P.S. I always like to buy open stock pencils, because then I can buy exactly what I like. I know that there will be a lot of pencils in a set that I wouldn’t use, and that feels a bit wasteful to me. The only set I’ve ever bought are the Derwent drawing pencils! And this is because I knew I would love every colour in there, due to the fact that they are muted and natural colours.
I have been so excited for this one! I just ordered several Derwent pencils and I love the colors in the small Derwent Drawing set I got. I’m looking forward to watching!
@@kriksis I'm going to try a few of the muted colors of the Colorsoft pencils. They look so creamy and blended when swatched! I need to figure out how to set up color stories though. I'll have to check and see if you have a video on that! :)
@@kriksis Sorry, I mean different color palettes for different moods! :) I have my favorite colors but I don't know if I should branch out and try something more bold.
@@LMuse9 Ouh, I understand now! :) I actually haven't created video about this! But in general usually for colour palettes there are some favourites and some colours that go together with them and the theme of drawing. :))
I Love yr swatches and yr tiny colour pencils too :-) The smaller I have is 8cm but I have it for 20 years:-) Good way to organise them, looks easier to see the differences between nuances and textures. Some of yrs colours are so intense! They almost look like felt pen on my screen. I think it’s yr Prismacolors. I rather buy colours I’m interested in which are not often included in set. C.d’ache Luminance & Holbein are my favorite because they are soft. Now I very interested to try the Derwent and the Prismacolor. Thank you also for explaining the difference between the brands, it is very useful!
Thank you so much Cristina! :) Yes, I feel putting all pencils swatches in one place is great as a reference and can help to decide which colours to use for that particular project. :) Yes, I agree about open stock! I wish I only had open stock actually! (Except for my Derwent drawing set) I like Holbein texture too! I think Prismacolor texture is similar to it! :)
Love the swatches. I actually started a swatch book after seeing yours :) I probably have even more pencil than you, I’ve been “collecting” for years… I used to buy sets more in the past because I didn’t have access to some open stock and there colours I don’t really use but that’s ok. Now I do build my collection a few at a time open stock.
Hello Carol! Your comment made me smile! Im so happy you started using swatch book and you like it! :) Yes, I have similar problem with sets! By the way super curious - which colours you don't use in your work?
@@kriksis funny, I think it’s the type of colours you like a lot, all the browns and beiges. I always get attracted by more vibrant colours and high contrast like turquoise and red or red orange and blue. I do love how you use them though :)
Thank you Sigun! I got few suggestions in the comments from one video before this one -Top 10 colour video. But basically there are options to buy some from Ebay/ Amazon. Then there is Peter's Art Berlin place that sells Prismacolors in open stock. German shop. And small shop in the uk that sells individual Prismacolors, Rainbow Fine Art Pencils. I hope this is helpful!
Thank you for this relaxing video, it was nice to see your collection. I also admire your dedication to swatch all the colors for us 😅 I’m curious, do you prefer Prismacolor or Derwent Coloursoft?
Thank you for watching! :) Haha, yes, I swatched them twice. :D If I had to choose, I think Prismacolor has little bit smoother texture? But I love Derwent too. :D
I reckon you and Natasha Newton should get together and come up with a water colour, palette a coloured pencil palette and a gouache palette, because you both have such a beautiful tasting colours I would buy both
I started out buying smaller sets (cheaper than singles, and I didn't have access to an art supply store beyond places like WalMart in the small, midwest town I was in), and now...well...uh...I tend to buy BIG sets. Like, ALL the colors. Which would be fine if it was just one brand, but nope. My weird Inner Art Supply Hoarder™ is just not happy unless the set's complete. I've ended up with some stinkers as a result -- things that just don't work for me and my needs -- but generally speaking, I kind of love all my pencil children for their own unique qualities. (And I do use them all, really. Just not as much as I probably should.) (And I do this with all the art supplies I like. We will not mention my watercolor obsession, because I'm flat-out ashamed of how much time, effort, and money I put into that....when I'm not even a really big watercolorist. ::facepalm::)
p.s. I hope this doesn't come across as a humblebraggy Look At All The Art Supplies I Have! kind of thing. It really is sort of a compulsion and I wish I could edit myself a little better, but I'm afraid I'll miss out on the one color that would be the Most Perfect Color Ever and will transform my chicken-scratch-like sketches into Gaspingly Beautiful Artworks. I should probably find professional help. :D)
Hello Elizabeth! First of all it doesn't sound ''humblebraggy'' it actually sounds relatable! I feel a lot of artists can relate what you wrote up here! I sometimes also feel that I have too much art supplies from various mediums and well... I do but this is what I like to do, and this is my profession, hobby, passion and if you are happy creating its fine too! :) We also go trough different art supplies stages, so that's why sometimes there unused mediums, but maybe we will come back to that! In your case watercolours may be on pause, but you may return to them at some point. And about the sets - well it seems you haven't had a choice at some points, so its only reasonable to go with that! All the best to you Elizabeth!

Hello Natasha!
That’s a great idea! 🧡
I love seeing which colours you use the most as they are almost gone; little nibs of pencil left 😄❤️
Haha, thanks Paula, you are detective. :D :)
