Wow...just wow. Would love to know what his heart rate was at during that. Can't believe there are people here moaning about this being 11 minutes long....it's 11 minutes of adrenaline..put yourself in his position..look at his breathing, his eyes, his hands, the routines he goes through, settling himself into the seat...this is 11 minutes of up close and personal. Nothing but respect.

And hot chicks can do it... take all the Force girls for instance... John’s jealous of their lack of ego which only helps them do their jobs better... After a race one time, John was down at the finish line end of the track like usual and Ashley, (I think it was) asked, “who did I beat”?

I know Jim personally. He jokingly told me the most important part was to not pass out. When launching from 0 to over 300 mph in a thousand feet, it’s easy to do.
Even though we was chuckling, I’m convinced he was serious.
But honestly, that’s something I will never know.

This is another unusual, unique and creative video posted by drag racers during the pandemic. I hope Fox and NHRA are watching these...these racers show how things can be done differently and give the fans a new perspective on drag racing and what it takes to do it at a top level. I was surprised at the audio during the burnout and run (quiet and much different than viewing it from the stands) but I suppose the microphone is totally inundated during the run and gives only a very poor representation of what the driver hears. I was also interested to see how much steering it took to get the car down the track. Nice job! Thanks!!!

Man I love all types of racing. I grew in in Pomona, CA as far back as I can remember, the Winternationals was a family “holiday” for us starting on Wednesday before the weekend. I liked this video, I really feel for the driver wearing those 4 or 5 layer drivers suits, sitting there burning down, even with a cool suit, waiting in the staging lane is a bear in the summertime. Not to mention, being in the suit for however long prior to getting in the car in the pits. Damn near need an IV bag hanging in the cockpit. We got to see a lot of what the driver is doing and going through for 8 long minutes just sitting in the staging lane, for only about 4 seconds (or less) of driving! But in that 4 seconds, a 1000 things are going on. I giggled when he disengaged his harness buckle, been there, done that in other forms of motorsports. 6Pt harnesses hold you in pretty tight, but at 3-5 Gs you somehow get moved in the seat, and then it is really uncomfortable! Loved this video.

DAYMN the rush as he's sitting in the lights, hand on the brake watching the flicker of the tree,, we're certain that experience absolutely connot be put into words. Not to mention how hard his body is hammered into the harness when he pops the chutes and allow that beast slow to 100 mph. Awesome!!

Just wanted to say.. heart rate would not exceed 140ish for him without a heart attack, as for BP (assuming you did in fact mean blood pressure and not Beats per minute or something) you’re maximum BP without tearing artery walls is about 230ish, over 250 and it’s very dangerous.

Wow great video. Before the funny car gets started up, it must be very hot in all that protective gear. Amazing the kind of steering wheel they use in the funny cars. Three-four second runs in these cars are unbelievable now days.
When I first went to see the Funny cars run many years ago, they were doing 7 seconds down the drag strip. Times have really changed.
Thanks for the video and stay safe Jim, take care.

There are no cowards left in pro nitro racing, so it is awesome to see Jim managing the stress' checking every switch six times so that his hands know where to go. Yes, breathing, breathing, He couldn't wait to loosen that damn' harness at the end. Other in-car videos show much the same concentration. But, the engineering? I used to think sprint car steering was crude, but this looks like hell --- yet presumably the engineers in FC know what they are doing --- that steering butterfly looks clunkier than the buggies I built when I was ten -- yet they are in TF dragsters too.
