@@janl5879 listen y’all can cope in every way you want, GDKP’s being banned and gold buying being disincentivized is an objective and net GAIN for the community. It improves the economy, brings more people into the open world, and improves general raid experience for the average gamer.

@@sekijou3622 i think the gdkp ban personally was a good thing, but ALOT of people relied on gdkps to get gold, and with blizzard focusing more on gdkp (and not the bots that are the only reason gdkp exists in the first place), alot of things where hard to buy for the average player as well without buying gold, i mean like a total of 400 gold on my server for getting your mount, your crafted epic items, your abilitys and ect, they make multiple gold sinks after removing a source of gold for alot of people and it hurt them alot.
I like the way blizz is moving with sod though, they reduced the pricing on mounts and slowly epics are crawling back down from the insane price they where before.
Um there is 1000's more bots thanks to 50% xp bonus now 100% bonus i know people buying another 50 more bot licenses because of this news on march 5th. The gold sinks to make your alts epic helm etc is waaaaay bigger gold sink than GDKP was by far. and leveling your professions is expensive. Summoner bots bringing in crazy gold that surpassed GDKP splits in 2 weeks than 2 months of gdkp. the RMT Sales are off the hook way more money moving now then phase 1 so u stopped nothing.@@sekijou3622

I haven't wanted to go play Goldeneye this badly in a LONG time.
The problem is that it doesn't actually fix the issue.
SoD is full of gold sinks, (they've actually increased some and added more in this version specifically) which still incentivise buying gold. Also BoE's are HUGE this phase, and will be going forward.
The solution is to crack down on RMT and botting.
These problems shouldn't exist, they are easy to fix, Blizzard just doesn't WANT to. this is a bandaid that solves nothing.
Gold sinks? Inflation will be significantly worse on SoD than it is on Era. Look at what you can get from questing at max level, the waylaid supply crates are generating huge money too. There aren’t nearly enough in the game to stop the amount of raw gold coming in.
Even if they can stop the rampant botting, it’s not like the gold is going to go down it will still be in circulation.

I love that the GDKP spam is gone when looking for raids.
I’d argue that parsing is also a factor involved in gdkps/gold buying. Every guild I’ve been in in wrath our top parsers/players in general ran gdkps to get the gear for the parses and would sub in an alt for a week or 2. Seen it done in every guild. And if you’re not in a guild, or your guild raiding progression is bad, or your parses are bad or have none from returning for current content, then no one wants to play with you. The issue really is metagaming. Everyone wants to be number 1, and if you don’t it’s 10x harder to find people to play with.

It's funny how much some people care about parses for such easy content. Elitism has always been some kind of issue with certain people in WoW.
the big difference is rather that you currently only need 10 ppl so you are more free to decide who you wanna take with you. no one wanna carry people through content they are not meant to play with their current gear or skill set even they maybe enough to clear but will be more pain as with a "better" player. my issue with logs in classic is that they are not reasonable to take if someone can or cannot play its more of a how good is your gear and how much crit luck u got thing.
as an example from sod in ashenvale no one cares what gear lvl etc. u got for getting invited cause filling a 40 man or even 2 40 man raids is way harder based on the number of ppl availble. the meta factor u get right for sure if you are off meta its impossible to get into grps sometimes it starts while playing lvl dungeons.

You won't stop GDKP in SOD. They will just find another way to get around announcing it. People are still doing it, people will still buy gold... It's just going to happen.
The idea that the company owners care is hilarious, this idea to ban GDKP in SoD is just a strategic move to retain a player base to sell more recycled content to (and probably won't work).
People have been selling items for gold since forever, my guild used to do it back in vanilla but it was WAAAYYYYY less common and Blizzard didn't allow it.
Since they sold out in 2008 the game went to absolute shit and so did the economy, gold farming is worthless (The only thing I enjoyed). Anyone with any self value WITHOUT A GOOD GUILD either buys gold or quits.
Who wins? China and Blizzard, firm handshakes indeed. Who loses? we do.
It isn’t about disposable income but due to in the early days going back to eq and ultima your online reputation meant everything. Wiped a groups and your entire server wouldn’t group with you . Same thing for gold buyers. We used to question people on boss mechanics if they had loot bust had questionable gaming skills
I played from van/bc/wrath/cata and never saw a gdkp. Maybe there was some but never saw any mentions on our server in global. Those where the times
Am I the only person who has never once bought gold? I can say that not buying gold has been a pretty large disadvantage since the beginning of this game, you constantly feel behind, but at the same time, every upgrade I get feels really good. If GDKP was run with all in game gold I would be all for it, it's a pretty cool way to do a raid, but since it is not I am glad it is banned and I wish the RMT community could be as well. It's garbage, but I am not naive enough to think that will ever happen.
Me neither :) I'm a relatively new player to World of Warcraft and I want to immerse myself in the world of Azeroth. Every upgrade feels meaningful and I enjoy farming for gold. Unfortunately RMT ruins my gaming experience because of the bots that are plaguing farming grounds and the overinflated market (how can I consider myself a rich tycoon if I don't swipe). When you see pieces selling for over 500g you know that bo one in their right mind would buy them if the gold was acquired legitimately because it signifies tens of hours of monotonous farming which aren't worth a single piece of gear.
Okay im pro removing GDKP but as a retail player I have to point out one thing wrong with the video lol. When he said token+gdkp is more pay to win than retail thats a little missleading. Retail still has the token and we absolutely use it to buy gear. If you lose the loot roll you just whisper the person who won and ask to buy it and depending on what it is and how early it is in the season theyll agree. A lot of my raiding guild, myself included, do this in the first week of the new raid so we can guarantee an early 2 piece and 4 piece for our tier sets by week 2. Its still not nearly as bad though because you only need 1 piece of tier to drop and potentially buy it off someone if you lose the roll. The other 3 pieces are basically guaranteed between the catalyst, vault and aotc/ksm turn-in to have your 4 piece by week 2
Self found is where you have to buy dungeon/raid boosts with alts to get your full blues then full epics. Same result but you have to use an extra character.
It won't work for gold in Self found unless they make the mistake they've made in the test servers and allow people to switch it off. You can't buy gold and you can't trade it to others, so in essence a GDKP can't exist at all. But chances are they will make the same mistake they've made on the test servers and instead of releasing a self found server they will set it up as an option...
So everyone in SF mode gonna have to be Alch/Herb since u can’t trade for the potions u need to raid?
I first saw gdkps in tbc, but on my server back then, the guild doing the carry kept the pot. I was horde on a medium sized mostly ally server, so the justification was only two guilds were clearing bt and Sunwell and most the people buying would never see this gear

Why is nobody talking about blizzard's fault. People who buy gold are those who can't make any. Either because of lack of time or being completely bored gathering flowers for 10 hours a day. I love raiding but when there is no way for me to get consumables i will just show up with nothing and eventually i will run out of gold. The simple solution would be to add a weekly quest awarding you with gold or item tokens whenever you clear the raid.
I don't think you realize what MMOs are all about. In all honesty I do not think wow is for you.

As the game goes on though i'll be broke and just log in to raid once a lockout. Cause that's what's enjoyable for me. Why wouldn't raiding be rewarded ? you're saving the world. the least they could do would be to spare you a few gold for it. instead of 12gold for handing in 2 scopes.

Not to mention the fact that buying gold affects my gameplay and other "legit players" who don't swipe. Keep that filthy bot money out of the economy or it will force me to also pay for gold (how can I possibly compete with your gold providers/aka bots, to buy items off the auction house?). At that point I will simply quit.
@@Starter102 it's not a matter of time. I have time, i play the game a lot. But instead of farming flowers and rocks, i like leveling all classes. Sure, keep bots away ( you can't ) , keep gold sellers away ( you can't ) , keep only players who devote their life to the game ( you can't ) , basically you want the game dead. The game will only thrive if it becomes accessible to more, not by making everyone a farming machine for hours per day . Just let everyone have a good time. If someone likes leveling, make quests give more gold, if raiders like raiding with 10 chars, give them some gold, if people like farming flowers make them more important . But allowing a feature like the AH to exist people will want to buy things, they will need gold, they will buy gold cause they don't have hours to farm and basically flood the game with more bots and eventually overflow economy . It happens in every expansion, in every realm. Things need to change. Instead of banning and hotfixxing , how about they just OVERTURN the whole game. They know what's wrong.
I'm talking too much, but after years of wow i'm sick and tired of AH and aimless mat farming. I've spent most of bfa flying for alchemy/herba so i can funnel my alts. Eventually i stopped, started raid boosting and never had to worry about gold. No gold buying, no botting, not anything. Now raid boosting is suddenly banned again.
There were GDKPs in wrath, but even then, it was different. Because the people with gold were usually not RMTers, but good players who knew how to make gold. What little RMT I heard about, was generally done between friends all living in the same country, not .. what happens now. If things were like they were back in WOTLK I wouldn't mind GDKP. But now we have the wow token, servers open to users from other continents, and automation instead of GMs. In the previous environment, GDKP was closer to an expression of skill. But in this environment, GDKP is inherently corrupt, Even if the one user isn't, They traffic with RMTers, botters, hackers etc when participating in these activities. I really hope they bring this ruling to retail, we need it bad.
Allegedly there was gold bid or carry runs as far back in EQ before wow even launched. Granted they were extremely rare.
I've never once bought gold, but I definitely always had a gdkp carry toon to make gold off of others. Sad I can't anymore.
Not just everybody buying gold, Blizz is actively selling gold. Maybe not in SoD but instead of cracking down on gold sellers and bot, they a) join in on selling gold in Retail, and b) make a half-a**ed new "rule" that would ideally make gold-buying obsolete. But we know the human condition: of course, they will keep buying gold. And then Blizz will go and say, oh darn, didnt work, well, might as well sell the stuff ourselves then, just as we already do everywhere else...

The guild I was in ran did 3-5 GDKP runs a week in vanilla Wrath starting from TotGC (is that right?) This was on Kilrogg
The main reason gdkp wasn't as much of an issue back in the day is for example, Ony took a full 40 man raid to complete. If you had 5 RMT players in, youd probably wipe. The easier it got over the years, the more RMT players you can put in. Now, i think Ony has been cleared by as low as 2, or 3 players with how much knowledge there is of old fights.
I joined a guild P2 and I love this game more now.
They aren’t incentivized to ban gold buyers, they’re incentivized to sell the gold themselves to people proven to spend money on it. It is what it is

I kinda like the idea too of the game of the future allowing all items in game to be bought and sold between players, just cuz the idea of making a real life living from being an in game master blacksmith sounds dope :3
We used this (almost) same system in Anarchy Online back in 2001.
Each boss was worth "points" and you bid against other people for gear using those points, not gold.

Before they have harsher punishments on gold buyers they need to figure out how to 100% conclude that person bought gold. Yes I got suspended for two weeks for buying gold I never bought….and just got a copy paste response. Company is dumb as hell

They also needed to have a ban on GDKP's from the start of sod if they wanted it to work, the economy is already broken and everything costs so much because everyone already bought gold and still has gold from buying

These types of raids go as far back as Vanilla. I think they were called "loot auction" raids back then -- I distinctly remember Insomnia on Tichondrius hosting BWL to pay for Naxx progression consumables.
We ran fundraiser runs in vanilla. But mostly for trash farms of nax and like 4 bosses that we had on farm. The funds went to advancing members of the guild.
This was pretty common throughout wows history, for sure. Guilds selling carry slots/selling item reserves. Different than gdkp to me.
Fundraiser runs and gdkp runs arent the same thing in the slightest.
@@VelvetSkyye it was the same just didnt have the volume of surplus of funds or the amount to people we have today able to clear content. The scale of it was smaller and the gold to real dollar value wasn't attached at the time but came along in TBC with people using paypal to transfer funds.
all gdkp is for is for people selling and buying gold and a way to send gold in game with out being banned ....ill leave it to you to think who and where this is happening lol middle something
Blizzard should do with GDKP like what canada and us states did with weed. Legalize it and make a system in game to do it, then there's no gold traders running the show, it can be monitored and fair, no one would trust a gold seller DGKP if there was an LFGDKP.
And then when they make a no-gdkp server, people who use it would probably be much less likely to trust a gold farmer GDKP event in general. So there would be less to worry about in those servers too.
So if you buy gold and then the game ends quicker don't you save money on sub because you quit sooner so less money paying sub fees
I think the ban on GDKP has been good. Pugging seems less complex and easier to find groups, if ur not a melee that doesn’t give buffs. I think if the raid size increased to 20 for phase 3 it would elevate some of the melee drama and help diversify raid comps allowing some flexibility to what’s specs are taken.
It will. Blizzard has already said both the level 50 raid and MC will be 20 man.

2019 Classic turned me into a swiper and i didnt run a single GDKP. It doesnt matter to me if theyre in the game or not but something has to be done about the in game economy or gold will always be bought en masse, gdkp or not. Just my 2 cents though

I did one GDKP and made 12g. I know there’s the extreme cases of hundreds of good trading hands but it’s not like the smaller, more reasonable GDKPs were moving impossible quantities of gold.
Alot of us with many alt's used GDKP's in order to pay for consumes. We could Raid to make some gold vs farming mobs in open world. I was more tempted to RMT myself in P2 than P1 cause the cost of raiding is higher than what you can just naturally farm. Now the group i ran with in GDKP's most just converted to a guild for P2
Even the biggest didn't move a lot of gold per run. The biggest gdkp on our server with about 20 runs per reset had an average cut of about 12g. Of course, first few weeks the cut was about 23g or so

when I used to do GDKP carries for Gold, the whales were always older guys who were well off financially in real life or streamers/pvpers/log obsessionists

blizzard removed gdkps but added 30 different gold sinks, ofc people are still going to buy gold. gdkps were a good way for me to keep up in this economy with multiple alts but now there's no reason to level said alts.

There were many top guilds in TBC selling gear (not really a gdkp, but still swipe = gear) all teh way back in 2006.
Well I think it was pretty common to sell Amani War Bear in TBC at least, but like you said that's not really GDKP run.

was happening already at the end of vanilla, i remember the top guild on my server where preselling ashkandi 35k and dark edge for 40k, would carry you until they dropped. im not sure how many they actually managed to sell but presumbly a few.

Alright so I see a benefit here in that in a normal raid you're already carrying 5-10 people that are half afk or just bad so why not at least be getting gold from those people when they decide to buy gear instead of having to just watch it go to waste.

What if blizzard Just forbade any kind of money trading between players. Just allow spending money on auction house and NPC vendor. The only money transfer in game that should be allowed is from your main to you reroll or vice versa. Mb i'm missing something but it should get rid of RMT if blizzard does this.

I just hope the Self Found servers aren't option Self Found. If that's the case it removes the purpose of bots and gold farming to the point where there will only be a few people doing it to sell accounts, which is known to be less profitable, especially on hardcore.

Our guild raids together and always let the rolls happen. We never dealt with GDKP. If someone has raided and lost the roll a bunch of times we just say at the beginning that so and so gets the staff or whatever and e all pass on it. Makes it a lot better world

Anyone who thinks the servers are worse now than 20 years ago are showing their lukewarm IQ. If you check out any original scarab lord gong video you’ll see the servers lag out for minutes at a time with just 500 people gathered out of a 2000 population. Now the servers are lagging but hosts 2000 people in the same spot. Yeah you might not remember the lag as Well, but you were also playing with 9fps and no prior experience to compare it to. People that say the servers were better back then should not be trusted with anything thay require critical thinking.
making punishment more harsh also makes it a stronger weapon for misuse. I could buy thousands of gold on your character and then report you and poof, you are done

Gdkps existed on duskwood server in 2005. There was a guild called that would carry whales through bwl/mc and have bidding wars

That's normal, you realize the game requires more time than you can afford to give. MMOs are time consuming games by definition.
Also "will to commit" sounds like a core to you. That's a clear sign that you don't enjoy the game anymore. MMOs are fundamentally about leveling.

I bought a lot of gold. Made life a lot easier when I was going through a really bad depression and didn’t value my time at $2 an hour. Not saying I support gold buying for a successful game but blizzard encourages botting so if the dev company doesn’t care it brings a feeling of why would the community? The core problem is blizzard literally supports botting for profits and they will never stop unless they hire gms again which they never will. Even if Ai gets really good at being a Gamemaster banning bots blizz most likely will not use for profits.

The non GDKP faction basically wants to get rid of bots. They're not against GDKPs because it's not how the game was designed to be played but because it highly encourages RMT. You could also call them the anti bot faction :)
