The explanation was outstanding. I am battling a number of injuries linked to my hips and glutes. The video has added additional areas to stretch and strengthen, specifically my calves and arches.
I started noticing a protrusion at the bone by the pinky toe recently after feeling pain on that side and efound out it's tailor's bunion. Hoping these exercises and catching it somewhat early can help prevent it getting worse
Thank you so much for the great total explanation and demonstration. I have lots of work to do as mine lot like elbows on a foot. Very much appreciated. God bless
Hi Simone, we realize some time has passed since your comment above and thought we'd check in to see how your issues with bunions, plantar fasciitis and tendonitis are coming along?
Thanks a million. I'm posting this to say THANK YOU and as help to others who maybe have the same condition. I noticed a small bump near my left pinky toe and found a good sized thick callus underneath it, on the bottom of my foot. Although I stretch my calf muscles often, I found a sore knot on my left outer calf which I've been working towards releasing over the past few days. It has surely been there for a while, so it'll take more sessions for it to fully release. I've found that being too aggressive with release techniques can actually hinder progress so I'm taking it slowly. That muscle knot caused me to walk slightly more on the outside edge of my left foot, as opposed to being centered over the big toe , and as of this morning I can tell that I'm hitting the ground with my left foot in a more balanced way, in the same way as my right foot. That subtle shift in weight towards the outside of my left foot not only caused that callus and the corresponding bump, but it traveled up the kinetic chain causing my right hip to be consistently tighter than my left which I've noticed for a while during stretching sessions, not knowing the cause. I wasn't aware of that subtle shift in weight towards the outside of my left foot when walking, until it shifted back to normal. It was subtle, but over time the callus and the problem grew. Over quite a long period of time. I've always been fit, and even though I stretch my calves almost daily, this knot was there and I hadn't noticed it until I manually started feeling around. I can't thank you enough as mobility is such a HUGE part of life, and lack of it can have such an adverse effect on quality of life. NOTE: I'm using a 40% Urea cream to break down that callus and it's working well. Forever grateful for your post.
Thanks for the video, I can see you really are an expert in movement! Was wondering if there could be a different cause for tailors bunions that would need a different set of exercises? I believe mine is caused from intense side to side movement from lateral running and my full weight being smashed into the lateral sides of my feet when I cut. I was thinking that the I was overusing the lateral side of the foot to push off and that the medial side was lacking strength and I needed to retrain myself to push off more from the medial side of the ball of the foot or am I totally wrong?
This is brilliant. Not sure it's ok to ask this, bu would you care to share exercise versions for those who can't be in an standing position due the Taylors bunion pain? 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Thank you so much! 😁 I had a feeling the root cause was a L4/L5 disc rupture years ago. Long recovery and it had weakened all lower Extremities. Never had any foot problems before that.

Could you please give me the names of the specific muscles I am trying to stretch or strengthen that you mention in the above video ? It helps me when I can actually look at ( in a book etc.)what I am trying to target.
Hi @Becky McElreath - thank you for your comment. Around minute 18:00, there is a quick video summary guide that briefly reviews the muscles and exercises that coordinate with the release, activate, integrate and strengthen process we utilize here at Fluid Health and Fitness. Gastrocnemius (calves), hamstrings, abductor hallucis and the gluteus maximus are the targeted muscles we identified. Thank you for watching!
I banged the bone by my tailor’s bunion (didn’t have one before) and that is when the bunion started to come in. Initially it was really painful to walk so I just took it easy and didn’t do any kind of running for like a month. The pain while walking started to go away but now my pinky toe is stiff and doesn’t have the outward flexion that it did before. This was all the way back in July. I recently got a little brace for my pinky to to create an artificial space between the 2 end toes. What else can I do to re gain that movement that I had before in my pinky?
What causes Tailors bunion or bunionette? I've heard from several foot doctors and they seem to have a different opinion as to the cause of Tailors bunion compared to the one presented in this video. Do your own due diligence.
Zahida Meher thank you for the feedback I would love to set up a complimentary movement screen that we perform virtually to take a look at your movement patterns my email is dwiddison@gluidhealthandfitness.com I will look forward to hearing from you
Hi @savi3sounds - there are a few hamstring stretches that you can do without equipment, but to get the most length out of tissues and optimize the stretch reflex, getting a couple of tools for self-myofascial release is a good idea and they aren't too expensive. We have a couple of resources we can send. Shoot me a message at anogle@fluidhealthandfitness.com and we'll send them over.
So are those insoles part of the problem ? As I wear them in my work boots , but not in my trainers … I’ve begun to get this pain around 3months ago and the pain is getting worse , should I get these insoles for all my shoes ? Or stop using the one I have ? Many thanks
Hi @tell it like it is, consistent use of orthotics reduces functional demand on the foot musculature and connective tissues, and may be associated with the deterioration of the muscles’ strength and function. So even though foot orthotics have a time and place (structural adaptations or used in combination with neuromuscular re-ed) they often help in the short term, but over the long term they can create force/muscle imbalances not only at the foot, but up the chain of joints. Just remember that generally, injuries are a result of a mismanagement of muscle recruitment, load/intensity, duration, or recovery time. A thorough biomechanics screen and health history can usually tease out what's really happening. Let us know if we can help.
what kind of running shoe would you recommend to someone with wider and flat feet. I think my narrow running shoes contributed to my lateral ankle pain so I'm not sure what new shoes to get
Hi Dex. There are several wide options on the market. New balance are historically known for wider options. Just remember that the shoe is often used as a substitution for medial and transverse arch foot stength, which can over time make the issue worse by forcing hypermobility into the ankle without neuromuscular control. Make sure to work on short foot drills and ankle dorsiflexion strength. If you need help, let us know.

The bones of the feet are collagenous until your mid twenties. How the structures formed can determine the stability of the foot. An assessment of the foot and ankle would determine the function. If your interested in completing an assessment reach out at meetings.hubspot.com/salessupport12
