Love seeing the QC used as an interface, I've been thinking about selling my Clarett and some other gear to finally fund one but haven't seen anyone else do this. Desk is a minimalist dream!
I never knew the QC could be used as an interface! Have you ever tried tracking vocals or piano into it? If so, I'd sell my interface in a heartbeat and just get a QC! Use it for guitar, bass and vocals (since I use MIDI for everything else!) Incredible video too, man! Super dreamy feel!
simple and nice. you didn't specify about the monitor. 0can you confirm your LG display works well with the MAC studio as i hear there will be aspect ratio issues?
This is definitely my vibe in terms of a writing/recording rig--as simple as humanly possible. I also track some vocals with my setup, so I'd be curious how the preamps in the QC work for that.
Hi Joshua, some time ago you made a video about noise problems with the low DI level when using the QC as an interface. Was this problem resolved? It seems you are not using a DI box anymore. Best regards
Joshua! Change those HS8 monitors to a pair of iLoud MTM speakers! They sound INCREDIBLE and are way way way smaller than those clunky HS8s. No compromise in bass. I made the switch myself and I consider it an upgrade. I swear by them. Strongly recommend to check them out.
This is really helpful as I've got a lot of the same gear! I also have HS8's and struggle with the size though I like the sound. I tried smaller monitors like Genelec but prefer the big Yamaha sound. Also tried those desk clamps but I like to have a shelf on my desk to hide my computers, hubs, and interface so I have the big speakers on stands behind the desk. I also have a Quad Cortex on the desk although I have a separate MOTU interface. Great to have all these ideas from your video!
I wouldn’t change those Yamaha monitors, they have fantastic low end and with the qc you will need a decent bass response, it’s like adding white paint to black it doesn’t work until you add tons , add black to white however and you only need a small amount. That’s why id keep them , also imagine a keyboard with them
awesome, thanks for sharing, super clean set up, love it :) did i miss the mention of the Iconic Axe? i got a custom Iconic just before their big news at the start of the year, best guitar I own!
Hey Josh, quick question: Would the Quad Cortex allow you to add a microphone (condenser) for online lessons? or do you feel there's no need for that? that's the only reason I'd still choose an interface over a modeller like that one.
Hi Joshua, I have a similar setup where my desk is in the corner of the room due to limited space and no acoustic treatment (planning to get some, but not sure when). I also have the same pair of Yamaha HS monitors as you. Do you use the "Room Control" and "High Trim" settings on the back of the monitors, or do you use any software to adjust the sound? Thanks!
Rear ported monitors need to be a metre off the back wall. Use front ported monitors if you are stuck for space . The room control on there won’t help much. Sonarworks sound id reference will help - but treat the room first!
I have a very similar monitor placement (also hs8s). Do you use the room controls, on the back of the monitors? It always gives me the impression that I am doing more harm than good, so I just keep the volume down, lol
So, you have a Mac Studio with 64 Gb and you use it, not for mixing, but just for tracking. And tracking in your case, means recording your QC. I understand you never run into issues. You're probably using less than 5% of CPU available. Let alone all the GPU power this beast has on board, because for music production, none of that is utilized, at all... A regular iMac M3 would be more than sufficient for what you are doing. Just saying...
He’s probably doing a decent amount of video work as well. Having some CPU headroom for high res files plus color grading will keep him moving quickly for a long time.
I love everything about this setup. Is so free of toxic masculinity, it really gives the vibe of a stay home mom (by her own choice) that is in the top of her class on the indoor decoration. So pastel, so neat! Also awesome sweater, such good vibes, screams compassion and peace. I also love the fact that you know so very much about every spec of gear, this is always the mark of a musician and artist!
It is great that you sit besides a window, just looking out could give you the headspace you need for new ideas.
Yeah and I’m sure thats great for acoustics too….
Acoustics don’t mean anything if you aren’t in the headspace to create 🙂 I know natural light helps me a lot when I’m feeling uninspired
This whole video is incredibly cinematic, takes a lot of skill to make a video look so pretty. Great job!
Great setup, would love for you to do a Tutorial for shooting videos and color grading!
so much actually
up!
please do this bro

It’s great! As long as you’re ok with only a couple inputs
Really enjoying your reflections, Joshua. Thank you!

Such clean aesthetic, editing and quality.

Amazing setup! 🔥
Get Amphion One15. I think you'll love it in that corner.

Which camera do you use ? Your videos look very cinematic and cool:)

Which LG screen are you using?

It’s a great guitar! I have a good amount of vids of me playing it
That Guitar Amp and interface look nice. Is it also considered a floor stomp?
Fantastic video! Love that intro.
Beautiful setup man! I’ve also downsized from HS8s due to my smaller studio now. I went for the Neumann KH80s and I’m pretty happy with them
Thanks! I’ll check those out
Great looks! I run an almost identical setup and love it, so clean and straightforward

Looks great!
If this setup is just for writing/tracking, where do you mix?
Nice desk convenient set up 👍
Thanks for sharing your setup
How do u get the desk without the rack shelfs?
I like how it looks, good choice!
I just didn’t install them!
the same with my good old Axe FX 2 - been using it as an interface and a modeler for more than 10 years now :)
I have the same setup with my Fractal FM3 :)
Fun video and thanks for the little tour :) Hoping to set up something similar myself soon!
Very clean man , Thanks for share tihs!
Love it!

What's the stand you use for cortex? Looks very comfortable
Ikea do a laptop stand for €2 $2
Just a random laptop stand I found on Amazon
Looks good.
What kind of chair do you use?
It's very clean! Love it!
Joshua, where in SoCal are you?
Which camera are you using? bro
really cool studio setup! love the color grading of your videos ;) cheers mate
Basically a desk ad
Very very good🎉🎉🎉
This is what I want in my life
Great setup!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it
Take a look at the iLoud MTMs 😎 I like them

Rear ported monitors need to be a metre off the back wall. Or you will get severe room nodes
What size is that LG monitor?
very neat.. nice :)
Just fyi, rear ported monitors should be away from the wall, by like at least a metre
monitor model ?
Nice
Very minimalistic, not even acoustic treatment.
what desk is that?
never mind
Move those speakers away from the wall!!!
And next to a window
🤦

What makes a setup full of toxic masculinity? Just curious.
This is such a weird comment lol
Gotta be a bot
Brain dead comment Zog bot
It looks 200% hipster, but I'm struggling to imagine how bad the sound is in there
Needs some treatment badly
It’s fine. I don’t mix in here & I keep the volume low.
