That "one scene" in this show got Superman in a way so few ever could. Tyler's sweet smile and complete lack of irony, shame or anything other then honest to goodness... well... GOODNESS when he replies "Thanks, My Mom made it!" and flies off. Perfection.

agreed, he plays the part perfectly, too often being stuck on the internet during these uncertain times its difficult to tell when someone is being genuine and good faith, and well, actually happy to talk about something. So its such a breathe of fresh air to be confident that a character can always be taken at face value.

That's honestly when I knew this show was gonna do Supes right. At least personality wise. Also Jonathan was played super well, really accurate to the comics honestly despite the no powers. It shows that he has his dad's heart too. Hope he gets powers too honestly.

That's what I love about Tyler's Superman. He goes back to what he's supposed to be: not just a hero, but a friend. Not someone who people worship, but someone who people trust and are inspired by. Badass, but also wholesome.

I'm here after seeing the season finale with tears in my eyes to tell you that: YES, this is it. This IS the perfect modern adaptation of Superman, they nailed it in every single aspect, Tyler Hoechlin and Bitsie Tulloch made me believe, not only that a man can fly but a man can love. Hands down to say that i never liked Henry Cavill as Superman, he has the body (debatable), but the script Snyder made for his role as Superman is everything he's not in essence. And it's weird that in times like these, where we see Evil Supermen everywhere (almost every streaming service has his own) CW decided to come and wIpe people expectations of what a modern Superman is, they took everything what Smallville did good and polished it to modern audiences. Incredible, it really shows that CW shows have heart, but sadly it's the budget sometimes what make them totter.

I knew as soon as I saw Tyler on Supergirl that he could be this generation's Superman. I love Henry, he has the look down, but the writing in the movies always failed him. Yes, seeing a Clark who struggles with where he fits in the world is of course interesting, but not when it's done by writers who clearly don't know HOW to write it. You never spend enough time with Henry's Clark to really love him in the role, or to truly get behind his feelings. With JL (both versions) he has such a 180 turn in his portrayal that tries to feel like the Superman we all love at the end, but it's the same issue of not getting enough time with him at that point in his life. With Tyler, it's different. You get to see the man behind the suit in ways we haven't on screen in years. Granted, it's a tv show, but with the right writers, whether it's a tv show or movie, it shouldn't matter. If you get the character, than you simply get him. Great video as always, dude.

The discussion about how Superman, if nothing else, is just a man doing his best by choosing love is something that resonated deeply with me. Years ago, I saw the Kaptain Kristain video about the Fleischer Superman cartoons and how Superman, without his powers, is just a man from Kansas doing his best and it changed my life. There is no fictional character I look up to more than Superman. Great video!!

I agree, imagine how amazing MOS could’ve been if Zack Snyder understood this. I get that he wanted to ask the “what if Superman really existed” question but I mean, no one ever wanted to know because it’s literally something you cannot ask. Asking “what if Batman really existed” is far more palatable because at the the end of the day he’s a human being who happens to be really wealthy and has experienced trauma in his life. That’s why the Nolan films were so successful because portraying Batman as dark and gritty is what the character is basically about. Seeing Superman in a dark costume, with a dark tone and looking depressed is weirdly misplaced to me, it’s just not what he’s about. Oh and the Fleischer shorts are still and always be some of the best Superman cartoons ever.

One thing (among many others) I noticed this show does which I really appreciate, in addition to the Superman and Clark Kent personas, you also get some subtle personality & movement differences in Clark Kent depending upon who he's around. You can see it when Clark is at home with just Lois and the boys versus when he's Clark and interacting with anyone who doesn't know he's superman. Kudos to Tyler because he transitions between the variations very seamlessly. Many things like this that the show does makes me as a viewer feel that the people working on it really care about what they are producing and have thought about the feeling and the message they want the viewer to take from the show.

But I knew I couldn't just click on it like any other UA-cam video. Because it ISN'T any other UA-cam video. It's not an academic study, a rant, a random opinion. It's a love letter. To a show that we need now more than ever. So, I decided to wait. To wait until the day Superman & Lois closed it's chapter on it's First Season.
Today was that day. And I'm so incredibly happy to say that after watching it live, it was indeed ABSOLUTELY PERFECT! And after rewatching it one more time tonight, I'm finally here. This video has been hyped up for a month in my head. Thinking of what all he would talk about. Of what he'd say about my favorite shows ARROW & The Flash, and my NEW addition to my list of favorite shows: Superman & Lois. And ofcourse, as always, you went above and beyond & Up, Up & Away if you will (pardon my cheese haha). Your video GAVE me hope. Your video MADE me smile. Smile knowing that I wasn't alone. Not just in loving Superman, everyone loves the big guy in blue. But in loving Clark Kent & Lois Lane. Your description of Superman, as the beacon of hope he always should be, and Lois Lane, as the beacon of humanity that she is, was...well...PERFECT. I am a man of many words, I would say, But I still aspire to get to the level of beauty you have in your videos. In how you speak about something you love with so much sincerity, and love, and passion. It's beautiful. And It's genuinely one of the Greatest Things I've seen on this platform.
And as for the video, I loved it. Ofcourse I disagree with you on parts about ARROW & The Flash, but that doesn't matter. It's not important. And as you so wisely say, "Art is Subjective". What truly matters, is Superman & Lois. And the way you perfectly described it in a way I never knew was possible, is beyond breathtaking. And I would like to say, from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU HITOP FILMS. THANK YOU ALEX. For making this beautiful love letter to this beautiful, BEAUTIFUL SHOW!

“Just a matter of time, I suppose”, I thought (in the voice of Watchmen’s Comedian) when I found this on here. 6:57, this is what I appreciate most about the show. At the risk of sounding cliche, it truly feels like a “loveletter” to all previous Superman content, using the best elements of all of them (even elements from iterations some disagree with, like Snyder’s Superman), to weave this new tale. Even down to Dan Homer’s at times simple but still glorious score (and the way it kind of blends of John Ottman’s Superman Returns with Hans Zimmer and Tom Holkenborg’s Man of Steel/Dawn of Justice/Snyder Cut) the show feels distinctly Superman.
What I found most fascinating is just how much this show got me personally and so many others to care….to actually….care about it and pretty much every character in it, even ones I thought I was going to hate or grow tired of.
Hell, by the most recent episode, I had gone from seeing Kyle as just some pesky obstacle to be taken down by Lois and Clark in the future to the well meaning but struggling man trying to do right by his community and his family, playing a song on a guitar with his daughter.
I went from seeing Jordan as this typical troubled and angsty “quiet kid” walking the line of a Chronicle/Brightburn type character ready for an inciting incident to drive him over the edge, to a genuinely good person with a dealt a bad hand, but who loves his family and knows that his family loves him back.
And I most of all didn’t expect to even begin to care about John Irons and Morgan Edge. Not just angry, hateful, and spiteful villains with no capacity for anything more underneath. But deeply hurt people the show manages to portray convincing as hurting people that people can feel empathy towards while still not agreeing with them (though, admittedly, not always). I especially liked how John was first introduced as a “Luthor”, a name synonymous with singlemindedly hating Superman and him throwing away the name is what starts his path to being more of a real hero than some vengeful man haunted by his tragedies.
As to the other big theme of the show, I don’t simply think it’s why Clark does what he does. Or just about the importance of knowing and understanding love and hope. But also about pain, hardship, and stress and everyone’s relationship with it. It’s something every character is faced with and how they respond to it helps define to us who each of them are as people.
Wether it’s Clark and Lois struggling raising their kids as well as balancing their respective careers, or Jon and Jordan just being kids trying to navigate life as it changes around them, or Sarah’s frustration with her parent’s flaws the expectations put on her by others, or Lana’s strained relationship with her husband and daughter, or Kyle fearing losing his job and his relationship’s due to forces beyond his control, or Sam deciding wether to be a soldier willing to do anything to protect humanity or a family man that stands with his family, or John failing to protect his world and fearing being unable to protect this new one, to Edge being raised by a cruel father after losing his world while secretly being desperate to not be alone and unloved anymore.
Everyone knows pain, but the true heroes are the ones who manage to not let it consume them and rise above it. It’s a simple theme, but it’s so well utilized and well woven into the narrative that it becomes truly impactful.
All this to say that it’s incredible to feel as though the people who made this genuinely care about making a quality story from start and, hopefully, to finish.

I don't like portrayals of superman that play up the alien outsider thing, like he is above everyone else, uncaring or unable to comprehend them. Hes not that. To me thats the whole point of superman. He is the most powerful single entity on earth, he came from a distant planet. But he is unaffected by the idioms related to power and corruption. In an aspirational, probably unrealistic, but ultimately very comic-booky way. He had such a wholesome, human upbringing on earth he is human to his core, and a good one. His ability and power to express that in the world just becomes an extension of that, it doesn't change who he is. I just couldn't get on board with the Snyder verse. There were some things that were okay about it but the characterization and writing just did not sit right with me. I'm cheesy and old fashioned but I can't help it, I liked this Superman way more. He is more human and genuine.

    • @OsSas3
      @OsSas3 3 роки тому +1

It's not cheesy and old fashioned. People can get behind Darkseid, a being of pure evil who has no remorse or redeming qualities but DON'T BRING A PURE HEARTED SUPERMAN WHO CAN OVERCOME TEMPTATION AND DARK THOUGHS CAUSE THAT'S UNREALISTIC. People can't fathom the idea of someone who is not as corruptible or "weak of spirit" as them, they want a Superman who is brought down to their level, they don't want to reach to his. Snyder didn't balance Superman/Clark, he was surronded by awful experiences and suddenly we are to believe he can surpass them and be Superman? Not for me.

I know that cut of the movie gets crapped on a lot, and a lot of it is valid but honestly, the concept of that scene was a good addition to the direction of Superman in that movie. He actually is in a good mood and interacting with kids as respected equals. Its closer to the classic Superman that I look for compared to the confusing characterization in most of the rest of that movie and the Snydercut.

I think you really nailed why this show works so well, and by extension, what makes Superman work so well. Literally BILLIONS of dollars have been wasted, by some of the biggest companies in the world, attempting (and failing) to understand what you’ve so eloquently laid out in this video. I think the reason we’ve never seen the DEFINITIVE modern, live-action Superman story (until now arguably) is that the people in charge, (studios, executives, filmmakers, etc) don’t even know the right questions to ask when approaching this character. I’m talking at the most basic level, when someone at Warner Bros. makes the call to take another crack at developing a new Superman film and says “OK, what is this project going to be?”, they don’t even know the right questions to ask. So they sure as hell don’t know the right answers, even when they think they do. You had the insight to cut straight to the core of the character In 2 words, “Why” and “Love”. Why does Superman do what he does? Why did Clark Kent become Superman? Because he’s a good guy from Kansas who just wants to do the right thing. He loves his family, he loves his friends, he loves his adopted world. So he uses his gifts to do something noble. It’s almost like he’s a firefighter. They felt the call to do something more, to be part of something greater, r just like Clark Kent. I think a lot of writers are scared of Superman because he’s too powerful and I think that’s a cop out. There’s limitless potential for storytelling opportunities, that they haven’t even scratched the surface of. Bravo on an excellent , well-thought-out, brilliant video, that I think every Superman fan should take a look at. I’m certainly going to share this with some of my friends. Keep up the great work!

I often think about this one bit in the Bendis run.
Oliver askes Clark doesn't super-hearing become maddening when you can't turn it off?
Clark remises that he can tune in and out of it but he doesn't.
He doesn't because for every crisis he hears that he races off to to solve. There's a dozen or more instances where someone else has stepped in to save the day before he can even lift a finger. Whether it's another hero or just a kind-hearted every day citizen. He listens for those times where a good deed is done.
And I just think that's really beautiful.

That was *THE* best videos on UA-cam I have ever watched. Not even about Superman, or DC, or superheroes. But of Humanity, and love and all of it in between.
Not only is Superman and Lois severely underrated, it has a great mix of message and you hit the nail right on the head. Why?
and the funny thing is, there's no answer, and that in fact *is* the answer. There is no solution to the question of why? Because it just is. Be it a choice, destiny, a rule. It just is.
But cudos. What a brilliant, well said, amazingly shown peice of art (oh, and also a vid or Superman and Lois. It came with it).

Superman's best stories are never about battles or moral quandaries, his best stories are about looking at one who knows what his morals are and trying to figure out what the best thing to do now is. He already has a center, it starts off as his Parents. He saw his parents in everyone, which is why he looks so positively on people. c.c Don't get me wrong, Lois certainly 'steps up' into that role, but remember for decades it was a will-they-won't-they with Lois & Superman, or Lois & Clark .
His is a center is that of an Orphan who rather than falling through the cracks, falling into a system that teaches him only suffering, was lucky enough to get a loving pair of parents who never treats him any worse than they would have treated a real child they conceived. I think that is where he draws his strength and moral conviction from, he doesn't need to question all these things, he... I know this is memetic, but, 'What would Mom do?' or 'What would Dad do?'. c.c

I think it's generally a great take on the character, didn't do anything too new, but instead has aspects of previous interpretations so that he feels familiar no matter who your Superman is. He's charming and optimistic like Reeve and Routh, he's got the balance of human and god that Welling had, really selling that he can do what he does because of his Kryptonian roots, but he does it because of his humanity, and he's got that feeling of responsibility and just, majesty that Cavill brought to the character.

Tyler’s Superman is literally the natural progression of cavill’s Superman if you were paying any attention to his character arc. People shit on cavill’s supes because he didn’t start off as this all encompassing symbol of love and hope, the point was to build up to that, to show that he was a man who was fallible, filled with doubt and unsureness and through understanding himself and his roots was able to push past all of that and become the Superman we all know and love. The Superman who despite all the public backlash, the broadcasted failings, the pressures that humanity placed on him, would still die for them. The Superman that unknowingly inspired a new generation of heroes, that served as the catalyst for The Flash to stand up and use his power for more. The Superman willing to step into a leadership role and develop the maturity, perspective, and respect for others who save people in their own way (Batman). There was never any problem with cavill’s Superman, we just only got to see him in his uphill climb towards becoming the person that audiences expected to see immediately. Snyder gave us a realistic, HUMAN development of the character and didn’t make him picture perfect from the jump, and I’ll forever be appreciative of that. And honestly, there is no Superman & Lois without Man of steel, as all of the extremely blatant inspiration and shot for shot recreations shows a clear appreciation for it.

Lol. By the time Clark is superman he has already learned those lessons. Clark didn't need to be made human he was human the day the Kent's found him. Snyder makes Clark act like an edgy teen when he's a grown man. You do realize that Clark became superman because of his father right? The same father that in Mos says that Clark "maybe" should of let innocent people die. Superman's story is a coming of story from the time his pod lands on earth to the day he becomes superman. His morals and beliefs were embedded in him over the course of his childhood. Not while he's a grown man. That defeats the point entirely. Snyder created a emotional wreck manchild who doesn't even know if he should be superman. By default that isn't superman. Superman is the culmination of everything that Pa Kent taught Clark. Mos gives us a reckless, distraught, hopeless, temperamental, self-centered headcase that only cares about Lois Lane . No wonder batman wanted to kill him. Mos is lex Luthor's wet dream. Look it's okay to like man of steel. I actually think it's a good story. But it's a terrible superman story. I think if Snyder doesn't have Clark become superman in that movie I think it makes it better in some respects. Superman and Lois gives us the most realistic and grounded and Human superman that we have seen in a while. It's a complete deviation from Snyder's Superman and I'm here for it.

I love Henry Cavill as Superman, he was just given a not so superb script, if the writing was much better, Henry Cavill would be an Incredible Superman

In my opinion I think Henrys Superman is misunderstood.
Tyler's Superman is a pro and already has been Superman for years and he has a family. Henrys Superman is still a beginner and he's learning. Zack Snyder said that he wanted to put Superman on a journey from beginner to becoming the Superman we all know and love.
If he never said this then I would 100% hate his Superman. But considering Zack wanted him to grow, it makes sense.

Then why does he not started since the beginning? Clark becoming Superman, not throwing a 33 year old man to become Superman in a wide world? Snyder didn't try to develop the character, he went with any ideas he had at the moment "Oh, I need him to die in order to develop him in his second movie" and "What if in the second JL he turns evil BEFORE we even get a proper 100% Superman? Yeah, that's cool" Movies are not tv shows or comics, you can't take 5 movies to get a proper Superman, that just prove your lack of talent as director.

You are not Zack Snyder, you don't know what he was thinking. He said himself he wanted to put Superman on a journey to becoming the Superman we all know and love. In the first movie he's obviously not going to be the Superman we all love, he made mistakes. For example when zod threatened his mother he flew him to a city and put innocents in danger. That's not something a pro Superman would do. He was clearly not thinking straight, in reality if I was him I would of probably done the same shit. Superman at first is not going to be perfect like how you want him. He's going to make mistakes in the beginning of his journey, but the whole point of the mistakes is so that he could learn from them. Superman in man of steel is supposed to be flaud, he's supposed to be human. He chose humans over his own race because he cares about the human race and sees himself in that group. Now he obviously wasn't planning on doing 5 movies to bring us the Superman we all know and love, there was supposed to be more Superman movies. But unfortunately wb doesn't want that.

@@The_alphawolf_official You don't have to be a pro to know if you throw a superhuman in a populated area, people could die. Superman is not Martian Manhunter, he's been on Earth for 33 years, he knows humans and what he's capable of. Is it my fault that Snyder gave us glimpses of his childhood that seems like he just didn't care about developing his character till he's a full grown man? Or that he spent 10 years or more travelling across USA doing nothing till a random soldier casually commented about an alien spaceship, bless that soldier or he would've never become Superman! I don't mind Clark making mistakes, learning to become Superman, that's why he starts from his teenage years. Did you see Snyder's plans for JL2 and 3? They are consecutives movies, there's no room for another movie between them, so no, Snyder wanted to gave us the real Superman till he defeated Darkseid! And then what?

Of course he's going to learn mistakes from his teenage years but not all of that is going to help him become Superman. He has never fought any sort of person on his power level. And I do admit, Snyder is not perfect he does some dumb shit a lot of the times like killing off Jimmy Olsen and killing off Nightwing. He also wanted Batman to die and Superman's son to vs the new Batman which is pretty bad in my opinion but when it comes to what he wanted to do with Superman, I know it was going to be great. He has already talked about wanting to do a Superman 2 but wb won't let him. But since he can't do more Superman movies the best he can do with Superman is to try and let him grow in the justice League movies. And just because hes trying to make him grow in multiple movies, that doesn't mean hes bad at what hes doing, its a choice. He wants Superman to transform but not in just one movie.
Edit: I forgot to say this but yes its common sense that throwing another superhuman in a populated area is dangerous for the citizens but he was pissed off at zod and was just trying to beat the hell out of him and that caused him to bring him into a populated area, this was a huge mistake that he made because he didn't keep his temper in check. Like Tylers Superman got shot at with kryptonite then he stopped himself from injuring the soldiers
