  • the ever rousing Crown Imperial from the Mountbatten Festival of Music 2012 at the Royal Albert Hall, London. Written by the famed English composer William Walton originally for the Coronation of Edward VIII, it was first performed at the Coronation of his brother, King George VI in 1937, following Edwards abdication. Subsequently, it has been performed at the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953 and at the wedding of Prince William to Catherine Middleton in 2011.

Very articulate even given the large ensemble size. Great job! Love the herald trumpets on the final chorus.

One of my favourite pieces mInd you Walton and Elgar are my favourite English composers so I guess it stands to reason.

Most amazing performance of this March I've heard yet. This band gave me chills more than once during their performance. I especially loved the use of rallentandos as well as density of harmony and beautiful woodwind work throughout. Absolutely thrilling performance. BRAVO!!

Best rendering of this piece I could find online! Good ol' Royal Marines. Can't beat 'em. Other versions lack spirit or precision. Mind you, the occasion was great as well.

I was serving with the CONARC band at Ft. Monroe in 1968 when we combined with the Tactical Air Command Band and the Atlantic Fleet Band and performed Crown Imperial. Still one of my all time performances! It was just like this.

Wish they hadn't truncated it. The entire march is about 12 minutes and is glorious.

Such an amazing work. And for when written in my limited yet professional background in classical music, revolutionary for its time..

If it's any consolation, I'm pretty sure there aren't any in the Commando units. - (Although, if they pass the tests, why not?)
Can't see a problem in the bands, although I do wince at the 4'11"woman next to the 6' bloke, when marching. Sort of spoils the aesthetic.

Having women in a unit like the Royal marine Commandos combat para battalions or in the sas would be a big mistake ultimately it would foreshadow lowering the strict standards and set a precedent opening up the special forces and watering down the requirements not even the Americans in their military have got woman in the top tier special forces Navy seal green beret or delta forces in the US marines the women train separately from the men at boot camp it's easy for the women to pass I read some where US military top brass or higher up allowed two women in their 30s who were married with children already to try the US Ranger course they passed apparently having certain bits of the course made easy basically carried round at the end they were at that ceremony parade awarded the Ranger badage it is considered a tough course requiring high fitness levels all the men were lined up during this award who knew how they got through theses were tough NCO instructor's who had to bend the rules and told to keep their mouths shut in the end theses two women left back to Washington or somewhere other then the US Rangers
