    You should have highlighted the much longer warranty as a plus for the Nissan during your comparison/summary segment. For people that put on more than 12,000 miles a year or plan on keeping their truck for more than 3 years, that could be a big selling point point in favor of the Nissan. 5 year/100,000 mile warranty is a big deal.

    Alex, let's talk about body rust. I own a 2008 Titan. Bought it new. It currently has 183000 miles on the odo. I am a farmer and I live in the rust belt, and my truck works HARD for me. NOW LISTEN, PLEASE, ABOUT RUST: there are absolutely no rust boils on the body of my truck, none. I am amazed and very pleased about that. Now, look at other brands of same year and miles. You will see that the US brands are rusting completely through the metal. Nissan, with their Titan, does an absolutely excellent job of metal protection while the others purposefully design in obsolescence due to rust! RUST!! That's the game they play, the US manufacturers, "build our truck to look bad after a few years so the owners trade up". That is a rotten game they play, and one which they could have better designed for. This alone is all I need to know on which will be my next new truck. TITAN!!

    I actually like the fact that the Tundra and Titan have "old school" V8s without that cylinder shutdown crap. When I hear salesmen trying to sell me on multi-displacement engines or whatever they're called, all I really hear is "overly complicated and prone to very expensive repairs". I'll take the hit on fuel economy to avoid sending the truck into the shop for a $4k - $5k engine overhaul when the gimmicky tech decides to break. I love tech in other areas, such as camera systems, but I want my engines and transmissions as reliable and uncluttered as possible.

    We bought a new 2004 Titan to tow the boat and a utility trailer. We shopped all the other brands and none of them could touch the Titan in handling, MPG,or price. And it might sound strange to talk about handling in a pickup truck, there was a noticeable difference in how much better the Titan handled compared to all the others. The only things done in the last 15 years are the brakes and tires; we got the 2wd. None of my friends can say the same for their GM,Ford, or Mopar trucks.

    You can take all your "new technologies" of the American trucks and shove them you-know-where. You pay through your nose for them in the first place and then they break in short order and you never stop bleeding. I am on my 4th Nissan truck and 2nd Titan, and I am soooooo tired of the bashing of every none American name plate truck of all of you so called car review guys. There is absolutely no better value proposition in the 1/2 ton segment than the Titan. And, yes, that includes the Tundra due to far inferior fuel economy and interior comfort. Buyers save $10,000-20,000 over comparably equipped American brand names. And get a drive train that will never ever cause them an issue. And a much nicer and better looking interior than any GM product. This is a TRUCK that does everything you want from a TRUCK, at the lowest cost in the market and it does not break. Oh, and it's 100% made in the USA! People that are buying "American' are stuck on a hype and they are getting screwed over.

    The problem with the Titan is the lack of engine choices. They should of offered it with a Cummins 6 cyl engine with their 1/2 tons. That should improve the MPG part. I have a 2004, first year made. It replaced a 1965 GMC that I kept running because all of the new American trucks were same as old ones. Titan was totally new design in every way. Fully boxed light weight high tensile strength steel ladder frame, 305 hp, 390 ft lb, 9200 lb towing and on and on. It made big three trucks obsolete. They immediately started bashing Titan while they played catch up. Titan should have had a very aggresive ad program bashing the fifties tech of big three and promote the fact they are made in Mississippi, engines in Tennessee. They outperformed all the big three trucks. The only thing I would change is to get rid of all the electronics except engine management. Old timey door locks and window cranks, cable heater controls etc. Simple and reliable, the less there is the less that can break. Insread they went to direct injection for no reason.

That figure, according to Nissan is actually for the standard cab, and you must always look to see what your door sticker states. Mine is actually 7800lbs. People really need to understand that the more options you put on the truck, and even the number of doors makes the difference in overall tow weight max. And, when you tow 7000lbs, expect your fuel economy to drop to about 7.9-8.2mpg. I would love to see Nissan make a true 3/4 or 1 ton as the Titan overall is a great truck, just not good enough. • @dave3682
    @dave3682 4 роки тому

    2 door trucks don't sell well privately, but fleets love them and buy them in bunches. For example, about 25% of all F-series trucks are 2-door regular cabs with approx. 20% going to fleets and 5% being purchased privately (of course, these numbers vary slightly by year). In other words, 1 in every 4 F-series sold are regular cabs. Ford dominates the fleet market with approx 35% of all F-series (of any cab style) sold being sold to fleets, the next closest is GM at about 27%. (Again, the numbers vary by year).
    Before anything else, fleets look for reliability and affordability when shopping for fleet trucks. Fleets have to make money and they can't make as much money with a vehicle that is expensive to buy, and/or breaks down a lot, and/or guzzles fuel. This is likely why the Titan did not do well with fleets as it is widely criticized for having sub-par reliability, and, while its base price is reasonable for a v8, it's still a gas guzzler and doesn't offer a cheaper, more efficient, more reliable N/A v6 option like Ford and GM do (the latter two reasons probably also contributed to the regular cab Tundra's demise as well). Though I'd also argue that the 2-door Titan failed because Nissan failed to advertise the 2-door Titan aggressively enough to fleets and because they did not keep them on dealer lots (my local Nissan dealership told me that they never had any 2-door Titans on their lot and the only time they sold them was when it was specifically ordered/requested by a customer). To put it another way, I think part of the reason the 2-door Titan didn't sell well was that a large number of truck buyers, specifically fleet buyers, didn't even know that Nissan offered a 2-door Titan!
    Meanwhile, Ford's domination of the fleet market, and the pickup market in general, is obvious now more than ever as Ford is the only manufacturer still offering their current-gen trucks with 3 cab length options, 3 frame length options, and 3 bed length options. Everybody else has been forced to slim down the herd to only the most profitable configurations.

      Very well said. Nissan doesn’t advertise their Titan extended cab model and I feel that’s why many companies looking for fleet vehicles don’t go for them as well as just an average consumer. The best example of this that not many people are aware of is that Nissan actually manufactured some extended cab pro-4x Titans in 2020. You will RARELY see any of them for sale online at resellers because Nissan failed to market them effectively

    The Titan XD is an underperforming 3/4 ton. They call it a tweener simply because their engine options can't compete with the americans. The XD with the diesel was known for towing close to 20k without an issue, but that 5.6 just won't keep up when compared to the 6-7 liter v8's.
    Now on the full time awd, no truck has that. The 4auto just engages and disengages the 4high when theres slip.
    With the camera views, you even noted earlier the 360 camera is available as an option in higher trims, just like the other trucks.
    Did you use premium fuel or regular? Most people buying this will be using regular since the 10hp ain't worth the money
    Edit: The gmc trucks have the old 5.3 with AFM and no start stop is tied to the 6 speed (base model only) and the new 5.3 with DFM to the 8 and 10 speed. The 8 speed is on the 2wd version and the 10 speed is on the 4wd version (excluding base models). The reason they did this was because fleets wanted the old powertrain for repairability and simplicity.

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  4 роки тому +1

      It's more than that with the XD. They didn't have the cooling or frame strength to compete with the modern 3/4 ton trucks. On the 4WD system, the transfer cases in trucks with "4Auto" are different, they a mechanism that can be instantly connected and, as you'll see in Ford trucks, slip is not required to send power up front.
