    With Aomway (like with Fatshark), support isn't limited to the retailer you bought them from. I got my Commanders (V1) from Banggood was experiencing a weird video issue (ultimately my fault), and while Banggood was willing to throw some money at the problem, I really wanted a solution since getting a pair took so long. Reaching out to Aomway customer support directly I had a response and a solution in less then 24 hours. The narrative that all Chinese manufacturers are unresponsive is tired and no longer accurate.
    Also, a skipped major feature is the built in OSD that comes with the Commanders to monitor channel, brightness, contrast, and DVR access (playback after a crash has been a huge help). Allows extra capability, and even for the things Fatsharks can do it beats the pants off listening for different beeps and counting.
    Feel on your face is a legitimate, albeit subjective, concern that will vary from person to person because faces are different shapes, but if you get a chance to try on a pair of Commanders and like the way they feel as much as I do, their technical superiority eats Fatsharks lunch.

      DigitalOsmosis I tried emailing with Aomway and after 5 messages I gave up. Then they came online on rcgroups.com and I sent them 2 pm's still not a word.
      So maybe I'll just get some Fatsharks, though I don't like having to buy a separate diversity module.

      Jasper I guess millage may vary, and maybe I was just lucky. I did this back with the V1s right as they were taking off in popularity, so they might be a lot more busy now. I just wanted to share my story since my experience was so different then the normal narrative.

      "The narrative that all Chinese manufacturers are unresponsive is tired and no longer accurate."
      Fatshark is chinese and so is TBS. Even if the bosses came from outside, they live and produce there.
      And also at Fatshark they do have bad days. Mine came faulty, too. Sure, their support is a big winner!

      100% agree. I had an issue with an Aomway TX01 switcher vtx. I'd bought it as a spare so it was over 30 days before I tried it. The retailer said tough. I contacted Aomway directly and they replaced it along with offering a discount on any other items of theirs I wanted as well.

    Fairly simple, easy to follow comparison, but some major things were missed. How's the close range reception - removing the diversity from the equation. The loose pid adjuster on aomway? The awesome osd? The lipo differences? Feel on the head?

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  7 років тому

      +chapinb18 close range reception: I said if you were racing close in then the diversity might not matter. Loose IPD adjuster: I spoke to the superior build quality of the Fatshark. OSD: I mentioned it but said I personally prefer the module display which shows more information. Feel on the head: everyone's head is different so that is a wash.
      The goal of this video is to boil it down and help people make a decision. If they want every single detail they can watch the individual reviews.

    Hey Joshua, great review. my question is this- the Fatshark is sold now for $250 and the true D diversity for the attitude v4 is sold for $80. the Aomway is sold for $290. so its $330 for attitude v4 and $290 for Aomway- which one of those you would choose? i had some problems with my eachine ev100 (yes i know, i shouldnt have bought them) and im looking for something else- which one would you pick?

  • @zeebeefpv2273
    @zeebeefpv2273 7 років тому

    I had such a hard time deciding on these two as well! Was forced due to supply to choose the FatSharks and I am very glad I did, I love them for the quality and for the simplicity. As a casual flyer, and a beginner, I find very little need for most of those extra things although I would definitely like diversity.
    One thing I wanted to say is a big thank you to Banggood's customer service dept, as I just had a no-nonsense exchange with them about my defective Lizard 95 camera, and they quickly and competently issued me a replacement camera at no charge. Fantastic. Happy and flying over here!

      If its any help James Hicks i just took delivery of the commander's a couple of day's ago. I went through Aliexpress and got them for £258. First thing i did was drop them, accidently Lol, but happy to say no damage done, wouldn't reccomend it though. As for the goggles themselves they are great comfortable great resolution everything i was hoping for and more. I am relatively new to FPV and still use a sim for practice and the HDMI port was a must have for me. I know there are cheaper box style goggles that have the feature but these ticked all the boxes so i went for these. Another is having the Diversity feature available from the get go, mine are the upgraded version with the print on the buttons and they also come with two good antennas a circular and a patch. Also the battery cable is great as you can use anything from a 2/3/4 S. Hope this helps, and good luck with whatever you decide to go with. :)

    Thanks JB for the review. I am in the market for some goggles (I'm rocking some only quanum v2 pro no diversity) I think I may wait to see what leforge does with this new software and then make a decision. I did get to check out some Dom v3's yesterday and I had seen some ghosting of an image in the side as well unless the goggles were aligned good on my eyes. Off a tad and I could see a faint image appear on the sides. I'm wondering if my eyes just need more then a pack to adjust to the vastly large difference between the two goggles. Cheers

    Just want to say BANGGOOD! has always taken excellent care of any problems i have had. They only ask for pics and a few E-mails. I have always been extremely happy with customer service. I am inpatient though, so waiting for goods to arrive from B.F.E. is always tiresome especially on something of this value. P.S. i am just a satisfied customer not a Rep.

      BG have always been exceptional with issues I've had. In the approx. 200 orders I've placed they have never asked for me to return ship anything and have always offered to compensate me monetarily or provide a replacement part. No you shouldn't have to replace a shorted vtx in a new micro due to exposed buzzer legs but within 24hours another was being shipped. Also having to unlock and flash a global ROM to my mi5 was a hassle but at least my 5 yr old son doesn't get around like a hobo because I bought the Nexus 6p instead.
      I think the hassle of having to deal with an issue at all is where some people draw the line. In a perfect world right? ;)

    Been waiting for this review - Thanks Joshua all your videos are very informative - anyway I got the email the other night too and immediately jumped on banggood to buy a pair. I must have gotten there fast cause I got a pair just before midnight August 4th and they have already shipped. Aomway says they have a 1 year warranty which is not as good as fatshark FYI. Anyway, I figure if I dont like them I should be able to re-sell them pretty easily.

    • @FPVSkittles
      @FPVSkittles 7 років тому +1

      oh and I wanted to share this Banggood buying tip I always use: They offer free shipping on all orders, so you can buy a $1 item and if you use your paypal account to pay at least half the time you get a little bonus spin. Everything there is almost worthless except the 10% off any app purchase. I make sure I always have one of those in my coupons so if I make a larger purchase I just pay from the app on my phone and get an extra 10% off. That made my Aomway Commanders only cost $311. Pretty sweet discount you can get over and over.

      mike jh thank you. I was just going to ask the same thing. I have had attitude v1,v2 and dom v2,v3 and hd v2 oh and the dom se. And only the dom v3 compared as far as screen quality. The skyzones diversity is second to none, even ground stations. The pic quality looks like crap on paper but is by far the best image quality I have tried. The spectrum analyzer is freaking awesome becuase you don't have to keep taking the goggles on and off to make sure what frequency your on or to see if your on the same channel as a friend your trying to watch. These goggles get over looked every time because they are not advertised like the others. Now my son and I have had ours over a year and a half and have had no issues. But the one and only downside to skyzone is trying to find their customer support. Thank god I haven't needed them lol. But I would not hesitate to buy another pair what so ever.

      I got em too. After much watching of reviews and after waiting for the commander goggles which seemed never to come.... I like buying from the underdog as the are often innovating to gain market space - drib uses skyzones and now I see why - all of fatsharks quality, few of the oversights. Only one thing that they should have, all goggles should have in fact is a low battery warning! Can't imagine why that gets left out... There are ways around though, as always.

    I recently experienced Fatshark customer service and I was very impressed. I got a receiver board for my old Attitude V2s sent to me in a week.
    When half the cost of a decent setup is the goggles, being able to get them repaired in a hurry is something that shouldn't be overlooked.

    Hi Joshua! I would like to ask you one question about FATSHARK HD3. I'm a total noob about electronics, but I'm wondering, if I can power those goggles with 2S (or 3S) LIPO battery. The spec of FS HD3 says "DC input: 7 - 13V" so I think that I can do that if I mod the connector of the battery (or use adapter). I heard that those FS batteries are not really good. I would like to use 2S 2200 mAh Lipo which I used for my JJ PRO f01 (box goggles).
    (I saw few YT videos of guys doing battery mods for FS goggles, but the all used Li-Ion 18650 batteries)

    Hi Josh, very informative, but i think a lot of viewers was still hoping you would do a direct comparison of the fatshark dom v3s to the aomway commanders. As of now, the price of the v3 dropped drastically, and I was just wondering, if price wasn't a factor, would you prefer the Aomway Commanders or the Fatshark Dominator v3s? Cheers! (also awesome vids on the fatshark module shootout!)

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  6 років тому +1

      I still love the Fatshark goggles because they let me use modules like LaForge, Achilles Pro, and so forth. I feel the feature-set of these modules is worth the additional cost over Commander. But that's just my personal opinion, and many people prefer the simplicity of a goggle with built-in module like Commander.

  • @martianmcfly

    I've recently bought the Attitude V4's setting up from modified Teleporter V2 (or Predator V2). Having tried various others goggles from people at the flying field, i wasn't keep on the huge FOV. so the Attitude V4's fitted perfectly for me, i love the clarity of the picture too... Diversity hasn't been missed as i just upped from 200mw to 400mw when i'm in the forest or have things that potentially block the signal.

  • @faawks
    @faawks 7 років тому

    My biggest issue with all of these so far is the FOV, they're so small!
    I tried a pair of Dom3's the other day and while I didn't fly with them I found the screen felt too far away or too small.
    Is this something people get used to?
    I've been flying with a cheap pair of ev800's and the screen feels like it's triple the size, I'm used to it, I don't really know where to go from here.
    I really do want diversity though and ability to upgrade the module on the fatsharks tips me towards them.

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  7 років тому

      Nah that's on the normal to light side in my opinion. For freestyle (with a GoPro) somewhere around 600 to 650 is "normal to heavy". Anything getting close to 700 grams is too heavy IMO. Down around 550 to 600 is light. For racing, of course, they don't run GoPros and they get as light as they possibly can, some of them are at like 450 to 400 grams WITH BATTERY.

    I have commanders and I do not regret my choice. I hemmed and hawed over them vs. dom v3's but in the end when I needed to buy a module for the dom v3 and the "good" ones ran 70+ I chose the commanders. FWIW I don't think you can go wrong with any of these goggles and if a friend asked me what thought about any of these three in order, I'd recommend the commanders first, then the dom v3's, then the attitude v4's. The attitude v4 right now has limited ability to do diversity and IMO non ability to do 16:9 is a problem not a choice. If you think the attv4 is a great goggle, thumbs up, I'm certain you made the best choice for you.
    All in all I'm glad somebody other than Fatshark (yes I know Skyzone's exist, and yes I know they compare favorably to domv3 and commanders) is pushing the right buttons on this and more competition leads to better cheaper products for us the consumers.

      DomHD3 if you want aspect switching. For 4:3, I prefer the larger FOV on the HD2, but many people have blurry edges and hate them.

      Joshua Bardwell Thank you. Using the SEs I think the blurry edge is an issue for some when trying to adjust IPD with a large FOV. I get it on SEs if I haven't fine tuned. Do you think the HD2s are a worthwhile upgrade? Subjective I know but I'd appreciate your opinion.

    Something else; Do you know Sander Sassen? He says he's developing an app to program the Tramp with your phone. I guess he want to promote his channel doing so because he wants 500 likes. Personally I can't wait for this app to become a reality.(I didn't put a link here otherwise this comment would be spam-filtered)
    Hope you want to help by making a comment referring to his video or channel.
    I'm new in the hobby and just want help make things better :)

    • @rogue-tr
      @rogue-tr 7 років тому

      audiogek as convenient as that sounds, I'd much rather use the TnR wand to program the tramp. Getting my phone close enough to the NFC antenna would be painful. Admittedly the TnR wand is rarely in stock ... anywhere ... but this is how I configure all my quads now and I'd hate to rely on the NFC capabilities of my phone, which can also vary between android updates and versions. I believe there is also a smart audio option but don't quote me.

    • @audiogek
      @audiogek 7 років тому

      It's just another 60euro's I'd rather spend on motors, another thing to carry around while I have a phone on me that -does- could do the same.

    • @rogue-tr
      @rogue-tr 7 років тому

      You can say that about a lot of things that can be substituted with something else but often they don't do the job any where near as well as the one thing designed for the job. I paid $50 USD from the rotor riot store which is 43 Euro. I threw in a couple of other items and shipping and paid just over 60 Euro. It's still not cheap but considering it can configure all three of my quads, runs off of standard AA batteries and so far never needs recharging, it's way more convenient than a phone. Including batteries it weighs 62g and occupies almost no space. The support is good and there are feature improvements that are provided in firmware updates that may not kick across to the app in a timely manner, if at all. I'd also not want to rely on the app when other people's quads are at risk of dropping out of the sky if the app misreports what is actually going on.

    • @audiogek
      @audiogek 7 років тому

      I like to stay positive until there is a reason not to. So at least I'll give it a try when the app releases.
      Locally the Wand is €55 +5 shipping,
      and when importing to Europe import tax has to be paid and makes it even more expensive.

    • @rogue-tr
      @rogue-tr 7 років тому

      audiogek that's fair enough. I wasn't being negative, just espousing the positives of the existing product for anyone reading. I'd heard of the app or at least the potential to read the data using a phone's NFC capabilities and I am hopeful. I still think it will be hard to make it's usefulness as convenient as the wand but fingers crossed.

    Can one not reach out to Aomway if the Commanders have issues instead of the seller? If I buy a Samsung TV from Amazon I call Samsung if it's defective.

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  7 років тому +1

      It's usually a crap-shoot with most of these vendors whether you will get hold of anybody. Some are better than others. Typically your best bet is to go to the retailer because they have a direct relationship with the customer. If you buy a Samsung TV from Best Buy, and it gets home and it's defective, you don't call Samsung, you just drive back to Best Buy.

    I believe that last quality issues you mentioned about Aomway's are tied to typical Chinese business practice. To cut costs, manufacturing resources are used without timely maintenance and hardware change etc. going in run down state and starting to making problems with production quality. Kabab recently had brilliant talk with Skidoosh (you can found recording in his UA-cam page) who have manufacturing plants in China where he told about such issues who literally plague Chinese manufacturing in great scale. In December 2017 Aokfly borked in the same way - last batches of their motors started to have issues which wasn't noticed earlier. There is only two ways to continue - they will repair their manufacturing lines as required in their specs or will end tits up.

    Commanders have short head straps and the IPD adjustments do not open very far.... so if you have a medium to large size head or your eyes arent heaps close together you might not be able to get a clear display.

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  7 років тому

      The IPD on all of these goggles is about the same so I don't think that's a pro or a con. If you have really narrow or wide eyes, a box-goggle is right for you.

    Based on the fact that I will use them with a phantom 4, so through HDMI, what would you advise me? Aomway? dominator v3? Dominator Hd3?

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  7 років тому

      For a Phantom, you want 1080p resolution right? None of the above suit the bill. But I would be looking for a large FOV 16:9 goggle with as high a resolution as possible and HDMI input. Commander I suppose but it doesn't have great FOV.

    • @j4nch
      @j4nch 7 років тому

      Joshua Bardwell no, 720p,phantom records in 4k but transmit only in 720p. Currently I'm not sure if it's better to have a bigger fov(dominator HD 3) or a better resolution (aomway) or something in between (dominator v3)

  • @StandardizedBuilds
    @StandardizedBuilds 7 років тому

    Another consideration is that for the $$$ that you're saving you can buy a furiousFPV diversity module + the ultra portable base station that they're about to drop. So now you've got the ability to use the fancier diversity module when you're at a race day and the commander diversity when just flying around the park.
    Personally the screen size is the issue. With the imminent release of the furious base station perhaps an antenna-less solution is in the cards.

    I got a pair of the Commanders through fu-rc. They do a rebadge, some firmware update and send them out. As far as being able to fly goes they work great, but the DVR never worked. I tried about 7-8 cards with no luck. I can't really recommend buying them from fu-rc, their customer service isn't great. But I did contact Aomway and they answered right away. They had me update the firmware but that didn't work, so now it looks like they might be sending me a new DVR module to try. So it seems there is customer support from Aomway themselves.

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  7 років тому

      I think it could matter less depending where you fly. When you are far out, you're going to be on the high-gain directional antenna the whole time. The place diversity might help is if you are coming in for a landing and go out of the beam. Having an omni for nearby coverage could be nice.

    After owning them for 6 months, my Dom v3s went blank mid-flight. Bizarrely they wouldn't work with a loaned Rx module but my module wouldn't work in loaned goggles either, so they were both bust! FS repaired/returned them inside a week. Wow it's getting ridiculous. Anyone who doesn't like the goggles someone else uses is a "fanboy" of the other brand. How childish. I currently have the Attitude V3 and the V4. Am I a Fatshark fanboy? Heck no. There are things I like and dislike about them, the same as if I owned the Aomways. But as Josh said, product support is going to be there later on. Build quality is also important and the Fatsharks have demonstrated that. Anyway can't we all have our choice without others insulting us for choosing what we like?
