Lol yes! 🤣 One time way back in the day I was riding around with my friend listen to Mechanical Animals by Marilyn Manson. We were going to my girlfriend’s mom’s house for dinner, and the last song that played before we got out of the car was User Friendly, which is catchy af. You should react to Question! by SOAD, it's not from this album, and the thing about SOAD is that you can't really "pick" their best song because they're all great, but it IS my favorite song and one of the best things they've ever created!

Their show/concert from Chile is one of my favorites. That show was amazing considering the oppression and conflict that was going on with the college students and their rights at the time.
The reason you're listening to this whole album in its entirety has to be because not even all your subscribers who suggested it could pick just one favorite song. Everyone knows Toxicity and Chop Suey cause they were the singles but when you hear the rest of the album you find that it's quality though and through. I love SOAD and your reacts to them, I really hope you do Steal This Album next lmao.

@@mikatu in terms of accessibility I can understand why some folks wouldn't care too much about STA. You can hear a lot of groundwork being laid for toxicity sporadically through their first few albums leading up to it. STA was one of my favorites because the vocals - at least to me - were far more absurd and expressive. It's like serj was painting a more satirical/humorous vocal style while they were still at their heaviest instrumentally.
Dude..Toxicity was their 2nd album, STA was their 3rd.

You have GOT to do “steal this album” reaction in its entirety like you are with Toxicity. A year or so after Toxicity was released, a bunch of unfinished demos got leaked and it was dubbed “Toxicity 2”. SOAD was pissed that fans were hearing unfinished material, so they went back to the studio and actually recorded the songs legit and dropped it a year after Toxicity was released. Low key their best album. Named it ‘steal this album!’ Because that’s essentially what the fans did by leaking all of the songs.

This one was one of the albums and bands that turn me into metal when I was 7 years old. I was really into having the albums and just wanted some albums for my birthday, so my parents went to the record store and ask for some albums to a dude that work there, like what he recommend for a young boy. That dude gave my parent “toxicity” and Linkin Park “Meteora”. Since that day all I was never the same 🤘🏼
What makes this song even more epic is the transition it has into Aerials on the album. Very few albums out there can end off like this one can (Toxicity, Psycho,Aerials)

There's a Live version of this song where Serj play the piano during the guitar solo. It's the same melody used in "Gate 21" Serj's song. And it's f*cking amazing

That part were they're jamming, I got the same exactly thoughts like you, actually I was a cocaine addict, and every time when I getting high I used to put this song, and it's so deep the guitar solo, every time I heard it makes me sad, it's a crazy experience

Alex Hefner, I really like how you interpreted this song by SOAD, to me, how I've always interpreted this song was that when I first heard it, I thought that it was about the groupies who are basically always high as hell, really damn crazy, and are always trying to get backstage passes for free by sleeping with the band member or members. That's what I got from this song
Channel 4 in the UK got hold of a concert for this album years ago, and this song, every time he said cocaine, it was silent..... There was a lot of silence! I asked them why, they said they brought it from an American company, it was like that.

When I went to my favorite Rockclub back then quite often for several years (it was amazing btw), literally ALL of their "Mezmerize" songs were played at their parties! They played songs from other albums as well, but from that one literally everything! :D Also for me it's one of the best albums of all time - together with Bullet for my Valentine's "The Poison" ofc. ;)

Psycho is about coked-up groupies who have seen SOAD over and over again on their tours.
For me Serj is one of the best singers in the world. His voice, his bandwidth, the change from fast to slow, the long notes that he can hold perfectly and of course his lyrics.
I can also recommend his solo albums (including Elect the Dead -> Song "Sky is Over, Imperfect Harmonies, Harakiri") and his own opera "Orca".
Back then I could hear Orca live in an opera house, Serj only a meter away from me. Goosebumps moments!
Just a tip, if the audio glitch happens again you can set the audio to mono so the left audio comes out both speakers. Not as good as stereo but it's better than nothing

When I saw SOAD live back in 2001... Pledge of Allegiance Tour. Right before they played this song, Serg told the crowd this song is about f**king on cocaine.
It's an incredible song, and funny thing, this solo is the first thing I learned on guitare, actually I just found it by listening to the song and found out how to play it 😁

i love them most when you can hear their influences, especially from their Armenian roots. the rock/metal scene has always flourished when it's most open to outside influence.

yes, that would be great! In fact SOAD is also progressive, but they condensate the songs into 2 or 3 minutes, with DT you get an entire song progressive. However the Scenes from a memory is my favorite album

If your mic and the song are on different tracks then you could probably pan your mic audio to the right to make it sound normal but then it would be quiet so you would have to boost the volume a bit
I think you have to pay attention to the music parellel to the lyrics in this one.
As you suggested, the first part of the song is about the rockstar life, the music is fast, the lyrics revolve mostly around those 4 words while the short slower part implies that not all that glitters is gold. As the song progresses we get a plot twist, a change in focus, now its the rock star looking at an admirer, a groupie, and their life, although similar to the rockstar's, have extended the slower musica parts as well as the lyrics to show us both sides of the coin.
It's brilliant writing altogether imo.

It seems most people are suggesting he next reacts to a whole range of specific songs from albums after Toxicity, but I think those are just "post-hypnotic suggestions". So I completely agree with you. Being aware of their first stuff is important to appreciate the difference between that and Toxicity, and then gives the knowledge to go on to their 2002 and beyond stuff.
