Ahhh! The smell of nitro methane on a cool spring night at the track. The sounds keep playing over and over in my brain. What a sight it was at night to see all eight candles burning on a 3000 h.p. elephant motor!
Love the nostalgic cars. Too few people in the stands for Michigan...Love the 100% nitro. Mich has the craziest fans ever. Can't wait to get there some day.
Thank you very much! Side note---that run between Romine and Hilton was a last minute deal after some down time on the track....both drivers opted to not run singles and give the fans a show. Kudos to them.
i built 7 alcohol and 5 nitro motors when working for Yuhl Bros. Perf (now closed) in Reno in the 80's. There isnt a thrill in the world that matches putting a 130k motor together and hearing it fire up the first time. I'll always have that rush. it runs in my blood
July 2018 and I found this for the first time. I love my nhra funny car races, but they need to go back to these body styles. The sound is amazing. The look of the cars are so bad ass. Can’t beat the look of the old muscle cars with funny car underneath.
Drag Strip Riot yes I should have said that. Full on 1/4 mile how it should be at its best. Takes real bad ass drivers and tuners to take it on. Nhra should really think about bringing back 320 feet. Great video by the way. I should have mentioned that to begin with.
It would be great if NHRA did, but after a decade now of 1,000' racing for the nitro classes I just don't see that ever happening again. For now, we'll have to enjoy whatever 1/4 mile nitro racing we can find at IHRA sanctioned tracks and independently run events. Thanks again!
This channel is what I'm talking about when it comes to drag racing. Nicely done. 5 or 10 minutes max though. Never gonna get anyone to watch 22 minutes.
Hey! Question! Why do they open up the Roof Hatch while backing up after they warm the tired and before they start? (the hatch where a car would have a sunroof) Thanks! Great video.
New funny cars may be faster, but they don't have the same character. They lack the soul of the classic cars. You could at least tell what the car was trying to be. That's why my attention has been diverted to nostalgia and no prep.
The hatch above enables the drivers to exit the car without the body up after a run or in the event of an incident. They also pop it open to air out burnout smoke as well.
Karen they're usually for safety used heavily here and in the NASCAR when a car loses control that will vent the air through it and hopefully proven I guess to keep the car on the ground it's all about the safety hun... And by the way great video ❤️
Anyone know why from 0:04 to 0:07 Funny Cars make that humming sound as they are racing down the strip? It is my most favorite sound in the world and want to know how its done.
The sound from the supercharger spinning coming at you like that is a sound unmatched in any other sport. Even cooler to hear from the alky class cars.
Go look at S&W race cars website. They have one of each and drawings of the chassis to compare. They're not the same. So it's not basically anything. Each one is it's own creation.
If I wanted to play the "it's basically just a..." game, we could say it's basically just a front engine dragster with the front chopped down and a body put on. It's really not, but hey, it's close enough. Right?
Unfortunately most nostalgia drags don't attract the big crowds (however some annual events get huge turnouts). I think its mostly due to major sponsorship and just getting the word out.
The crowd was much better during the day into the first session. However, once the temps began to plummet many folks decided to leave early. A shame they didn't stick around for this and Lagana's run.
Drag Strip Riot z Thanks for the reply. I love 1/4 mile racing. Use to frequent the NHRA races in El Paso back in Kalitta's, Prudhome (sp?), Daddy Don Garlits, Shirley Muldowney many others day. At SIR outside of Puyallup, Wa, I saw Gene Snow, Karamisines and the guy who's flywheel came undone one time and either killed him or amputated him. That accident was the one that made all rails rear engined.
Wow, a lot of history right there. Those were the glory years, for sure. We love 1/4 mile racing, too, and are going to try and make as many events that feature full 1/4 as we can. They seem to be diminishing in popularity to the 1/8 mile scene, and that's a sad deal. Thank you for watching. Cheers!
Thanks for explaining. I wasn't aware they were they were nostalgia funny cars I didn't read the description only the title. I love seeing the old cars running it makes us appreciate how far we've come. It's not that long ago top fuel dragsters ran the first 300mph pass in the 1/4. Soon Pro mods will be running those speeds.

I like video of cars coming to the end of the pass😎
No commentary or broadcast-damping audio....Turn up the volume and put this on full screen. Welcome to the strip!
Yes, watch it large and loud! Thank you!
16:19 the most ear pleasing sound I ever herd!
I really love nostalgic funny cars. They are by far my favorite. Each car seems to have its own character and that's what makes it even more fun.
Fantastic video. These cars were the pinnacle of the nitro funny car story. Thanks for posting, it really takes me back.
Agreed! Thank you very much!
Excellent Facts, Excellent Video, Excellent Racing, Excellent Track, Excellent Record being broken and Thank-You for all You do!
Thank you very much, James!

You better believe it! Can't wait for the season to begin here in the Midwest.
@@DragStripRiot ... I live in Chicago and I miss the strip........ Awesome!!!!
Love the nostalgic cars. Too few people in the stands for Michigan...Love the 100% nitro. Mich has the craziest fans ever. Can't wait to get there some day.
Crowd was better during the day. Unfortunately, many fans left early when the temperature began to drop considerably.
Too bad. Header flames and faster times.
spikedart 1aaàaaâàaæaaaaaäâààåāã

BIG HP👍👍👍👍awesome, Damn that very last race, holy cow where hauling ass.
Love those old school monsters. Really fun to see a front engine rail take on an old school funny car. Just awesome- keep up the great work! Subbed.
Thank you very much! Side note---that run between Romine and Hilton was a last minute deal after some down time on the track....both drivers opted to not run singles and give the fans a show. Kudos to them.
Single mag nostalgia cars, worlds fastest back in their day, I’m sure they’re going faster now than back then which is cool asf!
GREAT SOUND!! You can actually hear the high gear "shift", which is actually the clutch locking up.
Thank you very much!
Drag Strip Riot Especially from the top end. Nothing like blower whine at 250+!!
Agreed!
Ace channel, thankyou. Always loved that top end sound.
Thank you very much!

Great Video.
Thank you very much, William!
6:38 Awesome on board!!!
Thank you very much!
It’s crazy how today’s NHRA pro mods are running just as fast
exactly
What's size pump are the flopers running in ihra?? Buy the look of the flames a lot more than 21gpm
Most of the teams run under the NHRA Heritage Series rules which is a 21 gpm pump. Some of the "outlaw" nfc teams are running 30.
I went to this actually
Amazing video!!
Thank you very much, Chris!
Drag Strip Riot yeah man! U have some of the best footage!
Elon Musk watches these videos for the sound 😂👍
This channel is what I'm talking about when it comes to drag racing. Nicely done.
5 or 10 minutes max though. Never gonna get anyone to watch 22 minutes.
Thank you very much. We offer a variety of video length clips, some just run longer and the teams featured enjoy them most. Thanks again. ~Dawn
Great perspectives, as close to being there....800,000 Watts on 10. plug your ears!
Thank you!
5.38 1/4 ? WOOOW
Yep!
Hey! Question! Why do they open up the Roof Hatch while backing up after they warm the tired and before they start? (the hatch where a car would have a sunroof) Thanks! Great video.
The open the hatch just to get the burnout smoke circulating out quickly. Thanks so much for watching!
Awesome video. 1 question, 1/4 mile, as in 1320 ft.?
Yes!
one thousand three hundred and twenty feet, as it was, and as it should be.
New funny cars may be faster, but they don't have the same character. They lack the soul of the classic cars. You could at least tell what the car was trying to be. That's why my attention has been diverted to nostalgia and no prep.
Agreed!
What's the little hatch or whatever it is on the top of the cars for?
The hatch above enables the drivers to exit the car without the body up after a run or in the event of an incident. They also pop it open to air out burnout smoke as well.
Drag Strip Riot thank you. I've never really paid much attention to funny cars literally until this video. 😅
You are quite welcome! Thank you for watching! 😉
Karen they're usually for safety used heavily here and in the NASCAR when a car loses control that will vent the air through it and hopefully proven I guess to keep the car on the ground it's all about the safety hun... And by the way great video ❤️
What was that lone slingshot doing there? He must have gotten lost and went to the wrong event!
(I know I have).
LOL...he was there to test, and was in for a pair.
I can replay 10:20 all day damn what a high
Is it loud when ur the driver

These are basically a fuel altered with a glass car body.
hello hun no, they're funny cars. Chassis isn't the same.

Ha! Thank you very much, and yes, long live nitro on the 1320!
Ya they are probably mentally ill they will never understand what these cars mean to a lot of people and the history behind.
UTube is the best!!!!!!!!
Jesus Christ 😂
where are the spectators???????

How cold was it? Looks warm there to me.
No finals? WTF?
The teams in attendance agreed to run all sessions.
Is this a 1/8 th mile track?
US 131 Motorsports Park is 1/4 mile.
Drag Strip Riot z Thanks for the reply. I love 1/4 mile racing. Use to frequent the NHRA races in El Paso back in Kalitta's, Prudhome (sp?), Daddy Don Garlits, Shirley Muldowney many others day. poor burnout,s
Not trying to be a smartass but why are the funny cars so slow? Promods have run 5.46 @ 272mph just running methanol.
Most likely an Outlaw Pro Mod car running that time. Nitro nostalgia funny cars are currently limited to fuel pump size of 21 GPM.
Thanks for explaining. I wasn't aware they were they were nostalgia funny cars I didn't read the description only the title.
