It's hilarious how as we get older we go back to basic cars for fun. I also drove very expensive cars before I ended up with a GR86 and an Integra Type S which is basically the same thing as this video. Very similar mods too! I'm on the verge of adding forced induction to the GR86. Still deciding if I should turbo the GR86 as I may "disturb" the original GR setup. I'm going to enjoy them unless I fall in love with the new MB CLE53 AMG or wait for the 63!
hahaha, that's cool. I personally don't like adding forced induction to NA engines but that's just my preference. I'm sure the GR at your local track is as fun as it would be FI!
Turbo it. For 8 or 9k you get a whole kit with injectors and everything you need and a turbo rated for 750 hp do you can run low boost and have a good quick spooling 400 hp
@Coolmaninmotion if you're running a turbo or supercharger your probably going to need to use a downpipe for good airflow. I would get a xforce valved exhaust system so it's not a obnoxious fart can and has a very good flat 4 note. It's also pretty reliable. Stock motor is bulletproof and people running low psi setups have no problems. Some have gone to 700 whp on stock motor with no problems somehow. Time will tell. You could go above and beyond and buy HKS forged pistons rods crankshaft and block. But low psi you should be fine

Like @Sub2club said. GR86 is on SPL Arms, while the FL5 is on RV6 Arms. The SPL 86/gr86 rear lower arm is known for being a weak spot, The person I sold my rear lower arms to so happen to snap the arm at his first track day on them, SPL did get him new updated arms that is supposed to be stronger. The RV6 arms is used by HRC and made of steel (SPL is aluminum) so I doubt they will fail.
I have s2000 and FK8. If you can only have one car between GR86 or FL5....it would be the GR86....and save the rest of the money for something else better in our lifetime. New Type R's are too big, and lack the same feel as the 90's 2000's fun cars. GR86 is as good as it gets for now , despite having engine weakness.
@AztkSmooth, nothing wrong with that. Like vacation destinations, cars are experiences for a lot of us. Nothing wrong trying new experiences. Enjoy the journey and happy motoring!
@sub2club love your choices! I watched to hear about your story and your rides. I literally had planned to buy those exact cars including the color. Um what? Not sure about his comment on heel toe where he doesn't think you have to match the RPMs and having the car's "momentum pull RPM where it needs to be...". That's not correct.
maybe if you're just driving around like normal to avoid lurching, but the fastest drivers on tsukuba in these cars, including nobuteru taniguchi, allow a bit of clutch drag on each downshift.
lol. ok god tier racer. there's a reason why "slip" clutch is pro and why people upgrade clutches to withstand abuse. go watch any pro manual drivers in motorsports. they drag the clutch a bit.
@@apex_gr lol what. LMAO. I've seen plenty of footwell footage during pro races in manual cars. Every one of them properly blip the throttle. GTFO with your bullshit.
@@Cichlid_Visuals If you're "driving around like normal", there's no real need to heel and toe. It makes more sense when you're decelerating from high speed to do heel toe.
@@apex_gr if you're drag the clutch while trying to decelerate fast, you're gonna jerk the car and disrupt balance. There's a reason why you're supposed to rev match...to match the revs for the next gear down. I don't need to be a god tier racer to understand this. Go watch more in car footage of race drivers. You'll see how they all blip enough to not cause that lurching. It's a smooth heel toe - rev match - downshift as they approach a corner. And they upgrade clutches because they're racing with high horsepower cars. Clutches just simply wear out faster, not because they're purposely dragging the clutch. SMH.
