quarantine! Absolutely absurd…
13:46 What’s funny is fans did “hack” into their IEM mixes and I remember how hysterical it was listening to the crazy stuff they’d say to each other during shows. Those recordings were very popular back in the early 2000s.
@@m.t.426 Dave’s been doing watchtower for over 30 years. It’s funny, when I hear Dylan sing it, it sounds great, when Jimi sang it, it sounded Freakin Amazing and when Dave does it, it also sounds amazing. It’s like they all know the secret ingredient for the recipe of that song.
As an individual who fell the very first time I saw DMB at the Gorge last year....i am clumsy (fumbleitus I call it) and also a FLAAAATlander (central KS) and wasnt used to the slight hill in the pit while being slightly intoxicated, I took that comment about someone falling in the audience personally. 😅
In Camden..we got moved up to 10-13 row. Something super close. Saw Norah jones open for dmb. I’m skinny in between 2 fat guys, they were dancing n I’m basically a bean pole getting bumped. Dave turned to Carter making fun of my dance. I was stiff swaying bc I couldn’t move. They all looked at us n laughed. I said YO they r making fun of us to my buddy. It was great
So funny Dave talking about his jobs... when I first started to listen to him, a friend of mine said his friend was such a fan she stole his work application from the Charlottesville restaurant 😮
Really enjoyed this but can we please be better than a headphone wire mic pinched between the fingers? Audio/production quality is wildly low for this quality of peoples.
I can’t remember the last time DMB had openers on the full tour. Aside from the Gorge and Rivera Maya, I don’t think I’ve been to a DMB show in years that had an opening act.
That’s the best when dave in-between songs…. He says the most funniest/deep shit. I always try to record but I’m always too slow … I fuck it up. 🤷🏻♀️😂
Phish is the most underrated band DMB is the jazz band everyone loves because they have radio songs DWD and Heavy Things are Phishs only songs on the radio for ten months or so I loved Come Tomorrow that album was all great lyrically and all about sex and very good musically as well best since Before These Crowded Streets a daunting statement but walk around the Moon on my first 3 listens is just not as good sorry to be the voice of truth and glass half empty but it is like the song Typical Situation or Seek Up a sad song and album
Weellll ssshhhiiii*** Questlove?!? I think I took your parking spot at the amphitheater parking lot in Knoxville TN back in 2001… but it might have been the Roots. I dunno… good show anyway 😅
I like the podcast, however…. if questlove could use an upgraded mic… no shade. It just hurts my ears when decibels go up. Its kinda grating. It’s good to have a little compression for buffer. Just throwing that out there
Maybe my Internet connection is bad right now for the first time in a long time, but this is hard to watch because the production value is so low. It's hard to get into when it seems like it's ten years old, glitchy, etc
Dave, it would be so freakin cool if you played one of my mashups (with Tim) live, "Playing #41 to God" or "Grey GOAT Street". You might have never heard of them, but I took Polyphia tunes as the instrumental for #41 and Grey Street. Not their studio recordings, but the ones I put together consist of acoustic, violin, and bass!
Dave Matthews Band..most under appreciated band on the planet. So so amazing!
100%. Terrible that they hit mainstream so early. Musicians know DMB's insane talent.
How do you consider a band that made more money touring than any other band for like a decade straight, under appreciated?

Dave is legend. The black dude, never heard of him except the time he played that jingle on Fallon to go get your booster.

Dave Matthews Band created a genre of its own!
They sure did! God's vagina is what it shld be called! Or why I Am!

Roots and DMB together in 2007 was pure niceness 👌
The point being made at about 48 minutes into the video is why I like his songs. That beautiful moment when the melody changes- might be the chorus or the bridge or somewhere else- that’s what I like in this music.
The chorus from 'The Only Thing' from their new album just came to mind. Well said!

Good questions asked here. Dave is the man...
SO much love and respect. Thanks for this

Hey Bulldog was always one of my favorites too!
He just played with the Dead and Co in Boulder doing his version of All Along the Watchtower

This is spectacular. I've seen this man and his band well over 150 times since 1996. They are the best of the best.
Agreed
