I’m not so sure he’s a low tier. If he can force whiffs to get people in the corner I think he’ll be okay. If Capcom ever removes throw loops though he’ll need to be reworked for sure.
One thing I learned on the forward throw in the corner, if you do charged light flicker right when it's charged (around 30-31 frames), you can still DI back if they try to DI your flicker, so get those timings down!
Love this guide, hope you do more on Ed, I'd really enjoy one on level 2 set ups, I think that's a really undiscovered area for Ed so far and everyone is only focusing on combos
@ZachHenke my fav is if you end with heavy 123, you can get strike throw pressure after his command dash, but if you do the medium ender and command dash, you'll be just outside of throw range, but still very plus. Great for a tech happy opponents without being at risk for wakeup c.lk to beat shimmy.
Good guide! Really helped me out. There's the training mode combo that you can do after that light psycho flicker snatch with KK6P into Cobra punch. Although, not sure if you get a safe jump from that. Probably more worthwhile to do if you are next to the corner.

Should work fine, for me Ed just doesn’t have a lot of safe ways to end pressure and his only plus on block normal whiffs on crouchers. That’s why I’ve been focusing on other stuff.
I'm in the training room right now to follow along with the guide, and Drive Rush x Cr. MK is +3 on block instead of +4. Not sure if I'm overlooking something or there's been a sneaky frame data change. Which means I'm trading when I try to follow up with MP
It’s not just DR cr. MK. It’s from a +39 knockdown following a forward dash as a frame kill. This puts you at +21. From there doing DR cr.MK times up to hit on the second active frame which makes it +4 on block. Sorry if that was unclear.
Lovely guide as always! How would you describe Ed in terms of playstyle? I usually love boxers because they often have a unique approach to rushdown, but Ed seems to break the mold, so I am not sure he is the kind of character I like.
I definitely don’t think he’s rush down. I was hoping for more of that myself, but he feels more like SFV Posion. He’s got some BS up close, but he really just wants to frustrate you in neutral. Those are my early impressions anyway.

All of it needs to be frame tight. The dash has to happen first frame after the special, drive rush has to happen first frame after the dash, and the cr.MK has to come out first frame it can from drive rush. This causes you to hit on the second active frame of the cr.MK. That makes it +4. If you’re not getting +4 you’re doing something too slowly.
See I wasn't shure when to sprinkle charged flicker problem I had learning jack-o with "when do I use minion?" Never touched a boxer but I can't put ed down thx for the guide

I plan to spend a little bit of time on Ed. We’ll see what else happens. I have at least a few more things I want to cover, but right now the goal is a little bit of Ed content.

Kill rush doesn’t get you the extra plus frames. It also doesn’t cover all the distance it looks like it does, as the last step he takes isn’t actually part of the animation of the move.
@@ZachHenke it does. Have you lab it? Always around +4 up until +11 in point blank distance on wake up opponent. You even can get meaty setup. Stmp become +1 on block. Or sthp become 0 on block. Just check it
@@Glenn_CH Ed has a few problems getting oki off lights that Kill Rush can't completely solve because M Blitz ender is relatively mediocre and L DP while fast + good knockdown is extremely short range, but yeah in most other situations Ed is hilariously consistent at getting strike throw oki situations meterlessly.
Great video I'm referring to this a lot learning Ed - Kill rush as an approach seems to be highly dependent on how you knocked down - your first combo with the light confirm (with dummy set to backstep) puts it at +8 but if you target combo into it I get it around 10-13 - so it works but it will probably whiff if you just spam 5mp off the kill rush. If they backstep it seems to leave me just outside of throw range - it could be possible to walk forwards just enough but I'd say if they are kill rushing you after one of these knockdowns midscreen they are removing throw from the options they have. heavy blitz from the ground (raw or from HP for example) allows you to throw from it if you time it well. Pretty complicated overall
It feels like ed hits so damn low all the time. Is that his game? Mixup all the time with high, low, aa, wire grab, normal grab, shimmy. I can see him being extremely hard to deal with.
He has 2 low moves, both scale down the following damage heavily. He's a mid dispenser, the most he can mix you with is strike/throw. Backdashing instead of teching seems to shut him down pretty easily until people get really airtight with the blockstrings.
@@Raxyz_0 Backdashing isn't that good vs Ed though given he's actually very competent at converting knockdowns at longer range. His 5MK singlehandedly makes it a generally bad idea to backdash his pressure given that's actually a move he wants to abuse for whiff punishes/shimmy tactics.
This sets up an auto timed meaty. Of course you can manually time an option, but I’m interested in auto timed stuff. Also, the 2MK in this setup is +4 on block. The frame advantage on DR MP is going to be variable depending on which active frame you hit.
Maybe im the most lucky guy in the world to have an auto time. Cause i just drive rush medium punch instantly lmao@@ZachHenke Also, one question: What do you link after 2MK?
Nice guide but your execution is poor so I recommend editing the failing bits, I can't watch you fail a combo 4 times in a row or failing a combo and saying nah I missed the timing but it works and then proceeding to next combo. The guide would be so much better with just a couple quick edits
My execution is not poor in general, but the character was out for a day at this point. I’ve also received more feedback in the past that people found it encouraging to see other people struggle with combos. I appreciate the feedback, and if I felt like it was excessive I would have edited it out.

If the rise in place do you do the same dash follow up? For the Dash into DR and double dash.
Rise in place has the same frame data in this game. The only difference is you’ll be slightly closer to them.

How do you get that flicker that pulls them in ?
You get that by holding down the kick button you used to do the flicker. For light this is 26 frames, and for medium and heavy it is 30 frames.

damn sucks you cant dodge projectiles with his duck and weave its kinda useless and only used for combos and shimmys
Probably would have been too much to have 3 special moves that beat projectiles.
I agree I loved his projectile sway in SFV especially when you got a hard read and got a combo with it

I think that’s it. He doesn’t have an overhead, so crouch block is your friend, but he just has to throw/shimmy you to death.

If you’re doing DR MP and it’s hitting off of any of these knockdowns you definitely aren’t doing it instantly.
