Gentle suggestion: Reinforce the bottom of your wooden shelves with metal bars. My teak shelves collapsed in the middle of the night, scaring the heck out of me! The shelves never appeared bowed prior to the disaster... lesson learned!
It's not hard to reach into the thousands of pencils and markers when you're a collector. I've has FSS with my markers and pencils for almost 15 years. I do indeed use them all - it just depends on the project. I was blessed for my birthday thanks to my daughters, mother and hubby you all got me Amazon gift cards for the last set I've wanted - the Polychromos and Albrecht Dürer. I'd been saving by loading my Amazon account in small amounts for a year...a tip for those who like me save up a little at a time.
You have such wonderful, extensive supplies and I know that you are constantly reviewing so we don't make too many mistakes by buying supplies that aren't good quality. You keep us from being frustrated and aggravated because you show and demonstrateThe differences Thanks for showing us the most well made supplies. It is a shame that others don't use your many supplies also. If you had in person classes, you could have other people use these materials. I know that you usually have people win new things, but you could have people win some of the slightly used items. I know these ore one you are keeping but when you do donate - pencils , markers , etc, you could give some to art teachers or any supplies that would be good for little kids to k or pre- k teachers. (Probably not most pencils for K and pre-K but some types of water based markers for them.) Both public and private school teachers would be very grateful. Also, some churches collect things to send to children in 3rd word countries right before Christmas as a part Operation Christmas Child done through Samaritan's Purse. You may already donate many things, but I was just thinking about that.
I don't have a lot of room, and I like to play with all kinds of mediums...watercolor, colored pencil, acrylic paint, pastels, etc. etc. So when i upgrade my supplies, I always donate my barely used student grade supplies, and even some better ones that I know I'm not going to be using anymore (like alcohol markers, I just don't like them.) The school is always happy to get them, and I will also give to a couple of thrift stores in my area because I know when I was young and broke, I would have loved to be able to buy art supplies for next to nothing. It keeps the things I use handy and keeps me from being a hoarder, err, collector. lol
What comes immediately to mind is how to organize coloring books, printed coloring pages, and paper. I have coloring books I bought 30 years ago and some i bought yesterday and everything in between. I buy reams of paper for different uses. And I print out coloring pages for the kids when they visit. Its time to put it together.
I so appreciate your organization tips. My most expensive set is a fairly small amount of Prismacolors, maybe 30 or so. I also have student grade colors, Crayola, Mead, Kodak, Pedgree, Fisher Price, etc. Yes, I've been holding onto sets from the '80s and '90s when I would buy sets for my children for school and a set for myself to play with. I am more interested in colored pencils because I use them in my craft/art-based micro business. I'm making all occasion cards for sale, I've done some invitations for a wedding and I'm doing an order for 100 invitation cards for a pastor. I love the Prismacolors for ease of use but I do not enjoy the bloom... If I win the set, I will put them to good use to further my work. Thank you so much, Jennifer and Steve, for the giveaways you do and for this one. I am sure they are a blessing to the recipients. I send my congratulations to whoever wins! May the pencils be used in good health!
I have changed the way I store my (big) collection. First I bought the biggest case I could find (or affort) and place multiple brands in 1 case. Then when I would like to coloring I have to lift a very, very very heavy case and al those zippers drove me mad. So I decided to buy a case for every single brand and organise them in seperete in a case or keep them in the tin they come (if the tin is nice and functional) This is so much easier to handle when I am coloring. Yes it takes a lot more space then 1 big case
I developed a wonderful collection of supplies because I wanted my students to have access to supplies they could not afford. Now retired, I am donating to a Maker Space classroom and various art spaces. I am lucky to have an arts/craft thrift store and they take every type of art supply! Thank you for great organizing ideas.
I really agree about the difference between being a hoarder and being a curator . Isn’t it a wonderful feeling to have them organised ; makes life so much easier . Thanks for a fun video ! I’m in Canada so can’t enter your draw 🇨🇦🙂
I've only been coloring for about 2 years, and I already have nearly 2000 pencils! It really isn't hard to do once you fall in love with colored pencils and pencil art! Lol 💕
Love your collection! I have a collection too but not as big as yours. How fun!! It's your passion and it's your job (which you love). I love this!! Coloring helps my anxiety. It's so relaxing for me to turn off everything going on in the world and focus on something I enjoy. I have been collecting for 10 years and watching for your videos for A VERY LONG TIME! I've learned lots from you and I appreciate your channel!! Thanks to you and your husband for being so supportive. This is great for those of us who want to learn more about this art.
I love how you keep every set of colored pencils categorized and organize as well I would to purchase the primacolor pencils guide book these were my first set of colored pencils they're still my first love do you have one on the Crayola set? Steve and you both have bless us with some many resources I thank you both so very much❤️❤️❤️❤️
Wow! Thanks for sharing. I really love your catalog of pencils really great idea. I think once I got that many organized and categorized the hardest thing would be to decide on which pencils to use on a project! BTW Love the term pencil “Curator” 🤗💜
I love your organization! I'm an organizer, too. My current art area doesn't really allow me to organize the way I'd like, but maybe one of these days! Rose is such a sweetie. I know she is a blessing to you and your family.
Oh, another tip: when I'm working on a page I end up pulling so many pencils out of their pencil case and then figuring out the order to put them back is frustrating. And I dont want to write directly on the pencil case interior, because I may mess up or I may change cases. So I use a long strip of white medical tape, put one on the left side of the pencil andthrite the pencil number next to each pencil/elastic pencil holder and another long strip on the right side to write the name next to each pencil/elastic. It works great!
I border on FSS. Hahahaha. I keep my arts and crafts supplies in my guest/art room in its clothes closet, the semi large dresser, and adjacent desk. I usually have so many projects going on that I separate the supplies out per project in small matching plastic covered containers or plastic glasses. So I actually had to buy a second full large complete set of Prismacolor colored pencils so that I don’t have to dip into my other projects as much. But I still do because I have found that I tend to use nearly every color of my colored pencils in my projects I’m working on. When I first started out, I remember thinking how in the world do these artists use so many pencils per project? Now I know. Hahahaha. I also bought the full set of Prismacolor markers when they were pretty new on the market. So every now and again I feel the need to add to them the new colors that come out though I by no means really need them. I don’t have all of them but would so enjoy…just having them🤪. I’m disappointed that Prismacolor doesn’t have a set of metallics and oil pastels and a large full set of watercolor pencils to match the colored pencils. But I have supplemented with other brands though I did buy their erasable colored pencils and art stix to help out with my projects. And since I just had to have a full watercolor pencil set that matched the colored pencils, I bought the full large set of Faber Castell watercolor pencils and their colored pencils along with some soft pastels. Ahahahaha. Then, in order to have under paintings for the colored pencils, I bought watercolors from other brands that go nicely with them. So again, I do tend toward FSS, but my budget and available products dictate getting creative. What I’d really enjoy having are Holbein’s colored pencils, especially the pastel colored pencils, and of course Luminance colored pencils; but I just can’t justify the price since I do not sell my pieces and thus am not a professional. I deal with the bloom of the Prismacolor pencils by using OMS or colorless alcohol markers and find that, when I mix Prisma with the Faber Castell pencils, the piece tends to look pretty darned good though I know it doesn’t have that guarantee of the colors holding up over a long period of time. But since I do not display them, I’m not really worried about the colors fading out. I have other art supplies like acrylics with lots of brushes and canvases. But they are secondary. I found I tend to “curate” markers and charcoal and graphite and gel pens and mass erasers all for drawing out the subjects I color…along with appropriate paper for the projects, too, and easels and self healing mats and light boxes and glitter and glitter markers and so on. However, I mainly work with colored pencils in grownup (adult sounds kind of on the inappropriate side of things) coloring books while using oil pastels to cover large areas and markers and watercolor for the under paintings so as not to have all of those little white specs showing through. Anyway, that’s why I have to use the dresser and the closet and the desk to store my supplies. You wouldn’t think so much was necessary just to create a piece of artwork, but it really is for convenience and simplifying a project. So the FSS for me is mainly just getting convenient supplies that aid in my colored pencil work. For example, I would love to get a light projector of some kind for copying my work onto canvases in order to paint them and an airbrush set for painting them along with a mega-large colored laser printer and foil tools and supplies and so on. But again, it’s really not all necessary since it’s not a business or anything. And honestly, I’m still learning so much from so many wonderful channels on UA-cam such as your own that it does seem overkill at this point. So anyway, I know what you mean about FSS, but it’s not too serious for me yet as a result of budget constraints whereas that might not be a constraint for many such as yourself because of the type of channel and business you have, which I so appreciate and enjoy. So…have fun with that. I know I enjoy watching your fun expression of FSS🤣.
Love the way you are so organized with your pencils. Unfortunately, I don't even know how to put pencils in basic color family order, or how to tell when a color is hot or cold. For instance, I was taught that yellow, orange and red are warm and Green, Blue and purples are all cool colors. Now told, not necessarily so. How does one know whether or not a red is hot or cold, or a blue or green or purple is warm or cool? Please, I would like to know what the color names and numbers are of the new Lavendar colors that replaced the discontinued ones in the Prismacolor Premier Colored pencil 150 set so that I can buy them.
We all understand FFS! I just saw a new Marco Tribute Masters Collection, theres 80 pencils and are so wonderfully packaged, so I have to get them. Theres no question, I have to! Will I use them? No idea! Haha!
You never disappoint I always always always learn something new every time I watch one of your videos💯🫶🏼🥰 I love how you explained the difference between hoarding and being a curated collector🥰🙏🏼 after watching this I told my best friend/roommate the same thing 🤭🤭 I told him I'm a curated collector not a hoarder🤭🤭 I love this whole organization system I'm going to create a Color Pencil inventory log like you did💯🎨 that will come in so handy💯🥰 thanx for sharing your process this is getting saved so i can use it as reference and I'm going to check out the Prisma Book as well🎨🌈thank you as always🙏🏼🫶🏼..... I appreciate you for everything you do and for this amazing channel as well have a blessed day 💯🙏🏼🫶🏼🥰🌸🩵💜💛🤎🩶🧡💚🖤💙🤍❤️
What an amazing range of coloring supplies! I have Faber Castel Polychromos 120 set, Albrecht Durer Watercolor 120 set, and Derwent Inktense 72 set. Also having FSS (full set syndrome) the gnawing for the new 28 Inktense colors has me on the edge of insanity. I need a list of Only the New colors so I can order them from Blick's website open stock. I also have a nice selection of gel pens. I pretty much have my dream choices of supplies. I'm on the fence about alcohol markers though and brand. Thanks so very much for your time and information in your videos. All of them are jam packed with so much helpful and great stuff!
I tried alcohol markers - and alcohol ink, and gave them away. The fumes sickened me - even with ventilation! If you are at all sensitive to odors, don't buy alcohol based items. Plus, there are so many other media to choose.....
Beautiful video Jennifer I’ve been collecting for about 10 years too with artist grade pencils and a few budget friendly pencils.. I like the app u use but i couldn’t find it in to scared 😱 to count my collection.. I use to work in a newsagent shop I sold stationery so my love for colouring pencils pens markers ect happened before I started colouring in..
I agree about colour... I have way too many of everything, but having so much colour is very emergizing and FSS is something I have too lol... Your chaos corner looks much like my bed room lol... It's my art room too... Trying to sort out the chaos is fun, but I keep finding stuff that side tracks me far too much ... I love your system, but I am not very organised in my mind... Hoping your system will inspire me to sort my art as I am not a hoarder either but a collector... You are so very inpsiring...
Hi Jennifer-I want to thank you for your organizational tips. I follow your Prisma plan and it works well. Being organized is motivating. I want to use my tools more often when I know what I have and where to find it. Over 7thousand? I can only dream. Another FSS member😂

My 2 color pencil brands that I would like a full set(s) of are Prisma color and fabercastel. The other brands I would like to have short sets of. My condo is 700 sq ft. I have two shelving units I put my pencils and coloring books on

Hi Jennifer & Steve, allways great to join you for interesting, fun and useful ideas!
Thank you very much I really needed help with organisation.
Great information & ideas. Makes me feel like I can control my limited supply! Thanks ❤
Hello everyone! Good to see how you organize the pencils. Gave me some ideas. Thank you.

Polychromos for my Portraits
The dangers of colored pencils is that they don’t go bad so it’s easy to have so many without thinking about consequences. 😮
Whereas pens and markers don’t have the same longevity.
Unfortunately color pencils can go bad, they can dry out and crack. I’ve had it happen old pencils are weaker as well
wow really Kool dear 💖
Maybe the easiest question for you would be 'What brand don't you own". LOL😊
It's hard to fight the urge to try a new set of pencils. I'm fighting that urge now. I don't need them by faŕ, but I want them to try. Lol
My 2 color pencil brands that I would like a full set(s) of are Prisma color and fabercastel. The other brands I would like to have short sets of. My condo is 700 sq ft. I have two shelving units I put my pencils and coloring books on
I got my entries in. Yayyyy
