Hey Ethan. I am glad I came across your video as it resonates with me entirely.
I am an introvert person that started mixing/producing music when I was 14 years old and, at some point, became “famous” locally so I ended up playing regularly at some venues. Alcohol came into the formula. As you said, after a performance there was a party where everybody wanted to drink with you.
After a while, I stopped playing music professionally and went for a different career path.
Although alcohol had always been a part of my life as it had helped me socialise as an introvert, I quit drinking for good.
After being sober for two months, I am now working on my habits and thinking about coming back to music as it has always been my passion. This time, without alcohol.
Thanks for posting this video. It’s good to know that some people achieved success in something you are currently trying to do.
    Cheers

Hi Ethan, I came across your channel not so long ago, I wanted to learn how to record and produce using Ableton Live. I have made music my whole life, but I have not so much experience in recording and I have always been dependent on others to record and to produce. I felt this was something that I really wanted to learn how to do.
I found your video's to be informative, clear, useful, and fun! You have helped me take my first steps in recording and producing my own music and for that I am very grateful!
Today I came across this video, and it really moved me deeply.
26th April of last year I made the decision to live a healthy and sober life, and this meant that I was going to quit smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol (both of which I had been doing rather "enthusiastically" for almost 30 years.
It has been quite a journey, certainly not always easy, but tremendously rewarding!
I am now in Chiapas, Mexico, taking 2 months(!) in a little cabin in a farm outside of San Cristobal de las Casas to learn Spanish, to get more fit and healthy, and to learn how to record and produce music. In your words : "To stop making excuses and to start making music".
I feel blessed for my whole life journey so far, proud of the choice I have made 10 months ago, the commitment I have made to myself, to move through discomfort and having the courage to move ahead one step at a time.
When I was looking at "how to sync a beat in Ableton Live" I came across your video, and it moved me deeply. I just wanted to say thank you for the super informative and inspiring videos about Ableton (they have helped me enormously!), but this added a whole new dimension for me and I am grateful for the message that you put out there! With respect and gratitude! Best regards from Chiapas!

Thanks for sharing your story, it very similar to mine, only I chose to not drink again, but I understand and respect your choice to. The one of the things I learnt when I stopped drinking was that I only enjoyed certain environments cause of the alcohol and that I was better off not being in those environments. Which let me to finding new environments that i truly enjoyed without having to trick and abuse my brain and body to enjoy them, I started enjoying just being in nature and being in my own company. Long story, short I'm happy you this worked out for you and wish you the best on your journey

I gave up alcohol on the 24th of February 2023. The day after my wedding. You see I am a diabetic and alcohol is not supposed to be my friend, but like Ethan mentioned, the touring, the DJ sets, and so on I drank. So at times that I woke up somewhere else other than where I was supposed to be, and if you are in a foreign country it could be worst. I know. I had to make a choice (dialysis was mentioned to where I was headed) and decide on whether to continue to go down the path of drinking or live a more healthy lifestyle. I know it is not easy, but I can at least say that with the encouragement of my wife who has joined me on this journey, things will get a whole lot better for both of us.
Bravo to you Ethan for taking the journey. Thank you for your story. Peace and Blessings to you.

I'm not a music producer by any means, at least not yet. I've been learning a lot lately so I can get my raw emotions onto an audio canvas. I'm more in tune with video production, editing...etc. It's a new leaf, a new direction I've been led into, and I just wanted to thank you for putting something like this out and sharing. I haven't truly worked on my computer for the last couple of weeks or more really, it's been tough to sit on it when I'm sober and tougher once I'm no longer sober (Tree though not alc). This video got me out of my bed to finish/work on the things I need to work on.
I was sober/abstinent for a solid month+ and I felt the best I've felt in a while. Eating healthy, working out, craved meditation and water like crazy. Definitely fell back into it out of habit, plus some not-so-great life experiences. I create when I'm happy, livid, excited, upset...etcetera so, it's worrying the most for me when I just don't create at all.
All to say, thank you! It's a day by day thing, moment by moment choices...doing my best. Thanks again for sharing!

I didn’t start performing until 2018, much later in life, and I quit drinking in 2020 after a very intense incident while drunk that easily could have ended in my death; or at the very least destroyed my reputation and aspirations forever. I was able to recover and sobriety since then has been the greatest gift I could have ever given myself. My goal is to tour the world, and I know that who I’ve become now is someone who can, as you beautifully put it in another video, be a “good steward” of my success. Love your vids, they are a breath of fresh air and I resonate with your genuineness and authenticity. Love sharing them with other performer friends. Keep up the great work 💪❤️

I don't even drink 🤣 I managed to pick up a speed & weed problem. If anyone told me that 5 years ago I'd say they're crazy. I am saying no the stressfull rockstar experience though. Doctor's orders!
I appreciate your realness btw, also in the music vids. We can always use some more of that. This is good too.
These are lonely times for many. That's how I got into my habit too. It just runs from the good side to the bad side one day - and trust me, I've had plenty of opportunities for and shots at addiction. It just never stuck until it did.

I have noticed that walking in nature and being with it has sparked a ton of insane music ideas. We're talking wonky time signatures and tempo modulation. So my two goals is to try to go into my daw to learn how to make synth sounds and to be in nature more.

Thanks for sharing your emotions with us bro, I hate alcohol, so I don’t drink at all, even after parties people want to drink with you, I always refuse. The only thing im down to do is smoke a joint…Even joint is something you need control, because if you smoke too much weed, you fell a sleep and leave no room for creation… Everything needs balance, balance your life and you will feel much better….

congratulations! I have not had a drink in nine years. I think I could go have a few drinks but I'm afraid that I'll want more. Not that I will have more, just want. Like missing someone. If you know what I mean. It's like now that I broke up with it do I really want to trust the breakup will have to happen again. I think you did it the best way. Because, and this is important, had you found out you could not have controlled it you could have gone back to the rehab beach, lol. I mean it is the great obsession of all alcoholics that someday, somehow they will be able to control their drinking. Maybe they can, maybe they can't. It sounds like you were not a true alcoholic. Now, the shocking part--my life totally sucks since I quit drinking. I even got into music production. I'm not dating, not sociable, feel like a total outcast and just don't go anywhere or do anything. It was not my problem. Wait, I didn't say I'm for sure not an alcoholic. I said many alcoholics make the mistake of believing alcohol itself is the problem and if they quit everything will be fine. Wrong! To keep it short I will just say we have life patterns we establish over time. These are hard to break. If you always like to take the easy way out and do as little as possible quitting alcohol is not going to change that. You will just be a lazy sober person. I'll leave it at that. Once again congrats. I'm gonna have a drink but not now. That's what I've been saying for nine years...
