The scene where Gerry pulled herself from Jim's arms and ambled her way through the doorway to run after Tony reminded me so much of when Gloria played Norma Desmond reeling through her mansion after Joe Gillis with a revolver. There are so many scenes where Gloria's eyes were very animated reminding me of Norma Desmond's words, "I can say anything I want with my eyes!" Gloria Swanson had so many unique characteristics instilled within her from her silent days when the body spoke instead of the lips. Truer words were never spoken, "We didn't need words. We had faces!" I wish I could have awoken to the theatre arts earlier in life and could have made an effort to meet an artist like Swanson. I not only enjoy these old movies for their own worth, but they also give me a glimpse into the era of my grandmother when she was a young woman. Oh, well, I've begun to ramble now. Thank you Gloria Swanson for being so unique and talented.

Yeah this is absolutely a gem! This movie and the great Gloria Swanson sure could teach modern woman and actresses what being a class act is all about!!! Gloria Swanson was born in Chicago and it's nice to have a person like Ms.Swanson associated with our city because it has so little of late to be proud of. I live right by Essany Movie Studios where Gloria Swanson shot silent movies. The studio has been converted into commercial use and condos but kept the cool Essany entrance to the building.

1930s fashions! Elegance and glamour. Presumably it was the film industry's response to the privation that so many people went through in that decade - offering a temporary escape to an alternative world. These old films are still great to watch.

This movie is an excellent early example of screwball comedy, with priceless players under the rule of the great director Leo McCarey. The music is lovely and catchy, the art direction superb, the plot gets better every minute, the lines are very witty, the final 20 minutes are the joy of your life. To think how splendorous it must have been to see this talking photoplay on its release as a brand new picture, in its integrity, no scratches, no hiss, glossy and flawless photography! Thanks for sharing this jewel.

I loved this movie! Gloria Swanson was an awesome actress with such range. She was also very beautiful with her long hair. She must have been in her early '30's when this was filmed, but looked much younger. I'm obsessed with '30's movies, and this was terrific with plenty of beautiful clothes, great furniture, cars, and I was surprised at how modern the bathroom looked! I enjoyed this story, and I felt it was well acted. Thanks for posting! 🌈🌈🌈

@@karenhill3970 The story is even more interesting but too long to put here.i tracked it down on Wikipedia. Briefly, Davies was Hearst's mistress, which is well known. He never divorced his legal wife. When Davies had the child she placed her with her( Davies' ) sister who had recently lost an infant girl. Patricia was given the sisters' last name and was introduced as Marion's niece. Patricia spent most of the time with Hearst and Davies. When Patricia was dying she had her son put the story in a local paper. Some still think she was trying for fame or something, but Davies did leave $2 million to her. I believe she wanted the world to know who she really was and who her children's grandparents were, especially as they were decessed. There are similar stories about other secret celebrity's children. As you can guess,I love old movie history.

Indiscreet (1931) is an American comedy film directed by Leo McCarey and starring Gloria Swanson and Ben Lyon. The screenplay by Buddy G. DeSylva, Lew Brown, and Ray Henderson, based on their story Obey That Impulse, originally was written as a full-fledged musical, but only two songs - "If You Haven't Got Love" and "Come to Me" - remained when the film was released.[1]
The film is available on DVD.

    Plot[edit]
The plot of the United Artists release centers on fashion designer Geraldine Trent (Swanson), who takes up with novelist Tony Blake (Lyon) after leaving her former beau Jim Woodward because of his many indiscretions with other women. Tony has indicated he has no interest in dating a woman with a past, so Geraldine remains mum about her affair with Jim, until her younger sister Joan arrives and announces she's engaged-to Jim. Madcap complications ensue as Geraldine tries to keep her secret from Tony while convincing her sister to rid herself of her womanizing fiancé in favor of simple country boy Buster Collins.[2]

    Lyon and Swanson in Indiscreet
In his review in the New York Times, Mordaunt Hall observed, "It may have its off moments so far as the few serious incidents are concerned, but when it stoops to farce, there is no denying its jollity . . . on the whole, it is a well-worked out entertainment, wherein gusts of merriment cause one to overlook its occasional flaws . . . Now and again the film sobers up, but the director and the authors have solved a way of inoculating it with further mirth, and even at the end there is a streak of fun that is almost Chaplinesque."[3]

@randall2020 you sound like a real joy to be around!! I'd wish you a HORRIBLE day but it seems like you're already having one. Thanks for the laugh though, i love watching people getting pissy about nothing. You're perfect, don't ever change.

A young woman Geraldine ( Gloria Swanson) jeopardizes her relationship with the man Jim ( Monroe owlsey) who’s a womanizer-she loves when another man Tony ( Ben Lyon) from her past shows up! The man says he has no interest in her so Geraldine keeps quiet until her younger sister Joan ( Barbara Kent ) shows up and says she’s engaged to Jim ( the rat) 🐀 the fun begins as Geraldine tries to keep her secret from Tony while telling her to dump the schmuck Jim and marry a country boy ( Arthur lake of blondie fame) Buster can collins! Ms Swanson does pretty good 👍 in the comedy and sings a few songs! -this was directed by Leo mc Carey- good flick! 🤣🤣🤣🤣👍❤️❤️👩🍿🔥😳❤️‍🩹💥🎵

For God's sake, don't marry the guy after a few days! How do you know he's not really a serial killer? -- some of those guys really know how to turn on the charm with a dame you know. Watching the leading man, I'd say it's a good bet he's covering up some sort of weird secret life. He's way too rehearsed -- that's a sure tip-off.
