I am not sure exactly how it goes, but in the books they talk about how mockingjays are basically a symbol of rebellion against the capitol because jabberjays were made to spy on the people and report back to them (you’ll see more of them in the second movie), but ofc the people found out and started reporting false info. The tributes as punishment is a reference to the story of Theseus and the Labyrinth, where they sent conquered youths to feed the Minotaur as a power flex. In the books and movie, it is a way to pit the districts against each other and act as a state terrorism act of deterrence. If they can already do that to kids, imagine what they can do to people who try to fight them

23:22 See, this is the kind of moment that makes me really appreciate what Susanne Collins did when she wrote these books. A few seconds ago, you were talking about how crazy it is that everyone watches the broadcast at all times, placing bets and being invested etc. Now, you see Glimmer dead and you say "I do not feel bad". Because she's a bad person, and hellbent on killing, and she's a murderer, right? But she's a kid - raised from birth to expect death, to train to kill, to entertain the masses with murdering other children. Their parents enrol them in that training before the children have a chance to start thinking rationally. Glimmer is 100% a product of the world the Capitol has built, where this is normal. If you were raised that way, I honestly believe there are two options - you either wouldn't have survived to this point (truly wouldn't a child go insane), or you lean into the madness to survive. That's life for the kids in the higher Districts. In the lower Districts, there is no money, no training, no nutritious food, no medicine - every day is a struggle. The children are desperate, raised for slaughter at the hands of the richer kids in the Games (99% of the time, that's the outcome). I think the book and the movie replicate the experience really well - you start to root for who should live, and who should die. You stop paying attention to the fact that none of these kids should be in this situation at all.
catos final speech makes me feel sympathy. the careers (district 1 and 2 in movies) - they were taught to kill at 12 until 18 (''bringing pride to my district'') and all thought it was an honour to serve in the games , but in reality they were all puppets sent off to die. in that moment he realised. in the novels him and clove had a close relationship as he ran to her as she was dying and held her? -which gives him some humanity despite his cruel behaviour to others due to anger etc and in that moment he realised too. when she died someone commented how their theatre clapped and gave a standing ovation , mirroring how our reality mirrors the capitol audience - they were all scared children and the capitol children masked it with arrogance. met galas too etc. you should watch their interviews (deleted scene) - it gives you some insight to their characters. growing up i liked clove due to her confidence and skill and foxface. foxface was seen in the training room to be tested on plants so its thought her death was a suicide - a painless death compared to facing district 12 , 11 or 1
Exactly. They knew no better as they were basically indoctrined from an early age to win and bring pride to their dictrict. Being happy about his death or any of the tributes deaths makes us no different from the Capitol.
i loveedd the HG series when I was 12. its crazy how im above the maximum reaping age now - time flies. when you think about it , its an insane plot - but it happens now when it comes to war (as the books were based off of children going to war i believe)
The war references got added for later books as story shifted, I think the first at least beyond the totalitarian regime references she said was based off reality TV and what people will do for entertainment that blurs ethical lines and sometimes ends up being straight up evil in the name of consumerism and keeping the masses happy, as people and even children become products.A lot of that got lost in translation as you can imagine it’s hard to have a message like that that runs counter to commodification of people in even movie industry
I actually read the books before watching the movies There's a number of differences between the books and the movies, like how Katniss got that mockingjay pin, for example
I watched the movies first when I was younger and read all the books this year!! I was shocked at how many differences there are and how many important details actually were left out! Although I still love both, the books had so much more to them
I think it was really well adapted to the screen though. Hunger Games 1 and 2 were good movies, despite the books being better. It was Mockingjay that they screwed up.
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE GIRL !!! Also can I just say that katniss growing fond of peeta Is one of the sweetest things ever because she saw the GOOD in him, He With such a sweet and selfless person and Katniss wanted to protect that CRYING
peeta and katniss are my favorite couple ever, their type of love is absolutely 100% the soulmates trope !! it’s a super slow burn (but the second movie is the one where their romance really happens)
The reason Haymitch sends soup instead of the life-saving medicine that Peeta needs is because everything they send costs money that they raise from Capital citizens and the more something is needed the more expensive it is, so food is not that expensive because people can hunt for it but life-saving medicine you can't find that in the wild so it's too expensive for Haymitch to provide them.
You asked what they did with the bodies. In the book the people running the Games turn them into monster dogs with human-ish faces. The dogs near the end of the movie are actually fallen tributes. 😬 Just like they made tracker-jackers and jabber-jays, they use the genetic material from the tributes and mix it with powerful dogs to hunt the last few tributes left alive until there is just one survivor. At least, they did in this Hunger Game.
They didn't do it with their bodies just with their genetics. Katniss even pointed out herself that she saw Rues eyes in the mutt but that it wasn't Rue and she commented that they wouldn't go as far as to use the tributes bodies but the mutts they did create were a cruel invention in themselves. In short, they knew what they were doing
The Mockinjay symbolizes hope in this world, cause At the time of the rebellion, the capital created genetically modified birds to repeat everything they heard and placed them in areas they believed to be rebel bases, This way the bird would hear the conversations and repeat it to the capital, like a kind of spy Now, when the rebellion was eradicated, the capital went on a hunt to kill all the birds, and they thought they had killed them all, but in fact some of them survived by breeding with Mockinjays The bird symbolizes hope because even though the capital wanted to kill it, it found a way to survive
This whole situation with the sponsors is similar to adoption. People only sponsor the kids who are cuter, have some talent, class, or make a very good impression 😂😂😂
I didn't see anyone else commenting on the ending: They actually do get a new home in the Victor's Village along with wealth and special monthly packages for the next year for the whole district filled with foods. Peeta was commenting on their relationship. Because she doesn't know her own feelings and he is realizing that she was pretending during the games more or less. Hope that helps! They really tried to make this series like Twilight and have done it injustice and could not find ways to actually explain the dynamics. Oh another point, the reason why Haymitch couldn't send that medicine for Peeta is because it is too expensive and prices go up as the game goes on.
i think hypothetically, the hunger games was to punish the districts (remind them that the capitol can take their children and kill them on TV) but also that it is an outlet for violence and that will stop future rebellions as well. great reaction, you are so funny!!!!
11:45 I haven’t read the books but I know from Tiktok that there are 3 districts known for winning and I’m pretty sure training people. Also district 12 is the poorest district out of them all which puts them at a major disadvantage.
About Peeta's mom having no hope for him, gurl you are so wrong for laughing 😂. You made me laugh too even though I know from the books how abusive Peeta's mom was, and now I feel bad lol.
I was so pissed that the show really didn’t talk about the trauma and abuse, Peeta had to with stand with his mother. I wish they would have showed it a bit more, because you would have connected to Peeta sooner and deeper.
4:28 - girll i love your commentary - id love to talk with you someday haha. its not about honour - the sacrifice is more so repayment for the past rebellion against the government - families have to sacrifice their sons and daughters to repay for past wrongdoing
You were right about Gale it’s more clear in the book \Movie but basically he’s in part responsible for her sister getting killed in the Capitol because he helped create the bombs that killed her little sister and she basically couldn’t be with Gale because of that but Peeta (according to the books) actually called him her dandelion in the spring which is weird because he saved her life when she was 12 by throwing her some bread and then the next day she saw a dandelion and made dandelion salad and then she started hunting to feed her mom and younger sister
haymitch sent soup because the nearer the end of the games the more expensive it is to send even simple packages, you would need a lot of sponsers to fund medicine for peeta that late (a lot more is explained in the book) the mockingjay is the child of a jabberjay and a mockingbird one of which were weapons the capitol created/used in the original war :)
While there are differences from the books, the movies are actually quite good. They are my favorite adaptations of book sagas alongside Lord of the Rings.
recommending 'SKAM' it's a norwegian anthology series abouth youth and figuring out who you are (each one is an unrelated story so you can watch them in any order; each protagonist is different and some side characters are recurring but you don't miss out on anything plot-wise). i specifically recommend S3 ('isak and even's story')!!
Whenever I rewatch this movie, I'm reminded of how many famous actors started out here. Like this is a STAR STUDDED CAST!! Miss Orphan, Hugie from the Boys, LENNY KRAVITS???
ive been waiting for this review since binging your divergent videos!! these are much better and im so excited for ballad of songbirds and snakes, esp after reading the book!!!
Oh my goodness yes! The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes was so good! And terrifying. Snow started out a such nice kid, but choice by choice he lost his goodness until....😢😭 Just goes to show how each of us need to keep an eye on the choices we make and what direction those choices are sending us! It definitively didn't help him that he had a terrible mentor (the geneticist) who really messed him up!
I'm psyched for SONGBIRDS AND SNAKES. The book as not really as cinematic (I am not sure how they will do it as a movie) as THE HUNGER GAMES was. But this is an interesting series to revisit.
I feel like I need to make a UA-cam video like PowerPoint presentation style, to dissect/prove that Katniss was in love with Peeta the entire time not just when they went to the hunger games together. The thing about Suzanne Collins is she put it all in the subtext but if you are paying attention while reading it is all there. It’s just not said overtly because that is trite. 🙄
There’s at least a strong connection she feels for him since when he threw that bread! Yeah there’s Gale and she had a stronger connection to him because they bonded from their dads deaths and supported each other but after finally reading the book I realized that she deep down was always intrigued by Peeta. She was mostly keeping him at a distance because once in the arena they’d have to be enemies and she was protecting herself. By the end of the game it was clear that she had deeply bonded with him but he pushed her away when he thought she was only acting close to him for survival. I think for katniss she didn’t know how to not be in survival mode so she doesn’t quite know what she actually wanted to do vs what she had to do to survive when they overlap.
Also in the book the wolf things at the end were the dead tributes bodies turned into these mutts it would’ve made this scene so much more shocking and powerful
even tho some of them deserved to die i can't help but feel sorry for them they were just kids who grew up in a fu**** up system that told them that kill people will bring respect and honor to them and their district and when you see the way they are treated you kinda get why they will want to be respected by the Capitol.. some of them literally trained for it they contributed to their own death (even tho the Capitol have the final word)
I DONT KNOW I DIED WHEN SHE SAID I think she will be favourite because she was the only one who volunteered WHEN THE DISTRICT 12&4 ALWAYS VOLUNTEER like there is 6 other people who volunteered for FUNNN then she thinks she the only one lol
2:22 they control what you wach so if you wanted to watch something else you would not be able to because they make it the only show and it's also the only way to know if your family member is still alive
05:00 This is so interesting now that I've read the books again. So the Reaping is live-streamed. Obviously most Capitol people watch the reapings of the higher districts. Effie feels offended that she has to present the reaping of 12, because BARELY ANYONE watches. So... when you have a sister voluntering and a bit of drama happening, you milk it for views. It's insane, but that is why she is happy right here. She's thinking 'I can use this and become more popular'. She knows this is going to get attention and she wants to us it to move higher up.
The reason Gale's name was in the reaping so many times is because you can put your name into the bowl extra times in exchange for food rations (explained in the book)

“what is going on? i was boutta say is we getting a papsmear?” lakia you got me dyiingg lmao love your videos
i loveedd the HG series when I was 12. its crazy how im above the maximum reaping age now - time flies. when you think about it , its an insane plot - but it happens now when it comes to war (as the books were based off of children going to war i believe)
I actually read the books before watching the movies
There's a number of differences between the books and the movies, like how Katniss got that mockingjay pin, for example
I watched the movies first when I was younger and read all the books this year!! I was shocked at how many differences there are and how many important details actually were left out! Although I still love both, the books had so much more to them
@@swampratguttergoblin Ikr, including the timing of when we meet Haymitch
I think it was really well adapted to the screen though. Hunger Games 1 and 2 were good movies, despite the books being better. It was Mockingjay that they screwed up.
@@mjamitche5245 true, despite the glaring differences between the books and the films, they were relatively close
@@swampratguttergoblinone difference that surprised
Me is in the first hunger games book they reference johanna mason.
OH YAYY! I was hollering when I saw the title im so glad you’re reacting! love my man Peeta 4L
Yess Peeta🫶🏾
@@LakiaJaiTV they dont have good showers in the districts Peeta and Katniss are probably really dirty
@@smdownh9 Who asked?
@@drewmcgary2872 pay attention @lakiaJaiTV talked about it when told Katniss they have to hose her down again
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE GIRL !!!
Also can I just say that katniss growing fond of peeta Is one of the sweetest things ever because she saw the GOOD in him, He With such a sweet and selfless person and Katniss wanted to protect that
CRYING
peeta and katniss are my favorite couple ever, their type of love is absolutely 100% the soulmates trope !! it’s a super slow burn (but the second movie is the one where their romance really happens)
Fr!! And as an ENFP, the ISTP x ENFP trope never gets old! They're so cute!!
@@isabelstate3841 Do you know any other couples that fit that trope😭 asking for research
@@LyneDayes Ah, thank you for the clarification. It has been a while since I have read the book and clearly, my memory has faded a bit. 😏
The Mockinjay symbolizes hope in this world, cause At the time of the rebellion, the capital created genetically modified birds to repeat everything they heard and placed them in areas they believed to be rebel bases, This way the bird would hear the conversations and repeat it to the capital, like a kind of spy
Now, when the rebellion was eradicated, the capital went on a hunt to kill all the birds, and they thought they had killed them all, but in fact some of them survived by breeding with Mockinjays
The bird symbolizes hope because even though the capital wanted to kill it, it found a way to survive
This whole situation with the sponsors is similar to adoption. People only sponsor the kids who are cuter, have some talent, class, or make a very good impression 😂😂😂
The phrase “ He ate with his makeup” in that context is just… 💀
I love your laugh bro😭‼️‼️
Thank you 😅
Same, it’s a cackle/ guffaw which I relate to 😭😂😂😂
I didn't see anyone else commenting on the ending: They actually do get a new home in the Victor's Village along with wealth and special monthly packages for the next year for the whole district filled with foods.
I thought it was just the winner who got monthly goods but the district got food for the year.
@@LyneDayes the monthly goods are mostly food is how it is desrlcribed. The winners for life and the district for a year
Ayeeeeee let's gooooo, the Hunger Games movies to this day held their own as thee best dystopian trilogy, I totally recommend reading the books too
"He's just Peter with a little accent"
ICONIC!!!!
i think hypothetically, the hunger games was to punish the districts (remind them that the capitol can take their children and kill them on TV) but also that it is an outlet for violence and that will stop future rebellions as well. great reaction, you are so funny!!!!
I’ve been waiting for this 😊
Same
They actually do get to live in a new house and with economic comfort! It's just now they're scarred for life :')
I honestly only remember the first movie, and even then, i only remember some key scenes
Exactly me lol same 😭
11:45 I haven’t read the books but I know from Tiktok that there are 3 districts known for winning and I’m pretty sure training people. Also district 12 is the poorest district out of them all which puts them at a major disadvantage.
Nah this commentary has me in tears, the way she ate up Peeta & his mamas lack of faith
About Peeta's mom having no hope for him, gurl you are so wrong for laughing 😂. You made me laugh too even though I know from the books how abusive Peeta's mom was, and now I feel bad lol.
Such a classic! Love the entire franchise! Your reactions are the best too… 💯🥰
I was so pissed that the show really didn’t talk about the trauma and abuse, Peeta had to with stand with his mother.
11:25 lakiaa girllll
actually in the book Rue doesn't have a dad i think the guy just tired to see kids getting killed
Based on her survival strategies, Lakia would be Fox Girl in the Hunger Games. Hey, she's a great character and made it pretty darn far!
Your editing style is very 2016 and I love it and find it comforting😌
These movies are incredible! Totally going to read the books. Love your reactions always!✌🏻💖
The three fingers' sign is used in District 12 for saying goodbye to someone they like or admire
Im watching the franchise for the first time too! So, im very excited youre doing this too!
I LOVE the hunger games! (I love your videos by the way)❤
haymitch sent soup because the nearer the end of the games the more expensive it is to send even simple packages, you would need a lot of sponsers to fund medicine for peeta that late (a lot more is explained in the book) the mockingjay is the child of a jabberjay and a mockingbird one of which were weapons the capitol created/used in the original war :)
While there are differences from the books, the movies are actually quite good. They are my favorite adaptations of book sagas alongside Lord of the Rings.
Omg not you thinking Katniss was getting a pap smear, im crying😂😭🤣💀
Lakia is so cute when something romantic happens 😂 how can you not smile when she giggles like that?
the utter excitement i had for this upload
You were literally me this entire video 😂😂 the Capital was wrooooongg lol

i heard in the book Peta looses a leg and gets a artifical leg
recommending 'SKAM' it's a norwegian anthology series abouth youth and figuring out who you are (each one is an unrelated story so you can watch them in any order; each protagonist is different and some side characters are recurring but you don't miss out on anything plot-wise).
i specifically recommend S3 ('isak and even's story')!!
Where would I go to watch it? It looks like there are multiple versions of it, Spanish, Italian, French, and American. Which version did you watch?

17:32 Girl I thought you said pimp talking Peeta and I loved it! but I see now it was pep talk :D
I just love Lakias energy I was having a bad day and i started laughing the second I was watching
Whenever I rewatch this movie, I'm reminded of how many famous actors started out here. Like this is a STAR STUDDED CAST!! Miss Orphan, Hugie from the Boys, LENNY KRAVITS???
Lakia has one of the most adorable giggles I've ever heard!
I’ve never been this early to an upload
ive been waiting for this review since binging your divergent videos!! these are much better and im so excited for ballad of songbirds and snakes, esp after reading the book!!!
I can’t stop laughing 😂❤
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE TURN IT UPPP 🎉🎉😋😋🤸🏽♀️
I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR THISSSS
Since nobody answered it, they take the fallen tributes bodies and turn them into the mutts at the end
Awesome video as always!
ur high pitched laugh makes by day
You know Lakia? You have a real mom vibe especially my mom
even tho some of them deserved to die i can't help but feel sorry for them
they were just kids who grew up in a fu**** up system that told them that kill people will bring respect and honor to them and their district and when you see the way they are treated you kinda get why they will want to be respected by the Capitol..
some of them literally trained for it they contributed to their own death (even tho the Capitol have the final word)
It’s so funny she doesn’t realize they’re not in a real forest
2:22 they control what you wach so if you wanted to watch something else you would not be able to because they make it the only show and it's also the only way to know if your family member is still alive
Haymitch has to pick which tribute to get sponsors for
11:08, this had me dying for like 5 minutes🤣😭!
I love my siblings, family and friends BUT you won’t find me volunteering. I love y’all but you’re getting the three finger salute 🫡
MY FAV SO EXCITED FOR THIS

its insane how hunger games is a parallel with met gala and Hollywood lol
Were you team Peeta or team Gale? And has your opinion changed overtime?
I have no idea I hardly remember anything 😭
Team Katniss 💅
Team Peeta forever 🫶🏽
Team Finnick!!😍
Where have you been all my life??? Ur so funny
Fun fact: At the time at the start of this movie, the hunger games had already killed 1,703 tributes in the games!
You should definitely watch Daisy Jones & The Six, it's a series about a band with Sam Claflin as one of the main actors!
Love your videos!! 😊I was wondering if you ever considered reacting to Stardust? Or is that a movie you've seen already?
I love the Bible verses!! I want to add them as well when I start UA-cam!! Also, love the Hinger Games❤
30:30 People of panem: Imagine how tired we are of it. Imagine how tired we are. XD
25:15 that’s what they do to the bodies 30:51 they don’t do the best job to showcase the fact they’ve turned the other tributes into dog mutants
Oh thank goodness this is a rewatch. I was like you never seen hunger games lmao 😂 I need to do one too even though yes its a prequel.
