Hello - Perhaps you know the answer to this question, or could ask him, but why does that group of musicians (at the far left) wear different uniforms than the rest of the band?
@@Contradeej they do that so they don’t damage the cords on their uniforms. I was an Army Bandsmen and percussionists and Sousaphones never wore their awards and decorations during parades and things like that.
I am so thrilled that this group performed this piece. It holds a special place in my heart having worked on it at UMASS with Maslanka himself. One of my favorite musical experiences in my life for sure.
This is exactly how this symphony was meant to be played. Bravo, Marines! I got to play this on bass trombone with the Virginia Tech Symphonic Wind Ensemble 10 years ago at Carnegie Hall. Brings back a lot of good memories.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful performance of this amazing composition! It is a shame that UA-cam insists on interrupting the performance with advertisements :(
Super to hear this masterwork from The President's Own!! This is the piece that convinced me to pursue this thing professionally - must have been incredible live! Bravo tutti.
This recording definitely competes for the UT Austin recording, Jerry Junkin pretty much owns Maslanka Symphony No.4, however this is the tightest recording that I have ever heard. HOLY CRAP at 23:55 I have NEVER heard a better clarinet section.... Go ahead and tell me there is a tighter recording out there... I am waiting ;) Semper Fi!
I'm not God but if I were you I would say bravo you play that as a unit from your heart with perfect softness and lives and beautiful beautiful me Lucy
Yes, though that melody has been in existence for way longer than the United States has. Bach uses it in Cantata 130 which is older than the United States. ua-cam.com/video/bptAGuDHhe0/v-deo.html

I attended this wonderful concert. I am a retired Navy musician, and my youngest son is the double bassist on this concert. He loves his job!
Thank you for your service!

The band members wears white epaulets and white cords! The orchestra members don’t
Seems that they are member of marine chamber ensemble, that's with strings. They wear less decorated uniforms.@@Contradeej
The final five minutes is some of the most powerful music ever written for wind ensemble
Yeah, if only I didn’t get like three ads in the middle of it 😭

Woah...clarinets actually playing tunes, not just sounds, on the mpc/barrel combo....cool!

Who was your conductor?
@@brianjungen4059 Dr. Travis J. Cross, who is now Director of Bands at UCLA
Did you know Dave McKee at Tech? He was my HS band director.
@@brianjungen4059 Yes! He conducted one of our pieces on that tour to Carnegie Hall. He mainly did the MVs, which I never did.
David Maslanka (1943 - 2017) - a great friend of the American wind ensemble

Beautiful playing from all! I’d love to hear you all record Maslanka’s 7th Symphony as well!
Muito linda interpretação...bravos
Excellent horn intro. No quivering lips here.
I always appreciate hearing wind ensemble repertoire performed by professional musicians rather than college students. Fine performance
Horn win! Doug Q. is the best!!!

i wish the conductor provided the breath for artistry that is inherent in the music that maslanka wrote.

Is there anything in concert band repertoire more epic than 24:51, except maybe the end of Russian Christmas Music?
Valid question
There’s John Mackey’s Wine-Dark Sea

It's definitely better than Ticheli
Maslanka walked so Ticheli could run

The only thing that could have made it better was a real organ!
